EATING TRADITIONAL SARAWAK FOOD - Kuching
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 сер 2018
- It was about time that we tried traditional Sarawak food here in Kuching.
When we arrived, we were pretty overwhelmed with the variety of food but our lovely waiter Fredrick helped us pick out the best dishes to try
These include
Fiona Fish
Tuak AKA "Jungle Juice"
Bamboo Chicken
Kayan mixed Vegetables
Brown Rice
And some we don't remember...
Fantastic food and even better atmosphere.

Lepau means rice wrap in a leave. Traditionally, it is served cold but for some people would be misunderstood or dislike why it is served cold.
Back in kampung, when the rice already cook(Still hot), it is wrap inside a leaf and to be bring along for those farmers or hunters as food supply. Whenever they wanna eat, the rice is already cold. This is the concept which Lepau restaurant been using. Plus, Lepau is very usefull to them as it is act as their plate as well.. So, no need to use or bring plates or bowl to eat. ☺
#leaf
Hahahah. We had friends from UK here last year, they tried tuak, and said, after their first sip “oh, this is nice, and easy” and they ended up ordering like 5 bottles in total. And fyi, you’ll started getting drunk from tuak wayyy later after your first drinks. And let me just say, it wasn’t good for them that night 🤣 we had to put them on the hotel’s luggage carrier to send them up to their room. It was hilarious. But we did have fun tho! Enjoy your next adventure!

Cheers for Micha & Justina and Cheers for traditional hornbill land cooking. Tried the sour soup before, only in Sarawak, no other places. Saw the umai from the menu, thought would try crispy sago worn. Amazing video and thumb up. Sure like
One of my favorite aspects of following your adventures is that (in my view) you ladies are doing it right. Your willingness to try local cuisine and take in the culture is a big part of that. I would raise a class of tuak to you but all I have is coffee. Nevertheless... Cheers!
You guys make me feel like home..by watching all the delicacies and that tuak make me wanna to go home right away.

Justina looked a wee bit more bright-eyed and bushy-tailed than usual at the end there. The tuak did it's job I reckon! Nice one!
Hey guys been watching ur videos lately and loving it! I live at Kuching and I really recommend u guys Song Kheng Hai Hawker Centre. You should try their tomato crispy mee, gong pia and pandan coconut drink! Trust me, you’ll love it ✨ anyways keep up with the videos ✌🏻
I make tuak at home and, taste wise it depends on many factors. every batch will taste different. Alcohol content will differ from batch ranging from 5 upward
im going back sarawak my homeland soon..cant wait to eat all this food! haha
Ohhh yesss !!! 🙋🏼♀️👀
Both of u should try 'Langkau' . Homemade wine originally from Sarawak.
Local native eggplant which tastes
very sour but nice when make into seafood soup.
I've been there before. It is so delicious! But not as delicious as my mom's tempoyak and bamboo chicken.😉
Also, my mom usually fries the sagu worms with sweet ketchup, removing its head and all. I don't like eating it raw. It taste like fried chicken. Sigh...miss her cooking. She rarely cooks nowadays. All I eat is food from the school cafeteria and vegetables.still, even the food from the school is delicious. The nasi lemaks...lemang...butter chicken...
I've tried the worm cooked or goreng, it tasted amazing!
Ohhh really ?? We are too scared to try it 🙊
Funny to see justina getting a little tipsy and tries to control it. Haha
You would like to try Rumah Asap as well
you should have try "tuak masam" (sour tuak)..i bet it's funny watching you drink it..lol
you guys definitely need to visit Mulu Cave in Sarawak!

Nice trip girls. Waiting for your video in Bintulu then. Miri is next right? Be safe and have a nice trip girls. #cheerstofreedom
Hi girls! The tuak or rice wine has about 12% level of alcohol... The strong one is known as "langkau". The rice wine of nowadays comes in various flavours - pineapple, banana... you name it. It depends on the maker's creativity. It's more like a dessert wine... sherry... Sarawak indigenous food are pretty much like what you are having. But most of all... I'm damn jealous!!!
di entika that I setuju haaa langkau the best and better than tuak,I think indu ribai can be joget or luput under table haaa
For those who wants to know about tuak and its alcohol content... can check with a tuak expert we learned how to make it from. He did a test on the alcohol content and it is usually at a minimum or 12%. *Edited: ABOUT 12%.
