I saw Larry Carlton for the 1st time in the seventies, live in concert with the Jazz Crusaders. It was at the Greek Theater (an outdoor venue) in Berkeley (Berserkeley as it was known then) Ca. Al Jarreau was also on the bill. Underneath a full moon, I was totally blown away and have been a diehard Larry Carlton fan since. What a beautiful, wonderful and unforgettable night!
Oh, so sweet. This is music! Wonderful band. LC has the gift to be able to blend everything, R'n'B, Country, Jazz, Blues into every solo and play with soulfulness. No wonder he was the most requested session man for decades.
A classic example of how to play blues-rock in a band. No shredding, but a wealth of memorable and musical playing by Larry Carlton. It is also a lesson to see that he gets 'his sound' no matter what axe he uses.
Ah - the old Fender 'Turdocaster Deluxe'. Very hard to find one these days... You are correct of course 'Chooseyourblues'. Larry Carlton is one of those players who has an instantly recognisable sound and style. Once saw Santana on a talk show who picked up his PRS and played it acoustically (No amp...) and you could hear instantly it was him. The mark of a truly unique player. Think LC would fall into this category..?
Great Version of Minute by Minute, Larry is great and his CD have exelent quality of sound recording, thats why sound better this song tha the original, Michale Mc DOnald and Dobbie Brothers original Version. LArry is super. in his style.
Wouldn't dare take ANYTHING away from LC, but no doubt he's uses the same effects pedal "compressor" that many, including myself, use when playing single coil guitars like the "one and only" TELECASTER!
you can't compare great guitar players. each follows the groove as they hear it. the best, the best, the best, and on and on into nauseating ad infitinitum.
Just blows me away that LC can play any guitar and get the same tasteful feel.... Hear him play Room 335 on a Strat....just as awesome as when he uses his 335....Looks like a 52' Tele he's playing here (luck man...)
Some say that this Telecaster is completely stock. I disagree..those don't look like the stock, vintage frets to me...more like medium jumbo frets. Also, Larry talks about how the bridge pickup on this guitar "really screams", I've yet to see a video of him using the bridge pickup. He seems to be always on the neck pickup.
@MANPORT555:You cCant seriously compare Carlton with Santana guitaristish.Maybe Santana had a few hits ,but Carlton is the King of Jazz ,Rock and Pop-Guitar!!!!!!
Tight wonderful blues ... wonderful organ/bass support ...

he can make a single coil sound like a humbucker.

nice job
@bigmowerman3 Larry Carlton - guitar; Rick Jackson - keyboards; Chris Kent - bass; Moyes Lucas - drums
@journey46 you are 100% right.
That pocket is mile deep.
This was the same festival that Earth, Wind, & fire performed.
LC playing a Telecaster, yet he still sounds like Mr 335. Yup...
great track. anybody know who the bass player is?
@6x47 Dream band?
If this doesn't make you feel good, call your doctor!

Should add perhaps that his Dumble amps may just have something to do with his sound...
how do you think Michael McDonald feels being turned into a guitar sound ?

all this talk about carlton and santana.. they all learned from mike bloomfield
I agree. He could play a swineola and make it sound righteous. Swineola? That's strings stretched over a hog's ass...
great Larry... but surprised, despite best efforts he got this much out of a Tele. eh....
