I think it is a cry for help... maybe they were trapped in a room being forced to play the game for solid for 27 months with no breaks... not even being able to logout at night (going by the 19,823 hours steam said they had played)
The worst part is that for years Aura Kingdom was nothing like this.. but you guessed it, the entire start of the game has been changed by Gamigo. Honestly, I have over 300 hours in this game and nothing of what Josh showed made any sense.
Ah yes, the game where I learned at the tender age of 11-12 that being perceived as a girl can get you a man who will buy you cosmetic items and proceeded to put that knowledge to good use for nearly two years
I don't know which one is more worrying. A man buying 11-12 year-old girls cosmetic items or a 11-12 year-old boy acting like a girl to get a man buy the said items.
@@bchgh who said I was a boy? And yeah it was messed up and I knew it even back then so I didn't feel bad when I'd told him about my age and he still wanted me to be his MMO gf and buy my character skimpy outfits I didn't ask for. He even gave me some pretty good gear as well so I wasn't complaining, just kept in mind basic internet safety rules and eventually I quit the game after about 2 years. You'll find no remorse from me for profitting off of pedos lol
@@thatgayliengremlinp4766 Sorry, I didn't mean to put it that way. Not trying to make it look bad or anything. I was just thinking about so many dynamics in the society which make protecting children from pedos more complicated than it seems.
@@bchgh I realize now that my reply could sound aggressive when I didnt mean it to, apologies! I think I managed not to get roped in because my parents had told me all about how to be safe on the internet since I was little, they used parental control but I was a stubborn little shit and managed to get the password to it so I could play more. They knew they couldnt exactly stop me so instead they taught me how to be safe, which looking at kids these days seems to rarely ever be the case. I think that its part adults assuming kids nowadays know how to use the internet because they were born with it, and the kids who were taught that "everyone you meet on the internet is a 50-yo pedo trying to get you" but finding it was overwhelmingly not the case having kids and thinking that since they didnt experience that their kids are safe, and not teaching them basic safety rules like not giving out your name or location or your age (unless its to tell someone who's making advances that you're a kid, but in that case just say you're a minor) or picture or anything that could be used to track you down, and lie if necessary. I remember only having one class in middle school teaching us internet safety that was pretty out of touch, and my brother who's only 3 years younger never had one, so unless an effort is made for school to give accurate classes it falls on the parents. But its also not to say its always the parents' fault as well, because most of them are either misguided or don't know, or are the sort of out of touch that makes children roll their eyes like "sure mom, every single one of my online friends is an old pedophile trying to kidnap me, thats very believable". Its just, we need a comprehensive way to teach people, especially children, how to behave on here. The shit I see sometimes... But I ramble on! Long story short, it was sonly thanks to my parents teaching me how to behave online in a reasonable way that it didnt end terribly, and sadly my case seems to be more of an outlier these days.
Part of the reason you found no one, is literally because every hardcore player switched to the private server that awards premium currency for achievements and shit, no “premium” classes, and a proper difficulty curve. Also no fear of Aeria randomly shutting down the servers, which has happened before to AK
Yeah, but back when we were all in late high school or undergraduate college and stuff like FFXIV didn't exist and you didn't like WoW/didn't want to pay a sub these were the sort of games we played. Eventually he's going to review something all of us have played at least once.
This was... hard to watch I've been with this game since its Alpha, I've watched it grow and flourish I had fun until I was broken by the usual Aeria games antics (namely how grind intensive the game gets and how Aeira loved directing you to the cash shops) Seeing the bugs & glitches that were not there before, as well as "Premium Classes"... I feel like Gamigo massacred my child-game
i got tired after reaching like lvl 72, i wanted to get those colored UIs since i first saw them, I even got close to a few of them, but the grinding (and my limited knowledge of English at the time) was too much for me:( as the video progressed, i noticed he mentioned the bugs and glitches too, which i didnt remember either:/ i also dont remember the bosses being so easy, but maybe my memory is failing me... its been like 7 years since i last played with it properly
I still remember playing this when I was a kid lol. These games are still special, because when you are a kid you just get so immersed in them while having no clue what is going on but having fun discovering it.
This game was actually very competent and one of the top choices for an Anime MMO when it released. Not quite sure what happened over the last years to introduce all of these oddities and bugs.
I use to play this game and was actually there for the major downfall in the US server. As far as I could tell developers changed and the new classes went through a major powerleap. The GMs and GSs quit at around the same time as each other and their replacements weren't very good. After Twin Saga (basically the Eden Eternal/Aura Kingdom clones by the new devs) went live, It was met with a plethora of bugs and to no one's surprise, later updates in AK were also just as buggy as their new game. Most of the player base move to private servers that were being handles better and the servers merged. They released a mobile version of the game (which has been discontinued as of now) and I've heard of AK2 which is the same game but with FF14-esc graphics.
