1971 Go Devil Mini Bike Revival | The Premium Mini Bike Killed by the Honda Trail Bike

- We bought a Sensation Mfg co Go Devil Model 104 mini bike! Made in the late 60s and early 70s, these Tecumseh HS40 powered mini bikes were great around town, college campus, and campsite cruisers. This Go Devil Model 104 was a high trim model as well compared to other mini bikes of the era, featuring full suspension, a headlight and taillight, chrome spoked wheels, and other high end features. These old mini bikes phased out quickly when the Honda Trail series arrived in the late 60s. Vintage mini bikes like this are a ton of fun to work with now because they're simple, easy to work on, and still provide enough power and comfort to be used as short distance transportation around a racetrack or camp site.

It's the summer of '71. You're at the beach, riding your Go Devil Model 104 with your radio strapped to the back blasting Led Zeppelin's latest hit, Immigrant Song. Life is good. Till your HS40 carburetor starts acting up again.
and my damn hose clamp fell off EDIT: love ya guys been watchin for years :) any time I see a vid I click it.
@@fadedlight8596 lets hope they reply, i love these guys, clicked instantly
This bike reminds me of the Rupp roadster I had as a kid. It had smaller wheels and the tank was chrome.
Sweet save guys. Instead of putting new parts on maybe try to source some old good condition parts and keep it original.

One of the best mini bike exhaust notes! Keep doing what you do‼
Fer sure sounded meaner than the junk yard dog!
That is a great barn find! I remember when these were the hot ticket in the 60s and early 70s. One of the others was the Tote-Goat for the outdoorsman.
Interesting seeing you guys zip around at the JYD Ranch. Lots of recognizable projects around! 👌
I was thinking the same as you I saw the limo
Same I do know the area :) Kool
Yes the magnet on the flywheel and the pickup on the Magneto needs to be cleaned for good spark
It sounds lovely with that strait pipe 🤩
i literally saw one sell yesterday on mecum brand new for $2k
Cool little bike. It looks a lot like a Rupp, especially the tank.
Extended Universe Crossover! YESSSSSSSS!!!!!
You can tell it's Kevin's shop - there's a bottle of D-Germ on the table 😂
Looks like a great runner, and that full suspension 🤌🤌
This is my favorite mini bike that you have worked on, because it looks like a mini-trail. Love the old engine, large dia tires, front/rear shocks, and monkey style handle bars. Great barn find, and looking forward to more content on this mini bike. And welcome to my home state: IOWA
What a killer bike. Tahnks to Grandpa that kept it running all those years. One of the easiest "get er runnin' " vids ever. :-)
Would like an update when new parts come in... oil change n stuff for filler maybe? And give the old gal a bath please. Very nice vintage piece of history there.
Love seeing the old school O.G. style build/revival in a garage projects like this.
Use the kickstand to get the rear wheel off of the ground. Pull start, swing a leg over, pray, give MUCH throttle and lean back down. I should add: Pray you live lol. Great vid Guys. Thanks for the years of entertainment. Merry Christmas and God bless.
I had the same mini bike when I was 9 years old in the mid seventies…. My dad payed 40 dollars for it used. I rode the wheels off it till the motor died, then my dad stole the motor off the garden tiller and I was back in action ! With a 5 Hp Briggs !! I loved that mini bike
I can see why grandpa had it for so long and that's awesome you guys made it run again. Pretty sure the family is stoked about it 🤙
Yep. Blow it apart, clean it thoroughly, put it back together with a torque converter and carb and repair the tail light. Great little bike! Merry Christmas!
You brought back memorys == 70 yr old Vet. smiling like a kid at X-mas LOL
Awesome 👍
Best spark is one you can hear! And you can hear that one!
Man this really reminds me of the rupp minibike i had as a kid. It was a rupp roadster 2. Had a 3 1/2 hp motor and a buddy of mine at the time would ride it together like dumb and dumber!! Miss that bike!
Wish Kevin and Mook a Merry Christmas for us!
That Sickle bar mower very possibly could be a wizard or dixey brand I had one myself it looks identical very good for cutting down stuff close to an inch in size
You may be right. There were a couple of others making sickle bar mowers like this one too. But it does look more like a Dixey, the Wizard were a narrower track on the wheels as I remember. I didn't see the wheel drive system that the Wizard used.
