Scholars do in fact slap enemies with the book. It even does more dmg than a lot of actual weapons for an auto attack.
yep. i remember actually laughing out load when i realized my auto attack was wacking some low level enemy with a book. It's super unnecessary min/max, but there is a certain level range (which slips my mind) where art of war is actually a dps gain on 1 enemy becuase of auto attack damage. That book has some real pointy edges lmao
I was gonna say: I remember Scholar from FF3 smacking enemies with their book so I tried it in 14 and was very satisfied!
WHY. DO SCHOLAR AND SUMMONER. DO MORE DAMAGE. ON AN AUTO-ATTACK. THAN RED MAGE.
@@howdoiloginknowledge is power
As a Selene Main I haven't forgiven SE for making me pretend I still have her with faerie glamour.
Or the fact they literally gave us her in the form of seraphim =/ I haven't played since storm blood seeing as my PC crashed so very excited to see it coming to series X finally
You've only ever had one fairy, her name is Lily. Eos and Selene are simply her modes.
@cparle87 wrong. I originally played from launch on PC up to around stormbloods release. SCH definitely had 2 different fairies Eos your general auto healer bot, and Selene was more of a buffer with the ability of granting haste and defenses to your group. I remember sometime after Seraphims release Idk when but I know at Seraphims release Selene was still a separate Fairy from Eos.
@@josephtidwell4845 I'm saying there are the same entity, just different modes. You don't have two different fairies named Eos and Selene. You have one fairy named Lily who has Eos and Selene forms.
@@josephtidwell4845lmao fail
As one of the sch mains, I can say that thick yellow bar is our addiction
Umbral spotted in the wild!
Yes, big crit, big happy.
Umbral!
Absolutely agreed. One thing I like to do is when is Recitation + Adloquium on a lowe level player just to see a shield that's twice as big as their HP bar.
Big yellow bar is why high crit is optimal healer gear and direct hit is garbage.
You 100% can smack a boss with your book via auto attack 😂 You just have to be close lol I've made a few people laugh running up and smacking a boss during raids 😂
STOP *[SMACK]* DAMAGING *[SMACK]* MY *[SMACK]* TEAM *[SMACK]* YOU *[SMACK]* IGNORAMOUS! *[SMACK]*
If I right click an enemy, and I hit them with my book for 890 damage... that isn't 890 damage from the impact, that's eight hundred and ninety separate papercuts for 1 HP of damage each delivered with the absolute precision of a master of battlefield control.
I really appreciate that, even if you don't like a particular job, you still give 10 compelling reasons why you should play it. I think a lot of creators would be tempted to make a joke video about the job they don't like, full of backhanded compliments and sarcasm. But yours is full of genuinely good reasons to play the job, even though it's not for you. Which is really admirable.
Fun fact: Scholars and Summoner's have the strongest auto attack amongst all mage classes. Smacking people with your book is rather effective it seems.
They have a stronger auto attack than Red Mage. I guess when the pen isn’t mightier than the sword, try the whole book
A book is a concentrated mass. While I do enjoy stick bonk, book thunk is a lot more effective. Try swinging a 40s medical book around, those things got heft. A 50 AE struggled to pierce that thing.
My scholar experience in a nutshell
lvl 30 to 89: suffering
lvl 90: wait, it's actually fun to play...WHAT?!
Scholar is my favorite healer over all. It has a tool for almost every situation. It definitely has a different flow and feel than others but I just meshed with it.
For me, it was the opposite. I leveled Scholar exclusively and never touched Summoner. Scholar happens to be my main job, I find it the most relaxing? It just has a flow to it that jives with my brain naturally. Also the Heavensward Artifact gear is the best one.
Level up scholar because instant queue
As a scholar main too, I always describe it as a lazy healer because for me it feels so chill to play. But now seeing this video mention how many abilities it has, that it's more proactive than a white mage, maybe harder in endgame, and that you have to divide your healing between yourself and the fairy, I can see why people might find it complicated. But me personally, I don't think about all these things at all why playing, I just do them naturally at this point. Maybe that's a sign of job mastery though. :D
@@whitewachtel405 For me its mostly about resource management and planning. Like knowing what to do in every situation using whats in your tool kit. Its so simple, yet seems like most people struggle with playing in that ruleset. Like Scholar is super veristile if you play it strategically. But you need to have that particular mindset or you're going to have a bad time. Overall, I think its awesome because it makes you feel smart.
Avy, get in melee range as SCH, we DO wack mobs with books! Hell during Susano my group decided to let me block Susano's sword (at level 80) and YOU JUST STRAIHT UP USE YOUR BOOK. It's amazing!
