I am extremely petty. I would have told my mother "Why don't you explain to 9-year-old about the doll you bought her and then returned?" And then when she got angry I would say "Or we can discuss the $600 bag that I bought you, but returned per your advice not to spoil too much"
I have two kids that have helped me with housework since they were little. It started out as "copying mom", but I didn't discourage it since they were learning important life skills. So, how is getting my kids what they want for Xmas spoiling them?
Also it's like maybe 6 presents?! Sheet I know some kids who get twice as much as that! I always thought at least 6 or more was a decent amount(yes I'm including presents from outside immediate family)! And MIL is acting like she's being given at least 15 gifts 🙄😒 SMH
My daughter was born on Christmas day. I had a relative who commented about how many gifts my daughter received. I reminded the person that it was not only Christmas, but also her birthday, and I thought she deserved an actual birthday like everyone else. People need to mind their own business because they do not always know all the facts or understand the situation.
I have the same situation with my son. I was very worried about this when he was born, so after speaking to multiple families about how they handled the Christmas/Birthday for their holiday babies…I chose to celebrate his birthday on the same day in January. This way he got Christmas and his birthday independently. On his actual birthday day in December (23rd) we took him to dinner at the restaurant of his choice in order to acknowledge the day. Anyhoo…me doing his birthday differently ENRAGED my MIL who then tried to ruin it every single year until she finally passed away. She was a horrible person anyway.
@@diydame7163Sorry that happened! Happy birthday to your son, and you keep guarding that bit hay like a momma bear! Some people are just going to be jerks no matter what.
My niece and my friend's baby too! For my niece, several years we celebrated her birthday in the summer and just treated Christmas as Christmas. The other years we procrastinated and definitely did it during the holidays and it was hectic! Her little sisters would be confused why she got so many 'extra' gifts for Christmas and we explained it was her birthday too - So that was another consideration of why we did it separately when she was younger.
thats a good way to do it.. im born on christmas and i recieved one present in the morning and the rest in the evening but i always got the same amount as everybody else on christmas, so if my brother got 10 dollars for his birthday and 10 for christmas i just got 10 from relatives😅😅
My son’s bday is December 23 and I’ve had family members get mad bc I don’t allow combined presents bc he deserves a bday and Christmas. You got my daughter a gift for her bday and one for Christmas so you need to do the same for my son. Case closed. Get over it.
My grandma is even worse with the Christmas cards 😂. She does all of what was described here PLUS she has a tier list of how expensive/nice the cards are and ranks the people she is sending to accordingly 🤣 There is always some kind of "Christmas card drama" every year and I'm only now realising that this is not normal
She wouldn't like my cards... I get the cheapest box I can find & I'll use any leftovers for next year too 😂 most people just throw them away after Christmas anyways
I suspect it is quite common. My card sending got later and later during several years of financial difficulty (waiting for the $ to buy cards and stamps) Reciprocal cards became fewer every year, until the last time I sent any, they posted just before Valentines day. (Pls don't judge). Don't even bother any more. The relief is wonderful.
@@thisbushnell2012 I used to do Christmas cards back when we were first married in early 2000s…. After we had kids, I did it for a while we had two. Once we had 3+ kids and I realize how stupid all of it is to just send the cards in a digital age … I gave up doing it at the bees of my mother-in-law and other older people. We would usually send them a letter about what’s going on with us or let my mother-in-law know what was going on that year so she could add it to her letter in the cards she sent. I think my mother-in-law gave up on sending Christmas cards about five years ago . I understand the idea behind it and the tradition, but I’d rather keep more personal traditions for the holidays than the need to spend a lot of money sending cards to people who haven’t even bothered to talk to me in the past year and who haven’t even so much texted me to see how we’ve been doing . Definitely email or text merry Christmas to my friends and family … but that short and sweet and personal and you don’t have trash to throw out afterwards.
My dad's side of the family, we have a tradition of making increasingly ugly cards for each other. My mom's side has a similar expensive card tier of importance
I love the father's strategy, but I'm deeply concerned the wife sided with the MIL. Did she not know what was going on? If she did, this is NOT ok and a big 🚩 of deeper issues in that marriage.
It's such a weird projection. Who steals kids' presents than thinks themselves a good person? I was raised that grandparents get to spoil kids instead of raising them.
@@ellencox8415 You have to remember that this is the woman that raised the wife. To the wife, this is "normal" and it often takes being completely removed from toxic influence before one can realize how toxic it is.
@@catstreat9434 she was removed from the toxic relationship when she took her marriage vows. You cling to your husband. He is the leader of the family ship and as his wife, you have earned the position of advisor. To blatantly side with the MIL in front of her husband is BANANAS. You live with your husband... not your mother.
I once gave my ex a beautiful anniversary card, it had a beautiful sentiment and kind of wordy. He looked at for about 2 seconds, so I know he didn't read it. I hadn't sealed the envelope, just tucked it in. I gave him that same card for five years, until we split. He never even noticed. Lol
FIVE YEARS?!?!?! Honey, you're too beautiful of a soul to have wasted your time on that level of disrespect, but good job having it only be five years instead of a lifetime.
Or the noise making presents! I have given my favorite kid (not mine, I don't have those) a really whizz bangy piano! It can be played 'acoustically' BUT it also plugs in for a microphone and added volume. Drum kit, yes, yes I did. Anything my darling wants; if I can, I will. Not really a fan of her mom.😂😂😂😂
