Pressure washer motor won't start
how to fix pressure washer motor not starting
BurbBilly, my Homelite 2700 pressure washer had no pressure this spring. I noticed dripping underneath and replaced the thermal release valve. That fixed the drips but still no pressure. I found your video. Followed your instructions and now the pressure washer works great! Since it was out of warranty, you saved me a bunch of time and money.
Thanks,
Bill
Thought id give this a try on the pressure washer I own before replacing the pump or purchasing a new washer. This saved me some cash. Washer works great now! Thanks for the tip and taking the time to pass this info along.
Mike
Thanks for taking the time to document this..... I fixed my power washer all on my own...... with the help of this video.
I literally was on amazon and was about to click the buy button to purchase a new pump when I thought I’d look on UA-cam as someone must have posted something about this issue. I saw your video... went outside, did just what you said and viola... pump pressure is back like a charm!!! Thanks a million. Now I can take the family out for dinner with that 100 bucked you saved me!
I have an almost new Troy Bilt Pressure Washer. I had no pressure. I thought it was the pump. You saved me a lot of time and maybe $100.00. Thank You Sir for all you do. Michael G. Altman Laporte, In.
+Michael G. Altman You're very welcome Michael! It's comments like yours that make me feel I'm on the right track with this. I'm glad the video helped you out.
BurbBilly
Michael G. Altman Bravo my friend saved me money!
Michael G. Altman same thing with my Troy-Bilt brand new
This video was great! Thank you Billy. My homelike pressure washer was low on pressure and I did exactly as you described in the video and it fixed my issue (including going right for the screw driver). Not sure if it would work with other pressure washers, but for my Homelite, it was the fix!! Thank you for taking the time to video how to fix!
Got mine out today for the first time since last year and no pressure. Everywhere I looked I was told if it doesn't have pressure, you need a new pump ($100) or to rebuild it. Then I found your video. Took me 10 minutes to fix it. Thanks!!
holy crap ...I watched a dozen videos thinking I have to rebuild my carb or do some major pump rebuild..I did this and cleaned the filter to my water inlet and it worked perfectly...awesome
Thanks for the tip !. I think I have the same problem, own same pressure washer for 2 years so far.. kept it in my shed during the winter. Will work on it this weekend. Hope that's the problem.
Thank you sir! As a female perspective, you gave excellent instructions. I did everything you said including the screw driver. I didn’t get the part out , but I cleaned everything and as a last resort, tapped on the part you pushed on the concrete. It worked and I was able to get all my power washing completed! So thank you! Very much!!!!!❤️
You're the BEST Burbbilly! I have the same Homelite pressure washer but it is several years older than your brothers so the unloader valve was a little tougher to get out. Once I got it out the problem was exactly as you described and I just smacked the pin on the end and now it works great. Thank you thank you thank you.
I was about to throw a hissy fit and you helped me get my pressure washer working in under 5 minutes. You sir, are a gift to the world. Thank you so much.
You're welcome!
UNBELIEVABLE!! the local fix it place (very reputable) said $400 to repair. your video and 10 minutes later,...DONE! and working. Thank you so so much :)
I second the free beer. My Homelite sat in the garage for over 3 years. After replacing the carb (the engine wouldn't run until I did), I had the same problem with no pressure. Did this fix in 5 mins (the screwdriver pry was very easy) and now its running like new again. Thank you!
You're welcome Neil
Thanks, Burb Billy. Right to the point and much more informative than the other sites I sifted through.
Billy You rock, You diagnosed my problem and shared with me how to fix exactly as you shared! Thanks Dude!
wow !!!! so happy I seen this post. I thought I'd have to take it to the shop.....but no after seeing this I was running my washer 10 minutes later. thank you !!!!
You are the man! I was just about to haul the washer up to the repair shop, and came across your video. THANKS!!!
Thanks, Burbbilly you are the man, I was about to purchase the unloader valve and then you came to the rescue. Keep it up!
