I didn’t realize until it was pointed out to me that the guy Sally killed was in her class when her students got mad at her. Totally missed it the first time.
I missed it too and only realized while watching this video, legit gave me chills. Safe to say I will be paying close attention to the background of all her coming scenes.
The Barry/Hank phone call was incredible. We've seen Barry unhinged before and we've seen Hank go gangster before, but when Barry went Rambo it was a rage-fueled killing spree, here it's a white-hot threat. When Hank went gangster on Barry, it was because Barry hurt his ego, here he's being a cold and calculating mob boss. This is a very promising season
When he threw the giant boulder of a rock through the window got me I couldn’t stop laughing and replying it for 5 min 😂 “What are YoU DoInG??” “It was the only way Gene” 😂
Really hoping we will get a separate reaction of this season with Rick and Calvin when they are no longer sick. Enjoying the Eric and Aaron reactions as well though, can never get enough Barry!
These first few episodes have really made me realize how much I've missed this damn show. And how much I am going to miss it. So many perfect little moments.
Blink and you miss it. Barry had the biker dude in the background of the acting class for Sally. I feel like that will be a running theme for her trauma.
That scene's been running through my mind too, because Gene's "method" of calling on your trauma for your acting is reasonably similar to some methods of working through PTSD, so to have Sally's trauma "be shown" during the method and everyone to be alienated reminds me of when Barry came clean about killing people during the acting class. "If you do it during war, you're a hero... but otherwise... you're a monster" or something to that effect.
If you go back and watch the scene where Sally is being called out for abuse, when the camera cuts to a shot of the full class, the biker she kills is sat in the audience. I *just* caught it on my first watch and it sent shivers down my spine. Give Bill Hader a true horror movie.
After watching this reaction I just realized something chilling. During Sally's class right after she says lets take a tight five it cuts to the students and on the right in the very back row is the guy she killed. I did not notice that on my first watch.
I’ve often wondered why the actors accepted Gene’s abuse and not Sally’s. Is it because Gene had more desperate people in his class who couldn’t stand up for themselves and blindly trusted him? Or is it because Sally is female? Or because she was recently famous for blowing up at someone? They don’t really delve into that (which I love) and I think it’s an interesting question.
Lon speaking German outta nowhere was the hardest I laughed all week. And as someone who lives in Europe (and has been to Germany) and sees quite a lot of folks eating gummy bears, I REALLY appreciated the little joke of Lon going from eating Skittles to eating Haribo (a German company) Gummibärs after his off-sceeen torture sesh with Moss. Edit: a reply pointed out Lon was eating Skittles, not M&Ms as I had previously written
First I see Guillermo del Toro in Death Stranding (his likeness was used for a character, Deadman), which I finished a few days ago, and notwi see him in Barry What an excellent cameo lol
Jim Moss needs his own spin off. “Conversations in the Garage” where Jim talks to people about how they learn they will do anything to get Jim to let them out of his garage.
Dude the scene with Malipnos from B99 had me laughing so hard lmao. Just the expressions on his face. Couldn't wait to see your reaction and it was great.
The timing on this show just totally destroys me! I haven't laughed this hard in years. OMG!! I've watched this episode 4 times this morning!!!! It's an Emmy worthy episode!!! I'm calling it!
I am just in awe of what a master bill Hader has become. I first saw him in interview clips with Conan on UA-cam. Have always loved his humour. And now he has become a moster of a talent.
Fred armisen is a friend of bill haders. They were together on snl togeter. Theyve also created documentary now! with seth meyers. Im always so giddy when cameos like these happen
Gene’s friend throwing the huge boulder of a rock through the window had me laughing for 5 straight min 😂, also got me so hard bc right before, we saw Barry muttering to himself going insane lmao. The way this show contrasts the dark and humor tone is amazing
I’m guessing the blonde acting student is an assassin and trying to get to Barry through Sally. That actress has a build that makes me think she’s not your typical Hollywood newbie actress
If I had to guess what happened, Moss genuinely tortured the journalist. Journalists are the type of people to run the story no matter the pressure, so Jim would have had to completely break the journalist to get him to back off.
