I think you should look into the relationship between Right-Wing Authoritarian Personality type and religion. Theodore Adorno began exploring this relationship in his book The Authoritarian Personality and it is truly fascinating, I feel like you would be particularly interested in the interviews he has with these individuals and how despite being nearly 70 years ago, they sound like they were recorded yesterday. I feel like Right-Wing Authoritarian Personality type is more relevant than ever has numerous peer-reviewed studies have found that it is the unifying commonality among Trump supporters and Authoritarian aggression is exceptionally high in these individuals, particularly if they're evangelical.
Adorno was originally looking for an answer as to why so many people could support Fascism in the 1930s and 1940s, and with the rise of authoritarianism and fascism across the globe, I think there's an excellent video to be made as well as a public service in bringing attention to this very serious threat.
As a proud Catholic democrat, to be fair, most of the notes here regarding the "cosmic spiritual battle" idea mainly reside within far-right circles, where Christianity continuously distorted and weaponized for their own political benefit (and in the specific case of Russian Orthodox, Putin has literally filled the priesthood with former KGB agents, so that is an obvious hostile political takeover of a religion). For someone like me, my belief in a spiritual opposition is not an excuse to engage in "othering," but rather a recognition of a bigger picture in terms of why one's actions matter in an "ultimate" sense. In other words, I believe that my actions can and will have consequences on a future judgement day, which thus becomes one of many motivations for me to maintain my moral compass (i.e. it provides for me a healthy fear of future judgement, in the same way that the consequences for breaking a law are motivation to abide by said law).
Currently typing this comment in the first 10 minutes of the video...maybe this will be illuminated on later, but that's my two cents.

I think saying LGBT people are possessed is dehumanizing people so that empathetic Christians can justify their policies- it’s not mother vs. daughter, it’s mother vs. demon inside her. And when it gets to the point where kids are attempting suicide, they’re not dying because of parental abuse, they’re dying because of demon possession. I’ve seen these relationships and it makes me so mad that there’s never accountability.

We as Christians are taught to love the sinner and hate the sin. Just because someone doesn't like your lifestyle doesn't mean they hate you.
Christians telling someone to resist homosexual temptation is a loving act. We know engaging in such activity turns people away from the light of God. Hell is a lack of God's love. To turn away from God is to be separate from God. To be separate from God is to be separate from all things good, from all of God's love.

They are willing to use political power in order to impose laws that punish those minorities. Like in Uganda, Russia and many other countries. Even though they believe God explicitly reserved for himself exclusively the right to judge the sinful. Those Christians are going against the will of God and robbing God of the exclusive right of judgement and decide it is up to them to punish those minorities.

I was one of those "misfits" terrorized during the Satanic Panic. I committed the "unforgivable crimes" of being autistic, playing D&D and being a teen in the South.
The literal only thing that kept me from going to one of those Christian camps for "troubled teens" was my father was too cheap to pay for it and he died before the church could come up with the money to pay for it themselves.
Do not ever downplay the harm done back then. The lack of the internet kept the breadth of the damage done from getting recorded as fully as it would be today but it was awful just in the TTRPG world.

@@Gary_a_normal_human_being They had camps and schools of every description. A girl I knew was sent to one while she was pregnant and was forced to give the baby up for adoption right after delivery.
For me the preacher first tried to pitch to my dad a Christian military school for my last two years of high school but it cost something like $10k, in the mid 1080's, and my dad wasn't going to pay that when public school was free. Then they got the idea of sending me to some Christian summer work camp which was just, again IIRC, $2000, and my dad didn't have it or wouldn't pay for it and the church started trying to raise it "to save my soul" while I started planning to run. My dad died and the church found themselves dealing with the state and as screwed up as child welfare was they were not about to let those crazies at me. This was literally all over playing D&D at school and not quitting quietly when the preacher demanded it.
Agreed. I didn't like that particular implication. It isn't worse today. It's more visible and orchestrated by the same organizations ... and many of the same people!

I didn't grow up during the panic, but I've studied it insofar as it impacted TTRPGs and later, video games. My family wasn't fundamentalist. I had friends' parents tell me the video games I play are satanic tools. And in the 90s, there was a moral panic about video games - a distraction from the need for gun control.
I'd like to back you up by saying we should not underestimate the terrible mark those zealots left on the lives of kids and young people back then.
To be fair, it certainly isn't as bad (for the general public who "weren't affected") as the "destructive behavior" of recent times. Feel for you though.

