Characters’ Climaxes that benefited in XV: Kyo: Our boy finally got the badass Climax he deserves. Easily one of the coolest looking ones in the game. The one in XIV isn’t bad but a steep downgrade compared to the ones he gotten in XIII. Iori: Despite being based off from his Without Flames moveset in XIII, it’s very brief and short lived. XV’s is *french kisses*. Perfectly captures the unstable nature of the Yagami clan. Terry: Not only it’s easier to land but looks far more powerful and impactful. Even uses the star emblem better too. It properly captures this badass wolf. Dinosaur: Tiz-, I mean, Dinosaur’s in XIV was overshadowed by his Super, which looks more like a Climax than his actual Climax. XV, however, gave him one that’s actually on par or even better. Mai: Mainly because of that flaming finish. I feel that was missing in XIV and is simply flashy. Meitenkun: Similar problem to Iori’s in XIV but even worse. You blink and you miss it. XV did a far better job at representing his hidden power, especially with the final attack. Props for the unique pose at the end of it. Joe: I can’t describe it but his tornadoes look “thicker” and “more fierce” in comparison to XIV’s. Characters’ Climaxes that benefited in XIV: Shun’ei: Personally, I prefer his XV Climax since he fuses the fists with his own but I can see most people preferring XIV’s own. Leona: I feel that the red aesthetic of her Leona Blade feels more fitting than cyan. Especially since she’s using a little of the Riot of Blood during the attack. Heidern: Same reasons with Leona. It simply fits his assassination techniques better with how painful they look. Overall, as many people have pointed out before, XV is a major upgrade over XIV graphic-wise and that seems to carry with its characters too. They simply look more lively and vibrant thanks to the bright colors and better designs giving our favorite SNK characters new life! Thanks you so much for making such a video, YOYODODO. Just like the last video, it was probably time consuming but the efforts are greatly appreciated!
Yeah, few of them could do with some more touches: - Shun'ei should get some more distance and impact effect after the last punch - Leona should get a blue outlined red-blade, to show control over Orochi - Heidern should get brief red tint during burst - Vanessa should have the the teleport shortened in length of time, to sell impact of the speed - Mary needs something more "stronger" for the end of her typhoon throw Few other adjustments could be made. But otherwise, pretty good.
The design difference between Kyo on xiv and xv is enormous, the xiv version doesn't even look like a Japanese guy and the jacket full of pockets is just weird
Still like his 2D designs better, but its an upgrade compared to XIV indeed. Tho it looks decent they still haven't mastered his hair imo, and I don't like the XIV neutral pose they copy-pasted for this game as well.
Bit of a hot take: Ralf and Ramon's were better in 14. In 15 Ralf's expression is less intense plus the fade to white happens well before the punch. For Ramon 15 lacks the speed lines as he's running to sell how fast he's going.
Yeah besides the victim's expression before the final punch, Ralf's climax in 14 was better in every other way unfortunately. The wide eye and dilated pupil as well as the black background in the aftermath really does wonders for it.
Even though most supers were reused, massive props for the voice actors redubbing every single line and grunt for this game. Companies usually keep old battle grunts to save time and money like Tekken or Soul Calibur but this is so much dedication.
