I started with this one too. I always thought it was lame that it was so quickly dismissed over the graphics, when it has great gameplay, neat stages, and a million characters.
Some conclusions here. So canonically Kyo's team did infact win the tournament and fought Antonov and Verse (Shun'ei would have probably fought it but it seemed he and Verse derived from the same power source so it seemed he was overwhelmed by the power struggle) after Verse was destroyed it sent multiple spirits of previous villains and other individuals around the earth including: Team Orochi (Yashiro, Shermie and Chris) Rugal Bernstein Krizalid Ash Crimson And Orochi Kyo and Iori got word from Chizuru where Orochi's spirit was and they resealed him and Kukri was found to have been working for Betty cause she felt Ash's spirit in Verse and needed his help to recover him.
Oh right also Antonov faced multiple lawsuits for all the damage Verse caused which resulted in him losing alot of money and the kof brand he bought with it.
I guess Max ended up understanding why Sakurai personally recomended KOF 95 despite not being one of the KOFs everyone talks about (KOF 98, 2002 and the newer ones). It's surprisingly solid for how old the game is.
This game really doesn't look as bad as I remember it looking when I had it. Maybe the reason it just doesn't hold up is because of how good XIII looked before it.
Truth be told, I never really was interested in KoF until Max started doing KoF XIV videos several years back and fought against an Athena. Now KoF is my favorite fighting game series. Thanks Max!
I actually really liked Sylvie and Xanadu, maybe i just like weird characters but i thought she was a fun twist to the "idol" character and Xanadu is just so fucking weird that i can't help but love him Antonov was also a great addition, thinking about it now. Great roster all around.
I thought "wow, some mysterious figure didn't sponsor this to do evil shit this time around!" And then beating the Penultimate Boss to see all hell break loose really seals it and they fucked up that tv! Again!
This game's visuals are rougher than Cactus S3x, but dang does it play well. Glad that KOF XV can finally put the series back in the spotlight it deserves.
@@monstersinthecity What part was he wrong about? The visuals do look like late ps2 era/early ps3 graphics. The gameplay is snappy and the Max mode made some crazy looking combos fun to do. KoF XV is taking SNK names back into major prominence and it will likely be talked about for a while until the next fighting game gets announced.
Max commentary Is legendary. I wish he fights the AI with challenge rather than blowing by it like he really did something. I want to see him challenge himself more often miss the boss rages
*Trivia* KOF XIV doesn't use Unreal Engine 4 Instead, SNK decided to make their own engine (that was Oda's idea) That's why the game looked really bad when it came... Thankfully, a patch improved the graphics and now KOF XIV looks alright
I really agree with Max on the comparative of the KOFs and some Capcom fighters. I'd say KoF13 is like Third Strike. And I'm one of the few people on this planet who actually likes KoF 2000...
Just finished the vid finally. I gotta say, the game hits different once you've seen how far the series has come along. I like that Antonov is like the first boss to not have some ulterior motive for hosting the tournament. I really hope Xanadu returns on a DLC team with Chang and Choi so Kim can come back possibly with his kids from Garou on their own DLC team.
I like this game so much that I was able to get the platinum trophy. It took me 4 long months back in 2017, though. Max knows his stuff, the stream was very entertaining.
For me this game is like SF4, but the characters are not so ugly xD it's so stupid that some say that this game is graphically ugly but they love SF4, anyway, the point is that after almost believing that the saga would not return, because SNK was dedicated to pachinkos, suddenly it came back and it wasn't with a demo like KOF XII, it was with a fairly complete game.
Looking at XV and then looking back at this makes you realize how ugly most of the characters were. I would love if Max did a "Rate the Glow Up" or something.
Considering that Max has liked plenty of new characters from playing them in this legacy, and liking Chris in XV, I'd love to see him try tons of characters in XV to see if he finds an unexpected attraction to someone new. Seeing him discover new things with new characters gives me a sense of joy.
At 38:42 Kukri states “Inside that” is he talking about Dolores here? Was she dead, only to be resurrected after verse defeat? We know those two share a connection, hinting at her before her true introduction.
@@KuroNoTenno Nope, it's not. The "thing" Kukri saw inside Verse was actually Ash, and in his team's ending he even informed Elisabeth about it once Ash was released from Verse's body.

@@sebastiandelvillarmontoya1447 Yep. I like how Shun is still l rookie and he didn't win the tournament in his debut. I personally prefer his DLC costume over his default costume in XIV
XIV was a good game to kickstart the third coming of SNK, after 5 years of nothing but pachinko & slot games. While the newcomers were either hit (Luong, Antonov) or miss (Sylvie & Zarina) overall they left a rather positive impression except for a select few. While I get why some would dislike the pachislot girls I find Terry’s Sakura to be underrated and discount Jam isn’t too bad either. Love Heart, on the other hand... Her kit is just underwhelming leaves way too much to be desired. Good riddance to her.

