This is a great video Rixi! I feel "a breath of fresh air" really encapsulates Mabinogi rn. The updates have really enriched fantasy life in Mabinogi and taken away the edge of being an end-gamer.
Man... I haven't actively played Mabi since somewhere between 2014 and 2016, since a friend I made though the game passed away. I need to play this again. RIP Shisummy.

Yesterday, from a long journey in older Maplestory servers, i gave a chance to Mabinogi. It's just incredible beautiful. I really loved the game aesthethics. I think i will try to socialize later (i couldn't too much, a lot of people AFK). Cool video!

Thank you for all you do for the community! With that being said, I have a few thoughts I'd like to share: 1. Tin might not be Blaanid but he's an angel! PLZ NO KILL T.T 2. Blaanid is pretty cool. I like her a lot, too. 3. YOU HAVE ALL OF THE ARCANA MAXED OUT?! That's insane. I'm working on Harmonic Saint and the leveling struggle is so real. 4. You mentioned the 'wrong way to heal' ...I am intrigued! 5. You're very cool and I'm glad we're friends :)
When somebody pointed out it's been 20 years since the first release, I felt SO OLD and I didn't even play since the start (though, I did start when there were still European servers lol). I recently came back and went on to make a new chara and man, it was so much fun! I can't wait for the Unreal Engine update, I wonder how pretty the updated Mabinogi will look.
I'm so glad to see this game is still up and running. I played when it first came out (20 years ago haha) and absolutely loved the game. I think about it often as I made some awsome friends from there and it was such a fun time. I really miss this game.
I miss playing this game but I know my biggest issue I had was trying to find people to play with. Everyone usually just stands around Dunbarton and does nothing and it is hard to find people who are newer to the game.
Both the discord and the twitch community are very active. It's difficult to find a party if you only recruit in game. Mostly due to the majority of the content being instance based. You only see the ones that are afk or taking a break since everyone else is in a mission ready.
The fact that its free is major incentive for me to try this game, currently im playing ff 14 but if i ever take a break there is mabinogi to play & since its free, im going to consider it fun & quaint like runescape.
This really makes me wanna get into the game, I use to play it when it was in was in open beta and when it first came out, but the game was so hard and I couldn't find people to do dungeons with, and everything was so confusing, it seems like from this video everything can be solo now I hope, it seems like it had a lot of QoL stuff happen to it over the years, I always remember the amazing music it has. say what you want about Nexon games, Maple story Mabinogi I know it not a nexon game but and Latale all had amazing music. i remember really love just making music in the game and playing it lol. it so cool that the game not only still going but has so many people making stuff for it.
for a 16 year game i played mabi when i was like 11 years old When the ninja class release along with the ninja outfit everyone was wearing and i played again at 16 im 21 years old now and ive gotta say the graffics in this game hold up great in my opinion compared to other anime games
There are literally no MMO that can hook me as much as Mabinogi does, sure in term of gameplay mechanic wise its not as good as the top one available in the market but no games out there can give you the sense of freedom and the feeling of living a fantasy life as a protagonist from another world as well as Mabinogi does, they aren't lying when they marketed the game as living your fantasy life.
The graphic is not a problem for me. it just monetization. I love the game it was really fun back in the early days. With way more activity. And players fights in the middle of town and bunch other things. Now just feel dead with most people just standing around showing off their outfits. Which is kind of boring. I like dress up my character as much other the person but, it more enjoyable see an active community running around doing stuff and doing stuff with others. There use be alway bunch people in early days with party up to get people do stuff. Now just see party up for selling or some other random stuff. Nothing actually active.
There was a fight in Dunbarton just yesterday with a whole group of people. lol. Being on channel 1 is a mistake if you want to see active players, the players selling things create lag for anyone doing combat. Channels 7 and 9 you'll often see parties recruiting for content. Discord is where most players go for party recruitment however, which has changed the number of parties recruiting in game. You'll still see SW Elite parties recruiting on Friday, and Glenn Bearna/Crom Bas parties on Saturday and Sunday when the limit resets. I say this next bit as an active player engaged with the community, and I don't mean it in an abrasive way. If it seems dead, you haven't really looked. Most people playing the game aren't standing around showing off their outfits, but you can't see them while they're in the dungeon. 👍
My experiences with them have all been positive. The one complaint is that, due to restrictions on what they are allowed to say, if you are banned they almost always give vague answers about why/what information they have. Other than that, they are very competent and polite. They once even helped me by returning an item I had dropped by mistake that despawned.
I havent played in 7 years but i used to be a giant i was so young i barely remember my cumulative lvl but god i miss this game it was BEAUTIFUL and i wanna get back in but didnt want to restart :( i had wings :( and a soul sword and dragon lol if i restart ill be nothing i had the beast mode to its lion form instead of wolf and demigod maxxed i may redownload the game and start over tho i really do miss this game ❤ ty for the encouragement to get back in
You might be able to get the old account back if you reach out to player support, though I can't promise anything. I do know of others who were able to recover characters they thought were lost this way! If not, the Dungeon Guide reward boxes will get you a Bone Dragon and Mir Dragon so you can fly a dragon again!

