I ended up getting one of those gel seat pads meant for horse riders and strapping it to the seat on my supermoto then put an Alaska leather long fur dual sport sheep skin over it. Man that thing is like sitting on a cloud. It also bulks the seat out around your thighs for extra grip and thigh contact
Could you please tell me what particular horse gel seat did you buy? I also have a motard (ducati hypermotard 698) and i will buy online to a different country. So, i would like to make no mistake with my choice. Thanks!
I would also wrap the gel insert in a layer of polyester, nylon or wool fabric. Adhesive the fabric to the gel or over lapping the fabric and adhesive the fabric. Sort of if your wrapping a present. The gel can melt, get wet from heat and rain. foam is very porous to begin with. Elements will most certainly soak thru after a while even from the extra layer of foam you put on top.
Thanks for the video. I just finished the surgery on my seat. Did the whole job for less than $40 and under and 1hr. Hopefully less torturous. For those people watching this in Europe, the foam is called Headliner Upholstery or Headliner Foam.

Great video mate, doing this to my Z800, original seat is terrible. Just in case anyone wondered what the foam is called. Its called SCRIM FOAM or UPHOLSTERY FOAM in the UK :)
You cannot test sit the seat in your garage or in a show room. You must test the seat doing at least a 2-4 hr ride in the saddle.. I have a Kawasaki Z 400. I am trying to make the seat tolerable for at least 100 miles ..I ordered a sheepskin on eBay for $20 directly from Scotland. Under the sheepskin, I have what was an aerobic exercise pad my daughter gave me. It’s about 1/2 “ thick.. I doubled it over so it’s about an inch thick cut to fit under the sheepskin which I sewed Velcro at the narrowest part of the seat under the sheepskin to attach the sheepskin which keeps the pad in place at the same time. This has been the best combination.. I also tried some black foam it’s about an inch and a half thick. It looks like rubberized charcoal foam. I believe that is too thick, and it also put my balls to sleep. I had that same problem putting my junk to sleep with a Corbin seat that had a hump in the front of the seat where it meets the gas tank on my moto guzzi v11 sport.. that Corbin seat was hundreds of dollars and it was worse than the stock seat because it put my junk to sleep. I was sitting on them, and it stops and long stretches, I was always reaching down fixing everything getting them out of the way so I wouldn’t be putting all my weight on them. Don’t get a seat with a hump in it. Corbin makes a seat for my Z 400 and it has a hump in it according to A video review here on UA-cam about that specific seat for the ninja/Z 400 made by Corbin.. i’ve had dozens of motorcycles, I have had six Corbin seats. The best seat I ever had was on the stock seat on my BMW K 1200 LT. BMW motorcycles what they used to be but they sure know how to make a seat..It was very minimal, it looked almost exactly like the seed that comes on the Z 400, I could sit on that saddle 400 miles at a time. That was the best one. The second best one was a Corbin seat it was on my Honda Pacific coast for 24 years. I commuted on that machine five and six days a week , Eight months of the year here in the Northeast. I have done 700 mile days on that Corbin seat, I was not Daisy fresh at the end of a 700 mile day, but my ass was not hurting.. The stock seat on a Honda Pacific coast was too soft. You cannot ride a soft soft seat all day. It doesn’t literally pinch you, but it pinches you by being too soft. That BMW K 1200 LT seat and that Corbin Honda pacific coast said I had were very much like a horse saddle… a horse saddle is just shaped right, it doesn’t really have any padding.. I think the reason a horse saddle shape is so successful and can be written all day long, is because it is firm, and air can get around it. I think that’s why sheep skins are so good because they breathe.. I just did a 340 mile day today, 85° was the high, sort of humid, the seat on my Z 400 with the sheepskin and that inch and a half thick rubber under the sheepskin on top of the stock Z 400 seat broke my ass. My ass is broke right now, that’s why I’m here on UA-cam, Trying to get pointers from people that may have figured this out
it is really dumb from manufacturers to put uncomfortable seats on almost all bikes because really the first impression you make from a bike is when you set on it in the showroom if you feel uncomfortable most likely you'll change your mind and buy another one. like if a guy with 25$ could do a better job than a manufacturer then the world is a messed up place