I started with this one too. I always thought it was lame that it was so quickly dismissed over the graphics, when it has great gameplay, neat stages, and a million characters.
OMG
The editor used the arcade version opening intro for the intro for the legacy video! This is awesome! Good to see rock here ✌🏼
They created this engine exclusively for their games, while coming back from bankrupcy. Considering that, this was an excellent job...
I love how comically massive Antonov is
As befitting a Siberian bear.
Congratulations on completing this legacy. It's a great gift to kof community!
I loved this legacy!! But, still want see max playing old kof more, with others teams and doods too
And actually practice combos this time!
I know the graphics are pretty dated but I always admire KOFXIV for the great new cast of characters they introduced like Sylvie, Kukri, and Antonov.
4 more mins for KOF 15! Cant wait to play
Some conclusions here.
So canonically Kyo's team did infact win the tournament and fought Antonov and Verse (Shun'ei would have probably fought it but it seemed he and Verse derived from the same power source so it seemed he was overwhelmed by the power struggle) after Verse was destroyed it sent multiple spirits of previous villains and other individuals around the earth including:
Team Orochi (Yashiro, Shermie and Chris)
Rugal Bernstein
Krizalid
Ash Crimson
And Orochi
Kyo and Iori got word from Chizuru where Orochi's spirit was and they resealed him and Kukri was found to have been working for Betty cause she felt Ash's spirit in Verse and needed his help to recover him.
Oh right also Antonov faced multiple lawsuits for all the damage Verse caused which resulted in him losing alot of money and the kof brand he bought with it.
Some other characters that were released from Verse were Gaidel (Leona's father), Rashojin Mizuki (boss of Samsho 2)
I guess Max ended up understanding why Sakurai personally recomended KOF 95 despite not being one of the KOFs everyone talks about (KOF 98, 2002 and the newer ones).
It's surprisingly solid for how old the game is.
Sakurai did say something about 98 I can't remember
@@tanusrichandra6286He said that he recommends 98 if you want to play a KOF game with more advanced and strategic gameplay.
This game really doesn't look as bad as I remember it looking when I had it. Maybe the reason it just doesn't hold up is because of how good XIII looked before it.
It got a big update The improve the colors and the graphics and shadowing
@@kevingrullon2796 You are right.
Before that patch KOF XIV looked awful
Truth be told, I never really was interested in KoF until Max started doing KoF XIV videos several years back and fought against an Athena. Now KoF is my favorite fighting game series. Thanks Max!
Max's face when Angel parried and gave him The Rock's peoples elbow! 😂🤣
Benimaru's shoulders must be so sore from carrying this entire legacy series on his back
I actually really liked Sylvie and Xanadu, maybe i just like weird characters but i thought she was a fun twist to the "idol" character and Xanadu is just so fucking weird that i can't help but love him
Antonov was also a great addition, thinking about it now. Great roster all around.
I thought "wow, some mysterious figure didn't sponsor this to do evil shit this time around!" And then beating the Penultimate Boss to see all hell break loose really seals it
and they fucked up that tv! Again!
I loved the story in this. Antonov is hilarious.
I love the amusing fact that when Alice screw kicks upwards, after she lands she gets dizzy XD
This game's visuals are rougher than Cactus S3x, but dang does it play well. Glad that KOF XV can finally put the series back in the spotlight it deserves.
You're free to be wrong online.
RIP Sylvie, she's in heaven with the US Sports team 😢🙏
She's back, baby!
Sylvie is so cool when you know her story
I like how team Japan is just so used to fighting evil gods and bosses that they aren't even surprised anymore they just do the job 🤣
Max commentary Is legendary. I wish he fights the AI with challenge rather than blowing by it like he really did something. I want to see him challenge himself more often miss the boss rages
Loved the character roster in that game
60+ fighters to play and i always ended up with iori and some randoms😂
The Galactica phantom never gets old how ever many times I see it.
26:46 those weren't Pachinko coins. Those were quarters that had been given to the cabinet for Fatal Fury 30 years ago
*Trivia*
KOF XIV doesn't use Unreal Engine 4
Instead, SNK decided to make their own engine (that was Oda's idea)
That's why the game looked really bad when it came...
Thankfully, a patch improved the graphics and now KOF XIV looks alright
I heard it's because it would take too long for them to get used to Unreal 4.
