    THANK YOU so much fir sharing your knowledge and advice with us - I REALLY needed the guidance you gave because I’m dealing with all of this right now and having been recently widowed I’m facing these decisions on my own, and terrified of making mistakes. You helped me a lot so I can be braver and hopefully make the right decisions. 😇

    THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting this informative video. I appreciate your video and am SO GLAD I watched it. We live in Iowa and on August 10th our area was DEVASTATED by a derecho storm. Obviously there was MASSIVE DAMAGE across a good part of the state but our city/area suffered a particularly extensive amount of damage. I even commented to my husband that there hardly any roofs, in the area, that DON'T HAVE TARPS. With so much damage and so many homeowners needing new roofs, siding, tree removal, or what have you. The area has been inundated by contractors coming from other towns and states. We have had a particularly difficult time getting anyone to give us a "proposal" most of them want to see our insurance "papers" or ask if we've received the insurance payment yet. I keep asking them what difference it makes I am just asking for them to inspect the damage, tell us what they believe needs to be done, and submit an "estimate". Well, needless to say you haven't heard back from most of them. It's been so frustrating finding a contractor that has integrity and is someone I feel comfortable hiring. With winter around the corner I am worried we may not get our damage fixed before the snow flies. Very frustsrating.!

      Pretty much every contractor who is working a catastrophic storm area will want, and need to see your insurance paperwork - BUT - they should first prepare their own estimate. Then, after you choose a contractor, you and he can sit down together and compare his estimate with the one from the insurance company. Insurance estimates are almost always too low. Having access to your insurance estimate gives the contractor the ability to know what he will have to ask the insurance company to revise on their document. So remember, if you have contractors asking for your insurance doc, let them all know that you'll give it to the contractor you select, after you select him, but you won't be showing it to him ahead of that.
      There's something else to remember, though. Smart contractors know that most homeowners don't know anything about roofing, therefore, these contractors know that if they're spending the time and money to create an estimate, just to Email it to you, then you don't have a good way to compare them and know which one is the best estimate. So, contractors may be hesitant about creating an estimate for you if you're asking each one to Email the estimates to you so you can compare them against each other. Do your contractors a favor and let each one meet with you and explain his estimate. If you are interviewing a contractor who only wants to Email it to you, cross that one off your list.
      Here are a couple more videos of ours that help explain what I'm talking about.
      "Getting 3 estimates" - ua-cam.com/video/0s-XRZIAlzY/v-deo.html
      "How to get apples-to-apples roofing estimates" - ua-cam.com/video/URWPjmTmnK4/v-deo.html
      Hope this is all helpful information.

    All of your videos are absolutely great! I am going through this process as we speak. Had a contractor come out that was a GAF Master Elite contractor. He just about had me sold until he said one thing. He texted me to say that all the insurance paperwork looked good and he’d be over to sign all his paperwork and collect a check. I asked him how much deposit do you need, he said 100% even our Portion of our deposit and depreciation value, I’m like 😳😳😳. That made me run 🏃‍♂️. There was NO WAY I would do that because I knew I’d be chasing them to get my roof done. Then he texted back and said, we’ll, the least they could take was 50%. I ran until I found another that didn’t require a single penny until job was totally complete and final billing was done with insurance company. Thanks for your awesome videos. I’ve watched many of them.

    I had to file a claim on my insurance company to get a new roof and some interior water damage... The contractors replaced the roof but never did the interior work because the insurance company was delaying on paying the depreciated value of completing the roof so the contractors had me obtained a lawyer to go after the insurance company for the rest of the money we finally came to a settlement $10,000 and the balance due to the contractors is $4,600 the contractor wants me to sign the check over to them and they will cut me a check I don't feel too good about that as you have stated in your video

    • @homesteadroofing
      @homesteadroofing  3 роки тому +3

      I definitely wouldn't recommend doing that. Deposit the money in your bank and only give them the amount you owe them. The fact that they're asking you to sign over a $10,000 check when you only owe them $4600 is a HUGE red flag!

      Best thing would be to ask your friends, neighbors, co-workers, or family if they've had a great experience with a roofing contractor and get their name and contact info.
      I don't recommend you use one of the people who show up uninvited at your door. I also don't necessarily recommend using the roofer your insurance agent recommends. Some times that is a good idea, but some times it's not. More information about that will be coming in a future video.

      @@homesteadroofing so my total for my insurance claim that they gave me was 8,610. To replace the entire roof put up gutters and minor stuff for the porch. Now they ask for 8706.67 . Now that's the whole insurance check plus my $500 deductible. Now I gave them 4353.33. in October. Now mind you I had to get on these people to do my roof and they just did it on the 16th of December. Now he's telling me that I owe a remainder of $7084.67. just for the roof. If you do it the other way around, you just handed them thousands of dollars which they will hang on to for as long as they can.
