Bob my friend. I flew from the UK to Japan just to see them live. I'm a poor bloke on disability benefits. It took me over year to save every penny I could so I could go. I followed them on their Japan tour, I saw them four times in nine days in four separate cities. They played for at least two hours every time but never played the same set twice. One venue was a tiny traditional Japanese 'live house' - it held 350 people crammed in an underground basement. The fans were taking towels into the gig - for a reason. Kanami's family were squidged in with us too. I'm 57, I've been concert going since I was 13. I've seen the best. These ladies are by far the greatest live act I have ever witnessed - The Kinks are my number two just for reference. Not only the music and professionalism - they are fun. And hilariously funny, they are comedians onstage. They make you dance, they make you rock out, they make you cry and they make you laugh out loud. Yet they are extremely humble.
If they come within a thousand miles of you, get there. At all costs. They do not disappoint. They are making history.
Have you watched the video "Saiki's Bear"? Just search the title.
@@outwest1014 I remember that yeah! "My Bear"! Lol! Just watched it again. Scared the crap out of Akane, picked up by Miku then stolen by Saiki! That's the same show in Belgium I think someone handed in a gift for the ladies in a Band-Maiko bag. The band asked who it was, so they could give it back. it was a guy at the back, the crowd passed it back to him. The whole thing was really sweet.
I recently traveled from Ohio to Japan to see Nemophila at Budokan, BAND-MAID at Zepp Yokohama, and Babymetal at Yokohama Arena. I treasure each concert and can't wait to head back to Tokyo for a quick in and out to see the maids and the sisters in June.
Thank you, Po! Kobato will always do her best toward World Domination, Po! 🕊️
Pigeons will save the world! Po!
Miku's vocals were front and center!!! All Hail the Mighty Miku!
What do you get when taking 5 world class artists who are friends, enjoy playing together, and let each other shine? Band-Maid is the first answer, enjoyment for my brain is the next.
Lovebites could also be the answer. 😉
@@ChrisPage68 I'll allow it. :)
I like apples and oranges very much. :D
And they're women.
A perfect example of the Band-Maid sound. Kobato holding down the melody (musically & vocally) while Akane adds the accents to allow MISA & Mincho to do whatever they want, all the while pushing the song forward, rarely repeating. Add Saiki's vocal on top and you have a perfect Band-Maid song. I also love the use of space in this song. Just little (feels like) hesitations throughout the song that leaves you anticipating more, you never want it to stop. Thanks for your reaction. Cheers!!
I saw them live. I know this sounds overstated, but it was a life changing experience. Only one other concert experience has been like that for me, a long time ago. I stood in awe for the whole show. I knew I loved the music, but didn't expect to have that kind of experience. You MUST see them live.
😮❤
I'm taking a break from watching the dvd of this concert to watch your reaction! 😊 HATE? was the 27th song of their 33 song set and that doesn't include a 3 minute drum solo from Akane which she did as the intro to the crazy fast BLACK HOLE! Such high energy levels and utmost dedication to perfecting their live performances. They just released the very moving final song of this EPIC concert, ENDLESS STORY.
Hey Tony! Thanks man I hope this lived up to your expectations. This song was a killer and I just recorded Endless Story. Should be out soon. Man you can tell they love to play. It just makes everything even more epic.
@@bobcieslinski Your analyses are always excellent, Bob, and I always learn something. Look forward to the ENDLESS STORY reaction.
The 27th song 🤯 man o man I'd need an oxygen mask to still be playing with this much energy, what a band 👍🍻
@@brunobryant4846 They give a lot to their fans. Give it all.
@@tonygriffin_ thanks Tony!
So I was at this concert and....being there is just a completely different experience. I cried several times during the concert both from various emotional moments throughout as well as disbelief at what I was witnessing. Go see them. You will not regret it.
Wow that sounds incredible. Thanks for the info.
Was there live, my face was melted!
No, I'm not jealous! I sure am lier, but I'm not jealous!
Technical proficiency sure. But the love these women have for Rock 'n Roll. It's like a garage band but everyone is a prodigy.
There are people who can shred harder than Kanami, stronger technical singers than Saiki, etc., but what makes them stand out for me is their writing, and the joy and love that pours out of them, for the music, the fans, and each other. You really get the sense that their each other’s biggest fans.
Well said.
You haven't lived until you have seen and heard them live. I have twice now in small venues, and not only is the music great, but their interactions with the Maidiacs, especially Kobato's Omaginaitime, between songs is as, if not more, entertaining.
Man that sounds awesome. I could tell just from watching and listening to them that they are so appreciate of their fans. I love that!
Yes, you absolutely must see Band-Maid live! Until you do, you won't understand how next level they are! It's not just the music but the whole experience takes a live Band-Maid show to stratosphere levels! I've seen them four times and loved each show more than the next! I hope all of us get to see them live again, as each time is like the first time!
Another reactor mentioned, I think correctly, that the MISA/Kanami duet is likely a musical representation of an intense and building argument, building to them shouting over each other at the end. They are so smart.
It was incredible. They are beasts!
And Akane is the neighbour banging at the wall. ;)
I was about to say everyone overlooks Miku, but then you mentioned her!
She’s the glue in this one with those guitar parts.
Hey Bob. Misa always kills it, her basslines have always been one of my favorite parts. And then you get her solos, and duels with Kanami. 🤘🤘. They really go off here. The 2 song video of Dice/Hate? from 2023 Lollapalooza, Saiki stands back and basically just laughs at those 2 during that duel.
With good reason. This was crazy good. Wow! Hope you had a great day man.
The audio was good, too bad the stage director and cameraman didn't know what they were doing.
@@eatsmylifeYT
I actually liked that the camera was on Akane much more than usual.
@@powbobs Yeah, but the stage director and cameraman still didn't know what they were doing.
Thanks for the great reaction!
*BAND MAID* doing the thing 😄

