  • Someone asked me how to make dot grid pages in Affinity Publisher so they could make low content journals for Amazon KDP. There are a few ways, and I discuss them all here.

This is edu-tainment! Educational as it relates to how to use Affinity Publisher (new to the tool), but also so freaking engaging and entertaining because your energy is infectious! Thanks so much, sir!

Thank you very much for the tutorial. My feedback is that when I'm trying to follow along in Affinity Publisher, it's difficult when the video keeps switching back to your face. If it's left on Affinity Publisher we have more time to see what you are referring to, and can pause it without having to rewind as much. A software like Loom would help with your face as a mini circle overlayed. Or just keeping it on the screen. Thanks again!

In Designer, you can create a motif as a "Symbol" and use `command + J` to fill the page.
That way you can modify only the motif (just like your last example with the star) and the Symbol will update in real time all across the page

Your last method is similar to what I would use to align a shape to a grid though one of your snap settings was not turned on for the perfect alignment. If you turn on "Include bounding box mid points", this will allow you to center the ellipse center point to the gridlines. Then CTRL+Shift and drag to the next gridline and CTRL+J to copy all the way across. With the first row complete, repeat the process vertically.

"Include bounding box mid points". This must be why I had perfect grid alignment. I checked my settings and this was enabled.

#3 is definitely the best technique for me! Perfect one-time alignment on my 0.25 grid. I'm glad I learned the other 2 techniques though. Never know when they may be needed. Thanks so much for sharing! 🌞

Great info, it just comes at you sooo fast! Slower, step by step would be more helpful for the beginner user, who is probably is looking at your tutorial. Is there a written version somewhere I could reference? :)

You know you can hit the gear wheel at the bottom of the video window and adjust the speed up or down. I adjusted down right off. 😄 Then I adjusted back to normal.

The importance of using the right color space for your document's images. I just got got a file bounced back at me by the printer. Unlike the company I worked with last year, these guys require CMYK images. I am now making sure that I exported correctly from RAW photo files via Affinity Photo.

can you make rounded corners on the text boxes? i know you can do the circle shape tool. but can you just have a box rounded corners on a square box?
