“Four heavenly kings” is such a cool name for the elite four.
And is actually an accurate translation.
Fun fact, that name has historical meaning in Japan, and is used EVERYWHERE in Japanese media (games, anime, books, movies, tv shows, the business world, literally everywhere)
I do know that the kahunas are officially called something like kings in japanese
Indeed
What if instead of the Elite Four, we've got tournaments in every Pokemon League besides Gen 8? While the Elite Fours and Champions were just either rivals, friends, or Gym Leaders? And if the player was always the first Champion besides Elio/Selene? Also if Johto had its own League? How'd the NPCs have viewed us as Trainers?
I think this video is the perfect backdoor pilot for a new series. Beating Pokémon as google translate intended
Ah yes my favorite bug type, bean grasshopper
So whats everyones favortie bug type? Mines actually orbeetle
The only one I like is the sewaddle line lol
@@sena4k4 nice
@@Needlessacorn90arceus holding the bug plate
@@patmullineaux1382 the ultimate arceus form
Scarlet and Violet came out in late 2022, not 2021. Don't make me feel older than I already do, lol.
I genuinely panicked when he said that lol 😅
This could be the start of "how google translate intended"
Yes!! I'd LOVE to see this!!
many of the official english guide are already translated from the japanese guide so not much difference. but it would be nice to have those that are not released in english, such as legends arceus, bdsp etc. xy is not translated from the japanese guide, so that would be one more video too
17:07 Baxcalibur's name in Japanese is almost loosely Sex slave
Oh my god- That's unfortunate.
😨 that’s bizarre
@@Keydicken It's "Segureibu," which is very obviously distinct enough that a human would never make that mistake, but loosely close enough ish that a machine translator trying to make sense of what's otherwise utter gibberish if you don't know it's a pokemon's name would.
@@Keydicken How bizarre, how bizarre
@@kleptrep94 Good reference
Chilean here! I can confirm Pokemon here can learn many grass moves
I am so childish, the translation for Hassel's Baxcalibur made me laugh way too hard.
The japanese name is actually seglaive so i can see where the translation app went wrong
💀
for me was “castor nuts” 🤣
What Was It Called
The Hank Schrader Minerals bit was so understated, and feels something that would hardly register on most people's radars, but it was honestly the funniest bit of the whole video.
I really wish this game level scaled. Having you zig zag back and forth just makes exploration confusing for no reason.
What's funnier about bean grasshopper is that nymble's Japanese name is mamebatta. batta is grasshopper and mame is bean (as in small like a bean) so google translate actually got it right 👍
"Some Pokemon live with their fathers"
Imagine doing this for a blind run and just asking "wtf did i just read?"
“What’s up Ryu” is probably wake up punch
Chef Nemo is my favorite rival fr fr
"Monster Ball" is actually a correct translation, that's what Pokeballs are in Japanese!
This was a really fun episode and really funny with the weird translations, would love to see you do something similar again but setting the language to Japanese or whatever the guide langue is, so you're just fully trusting google translate lol
Button is Penny's Japanese name.
I also love that the link between Penny, Peony and Peonia is much closer than in English. No relying on context clues from DLC to make the link.
Peony = Peony.
Penny = Button = Botan peony = tree peony.
Peonia = Shakuya = Shakuyaku peony = stem peony.
Shi (four) ten(heaven) Ou(Kings)
Shitenou = Four heavenly kings
That is what the elite four is called in Japanese.
Also the shape of the move Fire Blast is a kanji called "Dai" which means Big or great as the move is called "Daimonji" in japanese.
Unfortunately, I havent studied Kanji that well yet.
It is also the shape of the kanji for fire
@@SquishyOfCinder No, the kanji for fire (火 - read generally as “hi” or “ka”) is different to the kanji for big/large (大 - read commonly as “dai” or “oo”).
The Japanese kanji Chinese and Japanese readings are included, respectively.
5:52 ay YO
I really enjoyed this video. It was extra hilarious with the broken English translations! 😂
Freaking guidebook giving away our team star camps in England, they would’ve been perfect in a museum but whatever.
