- Here we have a Tiger Electronics R-Zone Super Screen with Battle Arena Toshinden game! It's a rare device from 1996 and it doesn't seem to work. Let's see if we can fix it?!
Is this gonna be another easy one?!
Hope you enjoy!
Steve
PS. I'm not an expert in repairs at all. I do this for fun, and it may not be the best or safest way to go about repairing broken stuff. I'm pretty good at melting plastic though. Please don't copy me - I'm an idiot.

One of my 2 favorite Steves on UA-cam. The other is Steve Wallis. The subject matter is very interesting, but it's the humor and personality that keeps me watching.
To be honest, I enjoy the complex repairs a little more because I learn a lot from you in the process. I like to repair things myself and am fascinated by your skills and courage to tackle complicated problems.
Love how happy and joking you always are in your videos, keep it up!
I actually really appreciate that you said "shed some light on the situation... pun intended" :) . It's a massive peeve to me when people spew out a "pun not intended" when it clearly was... usually accompanied by a big stupid grin.
Steve, i have that screwdriver set. You can lengthen the tip by pulling down on the metal ring below where the bit attaches, and the bit holder telescopes out 3 extra inches.
You didn't need to switch screwdrivers. I found this out by accident.
I have to say, it is amazing how many items I have fixed merely opening up the case and seeing absolutely nothing wrong and put it back together and it mysteriously works perfect... I th Thumbs Up!ink that is called VOODOO electronics!
It amazes me how much stuff is out there that we've never seen before. Pretty cool watching this one, thanks!
Another nice one, Steve! The mechanical problem solving is a great inspiration for everyone who don't own the skills to think out of the box and use every day items to fix things they were not initially ment to. And the bulb is a plus. And the singing is a major plus. 😁
😁 thanks Pedro! I've never had anyone refer to my singing as a major plus before! 🤣
Great video Steve, an unusual item as well, never seen one before 👍
Thanks Vince, yeah it's a really lovely item... I've never come across one before either! 👍
Great video Steve! Easy ones are still good, keep em coming!
Thanks Travis! Much appreciated! 👍
Brilliant video and channel, I love the variety of repairs and the honesty. And what an interesting game, I have never seen one of those before.
Thanks Dan, really appreciate that! Yeah, it's a really intersting item, i've never seen one like it before either! 👍
Another great video Steve! Hope you’ll make a profit with it!! Definitely agree with your comments at the end about these videos being relatable for people like me. Still enjoy watching your delicate soldering too!
Thanks Kieron! I've been doing more delicate soldering today! But, it definitely feels good to fix something with just a few bits and bobs out of the shed! 👍
Nice work Steve. I can see that the Dymo label machine has been pressed into service in the O-ring department...
😁 thanks Steve! Yeah, I label everything with that Dymo. I've even labelled the label maker! 😂
Great video Steve! And quite a strange item. Ive never seen that form factor
Thanks Arreglando. Yeah, I've never seen one like this before. It's certainly an interesting item! 👍
I'm sure you've had to answer this before but- I wonder, what do you do with the repaired devices? Sell them? Just curious. I really like this content!
I do like the easy ones but i also like going a bit beyond what i know, the investigation of it all is oddly fascinating

I saw the look of a little frustration at the end..
I wish I was mechanically inclined as this gent.
I used to love taking things apart back in the day, but id always have pieces left over..
This thing just reminded me of a similar game I had as a kid. Much smaller machine, but I remember it being a fighting game with the same kind of screen, whatever it's called lol. Man that game was hard, and now just remembering the pain it caused me
That thing was released in 96?! Same year as Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64 and Tomb Raider... Wow. Guess some kids' xmases were better than others that year!
My name is, Thomas
I've subscribed to your channel and enjoy your content. Thank you for putting so much effort in your videos on repairing electronics.
Have a great week ahead and thanks again for reading my comment.