In 1973 a friend of mine had that same mini bike, and we rode together out on the country roads every weekend and all summer long. The Go Devil was fast, and quick off the line. My mini bike was a chopper style had the same Tecumseh engine as the Go Devil, but had a centrifugal clutch. My mini bike however had the optional kick starter which replaced the pull start. This was apparently a factory option, and it worked great. I always was envious of the torque converter and jack shaft on his Go Devil. You have a great piece of history and a great performing mini bike there and in my opinion, one of the best designed mini bikes ever... a real score.. Joe
Back when I was little, around the early 2000’s, my grandpa bought a small mini bike frame. It had the wheels, brakes, seat, it was only missing the motor. My grandpa got a small 80cc motor and had a custom jackshaft made for it, and turned it into a direct drive bike. Gear ratio was 12:1, it was relatively easy to push start, had a top speed of about 20 mph and it was super fun.
Once had a RUPP was just like that. Had a Tecumseh on it. I think l gave an album for it.
I absolutely love the look of the spoked 10/12in pit bike tires!
That’s a hell of a find guys and that thing looks and sounds great. Great work great video. Can’t wait to see it completed.👍🏼🤩❤️
💯 This is my favorite mini bike you guys have found so far. It seems surprisingly quick compared to some of the other Tecumsehes
A tip: If you want to take off surface rust on chrome, use 0000 Steel Wool and WD-40 to polish it away. Using 0000 steel wool and rubbing alcohol works to take away surface scratches (not gouges) in plastic and metal.
It's really cool watching something that old bring joy to people again!
I think that bike is a sweetheart, definitely a restoration project...I would flip the front fender around if possible also
In1971,you at the beach summer ans stuffnhaving fun ❤
love old mini bikes. my first was a 1974 Harley X90. loved it. this one reminds me so much of it.
Another great find..LOVE IT
This should be excellent...
Mini-bikes are always a blast to ride.
Wow what an amazing find! And it runs with only a small about of work! Can’t wait to see it in upcoming videos! Just awesome. 👍
It's amazing how much that bike has in common with the 1970 Rupp Roadster. Frame and forks look identical with the exception of the gusset at the fork neck. Swing arm is a bit different as well.
I always thought Rupp was the top of the line. In it's day I think this one is a little better bike.
Copy cats I had a rupp scrambler must have used the same parts because they are identical
That drive setup is so much nicer than a glowing red hot centrifugal clutch when riding on lawn!
And that exhaust sounds great!
Man you guys can make almost anything run. Good work guys.
Awesome looking bike 🤘 you guys are awesome
I love that it has a variable speed clutch instead of just a centrifugal clutch.
That is so awesome! I love to see those old style mini bikes just fire right up...They really made stuff to last back then..
I don’t know if it’s to late or not. But about that barn find mini bike . A little ingenuity. You could almost make a hand clutch like the old Harley with a handle. A modified throw out bearing possibly. Just a thought. Like the channel.👍
these old 60s/70s trail bike builds never disappoint
This place reminds a bit of your parents place John. I love the mowed nice free ride area. I think you guys should pick an area like this at your place to keep mowed. I also like the wide spaced trees. Makes me want to go back and watch some old videos of yours!
That bike deserves a nice restoration. 👍
This one legit made me smile, thank you guys. Just an awesome find!
Can’t wait to see it with a new torque converter! It looks very similar to the 74 Rupp I just picked up. It was in an old collapsed shed for 40 years under the one part of the tin roof that was still good.
Awesome little bike. I would love to find some of the deals you guys stumble across.
There is no stumbling it’s hunting and keeping eyes and ears open they are out there. I found a few myself.
That Jari sickle bar mower is awesome. I fixed one up a couple years ago and used it one time. You're right, they're scary. From a time when men were men and tools didn't have much for safety.
Heck yaaa it's lunchtime❤
I wish I had known those were rare. Bought one 20 years ago for$25 complete and running and after 2 years of of a bunch of kids learning on it sold it for $200. Was a super fun bike. Way better than my rupp or Gemini
What a cool piece of mini bike history.