On the twelve days of Christmas, Charlotte gave to me! Twelve Reddit A Holes, Eleven awkward break-ups, Ten greedy liars, Nine crazy ex’s, Eight ruined dresses, Seven bad proposals, Six gold diggers, Five bridezilas!! Four crappy weddings, Three toxic in-laws, Two cheating spouses, And a petty Christmas night!
Kids remember every broken promise. I remember when I was little, my favorite older cousin made all kinds of promises that she never kept. As an adult, I realize what she said was said to appease her baby cousins so they'd leave her alone, but I still remember her as an unreliable promise breaker. Don't make promises you don't intend to keep
Saaame. My dad was like this growing up, and I never forgot it. He’s been dead for almost a decade and I still think about it sometimes and get pissed on behalf of my child self
Same… I was promised many things that never happened.. I got good grades, trips never happened.. as a small kid I didn’t get the doll house I wanted (not even a fancy one and my dad promised to make one)… I cut those people out of my life after I no longer lived with them
Mine pretends I don’t even exist when I’m around and complains about me when I’m not around, just depends on the families 😅 My grandpa always spoils me though! Fun lunch dates and lots of awesome stories!
I was taught as a kid (and have taught my kids this too), that you can WISH for ANYTHING, you just can't expect to GET it. So no wish was off limit (and it still isn't), and I would usually get something that was on my wishlist, but I could/would/will not expect it. Some things just isn't realistic, but that doesn't mean you can't WISH for it.
Bro he treated his daughter because she has gone above and beyond to be an excellent person and daughter without being asked. It's not spoiling her if she is clearly a wonderful little lady! Leave the poor girl along and be proud of her gosh darnit!
@@tigco1121 yeah, send her a Christmas card instead... saying: "We're not visiting this year, because, you know, we wouldn't want you to get used to always getting what you want!"
The ho ho ho sweater is hilarious lmao! But she should have printed his face on the back with a Santa hat so he could be on there along with his naughty, messy elves 🤣🤣🤣
There is a difference between learning that the world is cruel and being cruel to someone on purpose for the reason of "teaching a lesson". All you teach is that you are the cruel one, a person that cannot be trusted (the broken promise), and that you are not worth having in my life. This is how family member reach the "no contact" list.
My mother once bought my daughter a gift for no special occasion, but not my son who was also shopping with her at the time. He was devastated and cried all the way home (he was 8). When I called her on it, she said she was teaching him that life isn't fair. I pointed out that he would certainly learn that without her help and that it wasn't her job as a grandmother. My son is 50 and still remembers and talks about that day. He laughs, but I think it still hurts.
That's so mean. My mother and mother-in-law always gave both my kids gifts, to the point that on one kid's birthday they get the other one a small gift too. My kids are 15 and 12 and my MIL still does this (my own mother has passed but she did it right up to her death)
Aww, poor kid… 😢 I hope you’ve occasionally given your mother (full) bags of kitchen trash or leaky cans of surströmning (or other canned fish) since then. Not every birthday, Christmas or Mother’s Day… Just, you know, remind her…
@jillbeck6531 I can almost guarantee it does. I'm over 60 and when I remember being the only one left behind when my girl scout troop went on a trip it makes me sad. That was one long walk home from the school that evening.
God i still remember when my parents give aways my sis and mine presents for christmas to a couple with kids who never visited us again. I was 12 and i am still hold it against my mom 😂
Charlotte is amazing herself but her editor should really be appreciated. The memes, the relatable funny clips, the charlotte funny faces, they really do capture the essence. It is such a tedious job to sit and research for all the memes related to the content she is reacting to and they do an impeccable job. Absolutely love it❤
My grandmother was hella petty. If you sent her a Christmas card, she’d send you a lovely one with a sweet and personalized message. Didn’t send her one? She’d send one from the generic box of cards from hallmark, with a stamp signature. A literal stamp. She would even press hard to make the outer boarder show up. So you KNOW they knew it’s a stamp.
The fact that the grandma decided to “punish” the granddaughter for getting six gifts is kind of weird. Sounds like she is just bitter she never got the Weenie Whistle from Santa as a kid. Also sweat shirt lady is an absolute petty boss!! Merry and healthy Christmas to all of you potatoes.
Imagine being jealous of a 9 year old. I would think the mother in law would be ecstatic that her son in law is making more money and can ensure a more comforting and secure life for her daughter. Some ppl do be cray cray ❤❤❤❤
@@queenreg7 right. Especially for a child who is so kind and helpful and sweet. I don’t see why it is a bad thing to reward others especially children for good behavior. And I agree, kids usually have more gifts around the tree than adults and like u said I do not understand her logic. Sad grandma is what she is
I had a petty parent moment. Our son destroyed our daughter's toy that she got from Santa because he was throwing a fit (he was 6). So I took his Bjzz Lightyear apart, piece by piece, and acted like I broke it into a million pieces. It was his "big" Christmas gift. He never destroyed another thing and his "fits" decreased significantly.
I thank u for this. The only nice present I ever got was a ds. Me and my brother both got one. He pushed his stylus through his screen so they took mine away and gave it to him and he broke mine too. Then they gave him a new one and I never got another one.
@@PastaInTheStudio I'm so sorry, it sounds like your brother is the family "golden child". I hope that your family hasn't tried making you the family scapegoat, but that situation is very common dynamic when there's a golden child. Do your parents punish you for the exact same things your brother did (but your parents ignored when it was him?). Did you ever get blamed for something he obviously did? Were his school achievements held up as perfection, no matter how ordinary, while your good grades are just expected but never praised? I hope none of that applies to you, but if any of that sounds familiar, please know it's not you. I don't understand how parents can play favorites like that. It never ends well.
