Let's make a new law. You can only use an existing ride name if it's a clone of that ride. So Batman clones are OK as long as they have the same layout as the one at Great America. All subsequent Goliaths have to be changed. Subsequent Supermans, Jokers and Wonder Women have to change. One of The Mummy rides has to change. Little Dippers across the US. Cyclones. Etc.
Something that I learned last year was that there is actually no such thing as a "Gwazi" in African folklore. Busch Gardens themselves admitted during an interview after the first announcement of Iron Gwazi, that they made that name up for the ride theme back for the original GCI dueling wood coaster form.
As someone said on the best coaster names video’s comment section, roller coasters with names like Roller Coaster and Coaster are perfectly themed when you think about it.

Okay, seriously. Steel Curtain is not a bad name. It fits perfectly with the ride’s theme, sounds cool, and has a cool similarity to Steel Phantom, which was at Kennywood as well. I seriously don’t get the hate for this name.
I've wondered for a while now, why did the Luna Park staff on when they named a roller coaster "The Tickler", which might I add is a Zamperla Wild Mouse, which is basically a family coaster. Truly one of the greatest mysteries of all time.
It’s named after the 1906 Luna Park coaster/ride, where the riders were in a tub that made its way down a sloping, serpentine course with posts all along the side, sort of like a human pachinko machine. The car (tub) randomly bumped into the posts all along the way, so it was like the car was being tickled as it went. It used to jostle the riders around a lot, so it became famous as a ride to take a date on, as you’d get to know your date pretty fast. @@badgerstatecoasters7725 i would kinda agree it's unoriginal, i just expected you to say so.
My family and I rename coasters for fun. Usually an inside joke or something to describe the coaster. Our best one to date was for the Mantis at Cedar Point... after an exceptionally painful ride, my husband more appropriately named it the Man Twist.
I remember first seeing Valravyn in person, and I thought it sounded kinda cool (like a combination of a Valkyrie and a raven). Since those are both creatures that fly, I thought the name was fitting for how tall and fast the ride was. As for Rougarou, I remember seeing a commercial for it and thought it sounded like an odd name, and I at least expected some theming to the ride in regards to the name. Unfortunately there’s not much of that.
"The Bobs" bit actually comes from the legendary Bobs roller coasters that terrorized folk at Chicago's Riverview Park. A P&C classic that had a reputation as one of the most intense rides ever. Raging Wolf Bobs was based on the original Bobs as well, if memory serves.
My least favourite coaster name is ‘Stealth’ at Thorpe Park. There is nothing stealthy about a coaster that sticks up 200+ feet in the air, and most of the theming revolves around an old American speedway.
@@technoandrew Nighthawk at Carowinds. Originally opened at California’s Great America (then a Paramount Park) in 2000 as the first flying coaster before being relocated to Carowinds as Borg Assimilator in 2004.
As a Lagoon native, there were rumors going around back in the day amongst us kids that there was a Jet Star 1 in the park. Rumors differed from it collapsing to killing someone on it, which in turn made them rebuild it and called it Jet Star 2. But honestly, I think why they just named it Jet Star 2 was because it was the original coaster of its model and because that's what it was called at the World Fair it was showcased at. But in my opinion, I think Wicked has a worse name. It's themed to a chemical or power plant where something goes wrong, yet they chose to go with "Wicked". Rumor has it that Dal Freeman's daughter named it after the Wicked musical because of the color scheme, but doesn't really fit the theme and doesn't make it stand out from coasters with names like Wicked Twister and Wicked Cyclone.
*sees Son of Beast at the #8 spot* "Come on, it can't be that bad of a name" *realizes the shorthand for Son of Beast is SoB and knowing what that means too* "Oh..."
1:57 Ironically, Geuaga Lake pre-Six Flags had the Vekoma Boomerang named "Mind Eraser" while the SLC had a different name (Serial Thriller). When I was there when I was younger, I didn't read the ride's sign and thought the ride was called the "Mindey Racer" at the time. lol
Some names I personally am not a fan of: Racer 75, any coaster that's actually named Roller Coaster, Twisted Cyclone, Twisted Colossus, Hurler Also I personally like the name Steel Vengeance, tho I do agree that Iron Gwazi is a terrible name.
