Older Nissan VQ-35DE ENGINES have those too but they are in the form of a thermostat and located in the rear top of the engine and are called "water valves." I learned this from a repair video on my 2001 Nissan Pathfinder, very hard to get too have to take the whole top intake apart to get to it. Yeah, shitty vehicle designs

2019 and newer Rav4’s have this problem. Not sure why it’s not a TSB yet since it happens on most of them. Everytime you see that message, it’s typically the coolant bypass valve. On some occasions it’s the electric thermostat.
So just for clarification, the code is being thrown because cause the main feed valve, in this case thermostat, is failing? Because it sounds likke the dude in the vid misdiagnosed the problem. If the bypass is activated, that means the main has failed.
it's almost like the oil coolers on the 3.6 Pentastar from Chrysler always leaking. No TSB's or recalls for it, but it's a known issue across any shop at this point.

This happens a lot, people get hyper sensitive and start to notice “new” things when something else changes. Yes, that is the time to be aware, but often the things don’t correlate like a burnt out lightbulb after an oil change.
My dad had a 72 Mercedes that an idiot engine service light cube that had been added to the lower dash edge by the dealer. He had his old mechanic take a look to see where it was connected and pull it out. It only triggered the light after having the key on for so many hours that might have matched the usual 3000 mile oil change. It was truly a prehistoric money light.
Haha like the old VW rabbits with the odometer counter to trip the egr or cat light ,early ones had a box on the speedo cable and later ones had a switch on the back of the cluster 😂
Ok? The tech here is well spoken, clean, and intelligent. And they diagnosed the problem honestly and double checked with a meter. The customer was unable or unwilling to do this skilled labor. What are they supposed to do? Ask for a $20, a pack of cigarettes, and a handjob?
I have that same snap on scanner. It is the worst Piece of crap I've ever bought, and over the years I bought a bunch of them. I sent it back to Snap on and they said they replaced all the hardware on the inside of it and that's all they can do. it's still doing exactly the same thing. It's very slow and glitches all the time. So if there's any future techs thinking about buying Snap on scanners don't waste your time or your money.

My GM car from the early 2000s will throw up a check engine light for anything that has to do with the engine or the powertrain of the vehicle. There also a vehicle maintenance light and a change oil light. The vehicle maintenance light I learned is when there’s something wrong with the vehicle that has nothing to do with the powertrain so this could be a burnt out light bulb or bad relays that are not working or a bad ground bad body control computer or blown fuses will all set that light. And change oil is just change oil.
But y'all actually think Toyotas are THAT good.... had this have been a Hyundai, y'all would all have pitchforks out, however because it's a Toyota, it's okay..... I swear.... all these sheeps.....

