Horses most critical need is for a herd. As prey animals they really do require at least one companion just to be able to sleep deeply for an hour or so per day. Safety and friendships in numbers just like herds of deer, elk, cattle or buffalo. When your horse leaves the herd to be with you...that is hugely lovely. ❤
It’s probably the biggest compliment a horse can give a person, to choose them over their buddies and pasture. It wasn’t always this way though, so when I see how willing he is to spend time with me instead of the other horses my heart melts every time 🥹♥️

Well actually, yes you can. Ride your good mare (who will go anywhere I send her) through a camouflaged electric fence. I didn't see it. When she ran into it, she went down on her knees. He’s on rationed hay and exercise because he gained weight to quickly during the spring when we got a ton of rain. The grass became too sweet and he packed on the pounds which can increase risk of health problems.

I think many animals can "sense" whether a human likes them or not or is a threat. They are much smarter than we give them credit for. I know my greyhound will not go near some strangers, yet walk up to others. Why? They must know something we don't ?
Why does Rudnick need to be separated from the other horses part of the time? You said it's for his own good, but I'm clueless as to why. Does he have some sort of medical condition? If any of you guys know, I'd really appreciate some info. Have a lovely weekend!

He was in a dry pen for a few weeks with controlled portions until his weight came down to a safer level. He’s now back out full time with his herd!
Laminitis is an inflammation in their hooves that can cause them to go lame. It can be a result of horses gaining too much weight too fast - once they get laminitis they’re at risk for founder and founder is irreversible and the horses usually won’t survive once they have it. So taking him off pasture temporarily while he looses weight is the best way to reduce those chances
I do have some previous videos explaining why he’s been in the diet pen lately, but long story short he gained about 150 pounds very quickly over the spring due to all the rain we had. It caused the grass to become very long and sweet very quickly so he just packed the pound within a few weeks. So we’ve just been working to bring his weight down to a healthier level before he can be out on the pasture full-time again