If part of your reasoning for putting Iron Gwazi on this list is cause they "threw Iron on it as if they were a Six Flags Park" then why is a literal coaster that they slapped Iron on the front of at a Six Flags park not on this list? You know, Iron Rattler. And yes the Crocodile theme doesn't fit Gwazi, but it's clear and obvious they kept the Gwazi part of the name as a homage to it's predecessor.
I wouldn’t say it’s bad but Zadra translates to splinter, I’m Polish and half my family’s Polish and neither me or my dad (whose first generation Polish) have ever heard that word before. Zadra is also part of the words zadrapać, Zadrapania, and Zadrapanie which means Scratch, scratched, and scratched up. Kind of a weird name but I guess it plays into the whole “wood coaster” marketing Energylandia had for it. I’m also surprised at the lack of dog fart coaster or any of the coaster names from Theme park crazy’s coaster names video
Ughhhhh your number one was shocking 😂 I love that name, but I totally agree that when they announced it, I was also very confused. However, keeping the original name definitely pays homage to it, plus BGT apparently made up the myth anyway, so I guess they had free range to do what they wanted with it.
I was definitely waiting for "Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit". I like the ride, but seriously? It's in Orlando, not Hollywood, has the word "Ride" big no no, and is not a rocket since its the only non-launch coaster at Universal. I don't understand how they decided on that.
1. The parks themed to the movies, and is even located around former soundstages 2. Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster, Flight of the Hippogriff, and Pteranodon Flyers would like to speak to you.
Disney's Hollywood Studios is one of my least favorite park names because the park is in Lake Buena Vista, not Hollywood. They should've just called it Disney Studios after MGM was dropped.
@@MrSRArter well it’s themed to Hollywood, or at least themed to the movie industry. Hollywood is a real place but for the movies is mostly a phrase since Paramount is the only major studio there. Universal is at Universal City, Sony is in Culver City, and Disney & Warner Bros are in Burbank.
Sorry this doesn’t correlate to the video buttttttt I think you’ll love to hear this. The president of GCI in an interview a couple weeks ago was talking about their new titan track. There was one line where he said that he looks forward to it being used on predator at Darien Lake. Rather than an RMC, Six Flags actually forked up the money to do some steel retracking to Predator. I’m sure you will love to hear this.
The Tickler and it's creepy face are a tribute to Coney Islands past - The tickler was a roller coaster that opperated at the origional l Luna Park in 1906 that was a predecessor to the Virginia Reel and the face, well that creepy thing was actually the logo for Steeplechase park which once stood where that part of Luna park stands today, they liked their creepy logos back then, the now defunct Rockaways Playland had an even creepier looking one , but the name and logo only work if you know obscure history, I would have thought there would have been a big sign in front of the ride that explained it all since they seem to be very much into the history of Coney
It still baffles me that for ‘Iron Gwazi’ they threw the whole accurate meaning of the Gwazi out the window and was like “Yeah, the term means crocodile”.
I love how 24/25 of these are from the US 😂 but yeah PB should've renamed Big one after the Pepsi sponsor, especially since its red track and blue supports.

The Mural for Flight Deck at California's Great America has F-15s painted on it...those aren't navy planes. Also, I would argue that Flight Deck can work for a coaster name if the coaster is launched, like the catapult used on aircraft carriers.
You’re funny, Airtime Thrills. That Krusty the Clown gag made me crack up laughing! 😂 Thank you for the laughs! 😎Cheers from Florida!😎The Tickler....seriously!? I want a coaster to make me scream, NOT laugh.

As for Rougarou, I remember seeing a commercial for it and thought it sounded like an odd name, and I at least expected some theming to the ride in regards to the name. Unfortunately there’s not much of that.
If Scream had been themed to the horror movie franchise, it would have been Scream: The Ride.
Scream...oh that's the parking lot
It’s funny how Fiesta Texas has the only invert in the chain not called Batman but then they named the s&a ride Batman.
Well La Ronde does have La Vampire but that park can’t use DC stuff.
More like a tamed down version
thought it was a bobcat
One that rarely gets a mention on lists like this:
OCT Thrust SSC1000.