As always, Great Reaction... I don't normally comment on UA-cam much because of the hate comments. But as a musician of 56 plus years, I appreciate it when someone with musical skills and possibly having studied music theory, tells it like it is. I agree with you 100%. Band-Maid is arguably the best rock band today. Band-Maids skills are beyond belief, Kanami Tono writes and composes some of the best music today. That is my opinion, I know I will get hate comments. But I wanted to tell you how great your reactions and how you discect music and music talent. Thank you again. Keep Rocking Dude 🤘🤘❤️🎼🎶
No hate here...totally agree with you. PO!🕊

@@bobcieslinski Thank you for the reply. I am a disabled musician now and I can't play keyboards anymore because of hand and arm problem. It's similar to the Keith Emerson problem that caused him to stop playing keyboards..

Hi, Bob. Great reactions and comments as always.
I've posted it in the comments section of other reactions so some of the viewers may have read it, but I'll post it here as well.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The members of BAND-MAID once said this during the MC for a concert in Japan.
The English word "HATE (phonetic symbols: héit)" is pronounced in the Romanized pronunciation as "hate (phonetic symbols: hǝte, hate)," which means "? =Question mark" in Japanese.
So they seem to enjoy pronouncing this song as "Hate (hǝte)?" in the Romanized pronunciation on purpose (tilting their head to the side), not as "HATE (héit)" in English!
So, the title of the song, "?" is just a pun that Japanese people can understand. LOL
I consider myself lucky to have seen them perform this song last summer when they were in the US. When they return, you should definitely go.
The night before Lala Pusa, they played a show at the park West in Chicago, which I went to < 13 Hours later they killed it live. They are absolutely phenomenal live rock and roll band
Yes you MUST see them live. It is unimaginable what it is like, I saw them last summer and I was unable to come back to reality for at least an hour or more. It is just unimaginable. I don't care what you have to do to be there, but be there.
Thanks Howard. Will do brother.
Still sayin’ it..For me..Kanami Tōno is the most impressive musician and composer of the 21st Century. Pure genius as a composer and true Rock n’ Roll Star on stage. She is The Special One 😍🔥❤️🤘 Magical band, maybe best liveband in history of music. Lovin Band-Maid ❤️🔥
Moin, Hamburg!
She is amazing.
Nice reaction Bob. I wonder how sore their faces were after this concert because they never stopped smiling the entire 33 song, 3.5 hour set. This was song #27 (About 3 hours in). They are absolute machines! 🥰😎
I was at this concert at Yokohama. It was 4 hours of awesome 🙂
Wow!
they've come a long way and are as good as it gets...
You could set the world atomic clock to Akane’s timing.
I've seen The Warning live 3 times now, so I know that they are fantastic live and from every live video I've seen of Band-Maid, they are insane live as well, so that will be an amazing show in Japan in June.
It sure will. Both bands may be oceans apart but they're streets ahead of all other Rock bands imo :)
ooh I'm going too! Seen Band Maid twice (best 2 concerts been to). Be 1st time seeing The Warning! ^can't wait*
This video dropped about a month ago and I cannot count how many times I have watched it. I could listen to that back and forth between Misa and Kanami on repeat all night.
It is great
Bob, as always, great reaction and comments. It's the ultimate F*Off song. What more is there to say about these ladies that hasn't already been said? They are absolute FIRE!!!!! Cheers!
Thanks Elliott! I really appreciate it. They are fire.
Misa appears to be doing so real hybrid picked lines in the middle.
You absolutely need to see them live .. Saw them three times last year and every show was amazing. The House of Blues show in Chicago vs Festival shows at Pointfest and Lollapolooza were completely different experiences. The smaller Venues are very intimate and their is a lot more direct interaction with the band and the audience ( Miku's story time and the Q&A session is a lot of fun), but everyone feeding off of the shared Adrenaline of a festival audience is magic.
Thanks for the advice and comments. I do have to see them.
Yes, you must see them live ... I have seen them live twice and that is not near enough. Great song! Thanks for the reaction.
Thanks so much. I will one day. I hope it’s soon.
Don't worry about the lyrics Bob, they weren't meant for you. 🤣

That’s pretty cool that they are friends. Both groups are amazing. I’m hoping to see both of them live someday.
you can read what happens to someone who interrupts her in the middle of a solo in the lyrics :)
By the 11th song in Detroit my hearing was already muffled. 😭 It was so worth it though! 😁
🤣not sure if you are interested but I always have a link in the description of the videos for Eargasm earplugs. I wear them to concerts. They allow me to hear everything naturally but protect my hearing. They just lower the decibels to a safer level. The music is still loud sounding so I don’t even notice the change.
I stand by my theory. Not only do the ladies' new uniforms look damn good and suit them exceptionally well, they must also have some kind of cooling solution integrated into them. There's no other explanation for me as to why you can't see any flames here. ❤🔥🤘🏻