I did the old "level-summoner-to-90-then-try-scholar" experience.
how does that go? i'm new and lvling summoner but i want to try scholar too. kinda scared of learning all the skills at once but i guess it'll be fine lol
@@d1ssolv3r Sorry for the late response. I definitely had to just go back to the lower level dungeons and learn my skills. It's not bad :)
I did the same, I'm having fun with scholar
You may as well do summoner while arcanist is fresh on the brain.
Talk about how carbuncles used to be 10 ft tall with horns, claws, and fangs back in pandemonium, lol.
My vote's for Bard. Besides having a frantic rotation at endgame, the glamours are always on point... and beyond that, you can always use Performance -> Trombone -> C B B-flat A (long note)
I'm a newbie arcanist rn having a little buddy to summon and access to a healing and dps class were the two main reasons I picked it.
It's a great way to solo the game.
It's not such a big issue now, but using summoner to do solo duties, and scholar to do dungeons for the fast dungeon queues works very well.
The appeal of bludgeoning something to death with a book is pretty nice. Or am I playing scholar wrong
Scholar rotation is as follows. Smack ground, smack ground, smack ground, smack ground, return to start.
Scholar is still the only healer I ever loved
Avtcatte dark hair era? I’m all for it! This actually makes me want to try out scholar tbh
Reason 11: if u get close to enemies and let auto-attack on, u do a bonk
and that bonk is free potency even when you green-DPS with spells
don't go out of your way to bonk, but also keep AA on
7:14 Our auto attack is a book smack and I love it. Also art of war punching the ground. Selene was yeeted because yes.
I play Scholar as main from the start.. It was my first job in FF and after all time I still love this job :) after remove selene just switch to eos and take a glam on her ^^ But Selene is much more beautiful than Eos :-D and Scholar glams? I love their skirts ... my Au Ra looks amazing in them :)
Astrologian would be interesting, I am an astro main and it has very interesting abilities, like scholar it is hard to master but is rewarding in many ways, including beautiful animations and the best LB3
I really appreciate the dedication to the ditzy persona you've got going here, I just watched like 9 of your videos in a row.
I leveled both SCH and WHM healers to cap on my first few characters just running the daily main scenario roulette. When that was still fun in the 8 player instance.
SCH is to my mind at least, comfortably the easiest job to run the MSQ well into Shadowbringers with. That's me speaking as a middle aged man with crappy reactions these days. Switch to SMN for any of the mandatory 8 player trials to remove any challenge there also. (I'm looking at you Crystal Tower mandatory bollocks)
No (MSQ) solo instance up to that point will give you even a modicum of challenge on the very easy setting with a fairie constantly healing you.
Scholar took a while to click for me when I first started playing it, before it became the sole healer I played for the longest time. Now I swap between it and White Mage whenever I want to heal.
I absolutely love Scholar, it's my favorite job. It has such a diverse toolkit that makes it incredibly versatile. There really isn't any kind of situation that the Scholar doesn't have an answer for. I also love the more proactive playstyle, as it reminds me of playing Protection Monk back in my Guild Wars 1 days. Sharing a level with Summoner is a nice bonus.
I laughed when she called the fairy an emergency snack at 4:38. 😂😂😂
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH Avy!!💗💜💖💟💝^_^
If you ever need any advice about SCH in the future you can ask me, I main it.
I am a Healer Main, been healing since the first MMO with healing came out and I had to face desk when you said that you took of your healing spells. No... bad AvyCatte... you know what you did...
Overall though I do appreciate videos like this though
Just started 14 last month, and made the choice of Scholar as my starting job. It’s my first time ever playing a healer in an RPG, and I’m having a blast so far.
I liked the part where you did the thing, said a funny and i went haha 10/10 video would watch again
I love your videos so much
When I started playing scholar, I interpreted the tooltip to mean, that the shield spells will only add as much shield, as they heal, and thus would be entirely useless against someone on full health, until a nice person in a duty corrected my mistake.
As for the second fairy, it was turned into a skin. You can switch between the Eos and Selene look with a chat command. You can also turn your fairy into a Carbuncle, if you prefer that, with the same command. But I don't remember it off the top of my head and would have to look it up.
Hmm... speaking of which, what happens when you have your fairy glamoured into a carbuncle and use summon Seraph? Do you still get a big fairy, or something else? I've never tried.