My folks would use spiritual warfare as basically an excuse to abuse me and my siblings and not get treatment despite being very mentally ill. Whenever I was going through something they would leave me to my own devices to scream at fictional beings at a deafening volume. They would destroy my stuff, try to get me to spread insane conspiracies, shake me for hours, try to separate me from "demonic" friends and hobbies constantly, etc. Among the worst is when they claimed I had a religious experience in my dreams and wouldn't believe me when I told them I didn't. This caused them to scream at me for over an hour and a half even breaking into my room to keep going when I tried to leave the conversation that was clearly going nowhere valuable. As far as I'm concerned calling that the worst part of the faith is right on the money.
That was so terrifying to read I can't imagine the pain you must have gone through from that experience, I am so sorry that happened to you. I hope things are better for you and will continue to get better, and wish you well.

It's insane because it defies everything we see in front of our faces. To believe that there is no Nazi problem in Ukraine, you have to ignore ALL the many news stories and documentaries about Ukraine before the invasion. You have to ignore the American politicians' speeches about Ukrainian Nazis that were being made prior to the invasion. And then you have to ignore all the constant Nazi symbolism, and hero worship all over the more recent news.
He also knows there's a section of America who will lap that stuff up and pressure their political leaders to treat it that way as well.

I "came out" as an agnostic when I was 13- my religious grandma didn't bat an eye, she had debates with me, she argued her faith without discrediting my beliefs, and it was beautiful.
So I thought, hey, it's cool.
So cut to that summer, staying at my aunt's in Texas, and I thought I would share my thoughts on the matter with her, because she was talking about me going to church with her and my uncle, and I wasn't about it- well, I was literally almost thrown out of their home. Did not go well, to say the least.
My aunt became convinced I was worshipping the devil, and would read my heavily metaphoric journals and found her "proof"- I have never felt so judged and hurt like that, she broke some beautiful openness that I had, and I personally think for reasons like this alone that Christianity is more dangerous than it is helpful- when your own FAMILY turns against you because of a 2000 year old FAIRY TALE- sorry, I cannot be on board with anything like that, I don't want any open minded, curious kid to be CRUSHED like I was, I was strong enough to hold on to my convictions, but I lost my aunt in the process, and that's not okay, but I also can't pretend not to be who I am, that's insane...
As a Christian myself, I honestly think your aunt handled that in the worst way possible, or at least that’s what it sounds like (I don’t know everything about her, obviously). When it comes to the gospel, yeah, one ministry leader I know says there’s times where being more “in-your-face” might be necessary as opposed to sitting down and having a discussion, but what she did with almost throwing you out? That’s just…not right. Your grandma definitely handled things a lot better. After all, you can’t force faith. It’s a seed that’s planted that God grows.
I do have to wonder, though. If you don’t mind sharing, what exactly sorts of metaphors did she find that “proved” you worshipped the devil?
Love your grandma, she reminds me of my paternal grandfather and it tooks years for me to challenge the closed-minded individuals after I recognized not everyone was prepared to handle a pre-teen who saw the world differently because he enjoyed encyclopedias and other books.

Without going down the whole list, In this moment, I believe goodness is possible, and Christianity is not as much a hindrance as some group codes are.
Your religious grandma probably thought some of the same things as your aunt in Texas did, but didn't want to cast you away for the sake of her feelings for you and yours for her. In a sense, you could say that your grandma acted in a more Christian way toward you. HOWEVER, when the rubber hits the road, you must face the facts, and realize that your belief system not only is not appreciated by anyone who calls themself a Christian, but appears to be satanic and leading you to hell, unless you make a 360 degree turn and follow Christ.
Perhaps this would sting less if you ventured to open the Bible to see what constitutes the belief system you are up against. I can sympathize with you, somewhat, for two reasons. One, because when I was much younger, I was once an atheist, as well. Secondly, at this point, I feel rejected by most of my mother's side of the family because I am a Christian and they are all atheists. The rejection can go either way.

When I was 17,I asked my pastor about my issues with the Bible being so contradictory with itself. His answer has guided everything in my life, "Keep asking questions. You'll only find out what you believe and who you are if you question everything." So I did. It made me an atheist.
I have to question the intelligence of the believers and out of a sense of charity attribute their beliefs to their social indoctrination and propaganda that supports it.

