Mate great result. Well if my issue on mine is the same, that explains why me building a composite mod resulted in the same result. Black screen with sound. Off the back of your troubleshooting, I'm going to first try re-flowing my pal encoder, and if that doesn't work, I'll build an RGB mod, using the link you've given. Great work mate. I have so much nostalgia toward this machine, being the first machine we ever owned as a family. So very keen to get this one working now lol.

Good luck getting it going. Even if you don't have a scope, with a multimeter you should see about 2.5v on pin 5 of the pal encoder. Regardless though I can't recommend the rgb mod enough. The sharpness and clarity of the image is fantastic.

The basketball game is definitely gonna have to feature in the next games night for sure!

Had one of those as a kid. Loads of fun. Glad you could save its life.

I've just found your channel and I really enjoyed this series. The VideoPac is a great console. You know, you have all you need to test the keyboard? You can type on it while playing "Freedom fighters" and the question marks on the bottom of the screen will be replaced with what you've entered (a little primitive high score system). Keep the videos coming ;)

Nice to see this puppy alive again (I'm talking about the computer, not you :)). Though, it's still not a piece of hardware that attracts me, for some reason :)

Thanks, it's nice to get it up and running.
These old machines aren't everyone's cup of tea but they can be fun, that basketball game while basic is great fun with 2 players.

This reminds me of the Interton VC 4000 I had played back when I lived in Germany in 1980.

Seems Philips sold this machine through Europe under many different names.

Great video! I had a G7400 back in the day and loved Freedom Fighters! What you missed (I think) is that you need to free the "prisoners" in the purple "windows"/jails. Just fly into them. The other stars and dots you need to avoid of course. Thanks for the video! Happy gaming!

Thanks, I don't have the boxes or manuals for any of the games but that's good to know. I had a bit of a session playing Freedom Fighters on Saturday night, its a basic game but very addictive!

Nice to get that going, we had a G7000 back when they were new - from Santa to all the boys (big joint present with all my brothers) - played many many many hours on it. Oddly, ours had black controllers, not the silver ones that yours have.
We all loved Satellite Attack (Videopac 34), a sort of asteroids type game, and of course there is Munchkin (38 I think) which was a pacman-esque affair. It went pair shaped (we wore out the joysticks) and got a C64.

The version of this system with the black controllers has then hard wired. The silver controllers are plugged in with a 9 pin atari like din, all be it not pin compatible.
I think mine is an earlier model then the black controller version came later.

Mine came with plug in black controllers, then one had to be replaced under warranty and it came back silver.

I work as an electrician and a few months ago when I was doing some work in a house I told the customer I was interested in Commodore 64s and Amigas. He then told me he had a C64 in his attic. I told him I was interested in buying it from him. It was a nice breadbin and it had a fault he told me. so I bought it for cheap. He also had a Videopac in it's original box. I did not buy that one because I had never heard about it and are mostly interested in Commodore machines. Anyway, I have since fixed the C64. It had a faulty RAM chip. Very interesting to watch your videos about the videopac. I still don't think I will contact that guy to buy the Videopac as I'm very much centered on Amigas and C64s.

I've repaired a few Commodore 64's myself, lovely machines to work on.
The G7000 isn't anywhere near as powerful but still an interesting machine for the collection.

@@CRG I do know you have repaired some C64s as I do watch your videos ;) Especially when you do Commodore stuff, I will be all over your videos :P I am interested in watching other retro computer stuff aswell ;)

After trying to reflow my PAL encoder chip and related parts with no result, looks like I'm going to also go with building the RGB mod. Wish me luck lol.

Good luck. The pal encoder seems to be a weak point on these machines.

Could you tell me what the two transistors you replaced are? I can't find them, tried Googling the numbers on the original one's. Thanks

you should get K.C MUNCKIN to that philips videopac, because it's one of best PACMAN clones own twist and overall whole system best game too.

Hard to get hold of after they lost the court case.
