    My first time sewing a shirt! Really came out nice, although it was too small. I wish that I had looked closer at the size chart vs. measurements; I needed two sizes up from what I buy RTW. But my niece saw it just after I hemmed up the bottoms and thought that it was cute when she tried it on, so I put the buttons on the other side and gave her the piece(!) Now I can make another one in my size... and probably another after that. The video was super helpful -- especially for the "burrito" pouch fold and collar attachment.

      @Just Joan - check thrift stores. I've often gotten a bag of misc. sewing 'stuff' (even if there is only one thing in the bag that I am interested in). I've seen these many times, mixed in with ancient bias tape, etc. I just throw out the rest and I've only spent 25 cents to a dollar.

    What interfacing do you recommend for this shirt? I sew mostly bags, so I have a ton of Wovenfuse (fusible woven interfacing similar to Pellon SF-101, but slightly more substantial). Will that work? I've never sewn a shirt before, but my husband sacrificed his beloved tropical shirts to make masks for healthcare workers (I could only find girly fabric, and I was sure there were male nurses out there who didn't want flowers on their masks), so I'm sewing him a new one for his birthday.

    • @Wardrobebyme

      To get a nice finished collar and front edge you need interfacing.

    • @sarahml65
      @sarahml65 Рік тому

      @Divergentdesignz, I made a test one from an old sheet and didn't use interfacing and it looked fine. I've now made a proper one from linen and used interfacing, and it does give more structure to the collar and more stability to the front facing and buttonholes.

    • @Wardrobebyme
      @Wardrobebyme  2 роки тому +1

      Hi there, assuming that you are using regular weight cotton or something like it, You should use a universal needle size 70-80., together with a regular poly thread. Nothing heavy like what you use for bags, etc.

    When you sew the under collar to the “top”, is the “top” the collar piece? 🤔 When I’ve tried to sew the two together, they don’t match up. I have double checked that I cut both the pieces to the right size as well.

    • @Wardrobebyme
      @Wardrobebyme  Рік тому +1

      The under collar is smaller than the top and cut on bias and thus stretchy. This prompts the too collar to be slightly pulled under and makes it lay better.
