Starting off praising it for it's "unique spanish aesthetic" doesn't do it much justice. Even "latino aesthetic" would have felt a bit less unfitting

I really struggle getting into most Metroidvanias but the level design in Guacamelee was so good and the game's world felt big but never confusing to navigate.
I love Guacamelee man. One of my favorite indie games. So underrated though. I just can’t get enough Guacamelee. I replayed Guacamelee 1 a month before the second one came out. And the game is so fucking funny it has a Pac-Man minigame. It disses loot boxes through a minigame and it disses rpg games where you get a ton of useless loot you’ll never use. I just love this game so much. I mean it has references to so many things like Steven universe, metal gear, and even fortnite and pubg.
Guacamole is so good and I'm so mad I ignored it for so long. I didn't realize it had so much of the Celeste/super meat boy type puzzle platforming (and that it's done better and not as frustratingly punishing imo) And I didn't know the metroidvania elements were so fleshed out not the level design so good . From the images on games store page I thought it was just a linear platformer and the rooms looked like there wouldn't be much to do... Boy was I wrong lol

Considering how much UA-cam I watch I couldn't believe I didn't hear about this games development. Saw it on PSN last night browsing my PS4. Just about shit myself when I saw it
Yeah, Mexican art style and music, great power-ups, story, particular humor. This game has everything. Just finished this one, after loving the first I just had too and it was worth every penny! Everybody who likes platforming games should play this! (And also Ori and the blind forest/Will of the Wisps, different style, but same love given by creators, that one is my heart thing!)
I've always found that Guacamelee is oddly difficult to recommend because it's "just" a metroidvania that's very well done and has a highly engaging aesthetic that's super underexplored in the anglosphere. There's no big gimmick to make it sound really appetizing to people who haven't played it yet, and it doesn't make any big innovation, so people just pass it by.
I hate metroidvanias but I really like Guacamelee, so that could be its unique selling point. It's actually full of gameplay, unlike say hollow Knight. And also unlike hollow Knight you never get lost, there isn't really tons of backtracking, the level design is good, etc.
Maybe the main gimmicks of the game are the asethetics, and the world swapping mechanic. Sure the world swapping mechanic isn't unique, but it hasn't been implemented as much as it should. By that I mean just pressing a button and you're in a similar but different location. Many games force you to go to a certain area to swap worlds (the messenger and ocarina of time)
Jon Paul Cuellar The way you described it makes it sound very interesting. I myself just bought it about five minutes ago. Never played the first one but I always wanted to.

Damn, I totally have to get this game, and the first one too. Looks totally amazing, but never really knew about this game except for its name.
Says they dialed down the tired memes, shows footage of an enemy reciting the SotN Dracula monologue...
1:46 I haven't even bought the game yet (but will very soon( and I haven't watched any walkthrough videos but I am the only one thinking that bad guy is like some weird alternate ending of "you" after the final boss fight in the first game who is trying to turn himself back to normal and trying to stop everything in his way A.K.A you, A.K.A himself. It's messed up but when you are talking about multiple timelines and universes it makes me start theorizing.
the biggest reason this is a good game is because of the difference between
"you lost your progress for reasons"
and
"ya got fat"
Can you do a video about Steamworld Dig 1 and 2? It is a waay more underrated Metroidvania than Guacamelee since i don't see anyone talking about it and is so much fun to play
bought this game on recent eshop sale, and i have loved it since. i had to stop because i had to hit the nostalgia factor by playing ff9
Great video!
Even more movements? Fuck, I feel like this will get too complex. My brains can't handle that many combinations xD