"Catastrophe UK", seems about right for us atm
Ahh yes my favorite rival, Nemo
14:24 Donphan “tighting fype”
I've barely started the video and you're getting a Like because of all the effort you had to have put into translating that novel of a guide.
THE ANTI-DRUG PROGRAM IS ACTIVATED!
About the pronouns thing; it happens a lot because with Japanese and languages like it, their aren't an equivalent linguistic structure and usage so that for translation they need to be added based on context, surrounding words in the sentence or externally as in a noun from another sentence. For English, the masculine pronouns double as neuter/neutral pronouns despite the cultural imposition of a sexed implication. Could use "it" which is proper, but disliked, or use "they" which is improper, but technically correct, although not a good choice due to the use of the singular requires context which would introduce it's own translation confusion. Sometimes a translation will have another pronoun specifically associated with a set term or phrase, other times if it attempts context, they gender of the context may be in association to a concept or association rather then a person reference. Those types of attempts also sometimes happen with translations from gendered languages with have the shared linguistic structure, but might make non-person references -- therefore not a common occurrence.
Or partial tl;dr, the pronouns are only added to form a proper sentence by adding a noun and usually have no other bearing.
I’d love this to be continued and do DLC how Nintendo intended
I truly loved this. I didn’t play scarlet and Violet until late 2023 and fell in love with the games so the game play is engrained in my mind. The ludicrous translations are wild to me. I know Arvens name in Japanese is pepper so I wonder if the different names caused for the crazy translations
liked and subbed just for the effort you went to in getting the guide
I absolutely laugh everytime you take the mistranslations serious :D
Lets go bro thr glitch city gen 1 is proud
lmao this was great. i'd love to see some more of the unofficial guides, too - the mistakes and wackiness make it a lot of fun
The dedication to make this ! Thanks dude
Hell yes I've been waiting for this
Starting off strong on the happy croc boy page with “If you are a No-type Hogator.”
This was fun video with some hilarious translations
Can't wait for the next one especially the non-Pokemon Nintended videos
Random suggestion: Beating Pokémon as Ash Ketchum Intended It
Just a way of saying beating the game with Ash mons but try to really imitate the gym battles ie Ash using Pikachu and Pidgeotto against Brock with there then moveset like Ash intended to win with
that’s a great idea
6:57 lol
I love the background thing you had in the intro! Is it possible to get it anywhere, or was it a limited-time thing?
I never rralised that these games don't have an official guide in other languages.
Been waiting for this ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
2:36 You get my like for the 2 second pause. It made me teehee inside
5:02 LMAO
nemo is nemonas japanese name, and japanese doesnt have pronouns like english does, gender is mostly just implied when talking directly to someone, or words like brother and sister, mother and father, son and daughter. google translate doesnt understand that, so thats why when it tries to translate from japanese it defaults to adding 'He' where it thinks a pronoun should go.
Papasea doing a betterhelp sponsorship wtffffff 😂 don’t make me unsubscribe
I tried them out before they ever approached me and never had an issue. I wouldn’t take a sponsor if I didn’t think they were legit
Unsubscribe then
This whole video feels like the rock meme where he’s just making reactions like an npc
“Castor nuts” had me dyinggg. Way to close to castrate
All the translations gives me an idea for if you run out of guides:
Have you seen those videos where they run wikipedia timelines through google translate using low translation quality languages?
Jolteon will forever be Sanders now lol
2:39 little cook as in cook who is small, or little cook as in making small food? the world may never know.
Hi PaPaSea! I am a huge fan!
I still wonder why the pages are still made of paper? Wouldn't it be better if they were made with some indestructible material? To prevent accidental damages.
9:24 heh
17:03 why is he BLONDE???!!!
I love the concept of Google translating Japanese guides, got some very funny results
the reason you got kwass as quaxly's name is becuase when translating quaxly properly it comes out as kwassu
I only liked because you didn’t mention liking or subscribing 😉
This video genuinely sounded like whole other language
3:02 The term for "super effective" is literally "cancerous"?
9:27 "the eastern part has a precipitous brain"?
12:22 "Asado" means "cooked" in Spanish, so "roasted" makes sense as a translation.
14:33 Cigar Loco, LOL.
15:54 Huh?
16:23 I think that's a reference to a Japanese myth.