Probably the difference between how Windows XP and Windows 10 runs. Backwards compatibility can be a pain. That, or the current publisher (Suba?) doesn't use servers that are as reliable?
This is the sad state of modern cosmetic prices, if anything this game is just having parity with others, can't reminder the last time I payed for a cosmetic, and I do like them.
Actually, looks like the devs cared when they made this, but just didn't have the cash to make it any higher quality. Making MMOs is hard, but they clearly had passion.
I remember playing this game years ago, I don't know why they changed the intro to this. When I played you started off in a battle and everything was on fire and you had to fight a demon lord or something and I think it turned out to be a dream. Anyways it was a much cooler way to start a game than what I'm seeing now
@@cherub-angelSeveral of the classes have their own start. The first was the Reaper.... If you played the X-Legends version. Aeria for some reason took out the level 70 requirement and made it start at 1 like everyone else.
"If your going to make a little girl character then please don't put her in a miniskirt by default. Some of us don't want to go to jail." That just floored me! Thanks for the laughs!
bruh i loved this game back in 2016 for probably the first 3d game i ever played since it was free (for context: the games i used to play was pirated GameHouse games or other shitty web MMOs eg. Wartune) but even then the community had been shit. was fun flying all over the city/map with my sister though haha
Yeah I was wondering this for the entire video. The lolis join the main land really late, although their quest are nearly identical to the default beginning :O
Honestly the chibi starting zone is really lame they should of started them like everybody else But the starting quests for the original characters was also changed they trimmed it down so u only gotta fight the big boss and then the dark knight and that's it lol
Just FYI, the city that is lag AF is the hub for this game and there are many people there. You don't see anyone because the game set hide other people as default (You can turn it on/off on the UI in top right of your screen)
Your rage against extortion level cash shops gives me faith in humanity, thank you I'm glad you find an actually decent game for once! I was starting to worry for you, being stuck with all the garbage games for so long
Honestly, as someone with sensitive hearing, the game starting completely silent by default sounds far nicer than starting at ear splitting volume like some games do.
So much this. Basically all games start with all sliders set at full blast. It's disgusting. If a product is not made to be used at 50% volume as default then you made your product wrong. Just objectively.
People need to remember due to the nature of MMOs, they WILL die one day. To ensure your favorite MMO survives as long as possible, being kind to the rest of the playerbase is essential. Everytime you help give a player a positive experience, they are more likely to stay active longer and recommended it to other people who may try it themselves. Everytime you are rude to another player, you risk them quitting and telling people to avoid trying the game. Do your part and be kind, even if you don't care about them, I'm sure you care about your favorite MMO surviving!
Something important. I was introduced to MMO's by a good friend. Guild Wars 1. We played together. And we grouped for the mission. That's how I learned to play MMOs : Full. Pickup. To me, they have always been a human adventure. The game by itself isn't that fun. People are. I prefer we fail together, that I win alone. The experience is more enjoyable, the memories are more vivid. And when we win, it feels deserved and long due ! In real life, I am not particularly generous, but I always enjoyed giving stuff away in games. I gave gold, rare items, advices, some of my time... One time, during a guild raid, one of our filthy rich members showered the floor with rare materials and consumables. It was a really rippy "raid" (hard mode Abyss, for those who know). Everyone rushed to pick up the stuff, and the entire party went down ! We died with still a bunch of it on the floor, and were kicked out of the instance. Then, one of our member started complaining he didn't get anything. He was floored ! Somewhat of a new or average experienced player, but not the kind to be bleeding gold. So I whispered him : Join me in town ! And I handed him the equivalent of five hours of endgame farming. I didn't want that guy to feel like he was unlucky or left behind that day. A week later, I made ten times that amount in half an hour by winning a wagger. Fun times.
Well that was longer than I planned, but all I wanted to say is that the players who insist on meta pickups and screw other players are missing most of the fun. The most toxic community I have ever saw is probably the one from Path of Exile. Basically Wall Street, but MMO.
I love how this is exactly what Toram Online did. It's been up for 7 years now and still hasn't been abandoned... There isn't much p2w bullshit and holy hell are there still a crapload of players running around the map. I came back after 4 years and I'm surprised the economy still isnt wrecked with the bots running around. Main quest rewards aren't stingy (can literally powerlevel a lvl 1 character to lvl 200+ even if you rush) which is enough for the true Toram experience. It also helps they handout Main Quest reset item freely.