Nice
I was standing a few feet from MISA in Sacramento when they did this song. Tiny venue, hot as hell, and one of the greatest moments I've ever experienced in 50 years of going to concerts. Thanks for checking this out.
Wow that had to be a cool concert.
Thanks for giving credit to MIku. I see far too many reactors completely ignoring her. Kanami and MISA couldn't do what they do without her holding everything together. Well, they could, but it wouldn't sound as cohesive.
Thanks so much. She so good. You can’t help but mentions her. Sometimes reactors don’t understand what each musician is really doing to make a difference in the music.
I live in Japan. Saw Band Maid ten years ago, in a small venue.. More recently in a medium size forum. They were fantastic. One of the finest live bands ever seen.
It's nice to watch and listen to musicians who know how to "play smart". It's criminal that the North American music industry still fails to embrace and support them. And thank you for yet another quality interview that facilitates the listener's understanding of just what they are hearing, how the musicians are accomplishing these applications, and why the Ladies make the decisions that they make. Yes, go see them live -- it's a life requirement! Band Maid Forever!!!!!
Thanks Bruce! They are too good. I can’t imagine what they are like in person. One day man one day.
I was lucky enough to see Band-Maid last year for the 10 years anniversary Misa smiled at me twice and Saiki pointed up to my sister in the balcony Kanami also smiled at us to and Miku is just amazing 🤩 can’t forget about our little pigeon Po! To think she never started playing rhythm guitar 🎸 now look at her if it wasn’t for Miku we would not have Band-Maid! And Akane is One of my all time favorite drummers 🥁 she wave to my sister and I when we where waiting outside near the bus was one of the best concerts I ever went to 😊🤟
Wow that’s awesome they waved and pointed to you. Pretty cool! Also cool you shared it all with your sister. They sure are amazing.
I love this girls nice reaction greetings from Germany 🎸🎸🤘👍
As the saying by Chase C. goes:
It's just Band-Maid doing Band-Maid Things!🤘
Band-Maid is a killer live band! As good as these live videos are, they can't capture their full stage presence, or the effect of the bass and drums punching you in the chest, or the crowd energy, especially if you can get a spot closer to the stage. Bucket list for sure.
Thanks Chris! It’s added. Hoping it’s sooner than later.
No, they're THE best rock band. 😁
Yes, go and see them live...even if you need to do a little bit of traveling. Totally worth it. I flew in to see their 10th Anniversary Yokohama Arena show. Wow! If you can manage it, Japan is a really great place to visit and with the yen in a weaken state, it's much more economical right now. Just saying... And the food...OMG. So good and reseasonablly priced. PO!🕊 WORLD DOMINATION!!!🤘😆🤘
Wow thanks so much for the info! A trip to Japan would check a box on the bucket list. Music Anime food the whole culture is pretty awesome.
@@bobcieslinski I noticed you like The Warning too. Band-Maid and The Warning will be doing a joint concert on 6/12/24 in Tokyo, Japan. And The Warning will be doing solo shows on 6/13/24 (Tokyo) and 6/14/24 (Osaka). So you could do two shows for sure if you can get tickets. Band-Maid also has 3 "Hall" tour concerts in Japan. In Aichi (6/28), in Osaka (7/5) and in Kanazawa (7/14). They are also doing 2 rock festivals. Osaka Gigantic Music Festival (7/21) and Rising Sun Rock Festuval in EZO (4/16 & 4/17). Multiple opportunities to see them. And you're right...the culture is wonderful to experience. And the Yen being 150+/- to the US dollar, it's like getting everything for 33% off. Don't speak Japanese...not a huge problem in the big cities like Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, etc as many speak or understand enough English to communicate well enough with tourist. And if there is a slight barrier...Google translate on your phone...and you'll get it through it. 😆 Anime...yup✅️ If our favorite spokes Pigeon was here, she would say...Do it! PO! 🕊 😂