My mom was definitely petty about xmas cards. And not just petty, she was OFFENDED when someone didn’t send a card. Like, actually mad. That left such a terrible memory of the whole xmas card thing, I have never in my adult life sent anyone cards. And I haven’t received any for years now. Honestly, it’s a relief. That whole ordeal would stress me the f out.
I don't do the birthday thing on Facebook at all. I find it super insincere. The people who care about me will send me happy birthdays, and I will send it to them. No reminder needed, no grudges, no problems.
I decided long ago that cards were no my thing and I hate it. (also ADHD so can't remember to do it on time either) When I was a young adult, I did it for 2-3 years, then stopped. It was too much effort. I like not send cards.
Yeah I don't like the practice either. And there are still some five or so holdouts who keep sending us cards even though we rarely send any back and they stress me out. I wish I could just be crossed off their lists.
I don’t like cards either. Unless someone is writing something heartfelt and meaningful inside(or inserting money), I don’t even want it! They just end up shoved in a file cabinet somewhere 😅
Calling CPS (out of spite) is absolutely unforgivable in my mind. If they will attempt to take your most priceless gift by force and deception, what else are they willing to do?
It should be criminal! Filing a false report. I would want my daughter to be concerned about drinking near water. Drunk adults are not great lifeguards.
Agree, it's disgusting. Even the threat of getting taken away from their parents would be terrifying for a kid, not to mention the parents. Plus, they called CPS because the parents were keeping a NINE year old safe by not allowing her to be near water around drunk strangers?? That's insanely hypocritical.
I was coming to say I'd cut the ties with someone like that. First I thought she called CPS on her mother because her young sister was spending time with drunk strangers at the beach.
I ADORE that last lady. Way to treat a little girl while at the very same time getting a little revenge on the mother of that little girl! PERFECT! I love to give kids great gifts, kids are never responsible for what their parents have done and that girl is going to have some wonderful happy art all year well done lady!
My grandma did a similar thing.... except, where grudges are concerned, those people who had "offended" her got the best cards. She loved to showcase how well her family had done the past year 😂
She wants to teach the child that you don’t get what you ask for, but is also teaching the child to not keep your promises. 10/10 parenting on MIL’s part 😂
Exactly, it’s one thing if you can’t afford the toy or it was sold out, you can have a conversation about sometimes things don’t work out but we can try next to and be grateful for what we do have etc. Just having the doll and saying I won’t give it to you because life is hard is not teaching that at all! My friend had parents who did that and it was emotional abuse, told her she could go to friend’s bday or concert but right before would say she hadn’t earned it and would ground her. Take toys back she got from family because they were too fancy and were trying to make her parents feel bad (like a Barbie doll not a game system) it starts small but you’re teaching kid to not trust anyone
As someone who has dealt with a child with brain cancer, severe PTSD from multiple instances of SA in my childhood, physical & emotional A in my own home as a child, financial & emotional A in my marriage and is pregnant with my 7th kid, i 100% cannot relate to why it's important to have to know why someone didn't write a card, wish you happy birthday or not show up at your birthday party in order to forgive them. There's so much that is overwhelming in life for so many people and a lot of people throughout my life haven't actually known the depths of what I'm going through. The extra stuff becomes too much. I don't expect it from others, but i do feel special and appreciate it when it happens. I honestly don't feel like i get as appreciated when i do it for many people. But real friendship is something different than birthday parties or holiday cards.
Ma'am i hope things start to look up for you in life❤ You are a very strong woman to have gone through so much crud, and raise six now seven kids! God bless u
That was sad that the wife chose her mom's side. Did she think that they were spoiling her daughter with the gifts and didn't see what the OP saw? Poor daughter
And the gifts were because the OP got a new job which means the daughter didn’t get spoiled her entire life. This is the first time the OP did this which makes the MIL’s actions even worse.
God, my mom has that 20 page Christmas card list. My mom was such a sweet soul she always sent cards whether she got one the previous year. The only time someone came off the list is if they had passed away. And this always broke heart. I really miss my mom
Back when I worked for Target especially near Christmas time whenever I would see a kid whining at their parent(s) that they wanted a toy or something, I would be sure to stop them and tell the kid that they better be good because I worked for Santa. And I have to call him after my shift to give my report on who was good and listening to their parents and who wasn't. 😂 Worked every time.
This is the first year I was able to actually get my kids Christmas. My husband got a better job and paid weekly, so we were truly blessed with the ability to. And considering the last 5 (since my oldest birth) was 1 gift from mom/dad for each kid (3 altogether) and the rest was family. This year I was able to get 4 or 5 each from mom/dad, plus their normal family gifts. It made me as a mom feel good knowing my kids will enjoy Christmas this year. It's not spoiling them, it's being able to give them what you couldn't before. Christmas and birthdays is the 2 days the kids r spoilt. Rest of the year they don't get what they want or ask for and have to earn anything else for rest of year
@RisingPhoenix777 I know it's hard. And it hurts you the worse because u feel like you are failing. But-- you are not a failure. One day you will. ❤️❤️
The xmas card list one reminded me of a time when me and my sister were in primary school and doing our xmas cards. Mum made us both write a list of all of our classmates, but got so stressed and worried when each of our lists were missing one name (so like 29 kids out of 30) 😱 it took her a while before she realised that the missing kids were me and my sister! She very much apologised to us after that 🤣