But also, more damningly: Most people do not want to spend their whole life playing the same game. Even if the game receives a lot of updates, expansions, or grows in scope like say, Warframe: With the spacewing combat, then spaceship combat, open world roamy areas, an open world roamy area where you have a flying horse (which is actually pretty cool, tbh), loads of story quests with plot twists and whatnot... or WoW Cataclysm, that kind of thing... still, at some point, most people will say "But I want to play other things too", and the Life Eater genre of games, better known as MMOs, kind of cannot really accommodate that wish. One can balance an MMO with some other things on the side, sure. But it eats up so much time that a lot of people will sooner or later decide they just don't want to keep putting into it. Sometimes we want to learn to play an instrument, or try our hand at game development, or writing, or some other creative pursuit. Sometimes we want to spend more time with friends and/or family. Sometimes we just want to relax or even meditate for part of our day. Sometimes we want to catch up on all the stuff on some streaming service or other, or re-watch our favorite DVDs. MMOs can be quite magical, yes - but they ask more than the vast majority of people can comfortably keep giving. Even the really great ones with excellent communities.
I love how quickly the patreon list multiplied as the channel gained traction through bellular and asmon shoutouts, the mmo community is coming together in a way I haven’t seen in almost a whole decade. You deserve all the success josh and seeing you get recognized for your quality content is a great thing to behold !
Weird, I remember this game being one of those, show how OP your character can be in the beginning by having you participate in a war that turned out to be a dream that's actually a vision of the future.
i started playing this game around 2014-2015 (not really sure been a long time) and at first glance, i fell in love with it, the graphisms, the lore (not so much just the eidolons that were pretty cool, like pokemon to collect), the playstyle and the community within the game, especially in the small guilds that was just super cool and fun. Yes the items were expensive, but I was content with the gear i had collected. then eventually i grew up, the game didnt, the bugs remained and stuck me, so i left. Just a shame to see that nothing has changed 8 years later but the good memories will always be cherished, i guess
Sheesh...back in the day this game was one of the best anime MMORPGs you could play...and the only MMORPG I've played. I liked it a lot...only the "endgame" is very very grind heavy so I lost interest. Ah yeah one thing that is also nice about this game ... if you play a bit further - you unlock a second class for your character.
8:10 This just reminds me of how badly the goal post has been moved over the years. That kind of price legitimately gets defended with "at least it's not a gacha" and "they've got to monetise the game somehow". That's where we're at now - the microest of micro transactions costing the same as a full game is considered one of the more acceptable business models. I call this shift not-as-bad-ism.
well unfortunately the cost of developing game have also increased and the cost to run server too as well, unless you have a hugely successful mmo with millions of players, you are not going to sustain it with the same amount of money as 10 years ago
this just proves that final fantasy 14 has the best cash shop 1. its not in game 2. its usually left over limited event items 3. i can get an entire outfit set for 10 dollar/euro or less
I had 1.1k hours in this game. I spent most of the game in an amazing guild called The Crimson Angels where I made many friends. Our guild leader ended up quitting because his wife caught him having an affair and he stopping playing because he either got kicked out or was trying to work on his relationship (wild) and he transferred leadership onto the 2nd in command. Our new guild leader was my best friend who was crushing on me hard, we had another girl in the guild who used to get jealous that we were friends and tried to get him to hate my guts basically and it sorta worked for a while. Lots of drama and fighting happened in game and in discord. I got to know other people and I ended up in the top guild in our server called University that was full of whales and elitists. We all used to run dungeons, but they had all spent so much money they all one shot everything so it was so boring. I much prefered my older guild, because we were mainly all f2p or ''few bits of money spent'' players so we still felt challenged. There was so much drama between the top guilds (The Crimson Angels were 2nd to top) where they would raid other guilds discord and chat shit to each other. It got so bad that the ''Game Sages'' (not gm's, but they still had ban hammers for some reason) started making friends with the guild members and leaders from all the guilds. Our guild leader was an elitest asshole honestly, always bragging about him and his guild being the best. They basically perma banned him because of drama, even though he was a dick I still think it wasn't right for the GS to get involved as most things were happening off the game and in the discords. It was their worst decsion for the game imo as one of our members had spent 50k+ in a year on the game. I'm not kidding when I said we were full of whales. You couldn't join the guild unless you were, except for me because I was friends with the leader and female. (which also caused drama) Most of our members quit when he got banned. A few stayed and made a new guild but they rarely played and just stood around in the city chatting to each other. It was a crazy world; bad and good, I miss it. I also played it when I was a teen when it was new and Aeria Games hosted. It was a good time in my life but now I'm an adult I'd never go back. I have tried it out again a few times but it's not the same. I also remember how long it took me to grind to max level with being decently geared and just thought NOPE better games to play out now. PS. There was a good way to make money in the game for free. There was a shop system/minigame called paragon where you could win cosmetic items with a few other things, you could get free tokens doing certain end game content. The paragon would change every week or two so you could use the free tokens then keep the cosmetic items, then wait a few more weeks to sell them on the AH for stupid amounts of money. Whatever was in the paragon for the week would sell for dirt cheap on the AH as well so I used to just bulk buy then sell them for about 40x the price a month later as some of the things would only turn up once.