I am doing this. I just did my breakin oil change and finally went for a longer ride of a couple hundred miles today. My butt hurts. Also my testicles which I think has to do with the shape of the seat, they just dont sit right on the seat. That can be fixed with more supportive underwear. How’d it go? I’m about to have an upholstery shop do mine and add a marine grade carbon fiber outer cover after they pad it up for me. You used a 3 mil fabric for cover? I’m just wondering if it becomes soaked in the rain right through? Either way I’m thinking I’m gonna go this route. If ya have the link for materials used let me know. Thanks! And you ain’t kidding when you say torture! The stock seat is crap! I was willing to spend $200 but, $5-$600 hell no. I rather put the damper from gpr on for $500!
Tosh Rotondo It is an improvement over stock but don’t expect a miracle with any seat this thin, even with the gel 😆 I’m in florida so I hardly ever get caught in rain, not too sure how water would effect the changes
The Corbin has horrible reviews for our bike. I went to an old school upholstery shop finally and dropped it off today. First I went on the bike so, I can show him exactly where and mark it with some tape. I did go with the marine grade carbon fiber look and just the difference in the quality of materials is night n day. Kawasaki really cheated out on the seat! I’ll be going back with the truck in a day and taking the new seat home with a temp covering. If all is well and I’m happy with it he will put my carbon on and I’m done. I’m in NYC so, I’ll probably pick it up tomorrow n ride bike back Wednesday due to rain 🌧. I’ll update ya and let ya know if it was worth it.
No motorcycle seat is uncomfortable to me because all I got to do is remember riding around on a a hard plastic seat with zero padding all day long. We used to ride 40 to 50 Mi a day on a BMX bike. But don't get me wrong at 56 there's no way I can do that today. But a motorcycle seat really is not that uncomfortable no matter what.😆
Hi, I like your idea. I was looking into doing this because my seat is uncomfortable. I saw a company called Luimoto and they're doing the same thing you're doing except they pretty much charge 300 bucks easily for you to do it with the materials you're paying for. Could I ask how much was this project cost you? I ride a 2013 Kawasaki ZX6R and my balls and inner thighs really hurts after a long ride (100+ miles).
Tommy Pham For all the supplies it only cost me about $25 total. Everything you would need should be able to find on ebay. Search for motorcycle seat gel insert and you’ll see the gel is like $18 the sow foam was only a couple of bucks and spray adhesive is like $5 a can. Good Luck!

"CAR HEADLINER FABRIC 2MM FOAM BACKED" on eBay 👍
I have park bench, ahh I mean a KTM seat I need to do something to.
Not really quick or easy but great fix . Nice video
you must be 10 years old then
@@geraldasvaitiekus4539 U must be a douche bag....keyboard warrior 🤣
But a motorcycle seat really is not that uncomfortable no matter what.😆
Damn good video
Good Luck!
Gel inserts retain heat from the sun. I do upholstery work for a living. I never suggest gel inserts for any motorcycle seat.
What would you suggest. If not gel . Im looking to re do my cbr 929rr seats. I have a per made seat leathers but would like to make them more comfortable
Well.... we're waiting!!!!
I agree. They also take a long time to warm up. My bike cave isn't heated and on 35° riding days my butt is cold for many miles.
You’re full of it. Just because you “do upholstery for a living” doesn’t make you the expert on seats. Gel is fine for bike seats. Stop scaring people to your overpriced “business model”.
I would use two piece of gel all over the seat instead of cutting the foam off.
Links for the specific products would have been really helpful, but the most important thing would have been a cut edit where you actually took your bike out for an hour or more and came back and gave your opinion on the difference.
silly me, $509 for a sargent seat for the concours. BUT....foam. leave a gel seat parked in the sun for a minute... you'll see.
My Kawasaki Versys seat is pain in the ass too