The system was shorted when you ran your meter across it? This is confusing for anyone trying to understand your diagnostic process. The circuit was shorted due to the present coolant at the connector causing the short, what i think you did is verify if there is a voltage drop at the connector itself from the source.
I just paid $565.00 for cooling valve malfunction, it’s a rip off from the dealership. Just as i did my oil change had to take it back to dealer, first the guy said $685 then he said $583.00 and finally I paid $565.00 according to him Toyota cut the price lower big deal this should have been a recall, but trust me I will never go back to Toyota Auto nation in Weston FL or buy another Toyota vehicle, they will never see me again a bunch a thieves.
Being a “mechanic” these days is far more technical than when I rebuilt an Opal GT in the nineties. You literally need a lot of experience with electronic technology just to find out what the problem is. Luckily that fix looked stupid easy to fix, after you found the problem. Not always so lucky with cars these days. Sometimes you need to remove the engine to change the oil. (Sarcasm)
That's why they don't want seniors in the shop anymore... Which sensor is bad? Probably the one with the fluid coming out of it. 99.9% of the time. How much time did you charge them for the diagnosis? How much was the repair? More or less than the diagnostic time?
Tesla snots pay for lots of extra cost when purchasing a Tesla for 2X or more than i paid for my Rav4. I paid $23k for my brand new Rav4 in 2020. The extra $20k to $40k or more that is needed when buying a Tesla pays for a lot of gas and oil changes.
Here’s a quick tip for everyone don’t take your car to the dealership. Find out how to bypass and reset that stupid light. Go ahead after that and take it to your local gearhead who actually know how to work on Toyotas. I know, I’m one of those local gearheads, and I’m always fixing your guys mistakes at the dealership. What I do is I take all the crap off of it that the manufacturer puts on it to get customers to come back for all of these Little events that happen to ding them for a fee. Oh, we can’t just turn off the light because of insurance reasons we’ve got to do the 20,000 mile check we got to do the 15,000 mile check and all of that garbage. Enjoy paying $200 an hour for a tech who’s getting paid $25 an hour and doesn’t care about your product. Take it to somebody like me who’s going to go into that system and pull all that crap Off. I’m interested in your car lasting the longest I don’t want to see you. The dealership wants to see you. They want that car to break at 80,000 to 100,000 miles when you still owe on it so they can roll that into your next car. I don’t do anything to anyone’s car that is going to have them come back to me. I do all the research to find the parts that last the longest whether that’s OEM or a third-party. I don’t put crap parts on peoples cars. If it’s plastic, you better believe I’m getting rid of it for metal. I’ve got a young buck in my shop who does nothing but fabricate metal clips And sensor housings so when we’re on our way out, we can give the customer metal. Plastic doesn’t belong anywhere inside a motor and I don’t care what you say. If it’s metal, it deals with heat cycles and it’s stronger than plastic. The plastic that is as strong as some metals is exponentially more expensive than the metal and we all know that the car manufacturer/dealership isn’t doing that for you. Don’t take your car to anyone who doesn’t like cars to begin with. people that work at dealerships work for the dealerships best interest not yours. I take my car to the mechanic shop where the guys actually own the cars that I drive. I have a Subaru, a Honda, and a Toyota. The shop that I run and the shop that I also use All has those cars parked in the back with guys who are passionate about about modifying these cars. Those people are the ones who are trying to fix the manufacturer problems. Dealerships are in bed with the manufacturer and don’t want to fix the problems. They just want to put the same part on it so it breaks in another 15,000 miles to have you back in there.

Had a Rav-4 was a complete piece of shit. Engine was toast at 150K. I maintained it religiously with Mobil 1 was never over on our changes. Was using 3 quarts a week!

I know many people with that same engine, the a25a, and they havent had any problems. My mom has one with 90k and i know another person who has 170k and neither has had a problem with the engine

Toyota dealer charge 750 it only Cosme 107 the price of the part on my Toyota 2020 is really tight space but with patience it can be done it took me less than an hour to complete the job

My engine maintenance alert just came on and when they checked it they said it was a coolant bypass valve so I guess most of the corollas are having that problem.

Toyotas suck ass. My 17 rav4 xle awd at 55k had a water pump failure and a bad charcoal canister for the fuel evap system.

I made a video on this a long time ago on my Corolla. This is a common issue and they all pretty much crack and leak around the same spot.

My engine maintenance alert just came on and when they checked it they said it was a coolant bypass valve so I guess most of the corollas are having that problem.
Mine was idling rough. I just erased the code and everything went back to normal.
Very common as low as 15k miles for that valve to go bad.
550 bucks.plus labor for a 3 piece of plastic ... fkit...drive it w the light on and tape the light
full system scan first while pulling it in the bay basics on a modern vehicle with a system fault indicator illumated

I have a 2019 Rav 4 that had this problem. There should be a recall on this. That is an expensive fix at the stealership.
Why would you remove the plug on the coolant sensor to change the oil? Doesn't make sense.

Get with the times. Buy a damn code reader theyre like $50. All the man did was replace what the computer told him to. An old car would need more effort and thought to locate the issue

Customer should be allowed to look at the work been done and shops should video of the work been done.
Putting a meter on it was a waste of time, it has a tsb on it as soon as you confirmed code you shouda known what to do.
Dont be surprised if you ever see coolant seep all the way through the harness to the ecm.