16:28 Huh?
16:32 LOL.
16:38 LOL.
17:03 Why does Baxcalibur mention sex?
17:21 So basically, she should never play Persona 5.
18:25 Antivirus maybe?
Fun fact: Aoki is the German name for Larry
Beating Pokemon Conquest how Nintendo intended
Did he say SV came out in late 2021? Lol
Or am I stupid

He did he did

@@PaPaSea Hey
Four Heavenly Kings? Geeta is now Minamoto no Raikou from FGO and nothing will change my mind. also RIP Espeon for not being an Eeveelution according to PaPaSea
Late 2021??? No man. No way, it’s late2022 at the very least
The Japanese guidebook and translation are hilarious however I feel your pain. I bought a Japanese dsi a while back, and it is so annoying google translating every little thing in the settings to try to figure out how do I turn on WiFi or change brightness, uggg
F those negative Nancies that have a problem with reminding people to like and subscribe, cuz even tho I love your content so much, and usually like every video in the very beginning, sometimes I forget, and the reminder is useful, and even when I haven't forgotten, I still don't mind it, cuz it could help someone else, and it doesn't bother me that a channel I love promotes itself. Thanks for the amazing content, luv.
One love ❤️ ❤️❤
I don't mind the reminder - as long as it's not in my face throughout the entire freaking video. Like when a Pokemon is named that way.
I'm doing a mono water run in scarlet in Chinese and some if the translations make sense now becuz of this vids context
With strategy guidebooks being less of a common thing (at least in the West) now and companies dedicated to making them gone forever, (RIP Prima Games), I'm afraid you might have to do this google translate thing for a while lol
its crazy 2 seconds into this video he makes a mistake that leaves me uneasy
it's a mistake I didn't catch it isn't hard to understand why it would still be in there
A mistake? I didn't think I saw anything unusual out of the ordinary.
Penny also doesn't have Espeon.
I've always wanted a Dreamcast, I was a huge Sega fanboy but the ps2 was amazing and had FF 😅 So i went to PS2 then went to PC when Sega exited consoles.
Finding nemo 2 lets cook
Loved this, thanks PapaSea! I would love to see a secondary video to this which is literally just a collection of the funniest translation errors (incl Pokemon names!) from Japanese to English that you came across while doing this run. And maybe make some future instalments of game's you've already done "Nintendo Intended" videos for, which are the just same premise as usual using a guide BUT using a diff language guide instead & trying to translate to english. I think that'd be a pretty funny spin on things whilst still fitting into your already fantastic content you've made for all the other games!
EDIT: I just saw @skypaladin9878 's comment that "This could be the start of "how google translate intended" " which is worded far more concisely than my comment, but nonetheless I think this rough idea could be a super cool concept for future vids. Thanks for summarising it better than me!!

7:54 kfc?
Can you do a video on how Nintendo intended to beat legends arcias?
There’s no gender specific pronouns in Japanese, so that’s why it defaults to “him”
Please do a wonder locke for ultra sun and moon
I went to grave academy and found missingno.
The translations are too accurate at times... >_>
with all the translation jokes I missed the one your mom joke you always do 😢
As amusing as it can be for the video, maybe find someone who can effectively translate the guide for your playthrough if you do something like this again
The way Nintendo nintended.
You should play this in japanesse also, that would really show how good is Japan guide translated poorly by taking photos on phone xD
Bannas
Shout out to Sex ******** the Baxcalibur.
Jack oh mo not Gia como
Sex and a bad word.
Oh god Pokemon.
Yay
Will there be an English Scar/Vio guide any time soon?
probably not
@@PaPaSea that is quite annoying because they came out over a year ago
Glad the Anti Drug program was activated, thanks Pokémon!
Since when is "Slave" a bad word?
15:26 What happend to "following the guide as closly as possible"? Kinda betraying the premise of this video series. 😭
Anti-drug program 🤣🤣🤣
I know from first hand how complicated it is to work with something translating Japanese with your phone. But it'd be funny to combine again your jokes and the translator's mistakes again.
Scarlet and Violet were not released in 2021
late 2021?
Those poor translations are going to add so much new vocab to the videos, aren't they?