Okay, I may rate them then. 1.- Kyo (XIV): it's not bad. The cameraworks and the ultra combo super itself are decent with quite impacts in each punch. The hitbox is bad tho. However, Tomoaki Maeno did a great job here as Kyo's new VA. 7/10 - Kyo (XV): this super is a major upgrade from the previous one. I like they brought back Kyo's projectile as its starter hitbox which gives more range and advantage than the previous one. The super itself is superb with a huge flame pilar and Kusanagi's clan crest is there while Kyo's doing it. The sound effect is also greater than in XIV which gives the super more impactful. Also, Maeno-san always does a great job voicing Kyo. 9.5/10 2. - Iori (XIV): this is a great super, even though it's just one hit. The build-up, the red background effect, the claw sound effect and even Iori's new VA (forgot his name) voice acting are superb. The advantages themselves give it more impactful as a result. I know it's the same super like his in XIII but I think this one is more impactful. The only flaw here is its mid-range hitbox tho. 8/10 - Iori (XV): Everything about this super is perfect. Iori's voice acting, the hitbox, his shit-talking "eat this flame!!" while mixed-up with Orochi's voice, his evil scream while burning his opponent on the ground and even the purple flame effects are perfect. 10/10 3. Benimaru (XIV & XV): it's the same lame super. It's just lightning laser with no impact at all, even in the new game. At least, the hitbox range is great tho but it still sucks. 3/10 4. K' (XIV & XV): it's the same super with different fire effect and starter pose. I think XIV is the better one since K's starter pose and black-background is better than in XV (7/10). Meanwhile, even though the fire effect is better in XV, his starter pose and no blackened background makes it much less impactful than in the previous game which means it's unfortunate the super is worse in the new game than in the older one (5/10). 5. Maxima (XIV & XV): it's the same laser climax with blast in the end of it. However, the big difference between both supers is of course the laser effects. I think I prefer the laser effect in XIV. In my mind, laser effect is better in blue (8/10). Meanwhile, I don't know how I feel about its effect in XV. Sure, It looks quite cool but its shaped more like a green liquid compared to XIV's blue beam which looks closest to a laser imo. Its green liquid laser effect always reminds me of my toothpaste lol 😂 (7/10). Both supers has quite good impact with that blast and pose in the end tho. 6. Whip (XIV and XV): it's the same super for both games. I like this super since it's cool to see Whip swaying around before kicking her opponent and tossing them down with funny expressions on their faces. Nothing changes much besides the better graphics in XV. 8/10 To be continued...
I think this comparison kind of proves to me that XV has largely better animations but the visual effects in XIV looked better. Or at least they were better tuned to the overall style of XIV, while the effects in XV look slightly out-of-place in the new style and lack clarity. The only animation in XV that doesn't look right is Shun'ei. It's animated well, but it makes no sense at all. He's literally punching the character away from himself in the first hit so they should already be traveling in the same direction as his own force with no wind resistance, but when he lands the second punch it pushes him back anyway? It's like he's made of paper.
He says この炎で送ってやろう kono honoo de okutte yarou Literally meaning "this flame will send you" but can be interpreted as "I'll send you to hell with my flames"
I miss how in classic KOF games, the opponent receiving the specials would do a back flip and land on their heads… I really wish they brought that back