Antonov's assistant guy looks like anime Leisure Suit Larry.
Funny enough, they way you talk about the kof series at the end, is the same way Sakurai talks about it
I really agree with Max on the comparative of the KOFs and some Capcom fighters.
I'd say KoF13 is like Third Strike.
And I'm one of the few people on this planet who actually likes KoF 2000...
KOF 2000 is one of my favorites for the gameplay and strikers, next to '95 and '98
You're not alone I love Kof 2000 as well.
Weirdly it was the KoF on the Neo Geo Pocket color that got me into KoF.
For me it was KOF 1995 on a Playstation demo disc.
It all comes full circle Japan team
Still a very fun KOF game still frustrating that people like to hate it for the graphics because underneat that is very fun fighting game
Couldn't afford the deluxe edition of xv so I'll have to play this to avoid the impatience for Thursday consuming me and driving me insane.
What else? Benimaru, baby! Now on kof xv, he takes major protagonism, Even more than Ever.
Good lord the graphics from this to XV are night and day.
Looking at XV and then looking back at this makes you realize how ugly most of the characters were. I would love if Max did a "Rate the Glow Up" or something.
I would love this
Kof XIV has two difficulties, excruciating hard and idle characters waiting for you to attack
Considering that Max has liked plenty of new characters from playing them in this legacy, and liking Chris in XV, I'd love to see him try tons of characters in XV to see if he finds an unexpected attraction to someone new. Seeing him discover new things with new characters gives me a sense of joy.
The song is really good, can't wait to start my journey with the new game
King of Dinosaurs was low key awesome in this game. He was one of, if not my best
This was also my first KOF, the demo that is. I then got 13 a little later.
At 38:42 Kukri states “Inside that” is he talking about Dolores here? Was she dead, only to be resurrected after verse defeat? We know those two share a connection, hinting at her before her true introduction.
Nope, he was talking about Ash since that's the only reason why he joined KoF tournament in the first place.
Yes, he was also talking about Dolores, who was dead for a very long time. Their relationship was elaborated upon in Team Ash's backstory.
@@KuroNoTenno Nope, it's not. The "thing" Kukri saw inside Verse was actually Ash, and in his team's ending he even informed Elisabeth about it once Ash was released from Verse's body.
@@ShinOrochi Kukri was hired by Elizabeth to get Ash back, and Kukri gets to bring Dolores back from the dead.
@@KuroNoTenno Unless I missed something, I'm pretty sure Dolores' revival had nothing to do with Kukri, considering the guy doesn't even aware at her being revived until shortly before XV (According to his XV's team story, at least).
From yesterday’s RATE THE SUPER, to the last playthrough before the new game!! I still remember the EVO MOMENT of this game, the Goro Super Counter Comeback! The Graphics are, odd, but still a fun game!!
You're thinking of the first build friendo this looks leagues better than before. The textures look like a slightly lower fidelity than sf v! Just sick of this argument. Kof 14 will be the third strike of kof where it will have a revival online if it gains legacy rollback netcode in the future
I personally like XIV
The roster is much better than XIII and although the new characters were somewhat difficult to get used to in the end I opened my heart to some of them.
Mui Mui, Sylvie, Zarina, Luong, Nelson, Xanadu, Najd, Antonov, Kukri, Love Heart and Mian became my favorites.
I don't hate Shun, my only complain would be his awful/horrible design.
I'm agree with you, especially in the Shun'ei part, it's really good to have KOF protagonist who is not an asshole
@@sebastiandelvillarmontoya1447 Yep.
I like how Shun is still l rookie and he didn't win the tournament in his debut.
I personally prefer his DLC costume over his default costume in XIV
there is a manga series based off kof 14 its called kof a new beginning its just a more detailed version of the game's story mode.
Man, Dood started owning a lot like Kyo.
Graphics for the characters aside, the gameplay, roster, and soundtrack to this game are fantastic! I even like some of the particle effects and background from a visual standpoint too.
The only KOF game that I play the least. Kof 15 is gonna be a banger.
The graphics aren’t that bad, but it could have been better for that time. I’m watching the Super Bowl too, and rooting for my Bengals to win their first ring! 🐯👊🏾🎙 🎮
You'd think Max would have played Rock's story segment with his team
Uh no rock isn't canon in 14 and he doesn't have a team. He plays this legacy using the official canonical main teams
28:43
"Rob Zombie over here"
Seeing as they were already kind enough to confirm my boy Yamazaki as DLC, I hope they'll do the same for my girl Love Heart in XV. I had a ton of fun playing her in XIV and she was super unique compared to everyone else design wise.
