61 Years of service. Thankyou for the memories old Phriend. You will be missed so much. I was born to late to work in them, however my dad did. 19MU RAF St Athan F4 FG.1 and FGR.2
My first experience concerning the F-4... When I was 8 or 9 years old, (1972) I walked out on the flight line at Eglin AFB and stood underneath this awesome machine to admire it. Needless to say the AP's came out to get me and take me back to base housing. That AP Tech Sgt. was all smiles when he picked me up. Been smiling ever since when I see her flying.
I remember playing ace combat 4 at a friend's house as a kid and the first plane i flew in that game was the F4 Phantom. Ever since it's been one of my favorite planes
I was going to say the same thing. When I was a kid we lived near Johnsville Naval Air Development Ctr. I drew one fin a landing mode for art project in junior high school. It was put on display.
Thank you Japan, for keeping one of the best birds out there in service for so long. She might be a brick with wings, but she's still prettier then most planes out there as far as I'm concerned
You can tell, these old Warhorses are being appreciated and cared for. Does not matter if Discreetely Grey or Green, Tan, Blue with Sharkteeth and Anniversary Markings. Immaculately clean, proper Paint, and Maintenance Stickers everywhere. o7 old Bird. You' ll be in our hearts for the rest of our lives.
Love how the pilots departing first turnback and respectfully bow their heads in recognition of the honour of leaving before their wingmen. So Japanese so respectful, let's hope there's never a day they need to exercise extreme prejudice again. The days of this beautiful big smokey birds are coming to a close. Otsukaresama.
Shear mastery, both in the air, and through this magnificent cinematic effort. Beautiful. Simply beautiful. Such a timeless jet. My deepest respect to all those who built, maintained, and flew this wonderful beast.
Beautiful video. I was an armourer on F-104S Starfighter 1988 - 1998. F-104S Starfighter had the same engine of Phantom, but the Interceptor type had General Electric GE79-J19
Watching this sums up 2020 for me, so many classic designs being retired across various modes of transport. I hope a few of these live on in museums. If I won the lottery and had a few million spare... Beautifully shot video, really shows the F-4 off to perfection.
I visited the JASDF Hamamatsu Air Base Museum last year and was told that these beautiful birds above will be decommissioned in 2020 and that they, not sure how many, will be transfered to the JASDF Hamamatsu Air Base Museum. And like most other aircraft at the museum, visitors will be able to sit in the cockpit, which I had the pleasure of doing in the F-86D and F model, F-104J Starfighter, Mitsubishi F-1 and the Mitsubishi T-2 flight simulator. There will be a last flight from Hyakuri Air Base, where this video was filmed, to Hamamatsu Air Base and I want to be there when they make that final touchdown :)
My first "ride" as a career aviator, albeit without the Rising Sun brand. I rode for another Ranch; the USMC. Those were some fun years, especially those spent in Japan.
Phantom doesn't need a shark mouth to look badass. It just is. We're lucky we have such beautiful videos to help relive this awesome aircraft when they're finally all gone. Thanks for your phantastic work preserving them. 5:43. I want a wall in my house with that on it.😉
There is nothing like the howl of an F-4 on final. First time I heard one I realized what “blown flaps” meant. As always, your video is art. Blessings to you.
The first time I saw the F4 up close was at El Centro where the Blue Angels practice part of the year. At the time, the C-5A Galaxy had just come into service and I got to tour the cockpit and view the huge cavernous flight deck. But what really caught my eyes and ears were the F-4 Phantom IIs. Painted in camouflage, the pilots would accelerate down the runway as far as they could, pull off slightly, gain as much speed as they could down the TODA and then pull hard into vertical. It looked like they were going straight up; they weren',t of course, but it was a spectacular sight and sound to see a pair of them boogie out. And then another pair. And then another pair. And then another pair. Beautiful aircraft in a very rough time. Your videos are most excellent and represent the cream of the crop. My greatest respect to you and your technique; they're the very best out there. EDIT : btw, if you ever have the chance, pass on my respects to the squadron(s) paint crews. Their liveries are quite excellent and dynamic. Beautiful.
I was stationed at Misawa AB Japan 80-83. While not stationed there JASDF F-4/RF-4s were occasional visitors including the yearly air Show. Also would see USAF and USN/USMC Phantoms at those air shows.
Awesome aircraft!! I worked on them for the U.S. Navy in 1970 & 1971. Part time was at NAS Oceana, Va...and the other part was on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Independence. Mach 2.28! Blue Angels are coming to my home town Nov 5th & 6th!!! The thrill never, ever leaves!!!
I hope we never forget what a great job the F-4 did protecting our bombers. I know I never will, because the Navy version protected our A-6 squadron, and helped bring our pilots home from Vietnam.
The Reno Nevada "High Rollers" flew RF-4s back in the 80s. The motto on the base gate was, "Don't trust anyone over 300 feet." I was at a party and heard some fun stories about flying low from pilots. Working outdoors, I heard a rumble, looked up and saw a RF-4 being chased by 2 F-4s from Fallon, all about 500 ft up. Fun times for them.
Simply breathtaking, cinematic quality filming - they should employ you on the "Top Gun" remake ! Let's be thankful that the raw power and beauty of the Phantom has been captured forever. Thank you.
Lovely video as always.I'm feeling sorry for this moment to come. I don't want to think what is going over the squadrons staff, probably one of the sadest moments in their lives. Thanks God we have you my friend, to comemorate this beautyful era. The Japanese color scheme is beautyful to my eyes. Who ever took you to do all these films is very clever, can look for distance. God bless you
Love to see aircraft I launched onboard the Big "E" ! Nothing like birds turned up full power , afterburners kick'n . Topside alert Cats 3-4 . V-2 Div. Waist Cat Warriors.
I was assigned to the first USAF unit to receive the F-4 back in 62-63-? The odd part is it replaced the F-84s we had recalled from the Guard. Also, MacDill had gone from MATS to TAC and the Cuban Crisis was in full swing. The AF stuck a J suffix on our AFSCs freezing us to that Wing and I was in the middle of a battle to get reassigned back to Japan. It took months, but I won the battle. The only time in my AF career my low rank was an asset(-:
1977 Germany, in the US Army, ADA unit, saw these guys all the time strafing our base. They jam us we jam them { training } it was fun times, I was 18 yrs old. Good times! Love the F-4, always will. PS : Don't answer but how do you get any thumbs down on this video?

Sad to see the end is close by for our friend, the Phabulous Phantom. We must remember how revolutionary she was when she first took flight on May 27th, 1958, almost 62 years ago. The fact that she's still out there, albeit in dwindling numbers, sadly, speaks volumes of just how good she was and still is. God Speed, mighty Phantom!

A great aircraft and I'm sad to see them in their twilight year. Massive shout out to the JASDF who kept these Iconic aircraft flying all these years

Loved seeing the Phantoms over the Lakes when I was a kid, even today they are still looker of a jet.

Every good thing must eventually come to its end even the phantoms are no exception and I’m actually glad they lasted this long into the 2020s

Worked on the F4-E Fire Control System (radar) from 1968-72 in the USAF. My favorite jet fighter aircraft.

A beautiful selection of Phantom IIs.
I had no idea, the Phantom was still in any active military service.
They really suck the fuel down, in full afterburner.

Turkey still has them and probably will for a while so the Phantom still has some chance.
And South Korea
The Cinematography is only surpass by the beautiful teeth, sultry curves, and long up turns wings of your models beauty...