if you want to write a book just do that i was interesed when you mentioned how much time in the game u had so u could give feedback and i stopped reading when u tried to explain ur love triangle that i guarantee non of us care about
This is the most accurate AK comment ever lmao, there was so much drama, simping, whaling, but at the other end of the spectrum the social game was great, awesome friendships were made, good community overall, i still talk to people that i knew from like 6-8 years ago, had my best and worst times there. Side note: fun reading the University gossip, didn't liked them anyway(nosebleed)
When I was a kid I remember I loved playing this game, and now I currently work as a freelance character designer. Honestly, I would argue that most of the characters (mainly Eidolons) in this game are very well designed, heck they're actually a lot better than most current games right now, even Genshin Impact. The non-humanoid Eidolons looked really cool, especially Quelkulan, Nalani, Eligos, and Abraxas. I would however say that most of the environments are recycled from past maps, which is a pity because I remember I loved visiting Ventos Praire because it's really pretty (and so is the dungeon of that map, Wrathborne Temple). I still play the game, although I don't play on the Original Server because the Private Server is a lot better and more rewarding to play than in Original one, cosmetic items can be earned for free as well. Hence, my issue with the game as a whole, even in Private Server, is that the grind can be unbearable and collection can be very tedious because they actually matter. I also get that you're not supposed to Solo some stages but at the same time I feel like the ability of unable to Solo stages that are meant to be a Solo player dungeon on the same level is mind-boggling like the Time Library. I may be complaining because I've been playing more recent games as of late and they've been very balanced when it comes to grinding and the reward you gain from the grind, but I don't know, CMIIW. And yeah, I wholeheartedly agree with the reviews. It's definitely not a bad game now, and it is iirc regarded as one of the better anime games to play back when it was released because the graphics were actually considered great back in early to mid 2010s. It's so well received that a lot of games either copy some of their design or rip the gameplay for their own. 7/10 is definitely the spot for me as well. Also the lady who did the voice acting is a top tier. I need more of her in game :(((((
Me and my old group of friends jumped to this game when Maplestory 2 shut down, and lowkey I loved it for 10 minutes Until I ditched them to play Final Fantasy 14. I was so put off by tales of how once you get past the "honeymoon phase" of early game content the game becomes extremely grindy. Glad I didn't waste my time.
@@prettyshortshorts I mean true the grind for relic weapons and preparing for Savage raids is a massive grind. I am not sure if id devote myself to that as I am contempt vibing in Balmung rp scene.
I played this game for a while back when it was still run by aeria games and I actually quite enjoyed it. It looks nice visually and it has some fun systems. Like the cooking and fishing mini games and riddle side quests you could do. Also I liked that premium items could just be sold in the auction house meaning you could get nice dresses and stuff without spending real money. If I remember correctly there was also a lottery systems for which you could earn the currency in game. There were also regular events with gms that were also quite fun! It is or at least it was a good game that did not take it self to seriously, had quite a lot to do and did not take to much brain power to play. I like an engaging story that hits you right in the feels but sometimes you just want to blow stuff up and this game was quite good for this
glad to see some actual player in the comments, but can you tell this youtuber that most players dont use steam to launch the game and tell him that just because steam says this game have 100 player does mean that it is the case
Strange. Looked like you had a swimming animation when you walked up the waterfall. ...I wonder if what happened was that you weren't walking. If the game doesn't support characters actually being underwater, and if the devs made the mistake of having the waterfall actually be "water" and not a water-textured wall, then what may have happened is that the game put you in a swimming state and wanted to keep you at the surface of the water... by checking the water level directly above your head, and animating you to that point.
I'm gonna be that guy that says he actually likes AK. I has flaws sure, but it is also good looking, has flashy and fun combat, and I have had plenty of fun with it.
@@DevilLobster how good was that musical DPS class in the intro if you know anything about it. Im so annoyed classes like that aren't in more games and tabletops.