Scholars (and summoners) do actually smack the enemy with their books, if you auto-attack in close combat. ;)
If you do the reaper, please asks Jocat to use the Spooky Slice song and if he agrees, make it one of the ten reasons. :D
Sadly, you can't change Seraph with /egiglamour "pet name" "pet you want it to be", she'll always be that one. And petglam stays till you change it yourself, even through log out and log in. And I might have written summoner's pet glam instead, but it's either /egiglamour or /petglamour at the start. Edit: And Jocat song is definitely one reason to play reaper 😀
Ooooh, maybe try dragoon! As a dragoon main, I love when peeps talk about it.
by the time i finish post heavensward ill have all jobs to 90 even crafters i gotta be one of the most easily distracted sprouts especially since its my first mmo , i still cant believe that the /eategg video is what sealed the deal for me to start playing but thank you
Scholar grows on you lol. Battle Librarian has its perks! The LVL 90 gear is dope FYI.
ah yes dps queues
i remember having to wait for 2 hours to fight ravana, which i needed for the msq.
i then switched to sage and now i basically have no queue time anymore.
great writing in this series!
TheLittleMaiden's video on Selene was so sad. Miss having her around outside of glamours.
You've done a healer and DPS, so how about a tank next? PLD plz! :D
I main sch and pld, and I do both because big shields, big mits, big defenses, no one touches my team only I. *bookslap*
Yeah I actually smacked enemies while leveling and it was very satisfying
I would love to see Dark Knight next up
I remember.... starting WHM, entering the Titan 4 man fight, dying the whole time, panicking, and not being able to keep my cool, falling off and leading to a wipe (there was no reviving in that trial back then). That's when I decided that I needed to play Scholar, and I finished all of ARR with it! WOW, so easy!!!!
Then I got to "The Keeper of the Lake", and I wouldn't do it. I couldn't handle it!!! I decided to give WHM another shot, and I stuck with it ever since. I always thought of giving Scholar another try, but it never quite clicked with me, and now that I have SGE as a shield healer option... it absolutely fell off my radar sadly.... because I love the aesthetic!!!!
I’ve been leveling summoner and gonna mess around with scholar. I think it’s a cool class and I like the spells and it’s fairly simple to play but I can already tell in harder content solo it’s very rough and end game I rarely see anyone using summoner or scholar. So for dungeons and casual play it’s fine but there needs to be some serious buffs to be viable for end game which I don’t know if it will ever happen. I do think it’s super awesome arcanist branches off to multiple jobs
I only need one reason.
Art of War go brrrrrr
this kind of video is really needed for people who want to do all the jobs but are intimidated to actually even start them, especially considering what the reward for getting all the jobs before endwalker to 80 is
What is the reward?
@@InMooseWeTrust an armaro mount
Listen, as a Scholar main, I will say it's the best job. No bias whatsoever, nope, none.
Can you do Dancer or Reaper next please?❤
I was afraid to play Scholar, but I eventually decided to try it.
Only to find out that being level 90 Summoner also makes Scholar 90 so I don't have to play it!
(Also can confirm that both classes smack enemies with the book if close enough.)
I wanted summoner but dps ques were so bad I hates school so much but I grit my teeth healed dungeons then turned out I loved the class and ended up as a sch main for a long long time never then rlly played smn after then 😅
I'm also a person who is satisfied for those shield healers when they drop a huge shield on someone. I also tell them the shields are nice in chat 😂
1:14 --- I... feel called out XD XD XD
3:55 --- I totally agree there: leveling SCH is so easy... until you hit lvl70, that was the breaking point for me ^^° Before that the fairy did all the work and I slaped on some shields or an instand heal, no big deal... Aaaand then things started to get interesting and I panicked ^^° Still, I finished up to 80 (back in 5.2 or 3) and the fun part: I had no idea how SMN worked XD I had to learn that job from scratch. But dont let people fool you in regards of SMN: old SMN was easy, too!
7:19 --- They do ^.^ Go melee range and right-click a mob ^.^
In open world, l can have 3 things following me. Chocobo, fairie, And minion. Feel good
*places faerie in center of boss arena*
*forgets to use heel after boss*
"why is my faerie not healing the tank? oh...."