Hey. Do you get to do these Blaanid stuff even though you don't create new character? I'm by no means high level but my old character definitely don't want to restart for transformation and etc. Also, is there a guide on what to do once you return being gone for 4-7+ years?
Yes, Blaanid is automatically in your quest window if you haven't done it. The quest is "[Brave Boost] A Blue Fragrance on the Wind". As for guides, I have a playlist of them on my channel featuring videos from my own and several other channels on a variety of topics. I try to keep them listed in order of relevance for a new player!
Mabinogi 2. Graphics update. VR crossplay. Server rental for AI companions (so neuro can play too). Network update for lan AI server rentals. Good/bad idea?
Bad idea in 2025. Maybe in 10 years when we have a better idea of how AI really integrates into mainstream usage, beyond creatives and enthusiasts, then I could have a more complex opinion on the idea of AI integrations... Right now I can only see it as a gimmick rather than a compelling and integral part of the game. With the technology we have in 2025 it would be worse than what we're getting with Eternity (UE5 upgrade). I think with the current state of things you would lose a significant amount of quality by trying to create crossplay to non-standard set ups as well. Mabinogi at it's best is one of the least compatible games for crossplay due to the complex controls needed to interact with the game at a high level.
I always come back to this game every few years, because whenever my classless systems brain starts to crave something, Mabi is usually the only thing that delivers. 10/10 will lose a few months of my life to this game for the simple wonder of doing whatever i want in game form
I just thought of a real issue I played this game since the beginning up until the intro to puppet master..here’s the issue pre server merge I had characters in each sever with same name what happens to them
They get a "+servername" added to their name. So if you had 4 characters named "A", one would still be A, while the others would be A+Alexina, A+Mari, A+Tarlach, or A+Ruiari. Whichever character is the oldest of them wouldn't get the "+servername" tag.
thankfully its not 16 years of names that you got to somehow get through, the server merges made any name that had a competing name in another server added with what ever server they were from, so basicly every even slighly popular name got cleared up. mabi definintly got better with in the last while with progression, only thing that still stands out is how erg is for some talents and tech limits being 1 stage to early for forcing slower progression.
Hey so i restarted i was doing really good and then i softlocked my blaanid questline.... on the letter section i sccidentally clicked recieve letter and now it isnt in the mailbox to read like it tell me to go do so i havent been able to progress in it bc of that 😅

👍Unfortunately my list is perpetually full, but you can use the "Send Message" (button at top of friend list window), Note (also same window, works with offline players), or Mailbox (outside any bank) features in game to reach out to players not on your list. I'm faster at responding to messages on discord rather than in game anyway. lol
what i really think mabinogi needs in 2025 is a mobile + pc version to reach new players, cause the mobile market is huge, part of me wants it to happen with eternity, a fresh start for everyone, but we keep our old pets and outfits / hairstyles and eyes youve ever used on your account, just tied to our account (i still think its dumb you need a beautiy ticket to change your hair style for some hair's faces and eyes, its so limiting and annoying.).. . but all the names arn't taken.
A fresh start would lose the current player base without the guarantee of making a new one. They could open a new server, but they couldn't do a complete wipe. They also won't do this as they've spent 100 billion won developing Mabinogi Mobile, which was very recently announced for... March or May? I think it said 05.03, but I'm not sure which is the month and which is the day since everything was in Korean and I didn't translate it. It's unlikely for Eternity to compete with the mobile launch.
@@Fierlyt yeah a lot of investment into mabinogi mobile, but i haven't heard anything about it going global, they are probably waiting to see if it dose well in korea, and then maybe a year down the line it will go global, but they should really invest in making a pc launcher for it too. what ever the case ill still be playing, if its new or old, but they really need to do a re-launch with the names. cause i and many other people lost our names with the server mergers, anddd that like, some accounts probably hadn't touched this game in 15 years.... 😓 is what it is, i just miss my old name mostly.... ... i will probably make a new guy just to experience eternity with fresh eyes... just hope mabinogi isnt killed off in favor of mobile,,, witch tends to be the trend in gaming.
I know I'm the minority here but I miss classes in mmo's. "Classless" or "Can do everything" used to be a huge selling point for mmo's to be "different" but I feel like the majority now do this. I miss the days where I could choose a class, learn it, play my role, and I was unique from the other classes. It also gave me reasons to start new characters. Not really a fan of the do everything motto so this game probably isn't for me. Thanks for the in depth review though!
Sure thing! There are a plethora of home MMOs for you still as WoW, Black Desert, Guild Wars, FF14, Lost Ark, and most others popular MMOs will lock you into role and class selection. Even in MOBA and FPS categories of MMOs rarely let you hotswap classes. The FPS games that let you change loadouts on respawn come close though. There's very few classless multiplayer games in general. Only New World really comes to mind as breaking away from classes, and they still lock you to the weapons you have equipped while in combat. Do you know of any upcoming MMOs that claim to be classless? I like to give them a try. I've been keeping an eye out but haven't seen any. Edit: I suppose the survival category has been championing classless... stuff along the lines of PalWorld. That has been a trend!