Thanks Burb Billy! I spent a half hour cursing at my pressure washer before I found this. 5 minutes later I was back in business.
+TheEviljon You're welcome Jon, happy deck cleaning.
You are the boss! Thanks for the quick fix! My homelite pressure washer decided not to work this year, wife said 'leave it at the curb' after I tried a few things scratching my head. Watched your video, 10 mins later it's purring like a tiger. She lives to see another season!
I didn't take mine out and it worked to fix it by working the pin while still installed. Free pressure washer someone gave away. Thanks man.
I had the same issue, and, after watching your great video... The pressure was back... Thank you for making this video and saving all of us time, a headache and some hard earned money... Subscribed...
Thanks for a great video. Just another tip. My Homelite was stored in my outdoor shed, but it didn't lose pressure all at once. I guess cause it is because we have pretty mild winters. Sometimes it had low pressure and the next time I go to use it, it was OK. So I guess this valve can stick once in a while. Either way I pulled it out, gave it a clean, worked the piston back and forth and "voila" it now works every time. And the screw driver trick is gold. Thanks Billy!
March 2019...watched this video & repaired my pressure washer....thank you
Well done. I have the same pressure washer and that suggestion worked perfectly. Done in less than 10 minutes as you said. Thanks!
DUDE. That was perfect. Thank you. You saved me a ton of time and money.
You diagnosed exactly the problem I was having. Thank you for posting this.
Thanks, I did that and it worked! Even though I have a Troy Bilt, I found the valve and followed your advice Thanks again!
Thanks for this video. My Simonize pressure washer quit working today [Saturday]. The motor worked fine so I thought is was the pump. I went into town to look for a replacement pump and found a match for $169. But they were out of stock so I went back home thinking of another supplier which was closed today but open on Monday. I then checked UA-cam to see how much of a job it would be to install a new pump. I then found your video and guess what? It was my unloader valve that had seized. You saved me some money and I owe you a great thank-you.
Very cool! Thanks for posting this, it's good to hear when my videos help people out. Lets me know I'm on the right track with the channel. Have a great Memorial Day Weekend! BB
I was about to buy a new pump when I came across your video. Your instructions helped a lot a saved me time and money. Thank you for doing this...
Jean R. Westlake, oh.
You're welcome Jean. Glad it helped you out. btw you're just up the road from me. I'm a few miles west of you near the lake.
Great tip-works perfectly now. Saved a Bennie too! Thank you.
Well I want to add my thanks for your video too. I was ready to leave my Troy-Bilt pressure washer for the trash truck to pick it up but followed your instructions and it worked like a charm. Thank you Billy!
Literally just fixed mine thanks to this video.
Appreciate the upload. Works like new again, actually better than I can remember. Cleaned out everything with WD-40 while I was at it.
Thanks for posting this, Bill. It really helps when you have support like this when you're trying to get one of these units to work. Mine is like new, I bought it from someone who gave up on it after using it a few times. They probably spent $250 or so, and got to use it once or twice. They let it sit around and then I bought it without the hose and gun for $10. When I tried to start it it felt like the valves were messed up, but it turned out they were fine. It has the Briggs & Stratton "Professional 7.75" motor. They probably got more for the hose and gun than I paid for the motor and pump. Oh well.
+Marc Bachman You're welcome Marc
I had the same issue with my Homelite 2700... called the tech line and told them I ran Purple Power through it once in 3 years, earlier that day. The tech said I destroyed the seals and would need a new pump. Went to Home Depot where I bought it and they don’t even sell Homelite anymore. Soaked the pump in CLR and searched UA-cam. Your video came up and I tried it! Success! Thanks for doing this video, it saved me $75 and a lot of time!
Good to hear! Appreciate the comment/feedback
Thank you so much. Mine was doing the same as yours. After watching your tutorial I got mine back running again.
Thank you very much. I had just picked up my pressure washer from someone that I let borrow it for 4 days and I know it worked before I took it to them but when I picked it up, the pump would not kick on al all. I was no happy. But now that I know it was just the value stuck, I'm a happy man again thank you. Time for a cold beer.