@@BRO-rh2cr thanks again. I’m already starting to plan a trip not sure for when though.
Watching this on Livestream from 3:15am to 6:45am was a surreal experience. At times it felt like they would never stop playing. It was worth every penny and loss of sleep. I saw them in Detroit last May and it was the loudest and most exhausting concert I've been to since Van Halen in ' 82 . Go wherever and whenever you can ! Thanks again Bob for your highly relevant reactions !
Thanks Frank I appreciate the comments and kind words.
Bob, I really appreciate your in-depth reactions to Band-Maid's videos. I flew to Japan from Canada just to attend this concert. It was both mind-blowing and incredibly moving. There is nothing like being in the same room (whether it's large or small) with these five incredibly talented women. The energy exchange between them and their fans is breathtaking and far beyond what one can imagine just from watching their videos (as good as the videos are). So to your question about whether you should see them, the answer is an emphatic "yes." That said, I would encourage you to expand your notion of what's possible and "normal." Don't wait for them to schedule a gig near you. Go to them! In the past, I never would have imagined flying halfway around the world just to see a rock concert, but it was more than worth it. And I know many other fans who did the same for the Yokohama show and feel the same way.
Thanks Ross for the encouragement to go and seek them out and not wait. I’ll look into doing that. Thanks for the kind words and comments too.
Akane back there getting everyone where they need to be - one of the best descriptions of Ms Hirose going 👍🍻
Thanks!
MISA MISA MISA!!!!! MISA the QUEEN of slides Akane is NOT the unsung Hero SHE IS the unsung SUPERHERO
True David.
I saw them live 9 times over the past 18 months in the US. The closest show was 4 hours away. So that should tell you what my opinion is about seeing them live.
That makes a difference in my mind. Thanks.
Yes, you want to see them live. I've seen them several times now and as great as I know them to be, they still manage to exceed my expectations every time. See them, then see them again on the same tour if you can. They always change their setlist a little for each show. Pro tip: for their US shows, get the VIP (better yet, Ultimate VIP if they have it), get there early, hang out with the Maidiacs. We usually have a numbering system so you can safely leave the line for restroom breaks, food, etc.. Aim for the front-center if at all possible when the doors open. Some people think they want to be in front of MISA or Kanami, but trust me, you want to be in the center. It sounds much better and although they do move around, Saiki is absolutely magnetic in person. Miku will go to the center for her MCs and her vocal lead songs as well, and you will be able to see all five of them. Best band I've ever seen without exception.
Wow thank you so much for the great information. I’ll take it when I see them finally.
Yes Bob, you must see them live! Saw them last spring in Atlanta and at 61 and seeing many concerts it was probably my favorite. It was at a smaller venue and I had to stand the whole time with my bad knees and back but the music and sheer enjoyment overwhelmed all that. It didn't hurt that I was in the third line from the stage between Miku and Misa. Getting to watch Misa that close was so amazing, she is such a badass as are the other ladies. Put in on your bucket list as a must see. Peace brother!!
Wow Randy that sounds amazing! You rock for standing the whole time. Had to be awesome! Bucket list added.