I keep joining and quitting every other year. "Oh I'll just cook since I'll never be rich enough to afford weapon upgrades" except you need tons of money to get ingredients anyway. So I just give up. Time and effort mean nothing, all about that cash.
Nothing stops you quite as easily as yourself. I don't know anyone struggling to buy cooking ingredients, that's just not a thing if you attempt any way to get gold. Rewards from any dungeon or mission offset repairs and turn a profit, and selling materials or items to other players from part time jobs or basic collection/crafting tasks is entry level economics. It's just a matter of wanting to do it and having the time. I respect giving up because you didn't want to or because you didn't have fun, that's fair, but giving up because everyone else put in effort you didn't and saying that time and effort means nothing is a tad silly. To the contrary, it's disrespectful to the time and effort the others did put in to get where they are to say it means nothing (although, it is a game, so it's a bit silly to say it means anything in the first place). The economy in game is robust, and gold isn't out of reach if you want it.

I'd love to hear how you would fix these issues. I know neither of us can actually change anything about the game, but how would you go about making these issues better if you could? The way I've approached it, to some extent, was making information about how to progress available to a wider audience. There are lots of low level strategies to make gold that are outlined in several guides, including one I've tried to assemble, and I've tried to disclose info on various upgrade systems and routes of progress when I can. Progress in Mabi isn't easy, but it can be steady and done without cash to a very high level. Most players won't understand the bigger picture or what progress can be made because the game doesn't hold your hand through the later stages, but we can make up for that with community resources to some extent. (Edit: Doesn't FFXIV have a sub fee as its monetization model? I thought that game required cash to play at a high level.)

@1UPCherry How would you replace the RNG? Would you prefer a pity system, fail stacks, or a slightly higher cost for guaranteed success, or are you saying to remove the upgrade systems (erg, special upgrade, enchant, etc.) entirely? I'd disagree to removing pets that have powerful effects. Most of the game is the same if you only have the pets they give for free, with the option to buy pets for gold from other players (granted, it's a lot of gold) as needed. Most of those pets have a very narrow usage and a minor impact on gameplay aside from Phoenix pets. Would it be better if they just directly sold the pets? Or do you also take issue with them introducing new pets in general? A sub for the game would be negatively received at this point. How is that less about cash if they directly require it for playing the game with no other benefit to the player? The VIP service basically functions as a sub fee without interrupting free play. What benefits would come from adding a sub fee?
Are the clothes and cosmetics still gender locked? I've always hated that when the rebirth system gave you the freedom to swap genders, and then instead of just getting rid of the gender requirements, they came out with eluned versions of clothings. x.x
I love this game....until we hit the crusader arc then its got some of the worst content in the game (also some of the best but i like to pretend to raids arent crusader content lol) squires almost made me quit because of how much time gating is a problem with it and how essential chainblade skillsl are locked behind it.
At least now you can skip DM and Spinning Slasher quests since Blaanid gives you those. It's only Bachram Explosion and Raging Spike, which aren't necessary skills until you either have that technique that needs r1 Bachram Explosion or want Dark Diviner.
sadly mabinogi is 100% pay to win, main reason i leave the game after 6 years playing daily, once reforges were implemented everything went to waste. am surprised this game still alive, no wonder why this game has to be merged into a single server
i first started playing 14 years ago. and I miss it dearly. i have not found the same joy in any other MMO since.
There’s just so much to do, a working music system, fashions and dyes, complete freedom to make the character you want. It’s such a unique game.