It's an effective mind control technique. If you're questioning, then that's coming from an invisible evil entity inside you. Doubts? That's a demon. Disagree with me? That's a demon. You can immediately dismiss critics and make followers too frightened to think.

As an LGBT person, I don't care if people are "ex-gay" or whatever. I don't care if being LGBT is a choice, because I don't believe others have the right to judge my choices in the first place. The implication of the ex-gay movement is that not being gay is the correct way to be, and I reject that notion.
I agree. Personally think choosing to be LGBT is an inherently stronger position than feeling trapped by forces outside of one's control. We should absolutely allow others to practice their own life choices.
We cannot fully judge each other but truly we shall all be judged one day when the time comes.
I always find it strange how a straight person can tell me what being gay is all about, even though they aren't gay themselves. A heterosexual person telling a queer person that their sexuality is a choice is like a man telling a woman that menstrual cramps don't actually hurt. As a person who has never experienced that condition, how could they possibly think that they understand it more than someone who has. I agree with you, whether or not being queer is a choice is irrelevant. There is no credible evidence that queer people cause any harm to others by being open about their sexuality. There's no violation of the harm principle caused by the "choice" to be gay, so there's no reason to pathologize it.

Fun fact: the rainbow having 7 colors is a Christian imposition on the rainbow. It was Isaac Newton who purportedly decided the rainbow should have 7 colors (he personally only perceived 5 but added 2 more to get 7) because it was God's number and matched up with other "divine" instances of 7 (the 7 notes in western music, the seven days of the week, the 7 planets known at the time, etc...).
The rainbow flag, on the other hand, originally had 8 stripes. Pink was removed due to a fabric shortage, and turquoise was removed due to the fact that the odd number of stripes resulted in the center green stripe being completely hidden due to the pole the flag was displayed on obscuring the middle of the flag. Thus the flag was left with 6 colors.
It fucking figures. All these claims of how these numbers mean such deep things always assume that they just "happened". That the holy lineups are God's handiwork and not some guy going "hey, I heard God likes the number 7, so I'm going to take this thing and very speciifically make it reference that number". Then, suddenly, look! A rainbow has seven colors! What a miracle!
It's embarrassing to keep seeing this play out _time_ and _time_ again. I'm sick to death of people latching onto the very first thing they see that supports their worldview, and not giving it any further research or even *thought.* And then they have the audacity to say that they understand the world better than we do.
No amount of clever, holy symbolism is going to tell you what's in a sealed box better than just opening it and checking. And arguing against the person who actually looked is incredibly foolish.

That's right, ideas about the number 7 being scared is rooted in the part of Genesis where god created the world in 7 days. It is also based on philosophical ideas rooted in the Pythagorean cult, whose ideas about sacred geometry (such as the belief that numbers like 3, 7 and 12 are divine) was absorbed into Greco-Roman Christianity in the middle ages. The rainbow is just the visible spectrum and you could easily argue that there are "colors" that we can't see, such as infrared or ultraviolet. The visible spectrum could really be divided anyway we choose. There are actually some groups of people who don't recognize colors that we do recognize in the west. The Himba people don't have a word for the color green and don't distinguish between the colors, blue and green. When tested, the Himba actually have a more difficult time distinguishing between shades of green than peoples who have a separate word for the color green. There's lots of evidence showing that how we divide colors is entirely conditioned by our language. I mean, why do we have an entirely separate word for the color pink, when it's actually just a tint of red? Some historians believe that many ancient people didn't recognize the color blue because blue is hardly mentioned in many ancient texts and when things that we recognize as blue today (such as the sky or the sea) are mentioned in many ancient texts, they have all kinds of strange color descriptions of it. A good example is in the Iliad, when Homer compares the color of the sea to the color of wine.

@@Da_bear-ij9gm You're missing my point, the point is, the number 7 was considered sacred to the the Hebrews, Greeks and early Christians. That number being considered sacred is why Newton arranged the visible spectrum into 7 colors. The number of colors we assign to the spectrum is arbitrary. I'm aware of Genesis, that part of the creation myth was a symbolic way of saying that people should divide time into intervals of 7. The Burmese have 8 days in their week. None of these divisions are based on any kind of objective reality. These are all cultural constructs. That person's comment about 6 colors in the Pride flag representing Satanism is ridiculous, because according to her, the "real" rainbow has 7 colors. She's basically acting like a numerologist and seeing patterns and meanings in numbers that aren't actually there.