Agreed. Even translated to English: "Speed Car" is pretty bad!
"Panic Coaster Back!? Daaan!!" is my favourite bad coaster name
I guess you could say it’s so bad it’s good?
My least favourite coaster name is ‘Stealth’ at Thorpe Park. There is nothing stealthy about a coaster that sticks up 200+ feet in the air, and most of the theming revolves around an old American speedway.
What about Stealth at Paramount’s Great America?
@@DoswarePictures I’m not familiar with that ride.
@@technoandrew Nighthawk at Carowinds. Originally opened at California’s Great America (then a Paramount Park) in 2000 as the first flying coaster before being relocated to Carowinds as Borg Assimilator in 2004.
How is it that “Roller Coaster” and “Boomerang” are not on the list?
USUALLY Roller Coaster is on such an old coaster that it is what it is. But Boomerang is a good name even if it's super overused.
Boomerang gets a pass I believe because it describes the ride experience pretty well
@@AirtimeThrills That’s fair
As a Lagoon native, there were rumors going around back in the day amongst us kids that there was a Jet Star 1 in the park. Rumors differed from it collapsing to killing someone on it, which in turn made them rebuild it and called it Jet Star 2. But honestly, I think why they just named it Jet Star 2 was because it was the original coaster of its model and because that's what it was called at the World Fair it was showcased at.
But in my opinion, I think Wicked has a worse name. It's themed to a chemical or power plant where something goes wrong, yet they chose to go with "Wicked". Rumor has it that Dal Freeman's daughter named it after the Wicked musical because of the color scheme, but doesn't really fit the theme and doesn't make it stand out from coasters with names like Wicked Twister and Wicked Cyclone.
is lagoon playing planet coaster and they just forgot to rename jet star 2
*sees Son of Beast at the #8 spot* "Come on, it can't be that bad of a name" *realizes the shorthand for Son of Beast is SoB and knowing what that means too* "Oh..."
At least it’s not as bad as Cedar Point’s abbreviation
1:57 Ironically, Geuaga Lake pre-Six Flags had the Vekoma Boomerang named "Mind Eraser" while the SLC had a different name (Serial Thriller). When I was there when I was younger, I didn't read the ride's sign and thought the ride was called the "Mindey Racer" at the time. lol
Mindey Racer was probably a favorite of former US President Barraco Barner.
This really shows how subjective this stuff is. Some of these names are in my top 20.
Golly Gee! I can’t wait for the
Track Dodger (Knott’s Berry Farm)
Cowboy Coaster (Six Flags San Antonio)
Stingray (SeaWorld Orlando)
& Patriot (Six Flags New England)!
Top Thrill Cubster (Six Flags Great America)
I’m not even going to correct you on these ones
Some names I personally am not a fan of: Racer 75, any coaster that's actually named Roller Coaster, Twisted Cyclone, Twisted Colossus, Hurler
Also I personally like the name Steel Vengeance, tho I do agree that Iron Gwazi is a terrible name.
Racer 75 should’ve been named “Pirates of the Caribbean”.
I hate Racer 75 because Rebel Yell was a bad ass name
The worst part about iron gwazi is that I remember hearing rumors that it might have been called “uproar” which imo is a sick name
Wow. Reminds me of a Jacksfilms video where a fake fact about Thanos’s name being changed in Ukraine bamboozled a Ukrainian.
@@DoswarePictures yeah, although I do think the definition is legit here
Ughhhhh your number one was shocking 😂 I love that name, but I totally agree that when they announced it, I was also very confused.
1. The parks themed to the movies, and is even located around former soundstages
@@MrSRArter Yeah, I still just call it MGM.
I will be doing a video next month on coasters that could be getting that Titan track over an RMC conversion
@@AirtimeThrills o cool, I’ll be looking forward to that. With titan track do you suspect layout changes or just a retracking?
@@stickskinny1266 just a retrack
5:06 Because the ride was named and laid out based on the Bobs wooden coaster at the former Riverview Park in Chicago.
I've always wondered what Valravyn and Rougarou meant. I figured they weren't made up but didn't expect them to come from folklore.
