I’m glad that they haven’t given up and that we have this to play. I still haven’t purchased because being a Switch gamer means being busy lol. But I will definitely get it soon!
I have been so pleasantly surprised with this game and it is such a shame that so many won't give it a chance based on their experiences with the previous title. If you loved those classic Donkey Kong Country titles you will LOVE this one.
Since your all about rage games, I thought you'd like to do a good game design episode on a game called "never give up" it has an interesting idea of 1 room that constantly changes and gets harder
If they decide to do a kart racer then I hope they have some indie character guests as well! Would love to see Shovel Knight, Shantae, Sans, and others maybe like the Hollow Knight or even Cuphead, or Steve from Minecraft. But Yooka-Laylee has so many characters too. I hope they design a few more for any future projects they are thinking about doing like how they did with Diddy Kong’s Racing when Banjo and Conker were present.
I hope they eventually tackle a Tooka-Laylee with the added experience they now have, seeing all the feedback from both the first game and the impossible lair, as well as taking cues from Mario Odyssey to craft an exquisite 3D platforming experience

its funny, because when the trailers released, I thought that the game looked like an awful mobile game you had to pay for on a console (for some reason) and now its one of my favorite games of the year, huh
Playtonic Games did an AMAZING job recreating the original experience of Banjo-Kazooie in a modern style with Yooka-Laylee, and the same with Donkey Kong Country in Impossible Lair. Maybe they could try doing the same with Conker's Bad Fur Day. Perhaps "Yooka's Bad Scale Day" or something.
Matt Griffin and Dan Murdoch compositions were amazing. Of course David Wise and Grant Kirkhope were great as well. But man these new composers deserve so much credit. So grateful to now have this soundtrack in my library of game music!
@@VisVulpine Underwater Saunter I was talking about at that point, but I think some other tracks might have surpassed that one for me. It's a really cool soundtrack.
Kirkhope only did the overworld theme. And about half of the pieces were done by Matt Griffin. Wise and Dan Murdoch did about the same amount of pieces though.
Me! However, I'm not sure how gamers would react. Those who prefer 2D tend to like them for being precise, and 3D fans will want Playtonic to make a collectathon that is at least on par with A Hat in Time first.
Having watched Jirard's completion video for this before having seen this video, yeah... he did not sound like he had any fun really with getting the "beat the impossible lair the first time in" tonic, vs the rest of the game.
I still don't get the hate for the original game. Sure it's probably not for everybody, but fans of the original? I loved the game lots. The new game is very good too, different genre of course, but I still think think the original is better and i hate how it's apparently agreed on that that game was a disappointment. It WAS the original platformer I was waiting for.
I still feel like the first Yooka game was too harshly judged but I'm glad they went another way with the sequel, zig when people think you're gonna zag!
I do wish that passing through a checkpoint brought Laylee back. I mean dying makes you respawn with Laylee, and some times I would just kill myself to get Laylee back
I honestly think I like the overworld more than the legit levels. Not saying the levels are less than incredible, but I'm enjoying unlocking the map thru little puzzles
You beat the impossible lair? But it's impossible! The next yooka laylee will take inspiration from battle toads. First it was rareware's last big hurrah, now we get the game that brought them to the party (donkey kong country), so next we'll roll back further in time as we see a game that first really got people talking (battle toads). Then after that.... wasn't there a rocketship game they did? Anyways, if the first was called Yooka-Laylee (a wink at banjo), then this one should of been called Yooka Kong Country. Then Yooka Toads.
Man, the game looks really creative and cool. But it also appears to be one of these games where objects and enemies blend into the complex-looking environment, which is a bummer.
You should do a review on zack and wiki quest for barbaros treasure (for Nintendo wii developed by capcom) you use wiki to change enemies into items and use them to your advantage also there are many different themes like jungle lava spooky mansion etc there are also a lot of colectibles 500+ so yeah an underrated game but truly a classic
How come I don’t like platformers? I dunno, to be honest. I grew up with Mario 64 and OoT, and I never got a taste of 2D platforming until I was like 10 with Mario Bros Wii. I kinda sucked at it. While I’m much better now, I can’t normally play anything in the style of DKC without either dying every 2 minutes or getting bored. But this looks creative enough to break that barrier for me.
I was debating whether to buy this game or DKC: TF (I will likely end up having both at some point but as of now my wallet ain't about that luxury). I think I'm gonna go with this one now, tbh. I'm a sucker for good hubworlds and it's also cheaper so that's even better!
I was massively disappointed with Tropical Freeze. It feels like complete trash compared to Yooka Laylee. I can't even begin to get myself to finish that DK game whereas I couldn't drop YL until I 100%ed it.
@@raisie6334 TF is the better game IMO. It has the more consistent level design. But the higher highs in yooka might actually surpass the highs of DKC TF. It still doesnt beat DKC returns worlds 5-9 though, that is the best srrand of levels ive ever seen in a platformer.
Snowman I think you should make a video about how nostalgia affects ones enjoyment and how that can give old games from childhoods can have a certain advantage.
As a backer, personally I found the game itself to be solid, but the dialouge and a lack of quality-of-life features (skippable text, music sliders, etc) on initial release brought it down. I think the issue is that most people are going off reviews (review copies had some major bugs) or the initial release, which had a lot of bugs in the first few days. I waited a week and most of the bugs had been fixed. The game now is definitely good, but at launch could've used a bit more playtesting.