Same logic Jesse Duplantis and Kenneth Copeland use to justify multimillion dollar airplanes. It's how hyperconservative AM radio shock jocks warped a rural populace into religious fanatics. It's how Catholics and later Protestants consolidated influence (and revenue). It's simple power structuring.
Don't worry, I will sell you this rock that will keep demons away, it costs $100. Once you have it, you won't have to worry about demons anymore. You'll be able to see it's working because you won't see any demons.

To me the two most dangerous idea in Christianity is that “if I’m being persecuted it must be because I’m doing what God wants” and “He who does not give up mother, father, son, daughter, husband, or wife, for my sake is not worthy of me.” I really think Christianity creates narcissism in people.
Christianity is based on mindless worship, because back then the church wanted to control the masses. Just claim something to be God’s word, and you got your angry mob persecuting everyone who doesn’t conform. It’s scary.
As a Non-Christian religious person, I always found it heartbreaking how nothing can be as divisive as religion - and it's outright terrifying that people will go to the length of demonizing the beliefs or non-beliefs of others. Talking positively about your own religion is one matter; attempting to crush those of others something else entirely.

I disagree. I don't hate people but I don't give them a pass for their choices either. The problem with religions like Christianity is they are inherently damaging at their core. The story of Jesus is about sacrificing an innocent person to absolve "guilty" people of past and future misdeeds (guilty being whatever God's decided, even if its not hurting anyone).
The religion is rooted in sexism and racism. It has a lot of teachings that reinforce those ideas. Lots of things are not okay to do to other Israelis but are fine to do to "other" people. Its tribalism and othering people in that way is dangerous, and inherently problematic. I don't care how a new age church might spin it. You can't build a nice house with a rotten foundation.
Some individuals may have their heart in the right place, but they still choose to ignore all of the horrific things in their own text and the way their current beliefs trace back to those things. I'm not going to do awful things to those people but I do see their religion as a reflection of their intelligence, lack of ability to think for themselves, and willingness to believe anything without evidence as long as it's something they want to believe. Obviously it's different for people held hostage to their religion or who were born into extremist religions that abuse them (particularly true for some women), but the second a person does something like harm their child in the name of religion (for instance, female genital mutililation, and to some extent, circumcision), they lose much of the benefit of the doubt because I see their victims as greater victims than someone who was a victim and also became an abuser.
Many of these religions are actively damaging. Its also not uncommon for them to push into government because that is what their religion asks them to do. I believe in live and let live when nobody is harmed. Large scale organized religion cannot do that. Getting that many people together is a recipe for disaster. It reminds me of working at a large company doing a bunch of stupid, unnecessary shit that is less efficient just because that's how it's always been done and people may not even know why it was done that way to begin with.
I wait for them to act objectionable but of course they always do because the very premise of their religion is being an asshole to others and letting shit slide within the tribe.

Christians hate accountability. Their entire text revolves around not taking accountability for their own misdeeds. Reacting with ridicule rather than calm rationalised explanation of why somebody else's position is disagreed with (or flat just wrong!) is unlikely to convince the person (or group) being corrected to listen. The ridiculing would be more likely to make them more defensive and less open to listening and perhaps learning something.

There are several advantages of a War Against Evil.
First, you are not constrained by moral considerations, because your opponents are not human beings, and the stakes are infinite.
Second, negotiation is not an option, and need not be considered.
And finally, you can't possibly be wrong.
Without a definition of good and evil, there are no morals whatsoever. Moral relativism means anything goes so long as it is supported by the State or whoever has enough force to push their agenda. This is the fatal flaw of atheism, humanism, etc. You have no answers, no moral compass. At most humanism is a cheap imitation of Christianity.