Love the ending….. even the heart in mouth moment 😉. Fantastic channel!!, as you say very relatable - well in terms of faults. I’ve got drawers full of gadgets, consoles and pads that I daren’t switch on or use in case they’re faulty as I wouldn’t have a clue where to begin to fix them. I’d like to say you’d inspire me to try, but I wouldn’t trust myself anywhere near a circuit board, especially with a soldering iron. Screwdriver, maybe.
Did not expect to come across a random recommended video I hadn't seen yet, but I'm not complaining.
Just a heads up Some Power supplies wont provide a voltage unless a significant load is connected to it, only sure way to test voltage with such supplies is to load them with a good load..
Aah, thanks 🐨! Makes sense, I didn't realise that! 👍
Thanks! Helped fixed mine in under 10 mins! Bless you!
Imagine coming down Christmas Morning 1996 and opening your big present and this monstrosity pops out! Forget your PC or PS1!
I used to have this in the XPG handheld format. It was actually quite good for what it is, though many dump on it given it was competing at the time with Gameboy(big mistake) given it's just a segmented LCD game which was Game&Watch old style tech. The amusing bit of this with yours it's projection, but the others, they're reflective lit up mirrors with a red lens, basically a ghetto virtual boy faking seriously some so called 3D with it. The games though played better than the TIger handhelds on the whole because despite being segmented numerous games actually flowed more smoothly as if it were a normal LCD screen. Daytona for example you could smoothly change lanes around cars even if it didn't look it, and Panzer Dragoon let you swivel the camera around you in all 4 ways and move a smooth reticle around to take out targets. Some of them were weak, really just lit up 80s tiger handheld fare, but others really were quite nice. I only sold mine about two years ago now because I just couldn't find games locally and online got extortionate.
Great fix and video ... plus I now know you would be a great addition to our karaoke group!
Keep up the great work 😀👍
Thanks Chris! 👍 I was at a karaoke bar the other night belting out a bit of Ice Ice Baby! 😂
I bet you were feeling nervous, @@StezStixFix. Maybe even a bit Under Pressure...
@@ToxoRetro 😂 you definitely win comment of the day! 🤣
@@StezStixFix 🙇♀️ 😜
Good to this Tiger Electronics R-Zone Super Screen that i have never seen before and great fix there Steve i did play Toshinden years ago on ps1 - Nice 1 Mate 👍
Thanks Chris! 👍 I'd never seen this one before either, it's a nice item! I believe Toshinden is on the PS Classic, so I'm going to have to play it and see what it's like! 😁
I saw one of these at a salvation army store around 2006 for about $3 and I left it. Still regretting it to this day
Another well done video!
Thanks Micro! 👍😊
hi bud l am a card artiest and you can buy different types of small to large foam pad you can get them from Hobbycraft or the Range
Thanks Bunny! I do need to go to Hobbycraft, so I'll pick some up while I'm there! Appreciate the tip! 👍
IS IT MEEE YOU'RE LOOKING FOOORR!!!
i had the headset one, and i thought it was fun back in the day lol
Damn I have one that I bought new and sealed many years ago, never worked so I kept it as a curiosity. I'm gonna open it right now and check if it's the same issue.
Edit: it worked 😂
I joined on UA-cam this week. Just curious, do you keep more money from a UA-cam or a Patreon subscription?
Hi Taylor! 😍 Thank you so much! If I'm honest, I don't really know. UA-cam doesn't even tell me when someone joins! But, from what I've heard, I think YT take a bigger cut, but it's just easier for some people to use it. 👍
Tiger “games” were always the ones you prayed you weren’t given as a gift
The first three seconds of this video are funnier than [insert comedy movie you don't like].
The singing has to stop lol !!!!
And the way you are looking at the camera.....I'm starting to feel haunted by it !
Good vid as always Steve.....the non-singing and staring bit that is.......I'm just saying lol
Haha! 😂 I promise to do it less in my next video!
i remember seeing one of these at my local car boot sale for about £1.50 back in the day I’m regretting that one
I had the headset version of this when I was a kid and it sucked. There was some kind of blotchy haze on the eyepiece that made it hard to see.