I knew what Valravyn was but I honestly thought Rougarou was a made up word.
i thought rougarou was a beyblade
Flight deck actually references the cockpit of an aircraft, the pilots often refer it to that, that’s what those names mean
Chris, do you plan to be at SDC on Saturday? If so, there’s a coaster meetup at Outlaw Run at noon.
Nah, too busy with the move still
@@AirtimeThrills understandable
The Tickler and it's creepy face are a tribute to Coney Islands past - The tickler was a roller coaster that opperated at the origional l
Luna Park in 1906 that was a predecessor to the Virginia Reel and the face, well that creepy thing was actually the logo for Steeplechase park which once stood where that part of Luna park stands today, they liked their creepy logos back then, the now defunct Rockaways Playland had an even creepier looking one , but the name and logo only work if you know obscure history, I would have thought there would have been a big sign in front of the ride that explained it all since they seem to be very much into the history of Coney
It still baffles me that for ‘Iron Gwazi’ they threw the whole accurate meaning of the Gwazi out the window and was like “Yeah, the term means crocodile”.
Steel Vengeance's name is so badass tho, I don't understand
"Roller coaster" is the best name for a coaster
Don’t know why Mind Eraser is on this list, It clearly does.......... wait, what was I thinking about?
Texas giant 2, electric boogaloo
Texas Giant 2: Texas Harder.
9:22 To be fair, "flight deck" is also a synonym for "cockpit." So riding it is supposed to be like you're flying a plane.
C’mon man!! Steel Curtain is a great name especially for a coaster in Pennsylvania
I think it would of been better for a flat ride in that section.
Curtain tho...just ehh
I’m def here for coasters that incorporate local historical references into their theming.
My brother and I call steel vengeance Steve as a shortened name. Perhaps that can be it’s new name
I’m so sorry I only agree with two on the entire list 😬😬 I like, like all these names haha ❤️
Same here, I respect this guy so much but way too much hate for these names. Except for InvadR.🤷🏻♂️🥃
@@EastCoasters I wasn’t yelling at my TV or anything
Which 2 do we agree on?
@@AirtimeThrills InvadR & Batman. I’ll give you a pass on the Steelers too since I am a Colts fan. See you guys around in 2021 🥃📸
I love how 24/25 of these are from the US 😂 but yeah PB should've renamed Big one after the Pepsi sponsor, especially since its red track and blue supports.
I wish BGT went with Uproar instead
But how are we supposed to know it’s a metal coaster if it doesn’t have iron or steel in the name?
2:40. Who ya gonna call? MINEBUSTER!!!
This whole list made me crack up
4:46 I think the Bob’s are supposed to be bobsleds
How's it going in OK?
Pretty well so far. Liking the weather
“Earlier this week we talked about the best coaster names, so check out that video too if you haven’t already”
*The top 25 best coaster names video ends 7 seconds in*
Can't forget about "Dexter Frebish's Electric Roller Ride"
Hey, that name spawned a band
What?! That's a fantastic name!
I’m just glad Lil Phantom isn’t on here even tho they named it very lazily
El loco I actually like that name good fit in Spanish section of sfot
Yeah and instead get a name like El Diablo😒 I mean couldn't they coming up with a better name for a super Loop.
Chris: I don't like names that require a Google search.
Also Chris: My number 1 coaster name requires a lot of backstory and is themed to diarrhea.
Tickler: Throwback name to the Virginia Reel at Coney Island. Creepy face: Also throwback to Coney Island. Know your history bro...
Still not a great name
@@AirtimeThrills agreed
How it do crew?
The Mural for Flight Deck at California's Great America has F-15s painted on it...those aren't navy planes.
Also, I would argue that Flight Deck can work for a coaster name if the coaster is launched, like the catapult used on aircraft carriers.
You’re funny, Airtime Thrills. That Krusty the Clown gag made me crack up laughing! 😂 Thank you for the laughs! 😎Cheers from Florida!😎The Tickler....seriously!? I want a coaster to make me scream, NOT laugh.
WHERE IS DOG FART COASTER (Yes, its a real thing)
Would be on the best list if any
I was thinking about that one too
To my knowledge, it's at bon bon land? (in europe??)
