My LT1/L83 had hoses running to an external oil cooler mounted in front to the radiator. That might have worked for you as well

    Trial and error!

I've been struggling as well with the oddities of the LT. An LS would have been far cheaper to install, but I"m committed now. I'm afraid to figure out how much more it's cost, but it's in the thousands.

I agree an LS would have been far cheaper… and it probably would have been simpler to figure out.
Compared to an LS it seems like there limited information out there for the LT especially the crate motor.
I think I have the majority of what I need now or it’s back ordered. But I assume it’s gonna cost at least a few thousand more to finish.
I definitely underestimated the project but it’s too late to turn back now!

@@lt4camino That's where I'm at. I ordered Dakota Digital gauges for mine. They are actually scheduled to arrive today. I'm getting my wiring harness from Speartech. David Spear worked at GM for a long time and was involved in a lot of the electrical design in these engines. I'm using the 6L80E that was attached to this engine, but as I was told when I purchased it, the pan had been punctured. What I found is that whatever punctured the pan, also pierced the Trans control module. So a new one is $650. Because I want to have tap shifting, the shifter is $500 and the computer and controls to make tap shifting work were another $725. The only way to get oil pressure, water temp, speedo and tach is through the ECM. Dakota Digital provides an interface through the OBD port to obtain that. AN LS has output for electric fans. AN LT has a PWM output which if you have a compatible fan is great, but I'm putting this in a very tight engine compartment and don't have room for one. So I have 2 SPAL fans. Again, Dakota Digital to the rescue. They obtain engine. temp data and with a fan controller can run the fans with different on temps and the ability to have the fans shut off when on the highway.

That sounds like a pain but at least you are making progress!
I called Speartech to see about getting a harness made they were super nice and answered all my questions.
With this crate motor since it’s a 2022 model GM changed the calibration on the cam phasers. Speartech said they heard about the calibration change but they have yet to make a harness for a 2022 LT4 just yet…but they have one on order and they said in about 15 weeks they should have it figured out.
Plus the GM engine controller kits are on back order until an unspecified date. So I may not have my car running for months until Speartech gets it figured out or until GM makes more engine controller kits I am out of luck.

Doing a similar build ( chevy II) could you tell me how you solved the oil return line on the passenger side please ?

If you watch my part 6 video around the 10 minute mark I explain what I did with that line.
Basically Long story short it’s Earls PTFE 10AN hose and hose ends/fitting and you will need a couple GM quick disconnect adapters to mount the Earls 10AN fittings to, one goes to the oil pan the other quick disconnect to the factory oil separator/catch can.
If you happen to watch my video I did not realize you could use the GM quick disconnect adapters for the oil separator tank/catch can so what I did was use a GM quick disconnect adapter into the oil pan ran a 90 degree earls fitting off that into a 10 an PTFE line. Then I took the factory line cut it in half and attached the PTFE 10an to it with a hose clamp… knowing what I know now I would have bought 2ea GM quick disconnect fittings, 2ea earls 90 degrees fittings instead of cutting the factory line in half and splicing it like I did. If you watch the video it will probably make more sense than what I’m trying to explain. Hopefully that helps.

@@lt4camino thank you, I’ll watch again but wasn’t aware of these quick connect adapters being available. I’m like you guys, just a lone dude doing a swap . Where are you located?

    • @lt4camino
      @lt4camino  2 роки тому +1

The part number for the quick connect adapters is 97-211 I got them off Holley’s website.
It’s definitely been a challenge researching and trying to piece everything together for this swap. Seems like there is not a lot of information out there for an LT4 swap. I’m over on the east side of Washington state.

Thanks again for the info. I’m about to finish up my vintage air and heater plumbing then onto the rest .