Damn it Steve I got Spicy Girls playing in my head now hahaha
Lovely fix, always had issues with these old bulbs, odd type of bulb.
🤣 sorry about that Tony! I struggled to find that bulb, there don't seem to be many in existence any more! I did try an LED bulb in its place but it didn't illuminate the screen properly at all, so it definitely needs the old type in there! 😊
haha no worries,
Ah that sucks :( they way hard enough to find back in the day and if they are even harder now then dang :(
🐯 games. Gotta love them for their history, but they’re meh to play.
Nice fix!
I wonder if a light diffuser would make it look better?
HELLO...🎶🎶🎵 , I LIKED IT A LOT . WELL DONE . I HAVE SEEN YOUR CHANNEL AND EVERYTHING THAT HAS TO DO WITH ELECTRONICS IS VERY INTERESTING . 😎👍🖐️😉
Hellooooo is it me your looking for lol captain bodge been a while sorry buddy been working alot but now court up with all you videos bow tho please keep them coming 😜👍🥰
Thanks Jinxy! Will do bud! 😍
1st class video to watch thank you take care kind regards from me kenneth🙈🙉🙊
Hello! I was looking for a rom of mame and I got to know this game too. nice video friend.😃
Thanks Kleber! I didn't know much about this game before I fixed up this handheld. Lovely little thing it is too! 👍
Mine has a bit of charge, but I can't get it to charge.Where are you based and how much do you charge to fix it?
That’s a great game I had it for the gameboy. They were trying to copy street fighter but their both great games
I love your antics Steve, really do! Never fail put a smile on my face or some light in my life (see what I did there? ;) )
😂 Haha. Thanks Wayne! 👍
Please revisit this and replace the bulb with a diffused white LED. The batteries will last longer too.
Brilliant
hey its me you set our tv up remember?
😁 yes, I do remember. Enjoy the Coronation Street Christmas Special! 😂
Never heard someone say battle arena so confused. It was a classic
Great vid, never seen or heard of this handheld before, super rare!
Stupid game tho!
maybe you should start by repairing your 9v adapter, since you repair things
Tiger electronics are well known as _poor boys_ gameboy those can’t afford a gameboy I had those trade it for other kids Tiger handhelds it was fun while it lasted good memories..
Ps: you can replace that bulb for an LED for more brightness.
nice fix!!!💞
Hi Steve,
First off! I love your videos secondly can you give us the origins of "Dave"? I scoured your past videos, and I never got the story. What's the dealeo? your pal Sonny from the USA . PS keep up the good work!
I had one of them as a kid
You should try modding it with an LED. Various colors might even make the screen look better.
Good idea, but I think it's too rare to do that.
Great job Steve :) Pour ya self beer 🍺🍺 or 2 ;)
Cheers Gordon! 🍻 😊
How much was people trying to sell it for i can buy 1 now on etsy boxed really good condition for £80 im tempted to by it
Another fun fix. $300-400 for that thing? Meh, I'd rather have my Xbox. Yeah, it's always fun to get to the end of the fix and say "hey, I think I could have done that one."
For me you are the British Ben Heck
I'll take that! 😁
Nice
Hello 👍
Hello Saad! 👍
You don't think anyone has joined eh! I Joined that too! when seen it was available (Game-boy video) Double support, Patreon & now! UA-cam' Brother Steve 😲
You! triggered me! at the start singing & throughout. I'm not going to do All the songs! edited for you video, just the first one 🤣👍🏻
Hello, is it me you're looking for?
'Cause I wonder where you are and I wonder what you do
Are you somewhere feeling lonely or is someone Fixing you?
Tell me how to win This Game, for I haven't got a clue
But let me start by saying, Steve Fixed You!
😁 Thanks brother Steve! Yeah, I noticed after editing that I had a few who had joined, but UA-cam didn't tell me about it! Oops! Thanks for the double support though! Really appreciated!