@@ElijahG98 Yea there are a bunch he looked at, that were actually okay and have some pretty solid things to them, but have fallen by the wayside, because they were just not popular enough or the devs/publisher ran it into the ground over time
It's actually about a 50/50 split at this point. Most of the games he plays on this list aren't bad, they just end up incredibly bland, generic, or abandoned.
I just watched Defiance as it was actually next on my list, starting from beginning of the series. Its definitely the most praised one I've seen sofar but theres a good bit in between that and where I started watching the series as they came out. But most that I've seen minus like 2 were garbage or ok with mixed garbage haha.
Same. And I think I've played like 3 or 4 at some point in time, although for a lot less time. :D The only one game of these that I played probably the same amount was this one. :D I remember trying out Wizards 101? but that ended after about an hour or so. :D
I remember as a middle schooler playing many games from Aeria Games, what really made me get into MMOs was Grand Fantasia and I was so excited to play Aura Kingdoms when they released it. Although GF was my main MMO, it was my beginning, so AK would never surpass it. Ngl I liked every MMO I ever played, I always looked at the aesthetic, the graphic and the classes and the one that really satisfies me was GF. But I liked other games with the same-similar cutesy art/aesthetic like Maplestory, Elsword, Eden Eternal etc. I don't regret playing any of them, not when I was a little kid and not even now, I cherish every single moment and memories, and what I liked the most abt those memories was joining Guilds and basically made friends, whom I would talking every single day and then never see a trace of them (tho I had periods when I didn't wanted to play so I would just take couple of years to break and then coming back whenever)
The main problem with x-legend games is that even though they make beautiful and unique games, they all end up being victims of their greedy publishers, not a single x-legend game has not been hardcore pay-to-win, ever, pre-awakening Eden Eternal may have been an exception but that's about it, sad.
@@LikaLaruku I would usually do the same but sadly i am a huge fan of the Alice in Wonderland books and when they added an Alice Eidolon for 50 bucks it was either leave or cave in sooner or later and pay up........yes i am weak xD
This one was an experience... Biggest issue is always the management. Aeria's goal always has been to hunt whales. But the rest of it wasn't bad. Coming up with cool class combos was fun. Had an evade tank katar/shield and a book/axe that turned the typical spin2win axe move into a vortex of debuff spam. Other than that... dunno how it changed, but overworld stuff is typically weak as dirt. Had some interesting dungeons though. Plenty of fun staying off the red carpet.
Pets here are one of main "differences" of game, you can have up to 3 spirits and ask them use their abilities. They are like 1/3 of your skills and power.
"Thirty dollars for some cosmetic headwear..." Pease for the love of all things holy, do not go anywhere near Team Fortress 2 or you will have a STROKE
Oh goodness, I remember this being the first MMO I spent a decent chunk of time on when Aeria Games was still around. Made a good few friends during that time though which is more likely the reason I stuck around for a while.
Serously, I actually had trouble figuring it out even after watching this video, mostly because the hotbar glitched out and didn't give me the options I needed to continue, had to restart my char, luckily it was right at the beginning.
Man, i used to play this back in 2014, brings back good memories. I remember enjoying leveling in some zones, especially Helonia Coast. The enviroment + music in that zone was amazing, iirc there was a world boss there.
I enjoyed this game for a few years. It was my, "I want to play something but dont have the time and/or motivation to dive into a AAA game." If you play it long enuf you'll see that they actually crammed in most features that can be found in more mainstream MMO's. The monetization was not even that bad with Aeria as the publisher. There was a way to get most cash shop items without spending real money. (Although this took some work.) I wound up with lots of outfits, eidolons, mounts, and a pretty tricked-out house. Then Gamigo bought Aeria and I bailed. I knew there would be no more new content at that point. And did not want to be around for the eventual sad death that Gamigo does to games it has acquired.
I remembered playing this game, it was around the time Sword Art Online was Trending. So everyone said this game will be the sword art online of MMO's. Then a Server Crash happens, players' characters was deleted after the servers went back up... I was one of those players.
The beginning is not bad for a new player, however late game it starts getting p2w with all the eidolons and fortifications/gears you need, unless you're willing to pay or basically become a no-life in order to get them done. Kudos to Aeria for adding the ''awakening'' key into the free LP shop, awakening was the biggest challenge a new player faced and alot of people got stuck at lvl99, basically forced to run the same 3-4 dungeons until they muster up enough gold to get their gears adequetly fortified and beat awakening, the Paragons were extremely bad before, now they are pretty decent. The AP shop is terribly priced unless you're from the US or UK, it's not worth it at all to cash for this game imo. 10k hrs
Some things to correct about the video: - The sound doesn't starts muted - The default interface arrangement (At least for me) was different from that. And if it wasn't, there is an option to reset the ui to way it was supposed to start. - The starcaller intro is coompletely different from other classes - You CAN create a guitarrist for FREE, but you need a high level character for that (I think at least one char on level 90) Aside from that, I agree with everything. I honestly only play this game for the dungeons and visual.