Retorical stategies in such beliefs make you feel that the "enemy" is leess than human, undeserving of compassion. And by associating their actions not with misguided motives of people that can be helped, but rather "supernatural demons", it makes the listener want to fight them instead of deescalating tension. It artificially boosts the stakes way higher to the cosmic lever than it actually is.
This is how they control their "flock". They want people to be angered and disgusted rather than willing to ease suffering.
That their first inclination is to destroy the other, percieved as an overwhelming enemy, rather than find ways to be at peace. Lots of paranoia as well.
And that's how we get parents that exile their children for being gay. It is a disgust reaction. And it causes massive psylogological harm to the kid.
Authoritarian governments use this logis as well when they want their followers to despise an "enemy" that opposes their Leader's plans.
You are correct, but someone saying evil doesn't exist has similar advantages as well, as odd as that might seem. In fact, in that scenario you are again not constrained by moral considerations. When I was stationed in San Diego there was a parish that sent vans to the barracks to pick sailors up and take them to church. That church scared me. It was militaristic, every idea is couched deeply in a cosmic, demonic war. This was 2008. I don't understand the levels of intentional misunderstanding required to follow and share these types of ideas.
Wow I served in the early 80s and yes, in Basic, on Sundays, we had a choice: Go to church or pick up trash on the quad. But church was nice and I was not raised Christian at all. The message was that the preacher or whatever it was called, was someone you could go to if you needed someone to talk to, had a problem etc., and I was left with an overall positive impression. Of course there have been a few wars since then.
My mom is a firm believer that there is a "war being waged and that the Bible is her sword and shield."

I find comfort in this atheistic religion, which basically assures me that I'm not evil for being queer, or for any of my other basic human qualities that Christianity tried to convince me were the result of sin. Christians never start wars or commit terrorist acts. "Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God" (Matthew 5:9, KJV).
I grew up very active in church, and went to fundamental charismatic churches for years, UNTIL I started taking a hard look at the difference between the God that Christ taught, and the god of the old testament. They're opposites. I didn't know what all I'd discover with information on the subject, I just knew what I knew. One problem with some Christians is excusing the actions, character, ethics, and morals of the old testament god as being ok to do because he's God, and being in their self-righteous and own entitlement, it's then ok for them to behave similarly, even though Christ never behaved that way, and rebukes the OT god, Moses, etc. If their God has no problems with commiting all these wrong....
It had become noticable to me that they had more faith in what the devil was doing and going to do, having the power and control to do it, far more than having faith in God. And they'd give the devil or demons credit for things that were God's. The creator didn't create a universe far more full of evils than the good.
And their wanting to override our free will and dictate to everyone else how to behave, is what I'd consider dark or black magic, at least the kind of magic we're never supposed to do. They're running now with this idea about abortion and the LGBTQ+ community, I would refer them to certain things in their own Bible. Several times it refers to the fact that it takes "having the breath of life to become a Living Soul", so unless it can breath, it's not a living soul. Besides, if God is all knowing, why would God send a soul into a body that is either going to be aborted or miscarriaged? Is he too stupid? Is he trying to trick us into a painful situation, and then get to blame us for it? Hahaha, OMG.

They kind of need to dismiss them to not feel shitty about their choice to worship an evil God. God is infallible. That means everything he's done was the right thing to do. As a Jewish scholar I find it really interesting that my religion that came out of Canaanite beliefs that very much had good and evil gods (Marduk/Tiamat, Ra/Apophis etc.) didn’t put an eternal enemy against Hashem. I have to wonder what anthropological factors removed that duality for Judaism and brought it back for Christianity.

Fear is a very powerful feeling. Some of the worst atrocities in history were carried out because of fear. When you convince people that Satan and his demons are real and that you somehow know how to spot them and rebuke them, you can turn people against anything you want. There is a large group of people who, because of their fear of demons, are left completely open to being manipulated into holding principles that are based on fear rather than love

Doesn't anyone think it bizarre that there would be a herd of 2,000 pigs in first century Judea? What Jews would keep such a herd of animals that they were forbidden to eat (or even touch!), and for what purpose? A herd of that size, comparable to a modern hog farm, would be a huge and incredibly expensive operation for that time, and not even remotely sustainable in Judea's climate. It is inconceivable that any herd of wild pigs could exist on that scale. Pigs use up huge quantities of water (a herd of that size would require 350 gallons per day just to stay alive) and eat food that competes with human consumption. They are not desert animals, and even in the best-watered part of Judea they would be an ecological and economic disaster ---- not to mention the fact that anyone who kept such a herd would face the wrath of everyone, not just the priesthood. The story is absurd on the face of it, even discounting the supernatural elements.