Man! I just watched your video and I did exactly what you did and my pressure washer works again!!!!! You saved me a ton of money!!! Thank you!!!!!!!
This was the fix for my low pressure. Thanks a million. It only takes a few minutes to complete.
Great Job i will keep this video in mind when i repair a lot of my power washing machines that broke down last year...
Thank you man for sharing
+Christopher Katz You're welcome Christopher, good to hear it'll help you out. Thanks for the post
Thank You. My pressure washer motor ran no pressure. I pulled the pimp apart twice. and checked every thing. One valve needed resetting. I was considering buying a new washer. Fixed the thing you said and all is well. Thanks.
Thank you so much! I had taken the whole pump apart on my Homelite and couldn't find anything wrong. I was about to order a new pump today until I saw this today and tried it. Took me less then 5 minutes and was running perfectly.
+Chris Tatgenhorst Chris, you're very welcome. Comments like this make me feel good about my channel. It's nice to know you helped someone out so thanks for that.
Thanks for posting this video. My pressure washer has been kept outside in a rubbermaid shed and I took it out today to do some work with it. No high pressure! Your video was a HUGE help. After following your instructions, it's working just fine!
You're welcome Felix. I'm glad to hear it helped you out, appreciate the post
Thank you thank you thank you!!! Our machine is slightly different - the retaining clip is exposed, but same process (great advice for removing the valve!).Works like a charm now!
Burb Billy,
Nice job. Took 5 minutes to fix and I am now up and running. Thanks for the tip
I got the same machine & same problem
Gonna try this tomorrow
Thanks 4 showing how 2 fix
@@mgomez5606 ya it did
Fantastic advice! I have a craftsman which is similar in design. Worked like a charm! So glad I found your video before looking for repair service.
Thanks! Saved me tearing the whole pump apart . Literally took me 5 mins to fix. Thanks again!
Thanks Billy your information, it saved me $90 on a new pump. Also, my unit is almost 10 years and the pressure had dropped some last year so I fixed the frozen check valve as in your video and cranked down the pressure spring and... waaalaa mucho buncho pressure........ AGAIN THANKS...
You rock! Last year I used this unit once, put it away for the winter and today needed to use it. Engine runs but no pressure. So I put it away thinking it was defeat and was about to go to Costco and but a new one. I decided at the last second to check UA-cam and found your video. Thank you! Easy to follow and bang on correct! You rock and you made me feel manly as I fixed my own problem! Thanks!!
haha! You're welcome James, appreciate the post and the laugh :-)
While my pressure washer is brand new, I love learning more about small engines, etc. This is just another trick up my sleeve to diagnose an issue! Thanks!
You're welcome
I watched your video and with the information you shared I was able to fix my power washer. Thank you! You're a good man!
Great easy fix 99% of people would never know about...thank you
Hey - Thanks so much for this. I had the same problem with my washer, a Suburu EA190V, also from Costco - and the unloader valve was identical. Interestingly my valve wasn't seized up. It popped in and out without issue. Before I put it back in I turned the water on and let some run through now open valve housing. I then put it back together but the water wouldn't come through. I took a chance and started the machine up. There was about a 15 second hesitation and the water started. Works great.
Thanks for the video. Bought the same unit last year. Went to pressure wash the house today and was so mad when I realized that the pump wasn't working. Got even madder thinking about the time it would take to fix it. Then I found your video and the house looks great now!
MrAustincross You're welcome! I'm glad it helped you out.
That worked awesome, got back from riding, bike was mudded up good ,went for the Power washing naturally not working pulled the pin out Walla done deal perfect working condition thank you
You're welcome Matt, I'm glad the video helped you
You are my new hero! I had that exact problem with that exact model, and I needed to pressure wash my house's vinyl siding. I was freaking out until I thought of checking UA-cam. 10 minutes later I was blasting away! Thank you, Sir!
