  • This simple breath concept has huge implications for tactical performance. While it does not replace regular breath training or deeper principles, it does offer a quick bio hack , for lack of a better term, to access natural survival overrides during a crisis and is worth considering routine implementation into our self-defense training protocols.

As always, brilliant stuff. I find it fascinating that you seem to publish videos at the same time I am working on similar subjects. I am helping a colleague write a curriculum where we are discussing performance under stress, citing a lot of David Grossman's research, and some recently discovered Condor Performance, that has good stuff too. Subject matter is why we train the way we train, using meditation, breathing, and other sport / police / combat focus increasing drills for optimal performance. I like the "Square Breath" but haven't seen anything published using that term. Wondering where you found that, I would be very interested in reading. Currently I'm citing Yerkes Dodson, OODA Loop, Cooper Color Codes, Counterfactual Thinking.... which all ties in to being able to breathe and remain in the metal state for best performance under stress and overcoming that stress to continually better ourselves. Again, Thank you for all your work and insight. I am a big fan.

That sounds amazing. I strongly recommend you check out Mike Malpass”s book Taming the Serpent and his sequel Fall Seven, Rise Eight. They are treasure troves of research for that topic .

Is yawning related to sighing? because i sigh a lot and yawn a lot and other than being a tiny bit anxious maybe I like the fact that its apparently not a problem

Yes definitely. The research I’ve read said that early on they weren’t sure of the purpose for either. Earliest theories were that it was a cultural communicator intended to indicate to the rest of the tribe that it was time to sleep so the collective would live in a similar rest cycle but now it seems apparent that this may be a secondary function and the primary function seems to be a respiratory reset. Basically sighing is a more common reset but yawning is a stronger variation that manifests when fatigued or as you noted when you’re more anxious. Since I’ve learned this I’m astounded by how often people sigh and I had never noticed .