@@brot1991 the pay2win part isn't exactly that heavy. It's more like to accelerate your growth much faster than for people who are free to play. There is nothing in the game you can't get with time and in game currency. But the amount of time you'll need to invest to get strong is a lot. At least 1 or 2 years playing, I'd say.
But to have fun in this game, you don't actually need to get that far. The best part is the DGs and you can get to the latest dungeons relatively quickly. Also, the community itself is very welcoming and cool, so you can always make new friends, if you're tired of running dungeons.
Tbh for the fact that it's such a old game it's actually pretty good but there a definitely a lot of things they could change. It also makes me sad that they don't really work on the game anymore, I feel like there's so many things that could change that would make the game better.
@@munchia- 2 times i try to explain something, 2 times my comment gets mysteriously deleted. So im just gonna tell you mate, check what both companies are known for!
that game was extremely popular in romania a few years ago. I can still remember playing with my friends all day long and having so much fun. Too bad I lost my account
I used to play Aura Kingdom three or four years ago, but I left it due to the repetitive gameplay and the grind fest later on But I'm happy to see that it's still holding up better than some of the other MMOs
I don't really care about games. I _listen_ to these videos while I'm doing something else because for me, this is a MASTER CLASS in articulate coherent eloquent speech. I am a simple man. I heard the words, "needlessly sexualized tiny child class" and I just had to comment, like and subscribe.
If you think that's a confusing way to open your inventory, there's an episode of Extra Credits where Dan says that James Portnow helped a developer that, for some baffling reason, had made a game where you opened your inventory by triple-clicking your character. As in, literally the character you play as on the screen.
@@HappyBeezerStudios That was pretty much his reaction to it; the devs themselves had gotten so used to it (HOW is a big question) that they stopped questioning it, iirc.
The new player experience of FFXIV is filled with "travel and talk" as well and very little combat. It was one of the reasons why I never got into it until recently despite trying several times throughout the years.
I played this game at launch, it was the first (and so fair only) game I’ve ever gotten to level cap. This is not the game I fell in love with as a kid. I’m genuinely quite heartbroken by how much it’s changed and broken.
15:29 In my favorite game ever, Earthbound, there were times where the characters were given coffee and tea and then they were given a peptalk over a trippy background.. in both of the cases I blame drugs, they spiked the food.
22:43 If they bought the game the year it came out, they would've had to play the game roughly 8 hours a day, every day -- with not a single day off, nor even a half-day -- to manage that. I'm not sure whether to envy or pity them.
Most of that time would be afking though, like the guy with 20k+ hours of in-game time in nekopara, he didn't actually *play* all those hours, and it isn't even an MMO. Just run it in the background and that's it
yea you cant even do a HM anymore, only UM or normal mode, some classes have changed a lot in the bad way too.....i played it back in 2013, visited it last month again and i was shocked what it turned into, early game is dead, no partys nothing....RIP shaiya.
Never knew aura kingdom had an overhaul change from the UI, class selection, new starting town, change in story and gained so many classes now ... maybe bcuz I left when it was still in hype. It wasn't laggy, its very smooth, relative crafting(not useless), intense world boss and sky tower raids for the whole server. I left since it was becoming a chore when reaching the cap just waiting for nxt content. The only thing going is for it is getting your ideal eidolons that will suit your playstyle and also customization of skills you want to upgrade, if you're into collection its a challenge. It was really fun during its peak, setting up a party to grind an instance map or dungeons with your friends/guild to grind stuff. But ultimately it becomes a repeatitive daily/weekly stuff like most mmos.
I played this when it was newer and really enjoyed the combat with the archer class at the time. It was the first game I had ever seen that had those telegraphed attack areas you had to dodge out of the way of, so the dungeons seemed pretty fun back then. Didn't like that outfit system, though. Everybody in your class and your certain level range looked exactly the same.
One thing I really respect about Josh is that he's very fair to all the games he reviews. Even if it's in the same generic, cutesy anime style as the other ones he's trashed, he'll give every one a chance.