Religious leaders have no incentive to make rules against things nobody is actually doing if they where dedicating resources to enforcing the pork ban somebody mustve been eating it. This is something that's always been very hard to explain to my friends, who weren't raised nearly as religious as me. I spent my entire childhood fearing hell and the devil, honestly believing that if I thought about swear words, it was the devil trying to possess me. I spent eight years with an undiagnosed, untreated mental illness (misophonia; the hatred of certain sounds) because I was terrified that it was a demon possessing me. I thought deja-vu was demonic possession, because my parents told me people who could see the future were possessed. I was a young, naive child, and the way I looked at the entire world was through a lens of demons being actively after my soul. I'm slowly overcoming these fears, but even to this day I have lingering fear of demons and the supernatural. It's tricky to explain to people why I, as an adult who loves horror movies and doesn't even believe in hell or the devil, am still afraid of such things.

I don't think it's common for that initial gut reaction to go away fully. Maybe it's because I enjoy a lot of fiction, but I always have that little part of me that's afraid of the supernatural even though I've always staunchly believed it to all be imaginary.

I wonder if it's not an "escalation" of this type of thinking, but more of a "concentration" of it. A lot of folks are following their sensibility and have either altered their beliefs on this garbage or have left religion entirely (hand raised); but the ones "left behind" in their entrenched fears feel like they're somehow losing a war and so are taking drastic measures to keep those fears afloat. My husband and I are both agnostic, but raised Christian. We have surprisingly regular conversations about how what people say are Christian values and what the Bible actually says just don't line up with each other.
As a parent, I have to be wary of every Christian I come across. Because I just don't know which one is prepared to commit murder to "save" my kids from my evil, atheist influence. According to their worldviews, the "evil" of murdering me could be justified in saving the souls of my two children. One life to save two others. The simple fact their beliefs _could_ allow for that is horrifying.

This mindset and such teachings literally ruined my life. This practice should stop immediately, however I do not believe these institutions should be able to walk away after saying a "sorry" and stopping. These institutions have a net worth in the ballpark of hundreds of billions each, if not trillions in the case of the orthodox and catholic churches and their apologists.

As a German Lutheran Christian who was raised atheist and told decide for yourself. I find most of these Christians and their arguments exhausting. I'd say the most harmful and pernicious idea in Christianity is not that we have access to supreme evil, but that we have access to supreme good. This idea is present in both conservative and progressive circles. I just constantly ponder the idea of how HORRIBLE it is to live a life of constant belief that evil surrounds you, is out to get you and/or your family, and it’s your sole responsibility or conviction to fight against it. How stressful and awful this must be. How horrible must it feel to genuinely believe that people are possessed or evil most of the time?
I lived in that fear once, surrounded by religion 24/7. I quietly knew that someday I wouldn’t be a part of religion, and knew early on there was no way I was going to heaven because I DIDN’T believe, no matter how hard I tried after I was capable of rational thought. And THAT is terrifying for a young developing child and young teen.
People ask me what my issue is with religion and religious people… the harms it has caused, causes, and can cause directly is unable to be expressed or be put into a simple number. And these people who believe they are not harming others: are simply wrong nine times out of ten. It’s unethical. Religion is not ethical at all.
Unfortunately, I think the reason good vs evil thinking persists isn't necessarily because it's imposed by religion, but because people themselves find it so useful in their everyday lives, often completely separate from any religious context. For example, a civil war erupted in my office a few years ago between one group of workers and another and everyone was forced to choose sides, if you were on the wrong side, you were evil, if you were on the right side, you could do no wrong, all over who went to lunch with whom. Management tacitly tolerated this state of affairs, because it kept the focus off of them.

I think one of the byproducts of this 'eternal war/supreme evil' pillar is radical binary thinking, the elimination of nuance, and the flattening of issues into yes/no. Things are either good or bad; you are either responsible or not; you are either pure or impure; and so on. And the challenge is... things are far more complex in reality, and there are often many perspectives in play; most of which aren't often immediately apparent. There often isn't a 'right' answer or a 'correct truth'. Sometimes there is none at all but sometimes there are many.
You know what is more simplistic than saying that things are either good or bad?
Saying that nothing is good or bad and everything is in the middle. The fact that some actions aren't 100% goods doesn't mean that they aren't more preferable.
In most organized religions (Islam, Judaisme, Catholicism and orthodoxy) when we talked about good or bad actions we talk "in objecto" (objectively this is good or bad), but that doesn't mean that subjectively a thing that is bad cannot be good. Killing is bad but defending myself make killing good, doing this thing is evil but if I didn't knew it was evil God will forgive me. Fasting is obligatory but if I'm sick then it's forbidden because presrving my health is a more important obligation.