Hank was mad at Barry but wasn't it also the 3rd time Hank sent someone to kill Barry? the first episode in the car and on the second season on the roof with the guy who was a terrible shot.
Gotta say it was great to have a handful of the epic Barry comedic moments this episode. Gene and his agent crashing then busting through the journalists window had me rolling. Then to have Lon speaking in German for some reason. LMAO. And Hanks reactions and points to the podcast guy was friggin perfection. That’s a perfect example of Hader’s amazingly twisted mind. 😂😂
"Do you think someone will have a happy ending?" I feel like this is the opposite side of a coin to ted lasso. No matter what negative thing happens i'm sure ted lasso will always have the ted lasso positive vibe while with this show no matter what positive thing happens i'm sure it will always have the negative/self centered vibe to it.
"Just because it happened to you, doesn't mean you have to do it to us." Sally deriding that girl and being called abusive for it COMPLETELY shook her. And I'm glad she was called out. Because yeah the first time I saw that scene in the pilot I thought that it was, at the very least, VERY unfair and mean of Gene to say all that and deride her publicly like that. I hope that now she's realized this... She stops it and reflects upon her behavior and changes. Because the acting students that called her out are right. And Sally isn't really being herself with these acting methods. She's just regurgitating what cousineau taught and told her. She needs to teach in her own, hopefully better, way. But I hope that Kirsten saying "you're unhinged but you're also the only acting teacher to get something out of me" doesn't encourage Sally to continue her behavior. Cuz idk. Out of all the characters in the show, I have the most hope for her. Cousineau is just too old and in his ways to REALLY change. Hank is still a gangster, still doing crimes. Fuches is a narcissistic snake. Barry is uh... Fucked lol. So Sally, even with all of her flaws etc... She has a chance. And I really hope that she takes that chance and becomes better.
What do people in the comments think about Sally’s technique be considered abusive? I personally found that going there can create results. Like my Basketball coach used to yell at us, throw (minor) insults and such but I felt pushed and better? Sure I am not a pro star or anything no but I did feel I was getting better. Now ofc there was positive reinforcement as well. It wasn’t totally negative. But also if say someone from the team tried to use this on me then it wouldn’t work. Only with the coach.
Prediction for the ending: Barry will kill everyone. Hank tried to kill him. Barry will kill Hank. Gene ratted him out with Janice's Dad, Barry will kill them both Sally will refuse to go with Barry as she finally begins to reckon with breaking up with the violence in her life. And Barry will kill her. Fuches will be killed in prison. I think the show will end with Barry in a new place, working a regular job around regular people and back to being wide eyed and looking for his next father figure/life direction. And we'll see him connect with that person and realise that the minute Barry talks to that person? They are doomed. Plot twist. Cristobal survived and hunts down and kills Barry to avenge Hank. Finally the last person who never showed any tendency to violence will give in and commit murder and while he'll walk away once Barry is dead, the man he loves is gone and he will never be the same again.
I wonder what Barry is going to do when Sally tells him she doesnt want to run away with him. That would be Barry truly on the lose, no friends, no love and no plan, its a dangerous thing. I do love seeing Barry be a badass assassin though. I kind of hope to see Barry and Hank together again only because I love scenes with them, Hank deserves way better though.
I actually think that most of Sally's speech was fine. Kind of useful in that you should decide your goals. Her goals drive her. I would also say that a lot of football coaches are striagh up abusive. A lot of people justify it but just like with acting, it's like to what end? I would suggest watching Sarah Goldberg's interviews for the Off Camera Show.
There just something More Natural hove Henry Winkler does Cosenau method, I think Sally got Nuclear just too fast, Cosenau is old inaf to use His experience and channel it without that excessive personal rawnes, He plays those moments outside of him self (Sally could get there In time😊)
I think the Lon storyline is over. Seems like he made all his notes on his paper notepad and his laptop. I think Jim Moss tortured the info out of him as to where it was stored.