+Waldo LaTowsky You're welcome Waldo. Thanks for the kind comment, made me smile. :-)
Worked like a charm, thank you!
You are officially my hero for the day! Needed to wash the deck and had low pressure, found your video and my problem was fixed!! Worst part was putting the retaining pin back in but one it was in, good as new.
lol I'm glad it helped you out
This fix works! The instructions are perfect. 10 minutes instead of an expensive and time consuming pump replacement. Well done!
Thanks Chris, appreciate the feedback/kind words
Thanks Burb Billy! I had the same problem and was about to buy a new pump but found your video ... and it worked! Rather than store the power washer out of the cold next winter, I'm going to remove the unloader valve and store that inside. Thanks again!
You're welcome Robert, I'm really glad to hear it helped you out.
Awesome fix. Exactly my problem and fixed in 5 minutes. Thanks.
Awesome video! I got one of these for free that was practically brand-new. Did this and it works like a charm. Thank you Sir!!!
Just pulled my actuator out and it was frozen! Can’t wait to try it out tomorrow. It’s 9 o’clock at night and pouring rain out… Not a good time to test it. Thank you
Thanks for this. I thought my old (but infrequently used) pressure washer had blown an entire pump assembly. Sticky unloader valve was the problem.
You are a life saver. After many days of frustration trying to fix a borrowed pressure washer, I found your video. My boyfriend watched it and had the washer fixed in under 10 minutes. There was much rejoicing.
Wendy Geisen Aww thats an great post! Thanks for sharing!
we let it set and low and behold the washer would not work again. Run but no pressure. I decided to check out some videos on the subject and this was the first one. I tried what billy said wouldn't you know that was the problem. Thks a bunch. Runs like a champ again. The valve was stuck.
Glad it helped you out Steve
Thank you!!! Power washer works perfectly now. This was exactly my issue... For all those tackling this, it takes some doing popping the valve out, I started with a screw driver and got nowhere until I tapped the sides of the valve with a hammer and that seemed to unfreeze it from the housing.... bottom line, keep prying on it and it will pop out.The only thing holding it in is friction. I unfroze the pin and it was as good as new. Great video.
Thanks Daminal, good info
i was about to order a new pressure wash pump !! mine broke about two years ago after I left it in the shed during the winter months! I will be trying this out right now before I even order a new one! thanks
Thank you, this worked perfectly for me. Could have been looking for a new machine if it wasn't for this post.
Thanks for the video my pressure washer has been sitting for 5 years I did this it works perfect again.
You are my hero today! This perfectly explains my pressure washer being intermittent. Fixed up and running great! Thank you!
You're welcome! Thanks for the post/kind words
Thank you for the video. I actually kept watching because you left in the struggle. That kept it real. I have not tried the fix yet but I have issues and I have never even heard of what was under that ole rubber cap. LOL. I will update.
Just wanted to let you know the video was great and worked, Really like your easy going common sense approach. Thanks for sharing with the rest of us.
Great video and did this trick on a powerstroke 2200 pw and now I have pressure, thanks for the time you did this.
THANKS!! My Homelite 2700 was in my shed all winter and even though I used pump protector, I still had no hose pressure. I will give your suggestion a try and hopefully save myself from buying a new pump. Next winter I'll be storing my pressure washer inside.
You're welcome. I store mine in an attached garage and it went through the winter fine. Maybe pulling out the valve at the end of winter, cleaning in up and then reinstalling it in the spring will work for you. It's not a big deal to pull it. If it's not stuck. My brother had to do his the other day and he told me it was a bear getting it out, had to use two screwdrivers and wiggle it loose.
Hey, I just wanted to say thanks. I was ready to go buy a new machine and I followed your directions and my units working like a charm. Have a nice Memorial Day.
Thanks Billy, Did the trick! I was ready to buy a new pump.
Thanks for the video. Saved me a couple hundred bucks. Only thing that I would add is that you beware when removing the unloader . Mine came shooting out like a rocket when I pried on it !
