Thank you for sharing this video. The polymer material scared me in terms of health and my soul told me to stop working because it was affecting the smells during baking. I was seriously thinking about working on ceramic earrings. Thank you very much again.
Beautiful! I am new to ceramics and would love to learn how to make jewelry from start to finish. I have no knowledge on the types of clay to use, glazing processes and kilns. And, how are the designs painted on and what type of paint is used? I started using polymer clay and I hate it! I make hand painted wood earrings. Thank you very much!
@@FionaCArt well painting wood and doing decoupage is more difficult than one thinks! As far as ceramics, they are just more beautiful and have the glowing shine that many polymer clay artists try to duplicate with little success. I can tell the difference!
So the wire that attaches to the jewelry itself is this: amzn.to/3Qr5dzZ And the wire that you use to hang it from the chuck is this: amzn.to/3QnfcGQ Happy firing! :)
@@FionaCArt thanks. I was seeing the temperature of the wire and that wire can’t be at cone 6 right? Just verifying with you. Cause I’m working righty now with cone 6 temperature 1200*C / 2200 F aprox.
Hello. Your ceramics is very beautiful. I was wondering how your earrings lay on a kiln? Because in mugs we should leave bottom of the mug without glaze, but earrings are with glaze in both sides. So how I should put them in kiln? :) Thank you
Hi Vita :) thank you for the kind words and for watching! Good observation about the double sided! We use what my mum calls a “chuck”, which she made herself. It’s basically a form where you can hang the earrings off of it using high fire wire. We also use it to fire our ornaments for the holidays and such so they don’t touch the kiln. Hope that helps :)
May I ask, which kind of wire are you using to the jewelry? I asked in a ceramic shop where I live and she said some would drill a hole and glue it on. But I really like you are just putting it in the clay and then into the kiln?
Thanks for sharing this video! Are you using any underglaze on these earrings? And did you make the bisque-thingy to hang the earrings on for the glaze firing? that's great! Haven't seen that before... :)
Thanks for watching :) My mother made the chuck that we hang the jewelry from :) I use underglaze for the earrings then designer liner to do my mark making
I want to make some beads, what might be too small? Should I put holes in before firing? I'm not sure if I want a glaze on them but wonder if there is a mat glaze to protect them?
You will definitely want to put holes in before firing. In regards to the glaze, the clear glaze I use to protect them is gloss. This looks like a matte one (I’ve never tried it myself tho so purchase at own risk lol): amzn.to/46lM4av
hello! I greet you from Mexico, I just discovered your account and I am mesmerized watching how you create your beautiful pieces, wow congratulations! One question, what is the name of the metal that you put on the pendant? And how many times did you put the pieces in the fire? THANK YOU
Thank you, Adriana :) For the metal I use this high fire wire: amzn.to/3U0KyUZ And I fire everything twice: a bisque fire and a glaze fire 🔥 Hope this helps! 💕
It’s a good question. I mean - nobody has told me any of the earrings have come apart yet so I suppose that’s a good sign they have take some tension :) If you mean the wire that goes into the clay - you can do whatever you want. I usually make the earrings a bit thicker and put the clay in deeper nowadays so it’s flatter
@@FionaCArt thanks for responding so fast I’m asking for some ideas I have 👁️ I guess people also use nichrome wire for keychains so it should be pretty solid
My mum tends to throw her bowls flat without a foot so if I were to glaze it then it would stick to the kiln. We use clay that is either cone 6 or cone 10 depending on the brand. Thanks for watching :)
what wire are you using? I have nichrome wire which can be used in a kiln (to my knowledge!) Also, have you ever tried to make ceramic rings using wrapped wire? I am trying to figure it out and need help troubleshooting :)
@lisamarieroserobin ahhhh sorry 😬 maybe there’s a local arts council in your area with kiln access?? Sometimes they let you buy firing cards! Regardless thank you for the kind words and for watching ❤️ Wish you lots of luck on your ceramic jewelry journey!!
With the clay we are using it needs a kiln. But I know people make earrings with polymer clay and use an oven I believe. I don’t have any personal experience with it though.
Thank you for being here and being FIRST!! ❤️ Clay is a fickle medium for sure lol Yeah, the earrings sold out fast! I was super surprised! There’ll be more for a Mother’s Day shop so stay tuned around then - either on instagram, Facebook or newsletter. UA-cam always comes later due to editing. 💗
Great idea with the earrings and other painted ceramics. I think a lighter heart earring would work better against your dark hair. Light orange might really pop!
that was amazing! I always wanted to make jewelry from ceramic but I don't know what type of hook wire to use. are you using stainless wire? or what type of wire are you recommend so it doing fine with the bisque and high firing?
Im just starting out with ceramic jewellery after 20 yrs making sterling silver jewellery. What are the metal wire pieces that you insert into the clay before firing. Where do you buy them from? Thanks,Bev.Jordan New Zealand
Hi Bev! Thanks for watching :) That's amazing you are giving ceramic jewelry a shot after so many years with sterling. I used the following high temp wire so it would survive the kiln: amzn.to/3IsHThh As a heads up, it does change to a dark color after the firing.
For this it was porcelain, but I'm sure you could make earrings with other clays as well. I just wanted my designs to pop off the white of the porcelain :)
Very pretty but they look a bit heavy. Do they pull as my pierced ears opening is looking like a long slit now from wearing heavy earrings. You are a beautiful model. ❤
So far I haven’t had any complaints about the weight of my earrings, but it is definitely something to watch for when creating ceramic ones! Thank you for the kind words and for watching :)
You have such a cute style. I love that you collaborate with your mom.
Thank you so much for the kind words ☺️❤️
Can you please tell me what type of wire you used that doesn't melt inside the klin?

How do the earring pieces get fired? Are they hanging from a stand in the kiln or laid flat?
Yes we hang them from a stand (we made it ourselves). You can lay them flat but you’d have to be careful to only glaze one side.
Hello! Thanks so much for your tutorial. Are you able to make a bale/loop on ceramic pendants? Or would it fall apart?

Mam can it be crake? And it should bake or air dry?
We used porcelain and a kiln, so baking and air drying won’t work.
@FionaCArt can I give it steam heat on kitchen stove by putting a pot on stove and cover it bcoz I don't have kiln
@sumaira199 I’ve never tried that so I’m not sure. Maybe try polymer clay if you want to fire in an oven.

No. We were using porcelain. We have a kiln at home though.

Sure! We use amaco, mayco or coyote underglazes for the background colors. Then the black on top is mayco designer liner: amzn.to/3xWWSLC
