I'm extremely new and this video was very helpful. I do have one question though, I'm trying to do this on a watch of mine, but I couldn't find any tutorials online. Is the copper wire necessary? or is the copper tape enough? This is my first soldering project.
Have you painted the back of the stone mattalic silver or gold because I`m a painter and we use those paints for bleed through on cars with candy paint.
Is there a way to pour molten copper in like the cracks of a gemstone/crystal/rock while in the same process not cracking or damaging the stone further when making some jewelry or amulet?
hello, most gemstones cannot withstand temperatures of molten metal! sea glass can withstand so I suggest you go experiment and let us know what happens :)
You definitely need copper tape! You can buy it online or from a garden centre as it’s used as snail repellent. The copper tape creates a conductive surface so that the heat can travel along your object and the solder can flow along the heat. I hope that makes sense ☺️
For making the bezel around the stone, I'm using copper wire inside the copper tape. The solder wire is a non-flux cored wire that I got from amazon / ebay! And the flux is just an ordinary bottle of liquid flux also from ebay :) Hope that helps, I'm not sure exactly of the products because of purchasing them so long ago xx
The gold electroforming / plating process is much more dangerous, the chemicals contain cyanide so you need appropriate PPE and ventilation. It's not a difficult process you just need to be safe.
Hello love, Thank you so much for your video! It has seriously helped me. May I ask how you keep the spikes from breaking apart? I’m interested in making larger spikes on my jewelry but found that they’re not sturdy and are prone to breaking off.
So glad you are experimenting!! I would search for a larger head for the soldering iron so you can get more solder down at once and buy a wider gauge solder wire so again you can get the maximum amount of solder on the iron and hopefully achieve those spikes that are eluding you :)