@@bobcieslinski I don't expect they have a ton of time now but they're friends with several reactors and greet them in the crowd. Mr Rock and Roll is a favourite. 😂
@@stevekane4922 not sure if they would know me but that would be so cool
Currently the best live band on the planet...maybe ever!
MISA has probably the best tone in her bass of most other bassists. She also uses it to give her bass that clank and grit which makes her tone even better. Add in her almost metronome like precision and she is one of the best currently performing. Plus she is slightly down tuned for this song.
And as you mention Akane is driving this song, her double kicks coming in and out, I don't know too many other drummers who can play like her.
But you missed out on Miku backing up Kanami during the duel. She dropped out for MISA's section then came in for Kanami's second section playing octaves, then mirroring Kanami's riff leading into the main solo.
And I saw them in Houston last year and YES you NEED, NEED, NEED to see them for yourself. You will walk out with your voice gone, your shoulders hurting and your cheeks sore from smiling so much. And wondering where the time had gone. Seriously. It felt like I was hearing the entry music when suddenly I was heading out of the venue. So I want to go again, and again, and again.
Wow that really makes me want to see them. Thanks!
This is my favorite live performance of one of my least favorite Band Maid songs.
Although the A chord choice in the third measure of the chorus is incredibly interesting and unexpected.
Kanami does so much intricate guitar work here and most is buried in the mix.
On the other hand, MISA’s bass tone is as good as it gets and way out front. Her solos here are cleverly written and brilliantly executed. Did you catch her hybrid pick and pop?
Kanami and Misa having a conversation, whatever you do don't piss Saiki off 😂
😂
Can't wait for the new single on April 17th co-written and produced with "Mikey chan" Einziger from Incubus.
Oh wow that’s gonna be epic. Thanks for the heads up Steve.
@@bobcieslinski remember he co-wrote "Wake me up" (when it's all over) with Aviici. 2.3bn views - no 1 in 35 countries.
Kanami and he really hit it off. She basically never let's anyone in the studio except the band and the tech crew and is something of a martinet. But when they announced it, and the gig they're doing together in June, Kanami was calling out "Mikey!" and saiki who had been doing the "ice queen" until then cracked a smile. It seems miku really liked him too (she's written the lyrics) and was super exited in her post about it.
They met at a festival in the USA which also means MISA might have met Tal Wilkenfield as she was standing in with Incubus at the time.
He's seriously intellectual so he can keep up with the girls. He's into science and business big time. Kanami is a Tokyo business school honours grad on top of everything else.