The wrong way to use healing: Only on yourself, becoming an immortal warrior on the front line. Also, it's an anime. 👍

Yeah right. Played this since working in Hong Kong. But after returning to SIN it was so hard to get the updates downloaded ...

Hey. Do you get to do these Blaanid stuff even though you don't create new character? I'm by no means high level but my old character definitely don't want to restart for transformation and etc. Also, is there a guide on what to do once you return being gone for 4-7+ years?
Yes, Blaanid is automatically in your quest window if you haven't done it. The quest is "[Brave Boost] A Blue Fragrance on the Wind".
As for guides, I have a playlist of them on my channel featuring videos from my own and several other channels on a variety of topics. I try to keep them listed in order of relevance for a new player!

Graphics update. VR crossplay. Server rental for AI companions (so neuro can play too). Network update for lan AI server rentals.
Good/bad idea?
Bad idea in 2025. Maybe in 10 years when we have a better idea of how AI really integrates into mainstream usage, beyond creatives and enthusiasts, then I could have a more complex opinion on the idea of AI integrations... Right now I can only see it as a gimmick rather than a compelling and integral part of the game. With the technology we have in 2025 it would be worse than what we're getting with Eternity (UE5 upgrade).
I think with the current state of things you would lose a significant amount of quality by trying to create crossplay to non-standard set ups as well. Mabinogi at it's best is one of the least compatible games for crossplay due to the complex controls needed to interact with the game at a high level.
I always come back to this game every few years, because whenever my classless systems brain starts to crave something, Mabi is usually the only thing that delivers. 10/10 will lose a few months of my life to this game for the simple wonder of doing whatever i want in game form
I just thought of a real issue I played this game since the beginning up until the intro to puppet master..here’s the issue pre server merge I had characters in each sever with same name what happens to them
They get a "+servername" added to their name. So if you had 4 characters named "A", one would still be A, while the others would be A+Alexina, A+Mari, A+Tarlach, or A+Ruiari. Whichever character is the oldest of them wouldn't get the "+servername" tag.

thankfully its not 16 years of names that you got to somehow get through, the server merges made any name that had a competing name in another server added with what ever server they were from, so basicly every even slighly popular name got cleared up.
mabi definintly got better with in the last while with progression, only thing that still stands out is how erg is for some talents and tech limits being 1 stage to early for forcing slower progression.

Hey so i restarted i was doing really good and then i softlocked my blaanid questline.... on the letter section i sccidentally clicked recieve letter and now it isnt in the mailbox to read like it tell me to go do so i havent been able to progress in it bc of that 😅
Check the "Me" tab of your inventory. It's a useable item. 👍

👍Unfortunately my list is perpetually full, but you can use the "Send Message" (button at top of friend list window), Note (also same window, works with offline players), or Mailbox (outside any bank) features in game to reach out to players not on your list. I'm faster at responding to messages on discord rather than in game anyway. lol

what i really think mabinogi needs in 2025 is a mobile + pc version to reach new players, cause the mobile market is huge, part of me wants it to happen with eternity, a fresh start for everyone, but we keep our old pets and outfits / hairstyles and eyes youve ever used on your account, just tied to our account (i still think its dumb you need a beautiy ticket to change your hair style for some hair's faces and eyes, its so limiting and annoying.).. . but all the names arn't taken.
A fresh start would lose the current player base without the guarantee of making a new one. They could open a new server, but they couldn't do a complete wipe.
They also won't do this as they've spent 100 billion won developing Mabinogi Mobile, which was very recently announced for... March or May? I think it said 05.03, but I'm not sure which is the month and which is the day since everything was in Korean and I didn't translate it. It's unlikely for Eternity to compete with the mobile launch.
@@Fierlyt yeah a lot of investment into mabinogi mobile, but i haven't heard anything about it going global, they are probably waiting to see if it dose well in korea, and then maybe a year down the line it will go global, but they should really invest in making a pc launcher for it too. what ever the case ill still be playing, if its new or old, but they really need to do a re-launch with the names. cause i and many other people lost our names with the server mergers, anddd that like, some accounts probably hadn't touched this game in 15 years.... 😓 is what it is, i just miss my old name mostly.... ... i will probably make a new guy just to experience eternity with fresh eyes... just hope mabinogi isnt killed off in favor of mobile,,, witch tends to be the trend in gaming.
I know I'm the minority here but I miss classes in mmo's. "Classless" or "Can do everything" used to be a huge selling point for mmo's to be "different" but I feel like the majority now do this. I miss the days where I could choose a class, learn it, play my role, and I was unique from the other classes. It also gave me reasons to start new characters. Not really a fan of the do everything motto so this game probably isn't for me. Thanks for the in depth review though!
Sure thing! There are a plethora of home MMOs for you still as WoW, Black Desert, Guild Wars, FF14, Lost Ark, and most others popular MMOs will lock you into role and class selection. Even in MOBA and FPS categories of MMOs rarely let you hotswap classes. The FPS games that let you change loadouts on respawn come close though. There's very few classless multiplayer games in general. Only New World really comes to mind as breaking away from classes, and they still lock you to the weapons you have equipped while in combat. Do you know of any upcoming MMOs that claim to be classless? I like to give them a try. I've been keeping an eye out but haven't seen any.
Edit: I suppose the survival category has been championing classless... stuff along the lines of PalWorld. That has been a trend!

