I have wanting this feature added to Affinity. I have done this for years in Microsoft Word with Styleref Fields. Now I can import those Word documents (I have hundreds of them) into Publisher.
love it! Unfortunately when selecting 'last on page' it comes up with nothing when there is none on the page instead of running the header. This is problematic when using left/right layouts for bracketing and entries are often longer than a page -- which is the basic point of a running header. Admittedly this was specifically noted when using 'edit' to override the field (for an entire section) but it works for continuing to run the 'first on page' even when it was some pages earlier. Only the 'last on page' experiences the problem
Hi Timothy Doty, Thank you for your comment. When setting a running header field to 'Last on Page' it should pick up the last reference of that text style specifically used on that page (as shown in the video above). For that instance to then run onto the next (or following) page you'll need to assign the 'First on Page' reference again to that (the next) page in the sequence. It may seem slightly counter intuitive thinking about it retrospectively, but it should work as intended and does follow along with how other software - Microsoft Word and Indesign also use running headers. We've have query logged against it, so we may see some improvement on that feature, but for the minute it should be working as intended.
Hi LightShadow, Thank you for your comment, I'm sorry to hear your experiencing issues. Can I double check that the fields been inserted into a text frame and not an artistic text box? Even if that is the case it shouldn't cause the app to crash. The best advice I can give is to head over to the Affinity Forum and put the issue on the message board. Then we can then take a closer look at what's going on and potentially have a look at the file in question.
Nice! Very useful update. Thank you Affinity!👍
Great long awaited feature !!!
This was very helpful!
Muy util, ¡muchas gracias!
Thank you

confirmed it isn't a problem with being overridden, its just 'last on page' doesn't work as a running header 🥲

Once I insert a running header inside the text frame - the software crashes.

@@benjaminviney Yes - it was indeed inserted into a text frame. I will ask in the forums. Thanks !
Got the same issue
Too complicated for such a simple task. Plus it's a pity AP can't simply transform all headings to sections automatically.
wow! Very useful update. Thank you Affinity!👍
