- On Saturday the 6th of September 2020, John Heald ran his new locomotive for only the second time. The 0-4-0 freelance Clishay locomotive uses a 'Beam Engine' design and a steel boiler, proving to be John's most unique build yet.
But the work paid off, and the outcome is a stunning, hardworking, forgiving engine, making it easy for learner drivers to be educated on the running of steam locomotives. All whilst hauling three fully loaded ridecars with ease for the public.
This Locomotive Mini-Documentary covers the build process, some shots from around the Tauranga Model Marine & Engineering Society track, as well as an interview with the Builder & Owner, John Heald. Enjoy!

Fantastic! I thought about doing this a while back using a few Stuart Models beam engines but it never got past paper drawings XD

Can you provide some more info on where to purchase ( or build) the boiler you used?
The boiler was built by Page Macrae of Tauranga NZ. 300mm diameter, 530mm high, with 40 X 20mm copper tubes. Built to AMBSC code steel boilers.
