Because there are a lot of people commenting telling me that I should've used pipes to make the song longer, I started extending the song that way but I still wouldn't have been able to finish off the song even with the extra items in the sub-level. Also I didn't want a 5 second break in the song while I transitioned through the pipe, so I would've just edited it out which kinda makes it no different from just creating it in a different course.
Showed up to this video several days late (because UA-cam didn't tell me about this video lol), so here's my contribution.
[clears throat]
I've made two music levels in Super Mario Maker 2 so far!
Dog Song from Undertale:
ID: V5H-JD4-FSF
Bowser's Theme from Super Mario 64:
ID: 00C-802-MHG
Both of them use a simple door system to loop certain sections when the entity limit would otherwise be an issue.
Not a perfect solution, but one that sorta kinda works.
(I personally like the ideas in my Bowser's Theme level more, but the like/play ratio is higher on my Dog Song level, which I think means people generally like that one more, hence I listed it first.)
I would like to do something original eventually, but the simple nature of Mario Maker music means that picking songs that are familiar is more likely to make music levels resonate with people than otherwise.
Music is hard in super Mario maker. Currently trying to make one. But I have yet to finish it. If I'll be able to finish it, I'll post it, but in the mean time, I have no code for you
Adding semi-solid platforms directly above the note blocks will result in whatever you drop onto the blocks being caught, so you won't have to listen to items or enemys being destroyed with an audible "POOF."
Can you upload a video of all the parts played in all styles?
@@thinkingfubuki I'll be playing those :)
Is no one else going to point out that edit of him placing the game down and picking up the switch really fast at the beginning of the video? Very clean.
Dang you're right
wow yeah
That was my exact thought when he did that.
Literally the only reason I went to the comments was to see if I were the only one thinking that
Abiezer De Jesus he must’ve switched out the game with the switch with his other hand.

😂😂👍🏼
Yeah he can make music soon with his farts
That is why we live him
Like if levi should make music in minecraft the game using note blocks no program just the game
Why should we like your comment exactly?
Sandy Katz When the post has alot of likes, it’s more likely to be seen by Levi.
He does fortnite before Minecraft
@@themythicalfenyx1712 So sad
The Mythical Flame he’s already remixed Minecraft music. Before the fortnite I’m pretty sure.
"I'm actually a musician."
"Oh, really? What do you play"
"Well, I'm not a *traditional* musician..."
There should be a name for video game music.... minemusic? Marisic?

You can place a pipe and make the rest in a subsection, so you dont have to make seperate courses🤔
He said that the item limit was reached and I dont think you can place more items if you make a sub area. I never tried
I did try that originally, but then I figured I'd just reach the item limit after making the first 8 bars of the song, so I'd still have to split up the last 4 bars into another course.
@@LeviNiha ah, i thought the item limit gets restocked in a subsection 🤔
Yesssss
@@sirboringname u can
There's a simple solution… Please, Nintendo, Bring Back Mario Paint. XD
Imagine you can make your own songs without even making it on the stage so then I'll be added to the sound effects list and then you can place it on Mario so your music will play during the stage
The Turkey's Basement that’s exactly what I was thinking
Nintendo :
“Let’s a *no* !”
Friends: so can you play any instruments?
Me: it's complicated
Logic < FL Studio < Ableton < Super Mario Maker 2
ONE THING, one of the most important rules of mario maker is that the song parts load 4 blocks off screen, keep this in mind for the next time you do this.
Awesome video as always, Levi! I don't have any musical background myself but I always find myself enjoying your videos :)
When FL studio releases this new "Flex" plugin, you should try making a beat using only that plugin.
he flexes too much already
"Lets try fish bone"
Fish bone: dies
Me: that's depressing
Friend: What instrument do u play?
Me: Mario Maker 2
11:21 you can have 2nd part in the subworld (by going through a pipe)
there would be a pause tho, but idk
@@ducky5843 People usually do so in music levels, also the entity limit is seperate for subworlds now in case you run out so there's not really a reason not to if you make a longer song

Its great seeing a fellow New Zealander Producer!
Try making music with Org Maker 2, the second version of the music program that made the music for Cave Story. I could probably be hard for you, who are used to actual instrument samples and actually being able to make chords with the same instrument without messing with the instruments, but it could be fun.
Whats the thing to make cave story music ?
2:16 the bob-ombs sound legit like the starting note from soulja boys crank that! bruh... im dead!
Noah Frank its sound like the metal wario theme

Thank you! I love mario maker music :)
Uurrrg now I wanna hear Megalovania in mm2
There was a pretty good one in MM1
You've given me my next project, thank you.
I think most of your item limit was taken up by the stone blocks, instead of using them you should have used ground

Man trying to use the sun to make music
That’s a very very interesting chord progression! I like it! 👍 C# major with a piece in C minor! It’s very different and I think a lot of people who create music *cough cough* *mainstream pop artists* should learn from this and strain from a plain I IV V progression! Great job👍
With some more refined samples this would literally sound like a perfectly normal Phoenix Wright song
0:02 am I the only one that finds the transition between the game and the switch satisfying?
The Music Artist: hey I really like this beat how did you make it?
Producer: Super Mario Maker 2.
Please please turn this into a series!