My mom had a card list and kept the cards from the previous year. She would note who didn’t send one, but for her it was worrying--did she die? Is she sick? And she would start calling other friends to see if there was a problem. (Many of these friends lived on the East Coast while we had moved to Minnesota, so frequent communication wasn’t a thing, just birthday and Christmas cards with long newsy notes.)
I give my nephew loud toys every chance i get. My brother doesnt talk to me whenever i go over to visit. Literally, not even a hi. They live with my dad so i visit a few times a month. He will be sweet to my kids but ignores me. My dad ignores his behavior. My brother is the golden spoiled child. So i get the loudest most obnoxious toys. My nephew loves me. 😊
Loved the mirror sweater (it was funny) and the sweater with the cheaters was a funny one too. My mom did the Christmas card thing too. If I were that mom, I’d gone to the store and got her that doll and put it under the tree. What a Christmas!
Our 9 year old daughter typically gets 1 big gift from Santa and about 10 smaller gifts. She then receives one or two special gifts from us, Mumma and Babsy (as she calls her Dad). This is no different to the way both myself and my hubby received at Christmas. To ladywhobrunches, no, your mother is not the only one who does that, mine does too! 😂
16:00 - Sharklotte returns to help our petty queen . 😊 . Also the final post mom has the most legendary quote of all "People in hell want ice water doesn't mean they are going to get it" straight to her daughter . 🤣
Dude yes her hair is stunning. So smooth!! I also love when she refreshes the red and adds a boost of color to it too. So beautiful!!! I wish I could pull off that color myself.
I LAUGHED SO LOUD AT THE MIRROR SWEATER 😂😂 I'm alone and laughing. I'm totally going to do this to my family. They will LOVE IT!! You're a genius!! I also got my son that same pack of glitter when he was two, but since I'm also a toddler teacher, i taped all the holes and stored it on a shelf above my own bed 😂 trust me when i say, this box of glitter goes EVERYWHERE if not handled with extreme caution. Treat glitter packages like they are b0mbs with a motion senser lol
I love the Ho Ho Ho shirt. I found out that my ex husband's 2nd ex wife was jealous of me, for no good reason and took a picture of me poked holes in the eyes and taped it to a lampshade so I had laser eyes. I was so thrilled by that, especially because it was a good picture of me. I made me laugh that I was in someone's head to that extent.
The lady who made an ugly sweater with the ex-husband of his ho, ho, hoes is legendary. Merry Christmas Charlotte and the rest of the Petty Potato Gang. 🎄🎁
Im really not sure how women think, or if they do- but the sweater is irrational. It makes the husband look like a stud and humiliates the wife. Those other women are just proofs of “I cant keep my man at home, he needed more”. You’re humiliating yourself lady.
My mother overheard my father‘s aunt say their marriage wouldn’t last six months…. I remember being five or six years old getting posed for Christmas pictures to send in the Christmas card. my mom wrote still together every single year up until I was about eight or nine years old!! lol My parents have been married 45 years now 😊
I love the Christmas card list pettiness. My mom would keep a list of who gave us presents and if you gave us a present, she wouldn’t re-gift you anything -she would get you a fresh present. But if you didn’t get us anything last year and now you’re expecting something this year, you got a regift.
When she said she broke the tree, my first thought was that she was going to go out and adopt a cat. Already having 3 is a little more convenient. Also, the ugly sweater mirror idea is genius.
This year my daughter turned 30. After loosing her best friend ( my Dad) I knew this birthday especially would be rough one. So I sent her a package with 30 gifts total, one to open every day. Not huge things, drinks she likes, chips make up etc. But I wanted her to have a smile on her face every day until her BD on the 25th of the month. As a women who's husband doesn't believe in gift giving, which I learned after we were married (4 gifts total out of 16 yrs marriage) It's not about the "gift" its about Love.. and appreciation for that special someone. I don't care how many presents are under the tree, I would never take away a gift from my Grandchildren or children. In fact the money my husband doesn't want to spend on me, I spend on my kids and Grandkids instead! lol. That is what Christmas and BD's are about.. giving not receiving.
Hi Teresa. I’m 20 and I’ve been with my boyfriend since I was 16. He also doesn’t ’believe in gift giving’ and honestly it hurts sometimes. He’s never bought me a present on my birthday or our anniversary. It feels like he just doesn’t care and when I talk to him about it he says I just don’t “do gifts.” I can’t understand that. How do you deal with your husband in your situation? Because I find myself resenting my boyfriend a little which I don’t want to do (he’s 3 years older than me and he’s been working since he was 16 so it’s not like he can’t financially afford it, even small things like flowers would mean a lot)
@@noorbhng I do resent him, and it does hurt beyond belief. I feel like I don’t matter to him. Like I am not worth his time or effort. He would rather spend all day playing games than take a half an hour on picking out one of the gifts in the many lists I provided him of things I would want. In my honest opinion, you need to stand up and say exactly how you feel. Tell him that if he doesn’t want you to give him gifts thats fine, you will respect that. But it is important to you and its not because of the monitory aspect. By him giving you gifts on those occasion’s it him saying you are special to him and he wants to show appreciation for who you are, and who you are to him. If he needs a list of things your happy to provide it. Etc. Once you get his response you need to decide stay or go. Because trust me, you don’t want to be in my position, 16 yrs in with no respect/appreciation for who you are and what you need. Your not asking for a 5k ring or a 10k vacation etc. Your asking for kindness, love and appreciation and respect from your partner. You deserve that! So it may be time to step away. If he is the right one he will come back at some point when he grows up a bit.. or he may not because he isn’t the right one.