Thanks, but I prefer 2D platforming like Rayman Origins/Legends more so than DK style. It still looks interesting though, might buy depending on the price
There’s too many good games coming out. I already preordered Luigi’s Mansion 3 now this is out? Bro I don’t have unlimited money I really want to play this game

I had no interest in a 2d Yooka Laylee from the moment it was announced. I was so closed off to the idea that I never watched anything related to it. But I trust Snoman’s opinion on games, so I checked out this video. Now I’m super hyped to play the game!
Backup plan? Missed opportunity to say Plan Bee! Haha, love the video though
its funny, because when the trailers released, I thought that the game looked like an awful mobile game you had to pay for on a console (for some reason) and now its one of my favorite games of the year, huh
My favourite track in the game wasn't actually by Dave Wise or Grant Kirkhope. Never thought I would say that.
@@skippertheeyechild6621 may I ask what was your favourite track in the game? Mine was Turbine Trouble by Dan Murdoch
@@VisVulpine Underwater Saunter I was talking about at that point, but I think some other tracks might have surpassed that one for me. It's a really cool soundtrack.
Saw The Completionist video before this and your call out to him made me straight LOLS.
Kirkhope only did the overworld theme. And about half of the pieces were done by Matt Griffin. Wise and Dan Murdoch did about the same amount of pieces though.
I'm quite happy this game exists. Big fan of the genre.
Does anyone else wanna see these guys try making a 3D DKC style game, like that Banjo-Kazooie prototype?
Me! However, I'm not sure how gamers would react. Those who prefer 2D tend to like them for being precise, and 3D fans will want Playtonic to make a collectathon that is at least on par with A Hat in Time first.
1:16 You should've said, "Right from the Gecko"
Top 10 comebacks no one expected
Having watched Jirard's completion video for this before having seen this video, yeah... he did not sound like he had any fun really with getting the "beat the impossible lair the first time in" tonic, vs the rest of the game.
Great to see Rare has gotten back on track! I'll definitely bee picking this up when I have a chance to.
Great video! The amount of puns was unbeelievable though
6:22 well… he wasn’t wrong
“I hope I’m safe from my phobia of large books”
*push*
I still feel like the first Yooka game was too harshly judged but I'm glad they went another way with the sequel, zig when people think you're gonna zag!
1:17 "right from the gecko"
I think I got interested in the game. I will give it a try.
Maybe they’ll make a modernized version of Diddy Kong Racing in the future
From the game play I've seen, it looks like they're going for rare version of cuphead.
You need to play Zelda 2
n o
What is this, a cult?
I think this game might be better than DKC3... I’ll need some more time to think about it.
The real question is : is it better than DKC2? ;P
@@Mewseeker It is impossible to top perfection.
The game is fun, the music is great, it is pretty, and the tonics are cool. The Impossible Lair though is a real hassle even with the beettallion.
With the way the game's laid out it'd be interesting to see the speedruns; running through the Impossible Lair without getting hit.
You actually sold me on this. And normally I can’t stand 2D platformers.
How come?
How come I don’t like platformers? I dunno, to be honest. I grew up with Mario 64 and OoT, and I never got a taste of 2D platforming until I was like 10 with Mario Bros Wii. I kinda sucked at it. While I’m much better now, I can’t normally play anything in the style of DKC without either dying every 2 minutes or getting bored. But this looks creative enough to break that barrier for me.
I hope PlayTonic makes first person shooter, kart racers, and other fun characters just like they did with Rare
I enjoyed TF even though the game isn't nearly as good as some people want it to be. I think YL is actually the better game :)
@@raisie6334 TF is the better game IMO. It has the more consistent level design. But the higher highs in yooka might actually surpass the highs of DKC TF. It still doesnt beat DKC returns worlds 5-9 though, that is the best srrand of levels ive ever seen in a platformer.
@@pelucheCR7 I agree with you on Returns. It has some of the best platform levels ever.
I recently got the original on the switch. I like the game and the self aware writing is funny af. I never got the hate for it
I'm sad Playtonic isn't getting their due for this fantastic game. It's the follow up to DKC I've wanted since I was kid, sorry Retro studios...
wtf i check youtube and find ur video, uploaded less than a minute ago. Nice, thanks man! Like bofore watching
Snowman I think you should make a video about how nostalgia affects ones enjoyment and how that can give old games from childhoods can have a certain advantage.
Huge shout out to whoever made the snake character and called it Trowzer 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ah yes, my favorite platformer duo: *Whip and Nae-nae*
This game is great its even better than donkey Kong country topical freeze.
Great video as always my man
I got this game for Christmas, it's hella fun!
snoman needs to play..... easy games with zero challenge WAH
Rareware is back!
The quills multipliers is very reminiscent of halo skulls
"After an underwhelming predecessor, Yooka Laylee" me:i 100% disagree (i respect your opinion though)
Same, as much as he gushes about this game, I found the original YL to be of about the same fun factor.
@@maromania7 People need to check out MauLer's critique on it. He goes in deep. ua-cam.com/video/5W6joFepTZA/v-deo.html
I want to see an any% speedrun of this
Thanks, but I prefer 2D platforming like Rayman Origins/Legends more so than DK style. It still looks interesting though, might buy depending on the price
I played the demo it was amazing like you said it's a must-have
There’s too many good games coming out. I already preordered Luigi’s Mansion 3 now this is out? Bro I don’t have unlimited money I really want to play this game
Cancel this luigis mansion crap and buy this instead!
Felix S. I do have some spare cash so maybe I can play this. I just have so many other games I’m playing rn. Like Persona 5 which is rlly long
It would’ve been funny if after Comcept released the polarizing Mighty No.9 that they tried to redeem themselves in a similar way to how Playtonic did with this game by releasing Red-Ash: The Indelible Legend to critical acclaim
Not everybody has balls of steel :-)