Why would this make great legendary Pokemon music?
You could give this man a blade of grass and he would be like "man, I could make music from this."
you can put a lot music block in track to fall in a bigger track to be all alined so you can hit all the note with only one enemie, with this you can overcome the enemie limit or do music without even need a auto scroller whatsoever.
Hey Levi! Just so you know if you place a pipe and drag mario into it you can go underground and make more music! :D
YOU ALL THE TIMES MAKING MUSIC IN EVERY SINGLE SECOND AND EVEN YOU CAN'T STOP
Hey, just saying i think that you can make a warp pipe to another section, after im pretty sure you will have more space to create a larger and better song! Pls like so he can see.
Well, this is a nice little hidden gem of a channel you got, You've got a new sub mate! :D
I love this game and i love your channel now two of my favorite things are together
Levi, you make better music in mario maker than i make in a daw 😂

@@mischiefthedegenerateratto7464 who the fuck cares
You can place the note blocks on tracks at the height you want it, drop it at on piece of track and trigger an entire repeating baseline with less mushrooms than your setup. Just a recommendation.
He could make a banger by simply tapping a desk, computer, and wall.
With his fingers, nails, and fists
If you do this again, you can make a warp pipe to a sub area. This allows an additional level worth of space.
You're a madman, awesome viedo
Love your videos. Can you pls make a video where you explain some words about professionell music making? or is there a video anyone can recommend?
JOHANNES BADENES If you have specific questions those can for sure be answered but it kinda depends what kind of music you’re interested in
If you get overlap with the hard blocks sideways, delete them and just put the notes directly next to each other, they will both just go to clouds above anyway
Music as a game mechanic is so smart, every sandbox should have something like this.
I can't believe I didn't know that you could place music into Mario, all this time I've been trying to find a way to have him hit multiple triggers that aren't that spread out to keep the song going. Thanks for showing me this!

Love how Mario is just power sliding across the screen

@@radio-5 Thanks!
Since it doesn't seem like this comment is going anywhere (yet I feel like talking about what I'm about to talk about lol), I suppose I'll go ahead and spoil some future projects of mine. :P
I plan to make a music level for the minigame theme from Cadence of Hyrule and a music level for Megalovania from Undertale, and both will feature blocks to jump up into to the rhythm.
In the minigame music level, the blocks the player can hit probably be ? blocks that are optional, with the coin counter simply being a score for how many notes you got right.
In the Megalovania level, however, it will be tied to on/off blocks creating your path, meaning that hitting all the blocks will be required to finish the level (dying in seconds until you get good is a good reference to the Sans fight, I'd day).
Additionally, when you try to add accents to notes in Megalovania (accented notes are what should have blocks under them in rhythm game music levels, btw), you can get some surprisingly weird rhythms, similar to how tough to grasp Sans's patterns can be at first.
Anyway.
It'll be a while before either of those are finished, so don't expect them anytime soon.
I'm excited to make them though. :3
@@thinkingfubuki Nice! I bought the game a few days ago and made a level yesterday. I thought I had a pretty decent grasp on the basics of course-making, then I encountered this level this morning (V1K-0CX-FSF). I had no idea this was a thing, and finally I got a chance to head over to UA-cam to learn how. I plan on starting with something very simple to get the hang of it.
@@radio-5 Making music in Mario Maker definitely takes some getting used to at first. You always have to keep in mind the things playing the notes are actually enemies that have their own ways of moving around and whatnot.
Things to remember (some which this video probably made obvious already):
- You can't have two instruments play the same note at the same time, since you can't place two enemies on the same block.
- Use terrain blocks to hold in enemies when necessary, rather than other types of blocks. (I only learned about this recently, hence it's not featured in my current levels. You can place much more terrain than other kinds of blocks, which isn't obvious at first but makes sense.)
- Be prepared to problem solve or compromise, as things can get pretty cramped.
- At the end of the day, Mario has to be able to travel through the level with either no input from the player or one consistent input that you make clear in the title, description, or written in blocks. (For instance, if you want the player to run to give the song a fast tempo, communicate that to them.)
- Players should not be able to easily die in a music level, as the point of music levels is to enjoy the music.
- If you are making a rhythm game level, where players must hit on/off blocks in time to progress, you can ignore the previous point.
Anyway.
Just a random person really interested in Mario Maker music levels lol
0:35 sounds like the intro to The Nutshack
Haha! The result is surprisingly kinda nice! 👍🎧
Oml this is awesome
Damn that’s good
I remember making a track with "Mario Paint" on the Super Nintendo, even had the little mouse for it! Then recorded it into my Tascam 414 4-track, along with my red sound "Darkstar"🎹 synthesizer
This is the best ever!
Hey, you can use a sub area with a pipe, and then you can have a new part of the song in it.
greattt was looking to learn to do this haha thanx a lot bro
Thats actually really good
What a bop!
This is the only video by you where I keep hearing the same chord progression in your dialogue.
you can make pipes and continue the song in the same level but go through the pipe and the limits will reset. I've seen a lot of people do this when making music, so you can have one part of the song, go through a pipe, then the next part.
everybody who made aauto mario music run thingy: IM ALREADY A BAZILLION STEPS AHEAD
Legend says his upper lip still has never touched his bottom lip ?!??
Okay that’s awesome
Lmao this song is perfect for some themed game's menu screen
This is incredible! I wish my brain could do this.
Next one. Vertical scroll from top to bottom so some pieces can be timed out to be used more than once.
this is good bruuh. funny stuff

U could use terrain to make the stone blocks!!!
