Controller drift is especially annoying when you prefer navigating menus with the D-Pad and your selection goes all over the place.

Honestly I have very slight stick drift and I don’t want to break my controller and dismantle it over a tiny stick drift
without taking anything, just pour a bit alcohol down the gap under the stick. move stick around. alcohol will gather up all the dust and shove them aside, hopefully freeing anything stuck. no guarantee though

I ended up switching the sensors from one joystick (which I barely use) to the joystick I always use!
man, i cant believe my xbox one s controller is almost 5 years old, its still amazing to use, did a replacement for the rubber for the pads awhile ago, but recently the left analog is drifting, altho not that bad but definetely going to try this, thanks !

I found that just popping out the green things on the side of the joy stick just a tiny bit fixes it

The other method is to de-solder the analogue stick from the board and replace it, but keep the pod's (the 2 directional pod's on the sides).
An item that saved many of my controllers, WD40 Contact cleaner - NOT regular, but specifically labeled as specialist contact cleaner quick dry. Just remove the stick caps and spray a bit in, turn upside down and let dry.
Almost always works, unless there is something broken in the joystick module.

Protip: Give it a blast of Deoxit D5. This removes all the crap getting between the contacts. Deoxit producs are used in audio production to clean up all the potentiometers that are involved on sound boards and electrical contacts in the other hardware, which is an awful lot like what you have in your stick module.
And if your ready to completely replace the modules and are feeling adventurous, try some DeoxIT L260-D5 Grease. As long as the carbon isn't horrifically worn, this should lubricate without messing with the conductivity too much (it's dielectric, meaning thin layers between two contacts will conduct, but any further and it becomes resistive so it doesn't short things)

Just a quick tip for the alcohol part when spraying it down cover the board up with a towel or something just so it doesnt soak. They are usually built well enough but if you have a damaged one or its just really old the alcohol could get into it and Its just better safe than sorry.
alcohol is non-conductive and evaporates fast. you know absolutely nothing except how to leave a false, pointless comment.
@@generalzova921 Also just to be clear in alchohol's raw state and pure form you are 100% correct that it isnt conductive but nobody every uses it that way and in the video the kind that was used is most definitely conductive as it is a mixture and not only alchohol
@@anon7248 You can hose down a motherboard with water and it will still boot just fine if you let everything dry.
Alcohol will dry even faster, it’s a non-issue.
@@calvin659 like I said in the first comment they are usually built well enough but if yours is damaged or is pretty old it can be damaged by getting wet. It's just better safe than sorry because if you have a problem with one you didnt know about then soak it thinking it will be fine then it's not that's usually at least 100 dollars down the drain. It's just an extra precaution to take thats all.
@@anon7248 the alcohol won't damage the components at all it work in such a way where you could literally dip it in a bath of the stuff and it would still be perfectly fine as the minerals that damage electronics are not present in the alcohol
Wow totally the best technique just have to tear apart my controller in the risk of the shakers falling and out take out the flat thing and break it because the flat thing is glued to the controller very good

Just solder on some potentiometers on it that can be adjusted and you can get rid of the drift on the physical hardware instead of using a program to make your deadzone bigger.
Can you make a video about how to replace the modules? I tried everything else but they haven't worked. I have been having this problem for a while now that the second module is starting to drift too. A nice step by step video on how to do it would be nice.
The thing is The Original Controller which came with the console is fine
But the other one I brought later is drifting when I select characters in injustice 2

I'll see what I can do but as you can see in this video, you really need to be able to clean it properly to make a difference and the plastic joystick covers block access when the controller isnt disassembled. Challenge accepted though, im thinking the isopropyl method may make a difference if you can get it to spray down past the joystick cover. (Hope that made sense)
I was watching a different video that doesn’t involve opening it all you have to do is blow into the joystick try that also it’s kinda like CPR so yeah try it

get a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol then rub it on the edges of the joystick

@@ttpechon2535 controllers wear out more hours you play they wear there’s not a fix it will happen over and over companies are procrastinating about this problem and eventually will do something but if they don’t they will get sued
it's easy to tell which sensor needs replaced.
if it drifts backwards and forwards, then it's the sensor on the side of the stick module that is drifting.
if it's side to side the it's the other one. get tweezers. the sell repair kits on amazon that come with everything you need to fix stick drift except for tweezers, because they send you whole new modules, but unless the whole thing needs replaced, you only need the sensors out of them. you are most likely going to need to buy the proper security torque screw drivers anyway to open up xbox controllers, unless you already have some, so you might as well just go with the repair kit that comes with them. you also get brand new thumb sticks if you also want to replace your old worn out ones if the controller you want to fix is an old one. i'm not a professional electronic device repairman, and i was able to fix my controllers stick drift multiple times using the replace the censors method. i had a really old controller i used for donor parts. the hardest part is getting the controller apart and getting to the sensors without breaking any of the rumble motor wires, they are aluminum wires not copper so they break easier if you bent them too much, it's safe to move them a round, but try not to do that too much or at any sharp angle, they most likely will break where they are soldered in place to the motors or the boards. also don't lose the yellow transparent tape inside the controller and put it back how it was when you are closing up. the black wire with that connects one part of the bottom board to another part of the top board just unsnaps and snaps back into place.

Does the percentage of the alcohol matter?
Not the best method but it worked for me if you don’t want to take it apart you can pull the joystick slightly out then really wiggle it around it won’t be completely clean but it will clear out the area eliminating stick drift if it’s just minor stickdrift
My cousin gave me an old Xbox One S controller that had stick drift, and I took the little sensors from my third party wired controller and now it works, but now my rumble motors broke😢

Isotropl alcohol works on my old vita, but few hours later its back , why is this , is this just acting like a lubricant on a mechanical issue or is it helping to move all the crap stuck in there before drying up ?

I'm just commenting my experience to see if it helps anyone. I had wicked drift (XBOX Series X|S) on my right stick. Symptoms were always moving in the up direction. Major pain when playing a game and always looking up.. I tried cleaning by compressed air, Iso Alcohol (99.9%) q-tip and toothbrush. I prefer not using cotton balls due to the transfer of tiny hairs. Nothing worked. I ended up taking out the Y axis sensor (Step 4 in the video) Looking at the sensor using a magnifying glass I was able to see a small white particle (maybe plastic?) and a very thin dust-like hair. I removed the particles using fine tip tweezers, gently cleaned with a q-tip and ISO. Let dry. Reviewed the sensor and sensor housing for any further particles and replaced the sensor. Tested and works better than it did when I bought it. Although I can see how a dust-like hair may make its way into the sensor housing, I can't imagine how a small piece of plastic would work its way in. I'm guessing most of the sensor issues may be due to poor quality assurance.
What does jitter in input is due to?
The joypad worked well before now, but now when I keep the left thumb controller to the left it gets jittering motion reducing precision of the input, it should be stable cause I hold the direction and not move anything but still happens, not always but often enough to make weird movements while playing in Tekken, looks like a sensor issue probably due to powder, should I clean the joypad? Or its' an electrical issue?
