- This was quite a surprise.
A member of the Cincinnati Railfan group let everyone know the Amtrak Cardinal PO 50 was several hours late.
It normally comes through the area around 1 a.m.
Today, it would be through in the daytime hours.
Needless to say I had to try and catch it a few places.
A big thanks to Brent Montgomery for letting me use video he shot at Melbourne, Ky. as the train passed. - Авто та транспорт
I'm from Maysville and am actually the caretaker of the Maysville Amtrak station for the past 3 years. I've met a lot of really nice people from all over the country. Doesn't pay much but it's a cool gig. Cool video ✌️💙
Looks like a great station...I hope to visit Maysville soon.
If it's not too far, I would certainly recommend a trip to the station and a day in Maysville.
It's a quaint little town.
That's really cool Eric!
Hopefully, a little of the federal money makes its way into the station and it gets a little TLC.
Erik I'm coming in on Sun 10/30 from Louisville. See you then.
I’m originally from the next station down South Portsmouth
My god, the best view ever I seen and keep them coming. If they change to daytime train, more passengers will ride. That is my wild guess. Once again, amazing video!
Paint on the last car is beautiful.
Amazing footage! I finally got to see this in the daylight! I was pumped! Love your drone footage
Thank you so much!
I was really excited to see it in the daylight as well.
My very first tran ride began at Maysville on Easter Sunday 1984. Mom and I went to Washington for my uncle’s wedding.
I really enjoy your videos. They add a lot of information about trains and their functions through your explanation and commentary that others don't. Keep up the good work!
Thank you very much Christopher. I really do appreciate it! I'm very glad to hear you're enjoying them
These no horn zones blow my mind
I agree!
I hate no horn zones!
Very cool video from the air and ground, Plus some very nice catches.
Thank you. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it.
@@nkyrailfan Your very welcome.
Great video as always, wanted to get out and catch it but couldn't make it happen. I've also caught it at Pendery, on Easter Sunday a couple years ago. It's cooking by the time it gets there and catches you by surprise!
Thanks David, I do appreciate it.
It is a fun train to catch and you're exactly right, it is cooking when it comes by.
You are the man! Great shots and excellent editing!
Thanks Tim. I really do appreciate it.
Wonderful video, thanks for sharing. Dave
Thanks Dave, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Wow, so many great views! Excellent video!
Thank you Kevin.
I really do appreciate it.
Have a great day.
Another great video Christian. Really like the drone footage through Glendale. Nice to catch that one in the daylight, I remember taking the Cardinal to The Greenbrier and leaving Cincinnati in the middle of the night.
Thanks Terry, I really do appreciate it.
It was a very pleasant surprise to catch it.
Very cool to see it during the daylight in Maysville. My dads house is visible from your drone shot @17:00 . I spent a lot of nights sitting on those benches just waiting to catch the Cardinal stop by.
Very glad to hear you enjoyed it.
It was really cool to see it in the daylight.
@NKY Railfan Nice Catch And Video. The Eastbound Cardinal (P050) Passes Near Where I Live, Where It's An Evening Train. I Also Rode P050, Back In July Of 2018.
Thank you very much, I do appreciate it.
I hear it's a nice ride (when it's on time).
@@nkyrailfan You're Welcome, Anytime.
Very nice video, I liked all the different camera angles along with an explanation
Thank you very much.
I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it.
Have a great day!
Great video. I really appreciate the perspective of Maysville from the drone which captures the location where my railfanning days began long ago in my youth. My grandparents used to live in an apartment above Caproni's and my grandfather worked at the Maysville station for C&O.
Thanks Ray, I do appreciate it.
I love the drone over Maysville too.
That's really neat.
I bet you got to spend plenty of time watching trains.
@@nkyrailfan yo it was nice meeting you at winton place
Great video! In a few weeks I’m taking my first Cardinal ride from South Portsmouth, KY to White Sulphur Springs, WV. Have lunch at The Greenbrier then return to South Portsmouth (same day)!
That sounds like a great day trip!
I hope you enjoy it.
Make sure to come back and let me know what you thought.
Great video showing exactly why Amtrak should be disbanded, except the NE corridor. I took the Cardinal from Cincy two weeks ago. It left 1.5 hours late, horrific food, heater not working in our room, filthy windows, etc.
nice video; your drone can fly pretty fast and the sound it picks up is pretty impressive for being way up in the air!
Thank you.
The sound actually comes from my ground camera.
Because the propellers are so loud, the drone doesn't have a microphone on it.
You would be the ideal news reporter !!!
How do we know he's not? Mad drone skills aside, very pro editing and scripting happening here.
I would watch Local 12 in the morning. haha.
Great video
Thanks Rick, I do appreciate it.
Now that's a train!!! Maysville speed!!
Looks like a great train to ride.
Hey Jim,
I've actually got a video that should come out Thursday detailing the trip from Cincinnati to Baltimore from inside the train and a few shots from outside as well.
Have a great day
Those are beautiful Amfleet car shots! When I'd ride the Cardinal from Arlington VA to Montgomery WV to go to school at WV Tech I'd spend most of my time in the Amfleet lounge car. It rode well and accommodated the "coal" tracks of the New River CSX line much better than the heritage fleet passenger coach cars. The aerial drone videos are excellent. Just heard your drone is limited to 55 mph. That's incredible for a battery powered drone!