I’m going to be a bit more patient because I don’t want to end something that ive worked on for so long but I also don’t want to feel sad in my relationship for the rest of my life. Honestly I feel that my mum is a lot like you. My dad is not the most emotionally available and I feel like she only stayed because she had me when she was so young. It’s sad for me to see. That very first story really got to me simply because my own son was manipulated by his “stepmom” when it came to Christmas gifts. I feel for the child and mother on that. She’s a 9 year old and a freaking angel in my eyes. That little girl deserves the world. Parents, spoil your kids if you want and DO NOT let anyone tell you any differently!
It also sounds like this is not a usual thing and the father doesn’t buy his daughter things constantly, so how is that spoiled? He also bought everyone expensive gifts that year.
There is spoil and then there is SPOIL. That was not spoiled. But buying your kid a BMW and replacing it because its the wrong colour and they had a tantrum is not acceptable

I love a passive aggressive gift. They can’t complain without seeming like a jerk.the glitter gift was hilarious. My daughter’s friend gave her a slime kit one birthday and I wondered what I had done to deserve that.
When my grandmother died in 2000 we found a notebook full of people who had sent cards to her & she had sent to them and further lists of christmas gifts sent & received. It dated back to the late 70s, it was fascinating to read. Idk that she was petty with it, it was just keeping tabs, but also she used the received list when regifting some things to know who not to send it to. Lol.
My mom absolutely did the Xmas card pettiness thing - she had a chart, she would give you two years though. If you didn't send a card twice - you were axed from her card list. The brutality of Xmas card lists back in the day... XD
My mom did this too. She kept all the cards from previous year, and would only send to those who’d sent to our family. She would add someone back on if they sent one late, but if it came after Christmas, no card til the following year.😅❤
I’m Irish, live in Ireland, and can confirm we all do this! It’s marked in a book who sent cards for Christmas, Birthday, illness, births, deaths… We don’t tolerate that rubbish 😂😂😈
The cats even unknowingly incriminated themselves by playing with the ornaments when the flatmate came home 😹😸 Poor kitties were on the naughty list while being innocent
I started trimming the Xmas card list after years of sending out cards that were one-way. Saves me time and cash. Was a relief actually to especially get the time back. Not about being petty. Sometimes you just fall out of touch with people and that is ok.
I say that shit to my daughter sometimes when she’s being a brat lol she’ll be like “I want such and such” and I’m like “well I wanted a kid who listens, apparently neither of us are getting what we want today” 😂
Too funny about the mom sending out holiday cards. I think that is a generational thing. My parents (Depression babies) did the same thing--except that family HAD to get a card. Friends, business/acquaintances fell into the category of 'did we get a card' model. When I was a kid, my siblings and I LIVED for the Sears Christmas catalog. We would pore over every page and circle the things we wanted for Christmas. Not socks and sweater--but the cool toy things. After a few weeks, with all of us marking up the catalog, it was unreadable. As old folks now, we still remember fondly how much fun that was and how surprised we would be when Santa would bring one of those gifts for us. He knew . . .
Not only did we have a Christmas card list, we had "nice" and "ok" cards of various prices. She'd look at the previous year's cards and decided who deserved the better ones based on what she received from them😂
'You don't get everything you want in life' is indeed a good lesson. But 'promises can be broken without any reason' apparently is as well? I think the difference here is that the present was alreadu promised to her, not just something on her wish list. Holding true to a promise is an important lesson to be learned. She now learned her grandma isn't trustworthy 😅

