  • Star Wars Hologram Projectors are everywhere in a galaxy far far away. We first see one from R2D2 in the iconic scene where Leia let's old Kenobi that he is her only hope. It's a common form of communication and we thought it was about time we built a proper version for ourselves!

Wow. I love the aesthetics of that build especially. It has the feel of the black box that's survived a disaster in space, carrying a last holochron message. I can picture a captain's blue ghostly image asking the finder of the box to tell his family he loved them and then flickering away.

@@TheSmugglersRoom my first thought is a emergency transmitter. Converted to a mobile long range comms unit. So that the communications problem at scarring can be avoided. It even has scomp adaptor for connecting to a droid or computer terminal.

Glad you stayed with it . Its hard when so much is going on to finish a project. I bet when you got past the programming of the lights you where excited because the hard part was done . That is quite the work of art. Your attention to detail and ability is amazing. One thing I might note. I understand that this contraption is supposed to have that 'used' look, but the camera lens itself looks absolutely filthy. Of all the parts of a hologram unit, the lens should be kept pristine to make it look convincing. I know it's tough to find a good one and it's great that your friends helped out. Again, wonderful work! I wish you all the best.

LOL!!! So, i'll tell you something. This lens has been through some stuff, and there was so much dust up inside. The biggest issue is that I could not take it apart without damaging it. Trust me, the dust inside was driving me insane! Apparently this specific lens from the factory was sealed in a way that there was no mechanical connection that would release it so I could clean it. I even went as far as researching the manufacture and going through old install manuals. no luck. If these are damaged in the field (when they were still used that is) you had to replace the entire board. Crazy huh?

I really need to get on the ball with electronics. And that case is sweet! I’ll bet I can find one at the army surplus

Thanks. Yeah, electronics, even simple, can make your project pretty awesome. I found this case at harbor freight pretty cheap.

Would have been cool if you made the Lid Instructions glow like those glass holograms from stores, this thing without it though is so frickin cool still.

I think it would be cool if you 3D printed some clear figures to fit onto the lens so they light up blue like a hologram

You could get various characters printed in some color tinted clear resin for the holograms.
