Random Swedish spoken in the background on the first train. reminder to all the Swedes: don't discuss the Swedish Plan for World Domination in public, it might get recorded!
I was the member of staff you spoke to at Cheltenham, I thought I reconised you when you came through,. Glouucester has the longest domestic platform in the country, the Eurostar platforms are longer
Too many castles?! That's like telling a train spotter there are too many trains! I for one am loving all the history and the trains. KEEP CALM AND KEEP THE CASTLES.
My son Leo just found out how to pronounce Leominster - maximum deflation. I like how the editor showed your footage of being really happy to have got on that bus; then cuts to you looking angry having bailed out at Tewkesbury because the bus was rubbish. Would love to see the video of the locomotion commotion in the station at Cheltenham. Maximum commotion. I wonder how many people might have reported you as having seen 'something suspicious'. Maximum comment.
American English and British English have many many different regional accents! Plus there's Australian, New Zealander, Canadian, Irish, and many others!
you can never visit too many castles! You would love the castles of Northumberland/Tyne & Wear/Durham but sadly not many of them are close to a station!
Yeah, the castle is certainly close to the station and does give fantastic views over what used to be the largest railway crossing in the world plus Stephenson's High Level Bridge.
Gloucester platform is 602.69m long. Technically you could argue that Eurotunnel Folkestone Terminal has longer platforms (791m) although they are for road vehicles to drive onto Le Shuttle.
don't know but feet needs to be replaced with vickishoes and it also needs to be adopted in metric, as in 1 vickishoe is 10 cm, 10 vickishoes is 1 metre and 10.000 vickishoes is 1km
Having spent the last year living in Tewkesbury, relying on Ashchurch station, I can confirm getting to and from is as convenient, and reliable, as your experiences illustrated :(
The worlds longest platform was to be found at Manchester Victoria through to Manchester Exchange Station. The platform created in the 1930 by London Midland & Scottish Railways.
Actually, the Newport transporter bridge is not only "one of the few in country", but in the world. Today, there are only ten of those bridges still remaining, of which only six are in operation. I've actually been on one, the one between Osten and Hemmoor in Lower Saxony, Germany. Though I like the German word for it more: Schwebefähre (Flying ferry).
I've been on the one near Rendsburg in Schleswig-Holstein, which is even more incredible in my opinion as it has the "Schwebefähre" underneath and a set of train tracks on top of the bridge!
Gordon McMillan I meant to say that these transporter bridges are not just rare in the UK, but in the whole of the world. I didn't say there's only of these things in Britain.
I believe that the longest platform in the UK *with a single designation* (i.e. no split numbering, a's and b's or suchlike) is platform 4 at Perth. Get the shoes ready!
Stuart Palmer That's a bit debatable though, as some stations such as Sheffield have some trains going to platform 1, some to platform 1a and some to 1b, they join it together for longer trains. I think Gloucester has to win overall, Colechester is definitely cheating!
At Shrewsbury, the automated announcement often says there is a platform alteration from platform 4 to platform 4b. ITS THE SAME PLATFORM! Stupid pointless announcement.
Hi! I’m from Tewkesbury and as soon as you started having problems getting to and from our little station at Ashchurch I had to laugh! Sadly you’re not the only ones! The station only reopened as recently as 1997 and frankly they needn’t have bothered. A lot of people I know just drive to Cheltenham and get trains from there as our station is very poorly utilised. Also I happen to work next door to it and I’m constantly amused by the confused looking people who alite there only to discover Tewkesbury is miles away and there is little in the way of transport. Hope your next visit is a bit better lol
I was scrolling through wondering if I was the only person to notice her earrings, apparently not. The odd thing is that I'm one of probably only a handful of people who have never seen "that" move or read the book(s).
I'm really enjoying this series. I can't wait until you guys hit Scotland. BTW: Out of all the stations you've visited so far, which would be your favourite?
Glad you go to go up the Newport transporter bridge, it's such an unusual structure and a great view from the top. You need a head for heights though, as the stairs up are all open and made of thar metal mesh sort of stuff so you can see right to the ground through the steps. Couldn't help but wonder if such structures had all the expense of a bridge but the same inconveniance of a ferry (namely you need to wait for it and you need someone to "drive" it).
i really enjoyed watching this video! i live in Ludlow and it's well worth stopping for a day or half a day to explore the town and castle and the river (the Millennium Green and the Linney) :)
I love seeing you guys on trains I used to take all the time. The stretch from Ludlow to Newport you did in this video was part of my route from home to uni back when I used to study at Cardiff. Disappointed you didn't show anything of Hayes & Harlington the other day though, although there's bugger all there (except for a random bay platform for the GWR Electrostar service between H&H and Paddington).
There are three remaining transporter bridges in the UK. Newport, Warrington and Middlesbrough. Only Newport and Middlesbrough operate with Middlesbrough undergoing a refurbishment a couple of years back and getting a completely new Gondola. It has been the subject of several hoaxes with various individuals attempt to sell it to unsuspecting foreign buyers.