It's clear XV elevated most of the re-used Climaxes here, but for some notable exceptions, I prefer Benimaru and K's Climax in XIV. The former actually calls lightning from his finger tips and has better particle effects while in XV, it looks like a glorified Raikouken. The latter is because of the darkened background and the quotes on startup and end where he says his iconic catchphrase "Doitsumo Koitsumo".
The common thing I notice besides the effects is that the climax intros in KOF XV is a lot snappier in many places despite it being the same in the end. Another thing is that the sounds felt more impactful in XV. I dunno if it's just user volume or if it actually was tweaked to sound stronger, but I was able to feel the damage more in the XV version than XIV version As a bit of bonus... Ramon's intro has a very subtle change : his backflip before start-up. Had to rewind a bit.
Well flame effects are a bit messy in XV, looks like SNK still need to work on that, but character model and facial animations look better for the most part (with the exception of Vanessa, who I feel look a bit better in KOF XIV). We do have to keep in mind XIV is made with SNK's own in-house engine, while XV is made with Unreal Engine 4 to update the visuals to be more pleasant, at least according to wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_King_of_Fighters_XV#Development

2022 game still looked like it should be a game from 2012. And yes I know it’s an improvement from KoF XIV, but that’s becuase XiV literally has ps2 graphics
They are not doing justice to Athena... the best was Athena 98, she was simply THE BOSS. Her atomic attack was both super strong attack and almost an impenetrable defense, you could even gather the atoms and shoot to the enemy for an extra damage as well, something they took from her in KOF VX. Her Fenix Arrow was also superb, even if the enemy was defending, they still took quite a bit of damage. Her repellant round attack was excellent defense as well. Bring back her powers !!!!
KOF15 surpasses KOF14 by a long shot! I don't even want to think about KOF14 after playing KOF15. Especially with the bigger roster including characters from GAROU and SamSho. My favorite KOF game of them all. I just wish they would have gave Ryo his original moveset. He had many moves. They limited his options. I can't main him in this game. I have other mains though. I wish I could have KOF15 on the Switch.
If they wanna go the easy way and re-use old supers and climaxes, 'coz not willing to take risk and time for new stuff, I think SNK should just make a survey among fans and ask them which is their favorite one for each character. This way, they could be sure to please, not disappoint them. It could go the same for outfits, or simply which version of the character they prefer among all the games; looks, animation, poses, special moves...all criterias must be studied to understand what made a character so great in both charisma and gameplay and loved by fans.
I think a lot of the characters that got some tweks or overhaul on their climax were the one who have some popularity behind them, not all of them but some Terry, Athena, Kyo, Iori and Mai are prime examples of this As for sleepy boy and Spectro kid they are being push to be the new protags, so yea that was in a way to be expected
I do not understand why they keep playing with regressing Kyo back to his 'generic Shotoclone character' mechanics. Removing most of the technique from KoF was an odd enough choice, but understandable given the wider base they were trying to reach. Kyo plays different from most any other character in the genre, certainly any other popular one. Making him "Ryu AGAIN, but the projectiles travel along the ground" is a catastrophic disservice.
It's weird. It looks both good and bad at different times. I like that it has the heat wave effect (noticeable in K' climax at 1:01), but also doesn't look as realistic as KOF 14 at times. KOF 14's lingering flames on character's body looks a bit more realistic

O clímax do K, por exemplo, no 15 o fogo sai mais atrás dele, só um pouco na frente, sendo que era para ser 360 graus como no 14. O Especial do óculos no 15, tem muito frame cortado. A textura do fogo e da lama da Dolores, tem brilho, oque deixou esquisito. (15)Quando a Blue Mary tá girando o adversário, fica batendo em algo ali na lateral. (15) Além do furacão do Joe ter uma camada extra que não faz sentido, o adversário tá com o corpo 90% fora.

They just copied all the models to a new engine with minor upgrades. Don't even compare it to the 12 to 13 upgrade. 13 was released only one year after 12 and this version took them more than 5 damn years. Please at least fix Yuki's tongue in the climax!!! The life bar is the worst looking of all time.
SNK does lazy work, they should have hired some fans, they would've been able to make more decent stuff for us. I'm sure all alternative outfits are also gonna be fan mods for this game. SNK how dare they talked so big about shattering expectations with such level of work on animation and game content.
It's almost like the company went bankrupt from their stupid decisions in the past, and only recently recovered back in 2016. You gotta cut them a bit of slack for trying to save time and money. Besides, the last time they hired a fan was for Maximum Impact, and that blew up spectacularly in their face, so I'm sure their hesitant on that front.
@superiorgamedude I'm talking harsh because I do think they got the time and money to add more stuff into the game, they just decided to spent it on useless stuff like a stupid kof destiny movie that nobody cares about, more than 1 hour of CGI movie all dubed with a shitty cliché scenerio. All that CGI work could have been used for kof XV story mode instead, but now we're limited to the classic endings with static images, no intro no dubs, and meanwhile they are still adding new stuff to animate their kof all stars characters and even creating kof dating games for girls?? And what's more stupid SNK tells us the main team has left now and is working on another project, putting XV as a leftover product with a leftover small portion of stuff members. I don't consider fans expectations so high, in fact, alternative outfit and new climax for all characters for instance, is basic to any current fighting game with 3D models. But for SNK its the Climax of expectation shattering.

xv has higher speed & better graphic (espeical hair graphic)than xiv, however xv less characters, waiting for DLC upgrade