Just catching up this episode. Yeah...X-Legend. They are actually experienced MMO makers that survived quite long in Taiwan and brought their product to Japan and Worldwide. Aura Kingdom is one of their best of best. I used to play their games and quit around 40-lv-ish (about that time 40 is likely endgame, upwards are hell).
I still play it, but it's like Josh said "All MMOs are bad in some way, & it's okay if you like them." Personally, I KNOW I have terrible taste in movies. If you gave me a choice between Pack A [Marvel, DC, The Matrix, Pirates of the Caribbean] & Pack B [Who Killed Captain Alex, The Amazing Bulk, Birdemic, & Niel Breen's Fateful Findings] I will get FAR more entertainment out of Pack B.
I remember downloading it back in the day when it had first come out and in the starting area there was a dude who basically told me to abandon ship and seek out it's private server because it is straight up better version. I followed his instructions and was not disappointed, i spent way too many hours playing that pserv. best part, that pserver is still around and actively maintained by the dev.
To be fair, the gameplay is what makes up for every short coming in this game. I love the 3 class combos I ended up using (those being Bard/Wizard, Ronin/Brawler, and Gunslinger/Grenadier. The last of the 3 is my main). All the different combos you can weave with the two classes you choose are honestly really cool. The one and only shortcoming that should be fixed is the leveling system. The experience gain progression makes ZERO sense most of the time. Here's what I mean, and I gathered this from playing on my Gunslinger/Grenadier by actually paying attention: Level 1 - 20: 35%/56% of your experience bar is gained from completing a quest, depending on type. 40% for talking quests, 60% for everything else. Level 21 - 35: 28%/42% of the bar. Level 36 - 50: 16%/28% of the bar. Level 51 - 72 (believe me, I know this is weird, but it's what happened): 3% for talking, 6% for everything else. Level 72-78: 12% across the board Level 78+ (I'm currently level 81, if I'm remembering correctly): 8% across the board. This progression should be fixed and make way more sense. As it is right now, it's not balanced at all.
Fun fact: Lindo is spanish for cute or pretty but is used exclusively for males, you need to replace de "o" with an "a" if you want to refer to females.
This game was one of the first games where I fell for the hype and bought founder packs all the way back then. It's also the game that taught me that founders packs are a scam. Thank you Aeria games for directly sabotaging the industry and making sure other similar predatory monetization schemes don't succeed in the future
Played it for some time, however, I quickly realized where official server is going and instead went to play on private one. Yeah, it is not the best but it is not bad either. I will just say that since you like hybrid combat, Aura Kingdom gives player ability to have primary and secondary class, a mechanic which you didn't have an oppoturnity to encounter. You start with primary and later, you can choose another one, so you can have primary class which can tank damage and secondary which is focused on healing and support, so in the end, you get a tank with pretty decent sustain. This game is really not scared of giving player ability to find a good combination of classes to fit well with everyone's play style. There is also a weekly tower raid, I think that's from where the SAO-related review came from.
When I played it many years ago the character was customazable, did they change that? I must say it's completely different from my playthrough. I created a paladin tank, and my first quest was in the middle of a battle, but that was around 2017
I remember playing this years ago. It was legitimately less... buggy. I can only assume that Gamigo has impaled its claws into the game and just forgot or don't care about fixing bugs. Including this weird thing with the ambience and music.
might be the new features and zones (i remember starting in a different starting zone back when i played... though that was back when that samurai class just came out)
So... its like i remembered, a decent enough game to put a few hours per week with decent graphics and a normal story, i can live with my first ever mmo being a 7/10

One note for this game, you don't run out of main quests early on. You have to either check the journal manually and then search for the specific npc said quest or it pops up on screen.
It's not just the chibi class that has needless upskirting. All the female outfits have terrible physics where the skirts just fly up as you run. I had a purple dress on a reaper character and I couldn't run without seeing some lacy purple lingerie that looks like Victoria's Secret made it.
The tutorial sounded like cepstral's text to speech software, as there was an unnatural speech break about halfway through, and it sounded like the audio was just copy and paste for the most part.
Wow, I thought you were going to tear this game apart. This is one of the few games that I lasted and enjoyed playing for a very long time, maybe 3 or 4 years. I remember that although the game had its things to pay for and such, it was more something aesthetic, mounts and such and it was not so p2w, I mean you could get things from the shop without putting a penny, that was the way I I played it at least. Apparently it has become quite p2w today, that's a sad thing. (English isn't my main language, sorry)
Omg I used to play this when I was a child! I loved how engaging the story was and how vast the weapon choice was. But it got so overwhelmingly repetitive after a while, I would always quit around the same levels.