I think the viewliner sleepers are great to have as sleepers with their advanced suspension and chassis, but they are not upper body attractive like the Amfleet coaches are. Riding the viewliner roomette on the Cardinia has fairly good reviews as far a ride quality goes which is very good for "coal" tracks. The reviewer stated riding the Cardinia was for experienced Amtrak sleeper traveller that was wanting to explore the lesser traveled routes. With that said going though the New River Gorge rivaled many of the other western mountain experiences. Its a bit hard to imagine the Cardinia once on the north east corridor travels with these same cars at about 115 mph!
Watching the Cardinia go through Montgomery WV was always a bit of excitement. It also reminded me that home was at the other end of that modern train ride. It certainly made the New River gorge rail fanning seem more relevant with a modern passenger train going thought it! I never realized the Cardinia had so many elevated viaduct sections in Ohio! Though WV it is on mainline CSX tracks that were the mainline of the C&O.
It does make sense to coordinate video catches with others so you don't have to make every opportunity.
And yes, you can drive faster than 55. Just don't get caught.
And no, there is no "nostalgia" in anything Amtrak. Some of us remember The Real Thing.
It worked out well sharing the video for sure.
As for 55 mph, unfortunately I've been caught speeding on the AA more than any other highway.
Crazy how this vid was made a year ago and called d hop being a titan
I caught the Same Train outside of Glenwood Indiana.
Any idea why it was so late? Anyway, I’ve ridden the Cardinal many times even from when I was a kid in the 50’s and 60’s when steam was king. I dig the hell out of the way it creeps along that trestle into Cincinnati to the museum station. So cool.
Hey Rodney,
I believe this day it was mechanical troubles with the locomotive trying to leave Chicago.
I agree it is really cool to see the Cardinal creep over the trestle!
i love riding on amtrak anuwhere in the USA
Hey have you checked out Detroit? And it’s rail yards? Also have you heard of the DT&I with its famous concrete arches that are still up today?
I have not.
I have been looking at making a trip to Toledo when it warms up a little but that's about as far north as I'd considered.
I'll definitely look into it though.
Does anything still move in the DT&I?
I'd love to check out the arches.
@@nkyrailfan yes CN owns it now, and there's still traffic
Great chase, thank you. Drone shots brilliant especially over the river. How far can you fly without losing control?
Thank you Robert, I do appreciate it.
The drone is rated to fly several miles
In reality, it probably goes about mile.
When operating a drone you're required to keep an eye on it.
I have bright flashing lights that help me see it, but at 4,000-5,000 feet, it can get tough to keep track of.
So I would say a mile is about as far as I can go.
How does the Amtrak pass at day? Here in Indianapolis it passes at like 12 AM or 6 AM
It usually doesn't.
This train was running about 8 hours late for most of the trip due to trouble in Chicago.
Normally, it comes through Cincinnati around 3:20 am.
Whoa hold on a second a freight train is waiting for a passenger train 😳😳😳😳😳😳. I have been on Amtrak before and we were always waiting for the freight trains to go by before we could press on
GREAT flying under pressure. All those stick hours above these spots you commonly railfan, paid dividends this morning! Thank you. If you want to grow your channel (not everyone does), you may want to consider #drones somehow. Your skills and safe examples are up there with the best.
Thank you very much Randy, I really do appreciate it.
I will definitely look at adding the drone tag to the videos in the future.
I hope you have a great day.
If only we could get more runs of the Cardinal that gave daytime service to at least Cincinnati. I usually get on at Maysville because it's at slightly more tolerable times than Cincinnati.
I would love it if we could get a daytime or at least a reasonable departure time for the Cardinal.
A+
Thank you very much.
Did this train make a stop in south portsmouth, kentucky?
Hey Jackie. The train does have a scheduled stop in South Portsmouth.
It's supposed to arrive around 5:45 am.
I'm not sure what time it actually made it this day though.
Do you know where in south portsmouth it stops??
4:52 bengals stadium in the background
What bridge is that
It is the C&O Railroad Ohio River bridge.
Here is a little info on it:
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/C%26O_Railroad_Bridge
@@nkyrailfan thanks man and I also subscribed your content is amazing
Seems like it's running awfully slow??
Excellent video! Did you find out why it was late initially? i saw it left on time at Chicago Union Station, but more than 6 hours late after one stop.
Thank you Jeff, I do appreciate it.
It was initially delayed leaving Chicago due to mechanical issues.
It then had issues getting through with freight trains on the tracks as well.
I didn't mention it in the video but I saw several stopped CSX trains in the Greater Cincinnati area.
I'm guessing CSX got tired of keeping its lines clear for it.
I wish you could ride it for less than 7x a rental car.
Good video!
Amtrak is a joke. The only really dedicated Amtrak lines is The Northeast Corridor
If America is to ever have on time efficient passenger service then dedicated rail passenger lines need to be built.
If that would happen then rail passenger trains would be out of the way of freight traffic.
I know this isn’t likely to happen but Amtrak is so often very late and passengers miss connections they need to get.
I’m just saying
Thanks Johnathan.
As someone who's ridden on the northeast corridor, I agree 100%.
It needs dedicated lines if it's ever going to be competitive with driving or flying.
I would certainly enjoy it much more than driving or flying within the region.
Amtrak sucks......I'd rather drive or fly, but thanks
Great Video, and good catch.

All aboard.......LOL
Thank you very much.