Oh and I would've absolutely made it obvious that I had brought the 600$ bag but since she didn't believe in being spoiled I have no choice but to agree and just to put the cherry on top when I returned it i would've got my Sweet girl that Doll and sent her grumpy ass a picture of her playing with it and putting the remaining cash in her piggy back 😂😂😂
Absolutely. Kids going out of their way to be helpful and kind should be rewarded! Life’s unfair but parents and family shouldn’t be. Also, anyone pulling that BS with my kids will be lucky if the only payback is a bad gift.
Exactly. But I think what angers me the most is that the wife, the mother of the sweet girl, AGREED with her spiteful mother. The wife felt her daughter shouldn't receive what she was promised in order to "teach her an (unnecessary) lesson". Yet, when OP used MIL's words and actions against her (the supposed adult), the wife gets enraged because "it's not fair"?! WTF? The wife is basically saying the 9 year old should be held to higher standards than the 60 year old!
I genuinely don’t care if people wish me a happy birthday, but I do have a few people where it sticks out to me if they don’t because they are usually very consistent. Then I like to check in with them because it’s so unusual for them and I want to make sure they are doing ok. Mostly they just turn out to be extra busy and forgot, but once or twice someone was really struggling and me reaching out was very helpful.
As a middle school teacher I love that mothers reaction- maybe not threatening to take Xmas away but her saying I wanted you to get good grades, to stop talking back, to nor get suspended...YES QUEEN. You go momma!
The woman discussing her “irish grudge holding mother” and their holiday xmas card list made me laugh bc it brought back so many memories from when i was younger. Every christmas, my extended family on my fathers side not only held “grudges” when it came to sending out xmas/holiday cards (and yes, there was always a “list” of those who had or had not sent xmas cards the year prior to determine who made the cut), but the pettiness was REAL…..they would make sure that they NEVER gave a gift to us that was more expensive than what they had received from my family (literally not a dollar more lol)…..so one year my father decided to “experiment” with their level of petty and gifted my two cousins each with a xmas card with a check inside for $53.72 each (the xmas cards and checks were mailed to them just before christmas as we were going to be out of state for xmas that year and would not be able to celebrate with them together in person). When we returned home from our holiday break, my siblings and I came home to find xmas cards in the mail from said relatives….each card with a check inside for….you guessed it….$53.72 lol🤣😂🤣 We showed our parents the christmas cards and checks/gifts and my parents couldnt help but laugh! 😆🎄🧾🤣
I'm embodying this Santa season by truly sticking to the "naughty and nice" list. Really holding fast to my pagan roots by embracing the fey-like pettiness. • The adorable baby my friend had experiencing her first little Christmas? She's going to be getting a little hat I make and a cute crow plushie. • My fiance's family that treat me better than mine sometimes? Handmade blankets I crocheted. • My awesome aunt that I swear is the only good Caren out there? Handmade blanket or bag depending if I have the time. • Amazing cousins I grew up with that vibe with me to this day? Money or blankets. • My bratty little 10 y.o. cousin that openly told me no one cares about my life or what I say last christmas? She gets the gift of never seeing hide nor tail of me ever again 💕
15:04 my family ask me for a list every year. These past couple of years I make a list with categories. 10 things in each category. So if everyone buys from the cheap side everyone will be able to and the other way around. So I have a $5-$15 a $15-$25 $25-$50 so on so forth until its $250-$$$ and I send out the document saying cross it red so no one else buys it. And boom it works. No repeat gifts. No, "oh all your gifts are so expensive" and no needing to find the same thing I'm talking about because there is a direct link.
Sadly not really.. my kids have gotten messy gifts. I just don’t let them use it-unless they use it outside or in the kitchen where there is tile & they have to clean up any mess, if not done properly it will go in the trash.
Charlotte I love how your perspective is on things. With the Christmas grinch MIL story, I agree with you 100%. Why wouldn’t the MIL be happy for her daughter and their family being so blessed to have such means to spoil their loved ones on Christmas. It’s all in perspective and the mil’s perspective was much more negative and mean. What a great person to spend Christmas with, I mean really what a ray of sunshine that woman sounds like.
Gave my d&d friends early Christmas gifts this year(good thing too cause I got COVID ) and they are all like “I didn’t get you anything” but honestly I just like to give gifts of appreciation. Even though i didn’t necessarily have the means I got each one a unique gift. One even got a sword. It was nice to see them happy so yeah MIL is wild for not thinking about how nice it was in the first place.
My husband and I sent Christmas cards to everyone every year whether they get back to us or not. Number one that's called unconditional love. Number two, many of the people in our families are getting very very very old. We're talking '90s! And whereas they cannot always write or send stuff out. They appreciate getting stuff in.
The lesson MIL would be teaching the 9 year old is, "People you love break their promises," or "you can't trust the very people who should be most trustworthy"
And the dad should use the money from the returned purse, take his daughter to the store, let her pick out a doll, and then have a conversation with her about hours sometimes the people in our lives disappoint us and it’s not through any fault of our own
Uuu, that last one with the glitter! FABULOUS!!! I used to do that to my sister in laws, but with noisy toys!!! I buy the kids the most aggravating, noisy toy I could find, and put a big pack of extra batteries in the same gift. 😉
That woman asking about if it's her mom that's petty because of her heritage? No, I'm Irish, Polish, Mexican, Spanish, Pennsylvania Dutch, and a bunch of other things that we don't even know for sure and I absolutely do this 😂😂😂
I actually want my nieces to make a Christmas list so we have a bunch of ideas of what they want. However, they never list expensive stuff. It's always things like a blanket or a stuffed animal, etc.
My nieces make lists and they're kind enough to break it down by price categories. They know I would love to get everything but can't and they're always so respectful for what they do get. Which, in turn, wants to make me gift them more. Lol it's an expensive circle.
A list makes it so much easier. And also I don’t get all the hate for giving teenagers cash. I’m 46, I’ve got no idea what a 14 year old wants, if I give her $50 she can get something she’ll actually use and not something that’ll just get thrown out or sent to the opshop.
@@lisasteel6817 My family started giving us cash when we were teenagers and it was the best thing ever. Some people feel like there's not enough thought put into it but unless you ask them directly then how are you supposed to know.
I do the birthday facebook thing too - but out of awkwardness rather than pettiness 🙈 If they don't say happy birthday on my birthday, then when their rolls around I end up thinking "oh no that'd be weird, they probably forgot who I am or that I exist or don't like me any more, better not write anything" 😂
The Christmas card list thing is very much a thing my nannie does EVERY year! And she’s Irish too! Even when she was in the hospital after her hip replacement surgery, she had her list and was going through her regular petty routine! I remember thinking “she’s doing this none sense even when she’s in a hospital bed!
My mom LOVED Christmas. This year will be the first one without her. SPOIL YOUR KIDS AS MUCH AS YOU WANT. mom had a hard childhood and didn't have very much so she made sure that we had everything she could give us.
HOW DID I MISS THIS ONE?! Ive been following for years! Charlotte, I've been having such a bad day and this helped lift my mood. Thank you for being you
I remember my mom telling one of my sisters that she wasn't getting any presents that year so I got up and looked on Christmas morning for her and she did have gifts under the tree. No matter how much of little turds we were my mom always gave us something. Always been the best mom tbh. ❤
hahaha the Irish momma and the Christmas Card is so ME! I used to send out 150 cards every year, now it is down to 3, just got tired of spending time and money wishing everyone Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to hear nothing back.
I'm sorry but a 9 year old child choosing to help clean the house by themselves without being told? That kid absolutely deserves every present.
Right? Also getting gifts doesn't automatically make kids entitled. It's only when the child is taught to expect gifts whenever they want them.
I am extremely petty. I would have told my mother "Why don't you explain to 9-year-old about the doll you bought her and then returned?" And then when she got angry I would say "Or we can discuss the $600 bag that I bought you, but returned per your advice not to spoil too much"
No kidding Gramma needs an ennema
She does all of what was described here PLUS she has a tier list of how expensive/nice the cards are and ranks the people she is sending to accordingly 🤣
There is always some kind of "Christmas card drama" every year and I'm only now realising that this is not normal
She wouldn't like my cards... I get the cheapest box I can find & I'll use any leftovers for next year too 😂 most people just throw them away after Christmas anyways
🥲
First story, MIL just taught the 9 year old that you can't trust her promise for a doll. Sounds like jealousy to me. Love the father's strategy.
Dad became my favorite Christmas hero!
@@catstreat9434 she was removed from the toxic relationship when she took her marriage vows. You cling to your husband.
Lol
I’m so sorry, that would have absolutely crushed my heart 😔
You deserved a better man who appreciated you. Glad he's now an X.
That’s so sad! Wow. I’m glad you’re out of that relationship.