Nice you are lucky. I envy you. Enjoy!
I can't imagine how awesome BAND-MAID x The Warning is going to be.
I wish I could see it. That would be epic.
the solo section in hate, it seems to be a man voice (misa's bass) and a woman voice (kanami's PRS) having a hate filled argument that repeats accusations between each other then gradually gets shorter and shorter where the couple are just swearing at each other then to the point where they are shouting over each other until finally the woman (kanami's guitar) is raging out a tirade of abuse.
i dont know if its projection be that is what it seems to be to me

Hate? Live is a whole new experience. Off the bat, Akane is driving the song with the upbeat tempo. To me the song is a great "hype" song that replenishes your energy. I guess that's why in the setlist it's more towards the back end of the show.
Yeah that does make sense. Good one. Thanks.
Bob, you need to respond to Pentatonix “Kiss from a Rose.”
I'd like to hear Akane, Misa and Kanami as an instrumental side-project, in the same lane as Asterism. I just think it would be an interesting experiment, which doesn't take away from what Band-Maid does.
Those three are amazing. I could see that.
Saiki was pi$$ed when she wrote the lyrics!!!
Other news The Warning & Band Maid will have a joint Concert in Japan. Many Maidiac's are hoping for a Band Maid/The Warning will have a North America tour soon. Band Maid is popular in Mexico.
This is Rolling Stone's Lallapalooza review for Band Maid.

Japanese Rockers Band-Maid Put Guitar Center Showoffs to Shame
There’s a pun to be made about how much Band-Maid ripped, but the Japanese group goes even harder than that. Fluctuating between hard rock, aughts nu-metal, and pop rock, each member of the quintet is a virtuoso in her own right with more than a decade of practice in Band-Maid alone. They lured curious onlookers into the fold when highlights like “Domination” and “Don’t You Tell Me” got huge reactions from the crowd, but it was the bass solo-versus-guitar solo duels mid-song that got the biggest cheers. This is what those guys in Guitar Center think their ridiculous riffing sounds like. Turns out it’s done best, and most effortlessly, by women in black-and-white maid dresses and frilly hair-pieces as they smile ear to ear. -N.C.
This song is a reminder that if you were ever lucky enough to date Saiki, don't blow it and piss her off or she'll roast and brutalize you with lyrics she writes. I've been writing songs since I was 9 and never hit anyone this hard. 😂
😂super cool that you wrote songs Don. What style?
@bobcieslinski well, I'm a rock and metal fan so I envision most of them in that style, though there are a lot of obvious ballads in there over the years since I'm 52 and first wrote when I was 9 ( a love song to impress a girl of course). But technically I only write lyrics so they can be in any style someone who writes music envisions them to be. I can't read, write, or play any music. My musical talent only goes as far as playing drums on the Rock Band video game. 😂 One song I wrote titled "Simpky An Angel" has had music written for it (back in 92 I believe) and a demo recorded. It's not bad but I think the music could use an update, the lyrics still hold up well.
That all sounds pretty cool man. Keep it up. You never know when that hit will happen.
Babymetal - Rondo of Nightmare with Mischiefs of God intro Budokan live (band is front and center and get to showoff, it's not your typical jpop metal Babymetal type song, it's more of a serious heavy ballad).
Thanks I’ll have to check it out.
Do gossip by masenkin
I would question your taste in music if you didn't replay all these amazing solo sections 😂
😂
Looks like Anthony Hopkins !!!
Thanks!
Bob, go back and pay more attention to Miku.
It's amazing how Band-Maid has rewritten the laws of nature: Hate brings Love! 😖--->🎀--->😍

Am I the only one earing Miku's guitar ?
Nope I heard it too. Just some nice parts underneath everything just glueing it all together.
@@bobcieslinski Yeah sorry, I commented a min before the end ;)

Another reactor commented that the Call & Response "Battle" is like Saiki arguing with the person who is the object of her hate. Go back and see if it doesn't sound like an argument. Yes, MISA is always playing Solo Bass. BAND-MAID have always relied on the Rhythm Section of Akane & MISA, two graduates from the Tokyo School of Music where they met. Of course it helps to have the backing tracks in their In-Ear Monitors. But they can't deviated from that and they've mastered it.
They are incredible. I absolutely appreciate their abilities.
Dude, pausing and breaking up the flow of the guitar and bass?
Yeah I wasn’t happy about it but I just needed to say something before I forgot. It happens. Sorry.
I would have preferred to go through the entire section first then come back to it and do the pauses and thoughts the second time through. There’s a flow there that you totally missed. Trust me, no one would have minded you going through it a second time. 😊
I always appreciate your analysis though Bob! But it’s something to consider.
@@RobinC63 thanks I appreciate the feedback.
