@@ecomrealist3563 All I know is that letting go of your entire life is very hard, especially when you're directly faced with your psychological death. I could never fully let go in samadhi due to fear of death, of lack of control, of non-existence. It's a huge dilemma, because it's so infinitely beautiful, blissful and familiar, but at the same time infinitely terrifying, painful and alien. Letting go of small things that bother you in the moment is just the tip of the ice berg.

    Thanks Leo, great awareness practice.
    Summary:
Your power is directly proportional to your ability to let go. It is a super power - if you can master this, you will become invincible.
So, try and let go of something daily.
This is a very powerful technique in raising your awareness. This will help you notice your automatic reaction/response to an impulse. Simply notice the impulse/urge, be aware of it, and then consciously let it go.
    Notes:
    - Do this daily, over years. Make it a habit.
    - Identify something within your experience and let it go (habits, thoughts, grudges, desires, needs, attachments, frustrations, obsessions, etc.)
    - Turn this into a game, not a chore.
    - Let stuff go just for the sake of letting it go.
    - Flex the letting go muscle. You CAN just let go of something, but you have to practice.
    - You're not suppressing your emotions, you're letting go (this is a conscious choice you're making).
    - Start with something small.
    - Don’t react, instead, respond.
    - Examples:
Itch on face (notice it first, notice the automatic reaction, but let that impulse go).
Something about your food doesn't come out right (catch yourself, notice your reaction, and let it go).
Someone cuts you off in traffic (notice your reaction and let it go).
Someone criticizing you (stop yourself and let it go).
Craving for ice cream or sex.
Seeing something that outrages you on the news.
A wish for a new job or car
    Hungry in the morning
Bored while waiting in line (let it go).
Urge to check your phone (don't follow the urge blindly).
    A grammar mistake
Obsessing about what someone thinks of you
    Worried about how you look
Feel like quitting on some project
    Worries about finances
    Tension in your body
    The urge to lie
The urge to cheat or steal
    The desire to manipulate someone
    An urge to distract yourself
Feeling bad about doing something wrong
    Feeling embarrassed
    Feeling confused
    Feeling threatened by someone else
Smell something disgusting (let go of that disgust)
    The need for perfection
    - This doesn't mean you always have to let this stuff go, just a particular instance of it. Do this at least once a day.
    - Consciously feel the urges and impulses and try to let them go. You may not be successful every time, but the more you try, the more you will strengthen your letting go muscle. Each time you try to let something go, you get better at it.
    - Try and let go of the big things too (POV on a particular matter, national identity, ideology, religion). Try and let go of it for 5 minutes. If you can't do this, do you see how wrong it is? You're stuck.
    - If you let go, nothing bad will happen. The fear of letting it go is just a story in your mind. Letting go is safe, normal, and healthy.
    - Let go of prized physical objects (notice the love and attachment to that object, and let it go).
But Leo, how do I let it go? Notice it and then drop it. Visualize yourself dropping it. Think of a role model and imagine how they would respond to your situation. Would they bitch and moan or would they just drop whatever was bothering them?
    - You're not enduring the pain; you're letting it go.
    - Let go of the need to get what you want (trust in the practice of letting things go).
    - Stop being run by emotions. This doesn't mean you will be emotionally dead inside. You will be more capable of feeling and loving and compassion. You will be less clingy and needy. This will elevate the quality of your emotions. You will feel more deeply because you will be more aware of your feelings.
    - This doesn't mean that you shouldn't fix problems. Let go of the hurt and then solve the problem/issue at hand.
    - You will be more effective by not being attached to emotion. You will be happier in the long run.
    - Let go of fear. Obviously, distinguish between fear and caution. Be aware that most fears are overblown.
    - Be careful about becoming neurotic about letting go! Let go of needing to let go. Make it natural and organic.
    - Keep practicing and you will eventually get to the point of not caring if you're alive. life story, self-involvement, thinking and internal dialogue, worrying and fear, physical pain, major attachments to people and things, your career, your business, health, and physical appearance.
You will eventually lose all these things anyways. You can either let it go willingly or resist the process.
    The choice is yours.