Excellent vlog guys, ✌️👍🇬🇧
Cadillac of mini bikes Love it 👍🏻✌🏻
Back to the old days just you two guys working on somthing. Don’t get me wrong we all love Charles but there’s nothing like the old dynamic duo. Love you Charles lol
I love the barn find mini bike I love the color red it's awesome good find runs great
Glad to see you back, and doing great after the hacking of Your Site! Love your collection of Mini Bikes and Go Carts! Keep up the great work!!!!
That's definitely one of the coolest mini bikes I've ever seen. Awesome! 👍
That is a great little bike! I like the fact that is is so simple of a build!
Sweet mini bike guys!! since it's so complete and original I would try to keep it that way with the original carburetor so forth
This episode just flew right by man, this kind of stuff I enjoy the most personally just getting old stuff moving again
That is a wicked sounding 4 horse!!
Nice piece of vintage glory. Can be the get around unit for the back 40 when the driveline is fixed
That's a cool bike Ike! Same way I found my chrome Harrison with front ski barn find!
Wow, it's even older than I am. It might be in better shape than I am too, lol. A great find Issac!
IIRC the four cylinder engine in the WWll Jeeps were called ‘Go Devil’
I've got a yellow one from Missouri with rear shocks, and a cantilever front end..always wondered what it was thank you for this video...........alot of questions closer to being answered
If you need to use the hammer and pry bar on a flywheel (or hammering on the end of any threads) put the nut back on a few threads to protect the end of it.
Doesn't always save you tho, you can still crush you're threads done it so many times
great mini bike I have this same bike that is Bonanza blue!!! 2 1/5 briggs flat head a keeper fellas!!!
Hopefully y'all restore that one just awesomeness for sure !!
Coolest mini bike I've ever seen or heard. The thing sounds awesome!
Love the episode just wish you would have had junkyard digs helping out
You guys continue to be so awesome in your videos 👍. This Old Man from Washington NC always enjoying. Merry Christmas hope y'all have a great time with family. 🛵🧔💝💝💝
At the 22 minute mark I thought to myself. Man that look like Kevin's yard. Looking forward to the other videos that come from this trip!
That is so nice. wow
Alright minibikes don't get much nicer than that.
Great video, awesome little bike, good “bodging” to get it running. 👍🏼
Way cool episode on so many levels!
I love your channel & JYD. Great mini bike & cool to see the Honda Odyssey & the Jari (you called it a lawnmower).
I wish you guys would drop more than two videos a week it's ridiculous and by the time you get back to the drag rail it's two weeks later I really wish that you guys would fix the problem that it's having and continue to work on that
You can get these replacement carburetors on Amazon with a low and a high speed adjustment as an upgrade for about 15 to $20. Of course they're Chinese made but they're not too bad and they get the job done.
I love JYD channel.
Always got something awesome going on!!!!
Same with you guys!!!
Excellent job guys....Awsome parcel restro !!
Got my Xmas dragster for the tree. Thank you
Can't beat the sound of a flathead... also seemed to have been unsubscribed unknowingly to me...
Glad to see you guys got your channel back!
that minibike looks like alot of fun
great find
That’s a perfect find I may have a lead on a old original sears I saw hanging in a barn about ten or fifteen years ago I’m going to check it out I can remember when the brothers got it for Christmas glad I saw this it reminded me about it I may go check if it’s still there
Hell yeah!!! Hello from Des Moines, IA.....I hope you enjoyed your trip friend!!!
If it's a "Sensation" whom actually manufactured it? They built some awesome push mowers which had cool mag looking aluminum wheels and a cast aluminum deck. Painted mostly metallic green with aluminum accents! Not really sure if they made mini bikes as well??? SMFH but awesome find guys!
I always enjoy your videos especially the mini bikes takes me back when I had my mini bike thanks guys
I never wanted a mini bike before watching this channel. It may be the last thing the guys with cubic dollars haven't ruined.
That's a cool bike. Can't wait to see the rebuild video.
sweet mini bike, it has an awesome exhaust note too!
That little motor sounds good interested in the results when adding those parts.
This was an awesome video, y’all should supe up a Honda hobbit!!
There is almost no in-depth videos on it and it’s amazing!
That's a gen minibike!! Good job guys
It would be cool if you could find someone that used to work at the factory that built these or work at the company to give some insight into these old bikes
Great find! Looking forward to another vid on this bike!
I wish y'all could get a Subaru motor. Haven't seen much info on them but hear they're interesting and have power