They are not doing justice to Athena... the best was Athena 98, she was simply THE BOSS.
Her atomic attack was both super strong attack and almost an impenetrable defense, you could even gather the atoms and shoot to the enemy for an extra damage as well, something they took from her in KOF VX. Her Fenix Arrow was also superb, even if the enemy was defending, they still took quite a bit of damage. Her repellant round attack was excellent defense as well.
Bring back her powers !!!!
KOF15 surpasses KOF14 by a long shot! I don't even want to think about KOF14 after playing KOF15. Especially with the bigger roster including characters from GAROU and SamSho. My favorite KOF game of them all. I just wish they would have gave Ryo his original moveset. He had many moves. They limited his options. I can't main him in this game. I have other mains though. I wish I could have KOF15 on the Switch.

Was hoping they’d make Athena less cringe inducing. But it’s just worse than 14 somehow.
If they wanna go the easy way and re-use old supers and climaxes, 'coz not willing to take risk and time for new stuff, I think SNK should just make a survey among fans and ask them which is their favorite one for each character. This way, they could be sure to please, not disappoint them. It could go the same for outfits, or simply which version of the character they prefer among all the games; looks, animation, poses, special moves...all criterias must be studied to understand what made a character so great in both charisma and gameplay and loved by fans.

Terry, Athena, Kyo, Iori and Mai are prime examples of this
As for sleepy boy and Spectro kid they are being push to be the new protags, so yea that was in a way to be expected

I do not understand why they keep playing with regressing Kyo back to his 'generic Shotoclone character' mechanics. Removing most of the technique from KoF was an odd enough choice, but understandable given the wider base they were trying to reach. Kyo plays different from most any other character in the genre, certainly any other popular one. Making him "Ryu AGAIN, but the projectiles travel along the ground" is a catastrophic disservice.

It's weird. It looks both good and bad at different times. I like that it has the heat wave effect (noticeable in K' climax at 1:01), but also doesn't look as realistic as KOF 14 at times. KOF 14's lingering flames on character's body looks a bit more realistic

O clímax do K, por exemplo, no 15 o fogo sai mais atrás dele, só um pouco na frente, sendo que era para ser 360 graus como no 14. O Especial do óculos no 15, tem muito frame cortado. A textura do fogo e da lama da Dolores, tem brilho, oque deixou esquisito. (15)Quando a Blue Mary tá girando o adversário, fica batendo em algo ali na lateral.
(15) Além do furacão do Joe ter uma camada extra que não faz sentido, o adversário tá com o corpo 90% fora.

14 is much better, the characters and arenas are much nicer, 15 all the squalor and cheap 3d immediately catches the eye

They just copied all the models to a new engine with minor upgrades.
Don't even compare it to the 12 to 13 upgrade. 13 was released only one year after 12 and this version took them more than 5 damn years. Please at least fix Yuki's tongue in the climax!!!

SNK does lazy work, they should have hired some fans, they would've been able to make more decent stuff for us. I'm sure all alternative outfits are also gonna be fan mods for this game. SNK how dare they talked so big about shattering expectations with such level of work on animation and game content.
It's almost like the company went bankrupt from their stupid decisions in the past, and only recently recovered back in 2016. You gotta cut them a bit of slack for trying to save time and money. Besides, the last time they hired a fan was for Maximum Impact, and that blew up spectacularly in their face, so I'm sure their hesitant on that front.
@superiorgamedude I'm talking harsh because I do think they got the time and money to add more stuff into the game, they just decided to spent it on useless stuff like a stupid kof destiny movie that nobody cares about, more than 1 hour of CGI movie all dubed with a shitty cliché scenerio. All that CGI work could have been used for kof XV story mode instead, but now we're limited to the classic endings with static images, no intro no dubs, and meanwhile they are still adding new stuff to animate their kof all stars characters and even creating kof dating games for girls?? And what's more stupid SNK tells us the main team has left now and is working on another project, putting XV as a leftover product with a leftover small portion of stuff members. I don't consider fans expectations so high, in fact, alternative outfit and new climax for all characters for instance, is basic to any current fighting game with 3D models. But for SNK its the Climax of expectation shattering.