FIVE YEARS?!?!?! Honey, you're too beautiful of a soul to have wasted your time on that level of disrespect, but good job having it only be five years instead of a lifetime.

That or a noisy gift. Mini drums, recorders, paw patrol singing robot (thanks sis)
Kazoos and maracas for a three hour ride home. (They have 3 wonderful boys.)
Im using these for my nephew, thanks my brother deserves it dont worry @kittikats
Loved that one.

I got good grades, trips never happened.. as a small kid I didn’t get the doll house I wanted (not even a fancy one and my dad promised to make one)… I cut those people out of my life after I no longer lived with them
Same! I still remember broken promises from decades ago !
Here here...😢
I’ve literally never heard of an instance where a grandma DIDN’T want to spoil her grandkid. wtaf
Good for you, my grandma never spoiled me at all. Depended of family to family
😂many out there. Mine just complained about Me- no gifts. Sent my dad out to make money by 10 y.o. (a shoe shiner in mexico).
It's a stereotype I've always hated as someone with an abusive grandma lol
Mine pretends I don’t even exist when I’m around and complains about me when I’m not around, just depends on the families 😅
My grandpa always spoils me though! Fun lunch dates and lots of awesome stories!
it's a competition thing 😄
I was taught as a kid (and have taught my kids this too), that you can WISH for ANYTHING, you just can't expect to GET it. So no wish was off limit (and it still isn't), and I would usually get something that was on my wishlist, but I could/would/will not expect it. Some things just isn't realistic, but that doesn't mean you can't WISH for it.
For the first story, I would have taken the savings from the $600 return and gotten the daughter the exact doll the MIL was going to give.
Exactly
Yes
Was literally about to say that! F that lady. With the $600 I bet he could've bought at least 3 of these dolls.
I wouldn’t have even given her the robe. Woulda got nothing from me after that
Yes, I would have done the same.
Bro he treated his daughter because she has gone above and beyond to be an excellent person and daughter without being asked. It's not spoiling her if she is clearly a wonderful little lady! Leave the poor girl along and be proud of her gosh darnit!
Absolutely agree, well said! Shame on Grandma. And Mom too, for not being with her husband on this, & supporting of the daughter.
I LOVE what that father of the 9 year old did to his mil
He deserves a standing ovation for that one
The 9 year old will forever remember that Grandma thought she was too spoiled to recieve a gift from her on Christmas, smdh!

There is a difference between learning that the world is cruel and being cruel to someone on purpose for the reason of "teaching a lesson". All you teach is that you are the cruel one, a person that cannot be trusted (the broken promise), and that you are not worth having in my life. This is how family member reach the "no contact" list.
As someone who has their own FATHER on a virtual no contact list, i second this.
Aww, poor kid… 😢
I hope you’ve occasionally given your mother (full) bags of kitchen trash or leaky cans of surströmning (or other canned fish) since then.
I can't understand that some grandparents act cruel towards their young grandchild. 😢

Oh how I love that
😂😂😂
Passive aggressive king-fu. I approve👍🏾
The fact that the grandma decided to “punish” the granddaughter for getting six gifts is kind of weird. Sounds like she is just bitter she never got the Weenie Whistle from Santa as a kid. Also sweat shirt lady is an absolute petty boss!!

