I am glad you guys did this movie. One of my favorite mindless fun movies to watch. There are so many gags and random things happening in this movie that you can't even remember some of them after watching it. Just like you guys forgot about Dave Chappelle being here and the entire insulin saga, there was also the cross-dressing criminal, which you didn't bring up, probably cause it was random and extraneous. Also, when I watched the Buscemi scenes, it didn't even occur to me that it might have been about him redeeming himself and going free. I thought because he is a psychopath, he commits crime with absolutely no rhyme or reason, which is why he didn't kill the child in the airfield and let her live just on a whim. Similarly, the ending had a sinister tone: "The good guys won, and the bad guys died, but oh wait, the serial killer is still out in the wild and mingling with innocent people, and people have forgotten about him amidst all the chaos." Frankly, if this movie came out in the 2010s, that could have been a setup for a sequel.
It's so good because it takes itself seriously. There's a good Bryan Cranston quote that says "An actor approaching a comedic scene can't for one second think that it's funny, because it takes the onus off the audience to laugh". If the director or any of the actors for one second go in and treat it like a stupid action film, it would have been forgotten about as a low point in 90's films. Because it takes itself seriously and doesn't treat the comedy moments like comedy moments, it makes it much easier for the audience to get into the film and enjoy it for what it is.
Including Its a Wonderful Life I think is something I will be very thankful of when we get the nect month going. It is a movie I have intended to see for the longest time, but like Thorin is saying in the beginning its one where this podcast's "homework" will definitely be the kick I need/ed to get it done. First genre where I have not seen any of the movies before so that will be interesting.
I would have never chosen to watch this movie on my own... the one-liners were the best part, they were worth suffering through the obnoxious action scenes. I'm more glad I saw Mission Impossible and ESPECIALLY Total Recall - one of the better movies I've seen! I hope some day you get around to my favourite movie - The Game (1997) with Michael Douglas
I can't believe you guys are doing Tokyo Godfathers. I'm a big fan of Satoshi Kon's work and fan of anime in general. Looking forward to this unexpected Christmas gift list of movies to watch with you. 90's Action month was incredible to follow along with 😂
Shame you guys will not be doing "National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation" this month, definitely a certified Christmas classic, but oh well. The four you have picked sound like a great mix, too. Especially "Tokyo Godfathers" ;)
Thorin gets it! Lol movies while high is amazing! I watched last jedi while high seen it before knew it was shite. Got to the red guards scene and wnd bro i was so lovked in literally said out loud this movie is incredible lol 😂
I know most people won't agree with this take but Film Noire was a much better genre and this wasn't a particular enjoyable one for me. Also if I had to rank the movies in this genre it would go 1. Mission Impossible, really solid with a somewhat crap end scene but it still never had me wishing for ut to just end, 2-3. Total Recall / Face/Off, really fun movies but fall off harder in moments and particularly towards the end than MI, 4. Con Air, fun in moments but crap for most of it
Love ya guys but I don't vibe with a lot of your recent takes, like Total recall being a 10/10 movie (it's fun but not great), then Richard saying that Magnolia is an awesome film (I think it's a barely watchable movie), and now Con Air, which again is a barely watchable movie (I had to stop after the landing scene and come back to it later). Also Face/Off is a much better movie than Con Air
@@davidhughes8795 Not arguing that. For me Face/off succeeds at pulling me in for the first 3/4ths of the movie, while Con Air only manages to be fun in bits and pieces, for the most part it's just jarring, it didn't cross the event horizon of so bad it's funny for me
@@aardee175 That's fair enough. I suspect like a lot of people here I saw them both as a kid and thought they were genuinely great films at the time, haha.
Thorin has been putting out bangers of late. Great show as always.
Or as thorin would say, MEGA
This episode was absolutely glorious. Hearing you guys simultaneously gush about this movie and also tear it to shreds was amazing.

Con Air is the perfect guilty pleasure.
Perfect guilty pleasure grab your popcorn and escape movie. But that Bama accent from Cage is beyond ridiculous 😂.
Con Air is pure, unadulterated schlock, the perfect 90's action movie. Also there needs to be a special episode on Heat at some point.
People are missing out, thanks for this show.
Great episode. Had me in stitches throughout. This series has quickly become a favourite!
It's a Bundyful life (part 1 & 2) is the best Christmas special!
Ahh.. a Classic 90s Hollywood fun! Great stuff, gentlemen ;)
Thanks for another banger episode. Cheers.
Straight fire, from beginning to end, all the way through...
And the movie was also good!
Awesome way to start my Sunday. Love the series guys.
My favorite quotes from the movie:
"This body has your name written all over it"
"Next time take the bus"
"Now there's three men I trust"
It's so good because it takes itself seriously. Con air is a classic
So happy I watched along for these last few
Richard just loving it absolutely made this episode
I have loved all 16 of these reviews so far. Maybe someday I will watch some of the films too.
I saw this and absolutely loved it for how purely dumb it was. Great recommendation.

The intro is sick

It's bollocks, but its good bollocks

Face Off and Con Air are both trash. Fun, dumb action films that aren't to be taken seriously.