*recasts summon eos*
...
happens more often than I care to admit
I played SMN to 90 it also lvl'd up SCH to 90 as well. I just had to do MSQ lol quests and that was it so I don't remember SCH either 🤷🏾♂️
Do DRG next so you can:
-get memed on with creative takes such as floortank and loldrg
-suffer from servertick-kills because Star Diver takes 5 milion years to finish
-you can do it all over again in 7.0 (just like with AST (gets reworked at least once every expansion), SMN (gets reworked exactly once every expansion), MNK (suprised the rework lasted the entire expansion)and BRD (your songrotation is still ass, just make Mages Ballad and Wanderers stances like AST had at the end of ShB that are always active and Armys as an OGCD that strengthens the song your currently playin with and gives you the proc-effect of both songs while it`s active like Neutral Sect on AST did for the Healing-stances, would be easier for new players as well) (I did not forget DRK and RDM, SE did)
So do you get to customize your book? Or?? I'm new 😅 7:01
Each weapon has its own unique look. You can choose whichever you like the most and use it as a skin, yup! Most weapons are also dyeable!
@@avycatte Thank you!! I have one more question me and my bf want to play but we didn't know the free trial doesn't let you play in a party do we have to start paying monthly to play with each other or is there another option??
Can someone tell me what are those shoes and that skirt? I want them now🤣🤣 thanks to everyone ❤
Im new and im afraid to do bad with scholar then i may be begin with white mage, idk
Relatable the drunk and leveled up to 90 xD
I keep forgetting Scholar and Summoner level at the same time.. I need to get off my butt and do the role quests. I love the aesthetic and job fantasy, and I am sure it’s not that hard.
Isn't the auto attack just smacking the enemy with the spine of the book?
can we all agree to throw her into Tank hell next so she'll have an absolute brain root? I think that would be funny having a screaming Avy
Summoner next! Summoner next!!!!
Please do black mage!!!
To keep with the steampunkish style, machinist next ?
3:57 "Scholar and some Nerd level together"
My favorite class is Machinist. I love committing war crimes!
How do you play with this hot barsetup Oo?
5:08 - 5:34 gods this felt so real
Gunbreaker or Macinist
ninja I love that job
Sch is my favorite healer. When shit happens, you can make ppl run away and still DPS while running
BONK WITH THE BOOK!!111
Nice.
Summoner- I started as an Arcanist, was too afraid to be a healer; so I chose Summoner and never looked back. Its my favourite job, easy to play well, and has some team utility too!
8:40 Min.: Astro.
Reasons: Because i grow up with star storys like the greek old storys and with yugioh. So its somthing realy nostaligic to me. The the stances are nice. YEAH Square disalbe them but i want them back. You can perfectly fit in EVERY groupe back them. I miss them. And then its the ONLY healer that can BUFF outhers. I love this that i can buff outhers and help with there dps. Let me i have a helper syndrom! .-.
And the healing is now direct. I love it to heal directly :3 And hey its realy bussy job so its not boring to play for me :D Enjoi making a video about my main ^^ I dont judge you if you use a part of my takes for the video or make a silly yugioh joke :D But hey have a great day at least :3
I started as aura, but now I am viera. I miss my sch hats
Your videos are so cute!
SCH with only Eos healing? Based.
Dragoon?
We need more glam slots
Scholar hurts my brain in a way that Sage doesn't. Only reason I even have SCH at 90 is because SMN is one of my go-to jobs
Dragoon 🙏
Eos gang RISE
I actually disliked that Scholar and Summoner leveled together because I enjoyed playing as both but if I reached the cap on one, the other did too automatically. Would have much preferred White and Black Mage were tethered together so I could have skipped leveling Black Mage entirely, lol.
You probably leveled Summoner and ended up with lvl 90 Scholar as bonus 💀
what a cute video for "bad sage"
Blue mage. Gimme.
you can still get selene its just glam now go back to the arcanist guild owo
makes sense since they got rid of the faeries separate skills two expansions ago...
Gotta laugh at the fact that the comments from ppl bashing books are also barely legible comments...coincidence?
Reaper???
7. "Summoners have beautiful animations" You mean scholars, right? XD
My brain is soup. Shh. No one else noticed. 👀
No, no.
No, that REALLY IS the early game Scholar experience.
You're basically just farting out an Adloquium every ten minutes, for no specific reason, just to remind yourself that you're technically a healer while the fairy does all the heavy lifting.
The exact, specific moment this stops being not ALWAYS the objectively correct tactic is Brayflox's Longstop, but in case you didn't get the idea then, Stone Vigil is happy to spell it out just a few levels later.
For your suggestion: I would LOVE to see a take on *Monk.* I feel like it's a bit...misunderstood; that it's thought to be harder than it really is.
I've been maining it on and off since 1.0 so I'm probably biased, but I think it very, very much fits the description of easy to play casually, but kicks stupid amounts of ass as you eventually get all galaxy-brained on optimizing it.
❤❤❤
Next should be a tank