That was so perfect that grandmother got the lesson she was trying to explain. Just perfect.
and that grandma said she would get a doll but is now not going to that is just teaching the kid that grandma lies and is mean
As a child that had almost every thing destroyed by their older brother, I thank you for this and I'm sure that your daughter will appreciate it too
This is the perfect example to teach your kid to respect other people's property! This is what is needed to show kids to respect others stuff.
I’m glad he took that message cuz some kids just do not learn at all
I thank u for this.
(also ADHD so can't remember to do it on time either)
When I was a young adult, I did it for 2-3 years, then stopped. It was too much effort. I like not send cards.
Yeah I don't like the practice either. And there are still some five or so holdouts who keep sending us cards even though we rarely send any back and they stress me out. I wish I could just be crossed off their lists.
My mom still does that to this day! I also think that it's very petty. It's the season of love!
💯 agree!! This is terrible a waste of resources and time. It is devastating and scary for the family. Not petty. Terrible

I love to give kids great gifts, kids are never responsible for what their parents have done and that girl is going to have some wonderful happy art all year well done lady!
My grandma did a similar thing.... except, where grudges are concerned, those people who had "offended" her got the best cards. She loved to showcase how well her family had done the past year 😂
I love your grandma lol.
From one Irish girl to another - Yes, yes , yes my grandma & mom did the same thing as did/do I.
No, she taught the child the her grandmother’s word is worth NOTHING…
God bless u
Why is the wife not backing her partner and child? She picks her mom’s side over them. I find that more telling than the whole gift ordeal.
That was sad that the wife chose her mom's side. Did she think that they were spoiling her daughter with the gifts and didn't see what the OP saw? Poor daughter
Agree. That’s just weird. Is it HIS daughter and not THEIRS? That would make more sense.
And the gifts were because the OP got a new job which means the daughter didn’t get spoiled her entire life. This is the first time the OP did this which makes the MIL’s actions even worse.
I thought that too- like mother like daughter 😒

And considering the last 5 (since my oldest birth) was 1 gift from mom/dad for each kid (3 altogether) and the rest was family. This year I was able to get 4 or 5 each from mom/dad, plus their normal family gifts. It made me as a mom feel good knowing my kids will enjoy Christmas this year. It's not spoiling them, it's being able to give them what you couldn't before. Christmas and birthdays is the 2 days the kids r spoilt. Rest of the year they don't get what they want or ask for and have to earn anything else for rest of year
I’m so happy for you guys! Merry Christmas!
@@CharlotteDobre thank you ❤️
I just had this conversation with my oldest last night..I won't be able to do it this year, but I want to someday❤
She very much apologised to us after that 🤣
I remember my nana doing this when I was helping her do her Christmas cards one year. But then again, we're Irish 😂😂😂
I ‘divorced’ my mom’s golden child. The ‘shine’ wore off.
My sister warned me any loud Xmas presents would going home with me so they'd have something to play with at my house.

My goodness...Charlotte's hair today! The makeup today! PERFECTION!!! ❤ the Ugly Christmas Sweater with a mirror is hilarious! 😂
Her hair has been looking amazing over the last couple of videos!
Second-wife syndrome. You live rent free in her head.

She should have added his pic too
@@adriannamartinez8513 agreed, could've added Santa & his ho ho hos

💅🏿👄Can we just take time to appreciate Charlotte's lip gloss? It's really popping! 💄 💋
That's such a beautiful idea to help her through such an awful time❤Mom of the year award!
@@GroundedMightyFemmeFatale thank you for the advice you sound like a kind hearted person I’m sorry your husband isn’t as appreciative of you as he should be. I did tell him and I even talked about other problems in our relationship. He told me he’s willing to change but so far it’s just words and not actions like it has been for the past 4 years. But I’m sure your kids really appreciate you because you sound like you’re a great mother. Wishing you and your family the best ❤️
@@GroundedMightyFemmeFatale Very true. But you also deserve better. I hope you get it someday.

I am absolutely LOVING Charlotte's look in this video! The hair and makeup are FLAWLESS!
Me too! I love red lipstick, especially on redheads (myself included, haha), plus, it's appropriate for the season!
That mirror sweater thing is hilarious. Anyone who didn't like it, clearly didn't like what was staring back at them in that mirror.
Your editor does such an amazing job! That Chrissy tree Sparta moment made me laugh so hard 😂😂😂
My mom's favorite was "Wish in one hand and s**t in the other, see which one fills up first."
@@malindastevens1016 my dad said the same thing to me
Too funny about the mom sending out holiday cards.
My petty ass would have made sure Santa brought my daughter five of those damn dolls.
It probably would have been my gift to the grandmother too.

👏👏👏 and that's how it's done!!!! 😂
Yes!!!
The long hair, red lipstick and black dress...Charlotte looks amazing. So stunning!😌

The card-thing... Yeah I do the same. My mom doesn't though.
Looking fabulous Charlotte. ✨
When we returned home from our holiday break, my siblings and I came home to find xmas cards in the mail from said relatives….each card with a check inside for….you guessed it….$53.72 lol🤣😂🤣
We showed our parents the christmas cards and checks/gifts and my parents couldnt help but laugh! 😆🎄🧾🤣
oh my gosh that's funny 😂 the exact same amount is crazyyy haha!

THAT WAS SO FREAKY! 18:13 I literally received a text and then Charlotte said “you have a text”
I was briefly just like “HOW DID SHE KNOW???!” 🤯😅

Sadly not really.. my kids have gotten messy gifts. I just don’t let them use it-unless they use it outside or in the kitchen where there is tile & they have to clean up any mess, if not done properly it will go in the trash.
Love seeing how lighthearted and happy Charlotte is in this video 😊
Exactly. Which will do damage to the kid in the future.