I actually first played Aura Kingdom via a private server that managed to fix a few of the starting errors, like when you pick the helper pet there isn't that discord thing covering the descriptions, and the experience overall was still only about an 8/10. I imagine the game was really hopping back in it's hay-day.
@@Makgeulli You do know, that you can accumulate hours by just having it run in the background and not actually playing, right? Also its not about the time spent, but the quality of the time spent.

When I played it, the game has a fishing mechanic which allowed the player to auto-fish while AFK, allowing them to get sellable loot and some mats just by having the game on and auto-fishing overnight
I remember playing that on the Switch bc it didn't need the Nintendo Online sub to play, lol. Making your own superhero is pretty fun, altho the plot is hard to follow if you aren't super up to speed with the comic books. I knew a good chunk of the characters but a lot of the villains I was like, "??? who tf is that"
The scroll for the quests is because the language used is not English with Roman character but Korean; which is read left to right. So the bar going left -right is the equivalent of a western text bar used to scroll up and down :)

This game was actually very competent and one of the top choices for an Anime MMO when it released. Not quite sure what happened over the last years to introduce all of these oddities and bugs.
I think they started to prioritize the mobile/Steam sequel AK2.

That's how I learned to play MMOs :
Full.
"I'm going on another list arn't I ?" that is how you know an MMO belongs on this series.

(which also caused drama)
Most of our members quit when he got banned.

That reminds me of the drama on my old Metin 2 p-server.
I need more of her in game :(((((
"I leave the shop because it makes me sad". Sounds like an entry from my diary.

The only one game of these that I played probably the same amount was this one. :D
I remember trying out Wizards 101? but that ended after about an hour or so.

10k hrs
ngl I was ADDICTED to the fishing minigame in this MMO.
Some things to correct about the video:
- The sound doesn't starts muted
- The default interface arrangement (At least for me) was different from that. And if it wasn't, there is an option to reset the ui to way it was supposed to start.
- The starcaller intro is coompletely different from other classes
- You CAN create a guitarrist for FREE, but you need a high level character for that (I think at least one char on level 90)
Aside from that, I agree with everything. I honestly only play this game for the dungeons and visual.
Is the game playable free2play or is it hard pay to win?
I loved this game when I was a teenager, lmao, Gamingo killed it :(

If you think that's a confusing way to open your inventory, there's an episode of Extra Credits where Dan says that James Portnow helped a developer that, for some baffling reason, had made a game where you opened your inventory by triple-clicking your character.
As in, literally the character you play as on the screen.
Nothing should require triple clicking or triple button presses. There is no reason to have three layers of interaction for anything.

Recommend to play or review in this series ^^
Here's what I mean, and I gathered this from playing on my Gunslinger/Grenadier by actually paying attention:
Level 1 - 20: 35%/56% of your experience bar is gained from completing a quest, depending on type.
Level 72-78: 12% across the board
Level 78+ (I'm currently level 81, if I'm remembering correctly): 8% across the board.
This progression should be fixed and make way more sense. As it is right now, it's not balanced at all.
"The love child of Alucard from Castlevania and Gaius van Baelsar" I'm fucking crying with that quote
"Some evil dude who looks like the lovechild of Alucard from Netflix's Castlevania and Gaius van Baelsar"

Yeah exactly 8 doubt they didnt like it
@@Makgeulli You do know, that you can accumulate hours by just having it run in the background and not actually playing, right?
Also its not about the time spent, but the quality of the time spent.
@@Varichan Yeah, i heard that a lot of people with absurdly high played hours are simply people who keep the game running day and night, just so that they can eventually write a memey review and get 5 minutes of fame. It's kind of sad.
When I played it, the game has a fishing mechanic which allowed the player to auto-fish while AFK, allowing them to get sellable loot and some mats just by having the game on and auto-fishing overnight
Or someone that just boosted their playtime on a service. Not even to need to run the game yourself.
Heya josh, I have a request. Could you maybe do like a review about dcuo or something? I'd love to hear your honest opinions on it.
whats that?
@@PhoenixAriel DC Universe Online.
I remember playing that on the Switch bc it didn't need the Nintendo Online sub to play, lol. Making your own superhero is pretty fun, altho the plot is hard to follow if you aren't super up to speed with the comic books. I knew a good chunk of the characters but a lot of the villains I was like, "??? who tf is that"
This is legit "Baby Hatsune Miku MMO".
The scroll for the quests is because the language used is not English with Roman character but Korean; which is read left to right. So the bar going left -right is the equivalent of a western text bar used to scroll up and down :)
19,823 hours, or 2.26 Years of straight game play. Jesus Christ that's commitment.