Unless SNK regained the right for Love Heart, she will never appaear in any SNK games again.
Love Heart is in legal limbo I'm afraid. SNK sold her rights to another company and said company went bankrupt back in 2009.
@@ShinOrochi except they've used her in other games since and basically revived another character in an even more precarious situation.
@@KingKP96 I'm pretty sure all the games she appears in was done long before SNK lost Sky Love's IP so your argument doesn't work here.
Also, K9999's situation is totally different from Love Heart.
I'm happy to hear he loves KOF XI, the tag system was really refined there, that mode should come back as an option.
It's just me but before Max changes the difficulty back to level 1 it's more exciting to watch.
Be cool if goro show up with the belt lol
For a second I thought you where going to skip this as you already rated the supers.
Can someone give me a quick rundown on Love? Snk doesn't own her? Wasn't she in SNK Heroines?
Yes.
SNK no longer owns her and Mui Mui :(
At least they were playable in SNK Heroines
@@meganinten0078 NOOOO NOT MUI MUI she was one of my mains FUCK
@@meganinten0078 I just looked her up, she's from their Pachinko machines from Playmore which sucks because I thought SNK owned everything again but I guess they couldn't work a deal with Playmore
@@Arcademan09 Mui Mui was also my main in XIV and SNK Heroines.
I was hoping to see her and Kensou as teammates in KOF XV
@@Arcademan09 Playmore is SNK dude, they just don't have the playmore in the name anymore.
Love Heart was sold to some random company that was shut down years ago.
So sad snk sold the love heart rights, where she in 15 I could make my own pirate team with jenet and the girl from samsho being her teammates
Yeah...
Love Heart and Mui Mui were my favorites in KOF XIV and SNK Heroines.
It is a shame SNK no longer owns them 😢
I wanted to see Mui Mui and Kensou as teammates
@@meganinten0078 Woah, Mui Mui and Kensou team would have been an amazing way to explore the Dragon Spirit story line. Wow I never thought of that, awesome idea!
@@meganinten0078 Man, you just blew my mind with that idea, bao would also have to be in that team, since he's related to the dragon spirit as well
12:05 Terry just went full wake up punish level 5🐱
There's a smash symbol in the first cutscene when the camera backs up and you can see the whole field. Its upside down.
A minute of silence for *Mui Mui* and *Love Heart*
SNK sold their IPs 😢
F for Dragon Gal and Sky Pirate.
At least they were playable in SNK Heroines.
The Another World Team is my favorite in XIV
*Magical Sky* is such an amazing track! 🎵
It woulda been really cool to see Love Heart square up with Ruby Heart in CVS3! Something so cool about sky pirates! lol.
@@dragons_hook I agree with you.
@@meganinten0078 Muimui vs Chun-li woulda been cool too. Battle of the hair buns
@@dragons_hook Yeah!
Legs vs fist!
Fun fact about Mui Mui.
In her series, Dragon Gal, she can transform into her adult form.
Too bad they didn't put that transformation in her gameplay in KOF XIV
Someday we will know what rating Xanadu got.
Max is not gonna tell us isn't he, I guess it's time to do some peer pressuring on streams.
Hey are you still going to do the king of fighters maximum impact and king of fighters 2006???
Doesn't look like it
I feel you pain...
I do like the Maximum Impact games.
Those games deserve more love.
Too bad Max decided to play only mainline titles.
Kim - "Arkansas!"
"Oregano ketchup!" _Kyo Kusenagi
Hey it’s that game people sadly ignored for ugly graphics… wait where have I heard that before
Honestly I just forgot the game existed
Same thing happened with fighting layer ex. Game is completely dead yet people claim they love the game
There are games that have bad graphics . And then there are games that forget its the 2010s and 2020s
People shit on it too much for not being XIII. And people forget that this is pretty much one of SNK's first game after *SECOND* bankruptcy.
Similar case with Marvel VS Capcom Infinite
Despite not looking that great, the gameplay is really fun
37:57 and from the swirling phantasm descended a man shaped inferno who posed a single question...
"Are you a Gaaawwd?"
KOF XIV alone was the reason why I bought myself a PS4 back in 2016!
40:28 My favorite part! 😅
We made it boys! Next stop is XV!
This game had sooooo many new characters. 95% of which I bet we will never see again.
If I have to pick ten least favorite characters from KOF series, at least three of them should be in 14.
I always like KoF XIV. There is a lot of charm to it. KoF as a whole is such an amazing series of games. I'm glad we are still getting them after all the shit SNK has been through. To lose this series to the sands of time would be a damn shame. On the upside KoF XV is a lot of fun as well.