All my point was was that flattening everything in to a single axis without considering context and what have you is typically pretty harmful. And that more broadly, that one has to allow for critical thinking and deliberation, if possible. And also that there are usually degrees of severity. It's a web of degrees not a single binary.
Yes, sometimes, you have to accept that some good actions will have negative outcomes; heck, most probably do even if that's just missed opportunities. Or inversely, that something negative deeds may have good byproducts.
As you note, self-defense as a concept is generally considered an acceptable or neutral action. I would add that the nuance comes into real world situations with real people . Because then we must also factor in the severity of reaction, what an individual perceives as self-defense, etc.
If someone (A) sees two people trying to enter the house across the street, can A say they feel at risk and confront them using the justification of self-defense?
If someone shoves B, what is the ethical limit of the response? Can/should B only shove back or is drawing a weapon acceptable?
And yeah, different people will also have different interpretations. Shoving and walking away vs shoving and knocking someone over until the other walks away may carry different weights to someone. It varies based on what the other person is doing. If the other person walks away and B keeps shoving them.

You should look up Sir Isaac Newton and his use of the prism to break sunlight into constituent colors: the prism produced SIX distinct colors, but Sir Isaac added indigo because 7 was a sign of spiritual perfection. He considered himself an alchemist! So the Pride flag having six distinct colors is scientifically correct. Yes, it’s a spectrum, but it is ironic that the science behind a rainbow from sunlight is six colors, not 7 and that dropping indigo is scientifically correct.
To us it's 6 colors, but there are some cultures where people can't tell the difference between blue and green if I remember correctly, or in other cultures they consider 2 similar shades of blue or green 2 different colors (and they could very easily tell which slightly different shade of green square was different from the other green squares, something that's not noticeable for Western people. I think it was about people living in the jungle, so they "evolved" to see many greens as completely different. So for some people rainbow would have 5 colors, for others maybe 8? It's so cool how we perceive colors.
Still watching the vid, but I can definitely see why evil vs bad is really harmful, especially now. It gives you the view that one side is all bad, while yours is all right and truth and can't be wrong. It can make tribalism worse, and really hurt some people lives. I especially see it happens in small groups, if I had to guess it's because we're raised to believe that the evil is somehow stronger, which is why we need x or y (especially visible in children shows).

I always find it weird too, if god knows everything, why did he create that evil (in cases where it was on purpose this point doesn't work). And why can't that god defeat that evil if it's working against it? One of the biggest things this belief does is it changes the way you "fight" for the things you care about. If you don't like gay marriage because you think it's immoral, you have to make your argument, which is hard. But if the other side is demonic, is part of the supreme evil ... Then there is no point in making an argument, you just have to stop them, *no matter what.* You don't have to think about why people might be against you, because they aren't people, they are demons who want the opposite of good for its own sake.
It also opens those people up to be conned or taken advantage of because they're unable/unwilling to consider the possibility that anyone on "their side" might have ulterior motives.

Not only did the pride flag originally have more colors, but even the concept of how many colors are in a rainbow is just silly, people of all different cultures and time periods depict rainbows with different amounts of colors based on personal and cultural perceptions of color, if i remember correctly most classical artwork only has 3 colors, wity the other colors just being overlap of existing colors

But I can say from first hand experience that in my country and in russia almost nobody blames religion or satanism for the war. 99.9% of people from both sides talk about history, "nazism" or some other hostility.
Of course, the topic of religion is present but it's most likely only targeting a small audience. putin is sometimes presenting himself as a "good" orthodox christian, obviously pretending for the people, he even quoted Jesus that we must love enemies (but in practice he is responsible for worst war crimes in the war). So the main reason for killing us is mostly "nazism", whole russian ideology if it even exists is built on winning vs them.
On the other hand there are a lot of crazies, including Aleksandr Dugin shown in this video. Basically he is modern Rasputin and he is responsible for spreading the hatred towards "all west" in general and Ukrainians specifically.