Great uses of a Montage Sequence; tells a visual story quickly … Trivia- introduced to cinema by Sergei Eisenstein pioneer in the theory and practice of such noted in his silent films (1925), I’m sure he would be pleased with yours … Liked the hidden Station Art interview (!!) Gems- targets of opportunity you find along the path. The Show is Golden
haha I grew up in Tewkesbury - live in the middle east now - nice glimpse of the much developed high street. 'we bailed at Tewkesbury, I don't know where Tewkesbury is!' haha don't worry most people done. Famous for it's Abbey & for being a siginficant battle site which many argue was the beginning of the end of the war of the Roses.
At 1,977 feet 4 inches (602.69 m) Gloucester has the second longest railway platform in Great Britain, just behind Colchester (2034 ft, 620 m) according to wiki and network rail data.
Castles were to protect & govern our shores - All the Castles !! Canals were the Industrial Arteries of progress - All the Canals !! Cathedrals were the Spiritual Sanctuaries of the country - All the Cathedrals !!
Random Swedish spoken in the background on the first train.
reminder to all the Swedes: don't discuss the Swedish Plan for World Domination in public, it might get recorded!
So that's why every attempt has failed me so far. Skulle ha pratat norska! ;-)
Reacted instantlly XD "That's not a English or Welsh accent! That sounds like Svealand...."
Would be more fun with Glenn Hysén tjöta in the background
Agreed! :-)
Was just about to comment that as-well,
I am Swedish my self and they spoke about family things and childcare.
Lots of Vicki makes the best episodes.
I was the member of staff you spoke to at Cheltenham, I thought I reconised you when you came through,. Glouucester has the longest domestic platform in the country, the Eurostar platforms are longer
Hello frank
Too many castles?! That's like telling a train spotter there are too many trains! I for one am loving all the history and the trains. KEEP CALM AND KEEP THE CASTLES.
To a GWR fan, Castles and steam engines are synonymous.
All the Stations action figures have to be the next thing in the merch.shop.
Also there’s a station called spa road
Yay Bristol, looking lovely! welcome to the wonderful west country.
This was Maximum awesome! really loved this and didn't knew it was six minutes and 21 seconds to walk the entire length of Gloucester station
Sim0nTrains gloucester is long
Travelling by train on a nice sunny day. Great to see the views
I wondered why the transporter bridge seemed familiar, and then I realised - Tom Scott!
Alex Willis of course Tom Scott
Same!!!
I thought it looked familiar too. Then I realised I can see it from my bedroom window.
Love Will's editing. Nice work.
So, what I figured out so far:
There are at least three types of English.
There is British English, American English,
... and British Places' English.
American English and British English have many many different regional accents! Plus there's Australian, New Zealander, Canadian, Irish, and many others!
americans do not speak english
Proud of our long platform! Even if trains seem to not like to come to Gloucester much any more.
I have been to Newport dozens of times, and didn't know about the Transporter!!!
Excellent video, it adds excitement to the adventure when delays occur.
I agree actually. I generally wish Geoff and Vicki the very best in life but when it comes to rail delays their suffering is our entertainment.
you can never visit too many castles! You would love the castles of Northumberland/Tyne & Wear/Durham but sadly not many of them are close to a station!
Well, Newcastle Castle is about as close as you could possibly get to a station - pity there's not much of it left.
berwick upon tweed station is built in the great hall of the town's castle, and is surrounded by its remains.
Yeah, the castle is certainly close to the station and does give fantastic views over what used to be the largest railway crossing in the world plus Stephenson's High Level Bridge.
I miss you guys already... maximum awesomeness 👍😃
Gloucester platform is 602.69m long. Technically you could argue that Eurotunnel Folkestone Terminal has longer platforms (791m) although they are for road vehicles to drive onto Le Shuttle.
But how many Vicki shoes long was the platform ?!
don't know but feet needs to be replaced with vickishoes and it also needs to be adopted in metric, as in 1 vickishoe is 10 cm, 10 vickishoes is 1 metre and 10.000 vickishoes is 1km
actually since a real vickishoe is 20cm, 5 vickishoes is a metre, like a metric shilling 1/20th of a metre
From London to sydney it is 75980000 vickishoes if a vickyshoe is 20 cm
1/5th
Interesting, I thought the transporter bridge in Middlesbrough was the only one! All the Stations is SOOO educational
It is Lemster and Shroasbry. You went close by my 1954 home at Dinmore Manor, under Dinmore Hill, before Leominster.
Shrewsbury not shroasby
So cool to see my local stations in these videos and knowing you've stood where I commute despite being so far from London😆
I think that was just "MAXIMUM" in every way, loved it .
The effort you two are putting in is, uh. MAXIMUM!
Fooking love this channel, all the videos and both your enthusiasm! Top notch as always!
Having spent the last year living in Tewkesbury, relying on Ashchurch station, I can confirm getting to and from is as convenient, and reliable, as your experiences illustrated :(
that Bristol station MAXIMUM!! what a beauty
First glimpse of Wales is stunning. Like The Shire in Lord of the Rings. Nice.
