I am 71 and very new to throwing and looked online for instruction that I could understand. I am so happy to say i found John Bowman. He explains the discus throw and breaks it down to drills which are easy to follow. He also explains how it should feel and he focuses on the positive ... that is what you should be doing and not what you could be wrong. I am so excited to think that at my age I can be a discus thrower so I have signed up for the online course. John has already analysed my throw and talked me through how to remedy my feet position.

I wanted to thank you for making these videos. I have watched a lot of your vidoes and you break the skill down so easily that I am able to help my daughter correct what she has been doing wrong. Just by adding a few small changes last night she was able to add 10 feet onto her throw. Now its time to learn how to do the spin correctly. Thanks again!

can't wait for the snow to be gone and try some throws again, but I have been working hard at home doing weight training and drills.

I threw in high school and college. It has been a long time since I first learned how to spin and am glad I wasn't too far off. I am teaching my middle school daughter to throw and she rocked the standing throw last season so we progressed to the half turn. Thank you I think this will help!

I appreciate what you do bud! I was a pretty solid discus thrower in HS and college, stepped out for a bit, and am now coaching my high-school throwers. Its nice to have you put old concepts back together for me.
The number one issue I've had is learning how to coach BRAND NEW throwers. I can tweak the best of throwers but teaching from square 1 is hard!

Yes, I understand. Coaching a new thrower is totally different. But I've found it very rewarding as they are often the most grateful for the help.

Thanks man. The village fete is coming up and I am the reigning 'welly wanging' champion and need to defend my title. I need to raise my game as there is a really big guy who wants to win it. This is the technique I will practice and use. So thank you for the video! Any advice on how to release a welly? I roll it up at the end and grip it like a rolled up news paper so the release is a little different to discus I guess.

Fantastic drill. I will add it to my list of drills for the throwers at HSE. Do you have a recommendation (affiliate link) to good medicine balls to use for these drills?

Question: What are expected percentage increases (rule of thumb) between power throw, half turn, and full throw. Meaning if your power/standing throw is 100ft, what should you expect your half turn to be, and what should you expect your full throw to be. Assuming solid technique with all three.

Coach what are some of your pointers with schools going in to an A/B schedule and you only see the students 2 times a week. What install do you have for it? Or, what ideas could you share. Love your video use all of them all the time with my throwers... Yes, both shot and disc
