These are hands down the best pigments I’ve tried on the market, and since this video I use tried more than 3 other companies. Need to do an updated video soon. Thanks again!
I love your videos because I can relate 😂 you don’t do everything perfect and I love that! Thanks for making these! I’ve been binging them all week lol
Hi Allen! I love your video helps me to improve my concrete pots. I think is very interesting but one thing that really catch my attention was your concrete lids. It’s awesome and I was wondering how do you custom make your lids?
I love these pigment colors! Definitely my aesthetic. Have you ever oiled or added petroleum jelly to the inside of the mold before pouring? Does it cause problems if you add the pigment powder to the dry mix?
So happy I came across this video because the jar I made last night wasn’t even in color this morning and it made me sad 😂 but then I realized that my very first one was the same but it changed in a couple of days
No but i do like to do home projects with concrete. A little bit of advice for you: if you can put some wires in the mold beforehand it’ll reinforce the concrete and make it stronger and less prone to breakage when you pull it out of the mold or if you dropped it on the floor. Secondly, I know it sounds a like a bad joke, but for like a slab, even a small one for a pathway, they use a concrete vibrator to settle the concrete and get all the bubbles out. And yes, that tool is exactly what it sounds like it is. It’s typically the same as a ladies vibrator, but it’s been repowered with a gas engine for those large pours. I’m sure if you found a reasonably powerful ladies vibrator and ran it up and down the sides of the mold it would work just fine for the candles.
Hi! The etsy store where you got your custom lid mold is no longer there. Do you by chance have any recommendations for another shop? so far, I am not finding anything.
Hi Allen. Your jars are awesome and I may be 2 yrs too late to say this, if you add the pigment to the water first and give it a good stir before adding to the cement the colour should be more even throughout the candle jar. ❤
The Etsy shop you mentioned no longer exists, would you by chance be able to share another shop similar to the lids shop you used?! Thanks so much in advance!
Hi there!! I cannot recommend any other sellers as I do not have experience ordering from anyone else on this product. I would recommend searching on Etsy for custom concrete moulds and see what you find!! Always use the reviews as a guide!
Ok, so I am at a point where I realllly need to decide which vessel I am going with. Concrete : Pros: never have to worry about supply issues. Reusable, vastly customizable in coloring Cons: scared about the shipping costs for such a heavy vessel. More labor intensive to create. Metal tins: Pros: light weight, can be reusable, uniformed in appearance, less shipping weight. Cons: possible supply chain issues, Scared of heat related mishaps cause by poor customer precautions, oils can damage metal. What are your thoughts ?
Hi Marissa! Thanks for your comment and congratulations on your business!! I think if it is an either/or for you, I would be in favor of metal tins. There are numerous suppliers who offer them (Aztec and Flaming Candle are two of my favorites and they both offer what seem to me identical silver tins for example) and you can easily outsource them from Alibaba too if you want something that is a little different. Amazon also has quite a few options I’ve had good luck using! In my experience starting with the 8 oz metal tins 4 years ago and selling thousands of candles made in these tins, I have not had a single instance or report of an instance where the tin damaged or caused danger to a surface (and on your warning label you’ll be instructing your customers to only be burning on a heat resistant surface too). I think proper wicking is the key here, and I don’t find the tins difficult to wick. They will get a bit warmer than a jar of comparable dimensions but you can just wick a size or two down and compensate for that. I love making the concrete vessels myself but it’s very time consuming and I would never do this in place of my tins. The tins are also much easier to label for me (often labels don’t stick well to the concrete I’ve found) and the 8 oz tin I think is a great size to offer and showcase your branding on the product. All in all, I think both are great options and you mention excellent pros and cons to both!! I hope my feedback helps a little too. Love and light always 💛🌱
I am new to concrete candle making and am using hydro stone. I am using direct colors pigment but my vessels keep coming out blotchy. Do you have any recommendations? Not sure if I'm adding too much or not enough of the pigment. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Julia! Thank you for your comment. I have added a link in the description box for this and I'll try to include a link too in this reply. A warm welcome to our candlemaking UA-cam family. @@earthglow For the bubbles on the letters, try spraying a bit of rubbing alcohol or alcohol from disinfectant spray just before pouring the concrete. I have a mold with a leaf pattern on the outside and spraying alcohol makes the lines perfect, no bubbles at all.
I work with Cementall and it is between grey and white...so which pigment base did you use? I have used these pigments, also, and it takes quite a bit of powder!
Hi Miss Kitty! I use the grey Cement All and the grey pigment base from Direct Colors. A warm welcome to our UA-cam candlemaking family. Love and light always 💛🌱
Hi there! Yes, technically speaking, Cement All is actually a concrete (cement plus aggregates like sand), so this would likely be a good starting place.
Hi Allen! So first off I LOVE your videos! You and your candles are beautiful! I ordered my lids from this same Etsy guy and he sent me a rough draft via email of my lid which was beautiful but it’s 4 weeks later and he never sent them to me. I paid for them as well. He has been ignoring me. I reached out to Etsy and PayPal to get a refund on still haven’t heard back. Did you have this same problem with him? How long did it take you to receive your lids?
Hi Tiana!! Oh my goodness, that is terrible!!! If I were you, I would file a Paypal case if there has not been a response after that long and you paid for them. I believe the total process for me was a few weeks but no where near 4 weeks. I hope things get sorted out soon for you!! Love and light always.
@@earthglow Yes, that is my next move. I emails both PayPal and Etsy. A claim is next for sure. I truly hope this gets resolved and i get my money back. Thank you Allen. I appreciate you responding ❤️ can’t wait for your next video!
@@tianaaviles6064 I really hope it gets resolved soon!!! I’ve had to file a PayPal case or two and generally it’s been pretty easy to do and PayPal will get you your money back. Love and light 💛🌱
Hi! There was a guy who used to sell them on Etsy but unfortunately he is no longer on there. I’m sorry that I don’t have another recommendation for you!
Hi Abigail! I have not encountered this issue but I do periodically clean my moulds with soap and water and let them dry totally before reuse. Life and light💛🌱
God I can’t wait to use this stuff on a landscaping project and see the look on the pressure washers face when he realizes that no, that’s not a kool aid stain

Dust the outside of the molds with cornstarch and it will lubricate the molds so you can roll them back
I love all of them! I know you have to work with them, but I am surprised at how the colors turned out!
Thank you 😊
I think it may be easier to mix the color powder in the dry concrete before adding water.

You should trying adding the color to the dry cement, mix well then add water etc...

can i use only white cement and mix it with water?
Very nice jars on
Thank you!
For the bubbles get a Dental Lab Vibrator. It really helps with the bubbles and not storing it to much also helps.

Wouldn’t it be easier to mix if you have smooth sided cups instead of fluted cups
It absolutely would-this is just what I had on hand at the time.
What kind of cement I use? what brand?please
