      You definitely need copper tape! You can buy it online or from a garden centre as it’s used as snail repellent. The copper tape creates a conductive surface so that the heat can travel along your object and the solder can flow along the heat. I hope that makes sense ☺️

      Ooh, so a way around this is to use liquid flux and flux-free solder. The black pieces are the remainder of the flux inside the solder....you could also try using a paste of baking powder and water and gently scrub it over the piece with a soft-bristled toothbrush to remove the black BUT I'm not sure how successful that will be. it's hard to find copper tape where I live
    do you think I could use kitchen aluminum foil instead? 🤷🏻‍♀️

      hmm i"m not sure, you could experiment and see! A lot of gardening centers / shops will have copper tape because it is used a s a slug repellant.

    Hi!! I've just tried soldering and found I get this yellow residue that is hard to add solder on top of and won't clean off, it's kind of hard?? If you know how I could fix it let me know thank youuuu

      Hello! This happened to me too, I found I could avoid it by purchasing a flux free solder. Most solder wire has a flux core to help it flow. But finding a flux-free one and using a liquid flux on the copper tap seemed to work well.

    Does this tarnish? Or smells like metal?

    • @anyotherkingdom
      @anyotherkingdom  Рік тому

      After many years yes it will it’s just a fun project that doesn’t use expensive precious metals and you can retrieve the stones you have used quite easily

    Hi! What type of extension do you use for holding the jewellery piece as you solder? And do you know how to use images rather than stones? I’ve tried using heat resistant resin, encasing a drawing or printed image, however it melts and becomes tacky at the edges💗

    • @anyotherkingdom
      @anyotherkingdom  2 роки тому

      Hey! Thanks for getting in touch :) The piece for holding the jewellery is called a third hand - I bought mine on ebay :) and using images rather than stones...hmmm can you put something around the edge of the image that is heat retardant?

      The liquid is called flux and no need to wait for it to dry :)

    What Ga. Is your copper wire? :)

    • @anyotherkingdom

      I think I'm using 1.5mm copper wire. I'd avoid going any smaller than 1mm!

    I don't think this is jewellery soldering, this is stained glass windows soldering technique not jewellery technique I'd know.

      Thanks for your comment and you are correct. The above video is a demonstration of soft soldering, not silver or goldsmith style soldering.