Worked like a champ. Good thing I found your video first....I was ready to buy a whole new psi unit. Thanks again
You are welcome Sir!
ua-cam.com/video/Wt8iL228yRE/v-deo.html
Dude! Thanks for a simple video and explanation of this. This is exactly what our problem was on our Husqvarna. Thumbs up!
BRO! I think this is exactly my problem! Thanks a million! I'll take her apart tomorrow and let ya know!
Thanks a lot guy! Now I'll fix mine! Fyi these engines can be tipped on their side with the oil spout down with no harm.
Your video gave me a 5 minute fix to the same issue...brilliant!
Thank you for taking the time. It saved me hours/days.....Honda GCV Blackmax 2800 psi. identical.
lisa maassen Thank you for posting Lisa. It's good to hear when one of my videos is helping out the way this one is. I didn't expect the amount of feedback I've been getting on this. Apparently this is a huge problem with pressure washers of all makes/models.
I have the exact same model washer and had the exact same issue. Followed this video and fixed it in less than 10 minutes. Thanks for a great tip!
You're welcome Stephen
Had low pressure issue with my pressure washer, I was able to fix and get it back up and running again, without having to buy any parts! Thanks to this guy's video tutorial... Thanks again :-)
You're welcome Michael. I'm glad you found it useful. Thanks for the post
Great tip. Thank you for taking the time to show us and making it so simple. Thanks.
Santiago Ruiz You're welcome Santiago. Thanks for being a viewer!
Same machine and same problem, and it's only a year old. Was wracking my brain... Figured that bottom piece (unloader) was the culprit, but the manuals don't mention it anywhere, of course.
Your video explained everything perfectly, and the steps were very easy to follow. Got it apart, freed up the stuck pin, and back together in 5 minutes (The screwdriver method was absolutely the way to go).
Great video - you saved me countless hours looking for my warranty information, waiting for customer service, and repair hell. Thank you!!
Damion Blake You're welcome and thank you for posting. If you haven't already take a look at some of my other videos. Lots of DIY tips and tricks there.
great to see someone helping out the home owners, I work on pressure washers and small equiptment to make a living, and it's almost always the unloader. either it's stuck, rusty, or the spring is broken. occasionally the pumps puke, but that's normally from either being run with bad/no oil in the pump or being over heated by letting it idle for two long
too long. not two.....
+Nathan Hansen Appreciate the post Nathan. Sounds like you know your way around these types of tools. If you're ok with it can I reach out to you with some questions from time to time? If so just shoot me an email at mytwocentsonthings@gmail.com I'll keep your contact info saved there if I need it.
What if it it pumps one minute then stops them pumps then stops??
Fixed my pressure washer thanks to you man, great video thank you thank you!!!
Awesome. That fixed it. Most of these videos want you to replace the whole pump. Thank you!
This worked beautifully...took me 5 minutes. Thnx for taking the time to make this video!
Very good, I will have to try that, I just washed the house about 2weehs ago put Irún the barn. Got it out hooked it all up everything works except for the pump would not work so will try what u said.
Thank you for the tip on the unloader valve. took the pump apart and THEN I watched your video. guess I should wtched the video first. Now I need to put the whole thing back together...hope it works.
+Gary Hamilton If you havn't put it back together yet shoot a video of you doing it and post it on youtube, i'm sure you're not the first guy to do that. lol let me know if you get it fixed
Thanks Billy, it worked like a charm. The only problem I ran into was getting the unloader valve out. The screwdriver trick didn't work. I ended up attaching vice grips to the outta nut and banging on the vice grips. That finally freed it.
It's good to hear you got it working appreciate the post
Great video. I was ready to buy a new pump or ditch this pressure washer, but this was a super simple fix.
I had trouble getting the rubber boot off, so had to use pliers which marred it a bit, other then that it went perfectly. Thanks!
+Larry Schwerzler You're welcome!
Thank you for this video. This fixed the pressure washer half way through the project.
I have the same issue, thanks for making this video!