I'm definitely gonna have to sing that song on karaoke! 😂
Sellotape rules!
I still need to get that 'I Love Sellotape' t-shirt.
I had one with 3 games looks cool on but not to play i was a kid n swopt it for a snes with games good at time
It was one you put on your head
Games look same
That's such a major design flaw on Tiger Electronic's part
More informative topics please. Stay connected. Sending my support from PinoyNTrending
comment first, watch later~
I knew you were English by just looking at you, isnt that weird haha (fellow brit btw :P)
Great fix, missed opportunity to justify a 3d printer to the wife ;).
Holy shit... I was on the fence about getting one of these pieces of shit about a month ago on Ebay (I had the original R-zone as a kid and it almost ruined my childhood lol), great collectors item without doubt, great vid as always brother!
Thanks Stephen! Yeah, the gameplay on this thing is as terrible as it looks, but the item itself has got some real charm to it! I guess it's just different to anything else out there! 😁
@@StezStixFix Charm it does have!
should have tried with some good LED lights
How strange.. 11 months later in 2022.. and we have rain.. literally thinking "That's the heatwave gone" 🤣😂
Brought to you by Lacoste.
🤣
I think this device was better when it was broken.
I had the r zone "vr" set. Pretty trash lol
u won!
If a tiger system stops working, i mostly see it as a good thing.
Now for a new video by UA-camr; Stez (Sellotape) SticksFix. 😝
Karaoke is coming on. Do you do requests? I suggest The Cardigans' Replace/Rewind, Athlete's Wires, Coldplay's (I will try to) Fix You and The Killers' All These Things That I've Done (I've got soul, but I'm not a solder).
This game looks like if Soul Calibur was on a backlit Game & Watch on steroids.
I know these are valuable, but would flirting with a warm white 3v LED been treason? Probably would save power on those D cells. Sorry, got to go; apparently I've been invited to go to a tower or something...
😂 Some excellent song suggestions there Toxo! I'll get right on it!
I did actually try an LED bulb in it, but cut it out. The way the light distributed was awful because the LED fires straight up, so it wasn't being refracted properly! But yeah, that was my first thought too! 🤣
Fair@@StezStixFix; worth a try.
Maybe tape in a fisheye lens. 🤣😝
…is it me you’re waiting for? 😀
Battle….. toads?!?!
Weird seeing an R-Zone that isn't lit up red.
Why did anyone think it was a good idea to have that switch instead of just leaving the screen on? Then you could at least adjust the screen as you like, have less chance of failure and maybe save a little on the things manufacturing costs.
Do not use lamps. Use leds.
Is so surprising that they were still selling these while the games were availible on the PS1 or simular. Seems tom be about as good as a tomy racer but this game is aimed at a very much more mature audience.
Probably has a lot to do with why it's so rare. It was something only bought by gullible grannies, not something kids would actually have asked for.
I mean, think about it - in 1996, the Game Boy was seven years old. How much would a second-hand one and a couple of pre-owned carts have been vs. the cost of this thing? And you would ACTUALLY have got hours of fun out of a Game Boy!
@@sanityormadness quite surprising yes, Donkey Kong was from 82 and light years better than this (ok, no cartridges, but still...)
I don't have a shed...
Please, anything but Black Lace! blehhggghhh!
Is it me you're looking for?
❤❤❤💪💪💪💪👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Seller in Ireland selling one for $2900aud++
dont even have a shed🤔🤔😮☹️
Probably better off with no power.
I always forget the name of the R-Zone Head Gear, made by the same company. My friend had one when we were kids and I always remember it as "the even worse Virtual Boy" but most people have no idea what I'm talking about. The AVGN episode about it bumped up public knowledge a bit but I just automatically click on anything with "R-Zone" in the title because these products are so rarely discussed.
Poor design on the internals. I wonder if this is a common failure that drove the price up since many were probably thrown away?
Looks like a credit card reader
