    Those Dewalt saws are AWESOME! I use mine for brush trimming, cutting ABS pipe, trimming the exhaust pipe on my recently installed Cummins Onan INVERTER GENERATOR and many other projects around the house.
    Secondary Gate valve is a must. Last time I dumped, I was met with a smelly surprise behind my cap. EEEEWWWWWWWWWWW

    Our fresh tank drain is a little closer to the side of our rig than yours but i ended up cutting off the factory dump valve and plumbed in a 90 and brought it out to the edge of the camper and put a quarter turn shut off valve in the line so that i don't have to crawl back under the camper to open it anymore. i also plan to do the same thing with my hot/cold low point drains later on just to make life a little easier!

    That gate valve is great. We had a site with no dumping. We dont use shower in our unit. And our unit has 2 grey tanks. Galley and shower. So with that valve closed we were able to open both grey tanks. Made it so we only needed a pump out once

    Good video for the beginners. My sewer comes out higher up and I have clear pipe after the gate valve elbowing down vertically and the cap has a small 1” cap also for drainage if you get leakage past the gate valve. That’s when the clear pipe comes in handy. It obviously not used to drain the whole tank, just what’s in the tube past the gate valve.

    Every RV and travel trailer I've ever used had this installed. That was when I was a kid late 80's early 90's and responsible for the sewer when we stopped. I can't believe they're not included anymore. I'll check since I'm in the market. It's going to be a free upgrade from anyone that wants my business.

    I added a few feet of pex to my water tank drain. Routed the drain and ball valve to the curb side so I can easily fill a container with water from the safe side of the trailer. Any time, without hookups while on the road and without going to the road side of the trailer.

    I installed a gate valve in this location after seeing a video on flushing the waste tank with your grey water tanks using this valve. Works great. Also it’s going to be a little more trouble to replace that gate valve now if it ever goes bad. I used safety wire to secure mine. You can’t see it and it keeps the valve locked in place so it doesn’t twist.

  • @joshcaine4

    @bigtruckbigrv We have added a ball valve to ours as well but before the ball valve I also added a 90 and brought it out closer to the side of the trailer. I don't have to crawl underneath the trailer to dump the freshwater tank. We always drain it on the last stretch towards home, no reason to keep dragging it around, water is heavy. BTW the 2 things you can legally dump on the road are potable water and feathers

    The gate valve is a great idea. I would just add that even though they usually work great, it is important to make sure no debris is blocking the valve blade or it won’t fully seat and even though you may think it’s closed that debris will keep it slightly open. Any residual waste in the pipe will still end up at the cap and be waiting to greet you when you take that cap off.

    Adding a ball valve to the overflow tubes will allow you to close them on the road to prevent siphoning. You just have to remember to only have them closed while traveling. They need to be open to use the pump or fill.

    Great info, on my TT the gate valves for both are so close to the end though I don't think adding the extra valve would make much difference. For a relatively cheap stick and tin trailer it also has quarter turn valves already on the low point drains and a big gate valve to dump the fresh water tank, both nice features when draining the system. That said I'm taking it back to the dealer to have it looked at under warranty, when hooked up to city water it will slowly fill the fresh tank. Probably just an issue with the check valve at the pump, but its under warranty so that can be their problem.

    I put a Valterra valve on each of my sewer pipes and they work great, the one negative thing that happened to me was the bracket holding the end of the long pipe broke after driving on a very rough highway. I think the extra weight of the value and the long pipe was too much for the thin strap, I have since beefed up the holder and no problem.

    Man JD this is so right on and I copy all of the item you mention, I do have the twist on kind and when I was at a camp ground I was hooking up the sewer hose at night and I made a big mistake on twisting it off in the middle of dumping, so needless to say it wasn't pretty I was a little taken back so I had to clean up everything I was glad that it was at night so my next door neighbor wouldn't see me. I will be doing this on my next mod as soon as I order these and get them back I will be installing them, another great video. I will be ordering from etrailer I have done a lot of business from them.

    As a new RV'er, I am loving your channel. Love the low point drain ball valves and plan to order them ASAP. Quick question regarding the Valterra upgrade. Does ABS plastic pipe not require a primer before cementing it, as I believe PVC pipe does require a primer. Just curious. Great video!

    • @308scoutrfl
      @308scoutrfl 3 роки тому +1

      No primer needed for ABS

    • @liquidrockaquatics3900
      @liquidrockaquatics3900 3 роки тому +1

      Abs does not require primer, but it should be cleaned with pipe cleaner first (contains MEK) that removes any contamination and starts the softening process. Abs uses a solvent weld which liquifies the pipe and fittings and as the solvent evaporates, it hardens again as one piece. Pvc on the other hand is merely glued, and it requires primer to clean the joint and bond properly. If ABS is not cleaned, it’s not the end of the world, but you run the risk of having voids that form and allow air and water to pass through them

    I already bought the twist on valve and you are right, removing the cap ends up twisting the whole thing off. I am going to try your set screw idea, but they really should design it to connect with an opposite twist from the cap. Would y’all recommend using the ball valves on the low point drains all the way around? Would be awesome to not have to unscrew every year.

    Do you still recommend Sulastic springs, or other suspension upgrades? I just bought a ram 3500 srw, with factory airbags, and it’s really bouncy unladen.

    Hey Jadie, so I know you talked about it before ,but I can't remember what video it was that you talked about the tires on your fifth wheel.
    I have the Goodyear endurance that comes on the new fifth wheels especially on the Jayco. What is the best tire that you have found? is it sailun tires? Or what would you recommend. I'm wanting to get the best tire I can for my RV. Thanks again for all your help and what you do, we look forward to your videos

    I would just run a couple of turns of gorilla tape around the connection. Then you can take it off easily enough.

    So confused. I've owned several travel trailers. Done literally tens of thousands of miles, over a hundred parks. I have *never* encountered a travel trailer or RV *without* a built in gate valve on the gray and black tank outlets. Who makes such a horrible thing?

  • @bsmith993
    @bsmith993 3 роки тому

    EVERY RV should have one of the permanently glued on waste valves at the termination point. NO RV should use the twist on gate valve. I got one from Amazon first and honestly, it isn't IF the valve comes off on you, it is WHEN it comes off on you. The twist on products should be recalled and NEVER recommended as a viable product to anyone. Luckily I never had a big spill because of it, but it barely holds in place. Save yourself some headaches and just get the glued on one!!! And please, for the safety of everyone, you should emphasize how unsafe the twist on ones are and discourage their use.