A good exercise I’ve found is to clench your fists tightly for 30 seconds and let go and let them open up on their own. Once you get the idea of how your fists let go and what it feels like, do it with your body/mind. Many of us have hundreds of clenched fists within our body/mind that have never been opened.

    Helpful verbal note:
This is stress/dukkha (feel the phenomena in question as unsatisfactory)
This is the origination of stress (feel how it’s only unsatisfactory/stressful/dukkha bc you don’t want it to be there)
This is the cessation of stress (open up and turn towards it, let go specifically of the desire for it to be otherwise)
This is the path leading to the cessation of stress (repeating the above and solidifying it thousands/millions of times)

I light a candle and write down on a piece of paper what I am feeling, the negative attachments things that are no longer aligned with my higher self then burn it and release it from myself. Then I write on another paper all the things I want in my life to be happy ( I do it in a detachment state) then burn the paper knowing I’m the co creator of the reality along with the Universe. This alone transformed my life significantly. Also, highly recommend Leo’s video on holotropic/ Shamanic breathing work.

  • @2stormento

Great technique great video leo! I know of a little cheat code that synergizes very well with this technique that I hope can help you guys when your using it. I realized I'd been using the letting go technique for a while but with a little twist that lowers the difficulty and acts as leverage for your letting go muscle, boosting its effectiveness. I have been revering to it as the "observe and love" technique even using that phrase as a mental mantra helps because after you've built muscle memory for that practice the mantra alone triggers those neural pathways and the method starts doing itself with less and less effort. Idea is very simple, begin with the letting go technique but then after you observe your attachment or resistance to letting go you consciousnessly generate whatever love your can and direct it at yourself, Love is like rocket fuel for your ability to drop resistance.
This is especially useful if like me you struggle with judgement especially self judgement, it offers a way out of the eternal judgement loop of catching yourself making judgements then proceeding to judge yourself for being judgemental, of course you cant resolve judgemental reflexes if your using your judgement muscle to fix judgment haha love obliterates this more effective then anything else. One last key note is that if you notice something inside your judging as particularly ugly and your struggling to send that little back pack of love become aware that you are not the thought or the judgement but the awareness of that. Remember your awareness just became consciousness of a unpleasant resistance filled part of your pattern so that you could begin the process of transcending it, and your first instinct is to beat the shit out of yourself for becoming aware of it, basic Pavlovs dog, your not going to be as willing to let yourself become conscious of yourself in the future. Bring those points to your awareness and with that perspective you should find your self able to sprinkle that unconditional love to start that Pavlov's dog process going in the other direction which will probably astonish you as it makes the process feel fun and that little switch bit by bit it will become effortless, its the difference of trying to work 40+ hours a week at McDonalds or at your dream job you'd do for free anyway.

I was feeling overwhelmed from the feeling of needing to clean the kitchen. I let it go. Felt a wave of calm energy and cleaned that nasty kitchen in half an hour.
I was thinking about how much I loved my dog and how grateful I am for him. I let go of THAT. I fell deeply into the present moment with an immense wave of peace.
Catching all the stories I tell myself, all my “feelings” that arise (good and bad),and I let *them* go, instantly feeling lighter and free. I take a closer look at what I actually want to invest my energy in and I find all these floating thoughts that unknowingly drain me, weigh me down, and hold me back.
This is so fun to practice and deeply fulfilling. This will be a wonderful tool for my mind-numbing depression and anxiety. Especially after watching your bit on Self Love, it really compliments well. Absolutely profound. Thank you for taking the time and energy to break it all down for us, Leo. Half of the spiritual journey. This is the mind awakening, letting go of all stories and concepts and what you 'know'.
And then there is the heart awakening, surrender to your nature as god and being a servant to the world. Surrender to being love.

