This is probably some of the most accessible and easy to understand look at anime compositing for a western person. I would love more videos diving into topics like this, it is beyond fascinating.
I’d love to do more! I don’t have time to make a video this week, but I’ll do more ASAP!
Iv been looking for someone who is actually down to share some of the secrets for AE for anime compositions. Im so glad i came across this. Thanks a lot bro!
No problem man! I'll be doing plenty more, so keep an eye out!
'Dong Chang' has 2 good videos on it on yt
At 38:00 I meant to say you could use a SOLID! Not a mask! Sorry for the mistake!
Jesus Damon. And at 5:40 its at the top LEFT, not RIGHT 😭🤣
Great video, I've been waiting for it haha. I've never seen a video that goes in detail this much and in real time. Huge amount of useful information. I'm looking forward to more vids in the future 😌
Thank you so much! Will do many more instructional videos just like this, so keep an eye out!
@DamonBilliot awesome. Any chance we can get a video like this, but with a short animation instead of a still frame?
@@villa_art that's the plan for the next one! though everything shown here does work on video as well/
Thank you so much, I've been waiting for this! Perfect timing for a project I'm working on right now! 🔥
I hope you find it useful! Will do more videos like this as well, so stay tuned!
@@DamonBilliot I will definitely stay tuned, keep it up!
You are a god sent..... expecting more from u.... keep up the great work
Wow, thank you!! I’ll try to do more videos soon! Been swamped with commission work so it’s difficult at the moment, but I don’t want to abandon the channel!!
Awesome breakdown. Can’t wait to see your future content around this topic. If you scripted the content and broke it into lesson, I know myself and many others would return to learn from you.
🙏🙏🙏
Thanks a lot for sharing this tutorial. Casual AE users know very little about these effects
This needs more likes
Hi sir its been 2 months since you uploaded part 1 of anime compositing pls do upload part 2 of it as soon as possible, can't wait to learn more from you.
I've uploaded 2 more videos on the topic already, and I will continue to do more. I have created a playlist that I will update as I continue to create videos! Check it out: ua-cam.com/video/Ak9Z3lGvTVk/v-deo.html&pp=gAQBiAQB
@@DamonBilliotthank you , I'll add this playlist to my playlists and can't wait to see your next video, and I'll always support you :) just keep uploading

This is so dope, thx for the tutorial. I feel like especially in indie production, compositing is such a important part to get some beautiful high quality visuals with a low budget. I see that with indie productions like Studio Heartbreak nowadays. Would love to know how you got that sub surface scattering effect in tanjiros face, in your first composition from your first video. Keep up the great work!
I use “OLM color key” to grab the two skin tones on his face! By enabling the check box that says “Replace Color”, I can set it to replace the lighter tone with pure white, and the darker tone with pure black! I then use an “OLM Blur” set to 1 or 2 to slightly blend the colors and create gray where they touch! By using a second “OLM Color Key”, I can key out the pure black and white, leaving only the grey I’ve created in the middle!
I use a “Fill” to replace the color with red, then a “Fast Box Blur” set to a low amount to blur it! Change the blend mode to “Add” or “Screen” and lower opacity till it looks good!
It’s not the only way to do this, but it’s the technique I used there! Happy compositing!

I’ve decided that visuals might be more helpful for people and made a short on it! I hope it’s helpful!
@@DamonBilliot great short! thx so much. I started learning composition after watching you stuff and I never realized how important post production is to animation. Especially for indie studios that can make their budget friendly animation look like high end stuff.
@@sezart19 it can change the quality drastically! It’s one of the LARGEST separators in quality between indie work and full-scale production in my opinion!
Hello! Thanks for giving insights about anime compositing. There aren't many videos about it. Can you explain in your next videos how to make textured lines and lineart strokes with dynamic size? This effect of handrawn lines are often used in anime, and Kimetsu No Yaiba is also drawn in such manner (which again makes it look more unique and nice). I always was wondering - does key animators draw like this. But after learning few things about compositing, i think such lines are done at this stage. Again, thanks for nice video!
I’m assuming you mean in order to imitate pen pressure? Sure man, that’s a good topic! This can be done both manually and in comp. It’s best if done by hand, but it can also be done in compositing if necessary!
ty very much sir
🙏🙏
how do I get anti-analysing stroke in adoeb animate ??
You cannot export from animate cc without anti aliasing sadly, I recommend using CSP. I have a trick to make it work, but its not efficient or useful in actual projects. Just stills like this. If I find a better method to share I will gladly do so!
I've just made a video on a trick to remove anti aliasing using After Effects! It isn't perfect, but its the best method I've found so far!
You can either click this link, or find it in the "How To Composite" playlist!

Can you make part 2 of it pls? With deep Details and understanding about compositing
There will be several more parts!
@@DamonBilliot thnx :), eagerly waiting for next part
@@DamonBilliotI'm waiting for next part Since A week , when will next part release , i hope it will release as soon as possible 😶
@@AniLearnerI am busy doing NDA work, but I will continue on this channel as soon as I am able!
Hello! How can a compositing artist get into the anime industry if I don't have a bachelor's degree and live in another country?
Mmmmm I’ll be eating this good food thank you
Lol you already know this stuff and you know it 🤣
@@DamonBilliot😂😂😂 no genuinely some of those I didn’t know could be used for a certain effect

how would i composite my animations in davinci resolve .just wondering
if my files lines already are blurred with anti aliasing, is there a way to harden the edges?
I’m working on finding a non-difficult and easy to teach method for this, but it’s taking me a while. I think I’ll need to get a custom plugin made for it, but once it’s done, I’m happy to share it!
@@DamonBilliotany idea if there’s a way to get adobe animate to export to after effects without anti-aliasing, would be a life saver, keying is near impossible

I drew my Animatio in 4k and i have a 1920x1080 Monitor, is that an issue to export my Animation before/after/while Compositing?
@@bastianmalikbuttner8475 if u have a 1080p monitor, I recommend working in 1080p. You won’t be able to see 4k resolution without a 4k display. But no, it’s not necessarily an issue, you can still render it in 4k
It will render much slower though
@@DamonBilliot my pc is expect from the monitor good enough, but if i export my animation From ClipStudioPaint as a image sequence (PNG) in a 5840x4160 solution (without Anti aliasing) it gets antialiasing as soon its exported, that makes it difficult for the compositing
Which Software are u using?
Adobe After Effects!
@@DamonBilliot one more question do we have to Draw Effects in every frame or we can animate them??
@@AniLearner i animate them before bringing them into After Effects!
I use after Effects to manipulate the already made drawings by giving them glows and gradients and other effects
@@DamonBilliot yep I mean do u have to do grediant and glow in each and every frame or you can manipulate same effect according to scene?
The name of computer software please
Adobe After Effects!