I keep joining and quitting every other year. "Oh I'll just cook since I'll never be rich enough to afford weapon upgrades" except you need tons of money to get ingredients anyway. So I just give up. Time and effort mean nothing, all about that cash.
Nothing stops you quite as easily as yourself. I don't know anyone struggling to buy cooking ingredients, that's just not a thing if you attempt any way to get gold. Rewards from any dungeon or mission offset repairs and turn a profit, and selling materials or items to other players from part time jobs or basic collection/crafting tasks is entry level economics. It's just a matter of wanting to do it and having the time. I respect giving up because you didn't want to or because you didn't have fun, that's fair, but giving up because everyone else put in effort you didn't and saying that time and effort means nothing is a tad silly. To the contrary, it's disrespectful to the time and effort the others did put in to get where they are to say it means nothing (although, it is a game, so it's a bit silly to say it means anything in the first place). The economy in game is robust, and gold isn't out of reach if you want it.

I'd love to hear how you would fix these issues. I know neither of us can actually change anything about the game, but how would you go about making these issues better if you could?
The way I've approached it, to some extent, was making information about how to progress available to a wider audience. There are lots of low level strategies to make gold that are outlined in several guides, including one I've tried to assemble, and I've tried to disclose info on various upgrade systems and routes of progress when I can. Progress in Mabi isn't easy, but it can be steady and done without cash to a very high level. Most players won't understand the bigger picture or what progress can be made because the game doesn't hold your hand through the later stages, but we can make up for that with community resources to some extent.
(Edit: Doesn't FFXIV have a sub fee as its monetization model? I thought that game required cash to play at a high level.)

@1UPCherry How would you replace the RNG? Would you prefer a pity system, fail stacks, or a slightly higher cost for guaranteed success, or are you saying to remove the upgrade systems (erg, special upgrade, enchant, etc.) entirely?
I'd disagree to removing pets that have powerful effects. Most of the game is the same if you only have the pets they give for free, with the option to buy pets for gold from other players (granted, it's a lot of gold) as needed. Most of those pets have a very narrow usage and a minor impact on gameplay aside from Phoenix pets. Would it be better if they just directly sold the pets? Or do you also take issue with them introducing new pets in general?
A sub for the game would be negatively received at this point. How is that less about cash if they directly require it for playing the game with no other benefit to the player? The VIP service basically functions as a sub fee without interrupting free play. What benefits would come from adding a sub fee?
Are the clothes and cosmetics still gender locked? I've always hated that when the rebirth system gave you the freedom to swap genders, and then instead of just getting rid of the gender requirements, they came out with eluned versions of clothings. x.x
Still gendered, unfortunately. There's a lot more Eluned outfits, but the outfits, for the most part, are gendered.

I love this game....until we hit the crusader arc then its got some of the worst content in the game (also some of the best but i like to pretend to raids arent crusader content lol) squires almost made me quit because of how much time gating is a problem with it and how essential chainblade skillsl are locked behind it.
At least now you can skip DM and Spinning Slasher quests since Blaanid gives you those. It's only Bachram Explosion and Raging Spike, which aren't necessary skills until you either have that technique that needs r1 Bachram Explosion or want Dark Diviner.

sadly mabinogi is 100% pay to win, main reason i leave the game after 6 years playing daily, once reforges were implemented everything went to waste. am surprised this game still alive, no wonder why this game has to be merged into a single server