When I was 16 I spilled Pepsi all over my laptop. In that moment I realized I had a choice: I could be upset about what happened and let all those negative emotions flood my mind and body; OR I could just let it go and be free of all that. In a move that surprised myself I chose to let it go. It was probably the first time I let go of something that affected me that much emotionally. It kind of shocked me that I could simply just let it go. It blew my mind that I could simply do that. It was very powerful and I ultimately ended up forgetting about the experience. Every once in a while I’d think back to it but I forgot how profound it was until Leo spoke about letting go here. Thank you for the reminder Leo, love your content

Hey Leo. I've recently done a lot of sensory deprivation therapy. Which I feel over stimulated my current ability to meditate. And there were definitely moments where thoughts/ emotions/ boredom and even tiny reactions of needing stimulation would surface.
And to me this was a huge moment where I had to understand what letting go can do. I don't know if you've ever meditated in a float tank but I guarantee you'll enjoy it.

The way I was always able to let go was to rationalize as to why I should do so. My brain would give me reasons as to why I need to let go of certain feeling or emotions and then I would proceed to do so. This is a new concept to me - letting go without even going into internal dialogue with myself as to why I should let go of something. As a very logical and rational person I actually struggle a lot with this technique - letting go for no reason (without even looking for reasons).

    • @dark-lord-vinay

I noticed in myself that I have huge control issues. I always need to be in control, and I'm always sizing other people up to how much they in control they seem to me. And when I deem them to be more in control of the situation than I am. I feel inadequate. When I deem them less in control than me I feel a sense of superiority. Of course this results of a huge rollercoaster of drama, power games, struggle and misery. I need to be aware that ultimately no one is in control of reality, not you, not me. I did not create this reality so I do not need to control it, this body/mind is just a part of it. So is everyone else. Trying to control reality is, in the long run, only going to create more chaos. More chaos means more suffering when I am clinging to control.
My need for control is probably coming from the fear of chaos. If i really want to let go of the love for control, I need to let go of the fear of chaos. I need to become aware that the distinction between chaos and control is just a judgment of the mind, and is not ultimately true. My sense of control of reality is highly subjective, personal and contextual. This sense of control is so thin, one little breeze and it will break. And reality will keep breaking it, and I will suffer. And the ego will keep looking for new pathways for control, and so the cycle will repeat itself again. The only way to break the cycle is through awareness. Be aware when the ego is looking to control things, whether it be inside or outside of me. Remember that all control is illusion, it is maya, untruthful, lies. Only God is in control.
Also, don't let others fool you into letting you think they they are in control. That they know 'the secret', that they know what's up. That they are more in control of reality through some skill or knowledge. It's all bullshit. You can listen to what they have to say, but they don't have the secret you are looking for. The only secret that exists in within yourself, and you straining to keep your eyes closed to it.
Just like the wind, the trees, the ocean and the bees. It just is. I just am, we just are. The tree is not paranoid and OCD about growing the perfect leaves. The tree is perfectly still, and if perfect leaves come, praise God. If not, better luck next time.

I've always had these problems, with judgement, with negative emotions, with the fear of the unknown. It stems from poor childhood, poor self-esteem and loneliness. Like many people, I've dealt with them alone, or my ego has, unsuccesfully of course. A few years ago I had a dark night of the soul. I'm still struggling with my ego, with 30 years of programming. After those experiences, I've started to look things differently. Sometimes falling back to my old ways. But the power of reminding yourself to "Let go, this doesn't matter, let it go." is tremendous. This video really hits the spot and gives me new tools on this path of excavating. Thank you Leo.

Example: when your lover cheats on you, you can be greatful for what you have and what you know about this person. You are grateful that you realize the truth and you can move on with your life. You can always find some gratitude for everything like your house, water, clean clothes, existence.
The gratitude of existence outweighs all suffering.