Tolkein did live in Cheltenham for some time
The worlds longest platform was to be found at Manchester Victoria through to Manchester Exchange Station. The platform created in the 1930 by London Midland & Scottish Railways.
Gloucester is my local! Cool to see you there
They went with "see it, say it" because the actual sentence of "If you see something, say something" is trademarked.
Flying ferry is definitely a better name than transporter bridge. That's what i like about the germans they say it as it is.
I've been on the one near Rendsburg in Schleswig-Holstein, which is even more incredible in my opinion as it has the "Schwebefähre" underneath and a set of train tracks on top of the bridge!
the Newport transporter bridge is not only "one of the few in country", but in the world
ahem - Middlesbrough?
Gordon McMillan I meant to say that these transporter bridges are not just rare in the UK, but in the whole of the world. I didn't say there's only of these things in Britain.
Isn't there one in Arizona now? :-)

I love seeing Australian locations overseas. I went to school in Malvern, a suburb in Melbourne.
Hi! I’m from Tewkesbury and as soon as you started having problems getting to and from our little station at Ashchurch I had to laugh! Sadly you’re not the only ones! In Massachusetts to Leo Minster
Gloucester platform is really long, but be sure to check out Pontypridd if you've not been there yet. In steam days, it was the longest on BR.
Vicki's Platform 9 3/4 earrings though... 😁
I was scrolling through wondering if I was the only person to notice her earrings, apparently not. The odd thing is that I'm one of probably only a handful of people who have never seen "that" move or read the book(s).
I was also scrolling down to see whether anybody else noticed Vicki's Platform 9 3/4 earrings. I wasn't the only one! 😃😄
There are 278 steps on the Newport Transporter Bridge as the sign says
That's the equivalent of a 15 storey building
one time I was train spotting at Gloucester and had 10 minutes to run to the other end to see both trains I wanted to!
we've had the "see something, say something" thing in sydney for AGES
Cinnamon see something say something was in Melbourne. I think it's Australia wide!
ThisIsARubbishName it must be! im fairly certain it started in new york but correct me if im wrong
It started after 911 in new york
You can ever have too many castles! Geoff is wrong
Totally agree! They've torned down so many in Sweden, so it's nice to see the British ones.
Try catching a train at Gloucester if you're running late - absolute nightmare
Hello There, great video throughout, very well thought out, informative, helpful and hilarious throughout. Cheers Peter :)
I'm really enjoying this series. I can't wait until you guys hit Scotland.
BTW: Out of all the stations you've visited so far, which would be your favourite?
great work guys i can t wait to see what comes next
I'm sorry you had to visit Gloucester
i absolutely LOVE the Bristol train station! i must have taken 20 photos when i was there! also: ALL THE CASTLES!!!
Also, also: Hereford (Maryland, USA) is where I went to high school. herefordhs.bcps.org/
My home station! Abergavenny!

All The Castles would be a great series to do
Yah Bristol Temple Mead one of the Greatest Stations we visited in 2013, (from New Zealand) .
I'm so excited I'm going to my friends house and it's a old train station converted into a house and theres a tunnel there
Do you know the name the station had?
Amazing bridge.
I love seeing you guys on trains I used to take all the time. The stretch from Ludlow to Newport you did in this video was part of my route from home to uni back when I used to study at Cardiff. Within the minute! Was just looking at the map and website!

Nice Swedish conversation in the background in the first two mins :0) Heja Heja Sverige!
"Leominster" - I'm 42 and I only just today learned this, so me too Geoff, me too.
10.20 The legend that is.....Frank Berry, Cheltenham's finest!!
I used to travel between Newport and BTM a lot. Never went on the transporter bridge while there. (ex hated heights)
Glad to hear you can pronounce Leminster (Hereford local here)
Yay! Cheltenham - my home station
Officially the longest platform in the UK is at the Channel Tunnel in Folkestone.
We all thought the Golden Hare (Google it, young people) was in Tewkesbury. Sadly, it was Bedford. ATS will go to both, so it's all good.
You met Kimi Raikkonen too,
Your Cyfford Twnel Hafren was spot on.
haha I grew up in Tewkesbury - live in the middle east now - nice glimpse of the much developed high street.
'we bailed at Tewkesbury, I don't know where Tewkesbury is!' haha
don't worry most people done.
Famous for it's Abbey & for being a siginficant battle site which many argue was the beginning of the end of the war of the Roses.
10:50 I have seen that message MAXIMUM Times! me and my grandparents travel this line alot, and always wonder where Great Malvern actually is
I can't get enough of the snazzy music.
Vicky's 'Cyffordd Twnel Hafren' pronounciation is VERY impressive!
if there is one thing you can count on with trains, it's that CrossCountry will be late!
Shroze-bree (but some would disagree...)
My dad's from near Leominster
If you're posh, you say Shrowsbry, if you're not, it's Shroosbry. Most of the locals say the latter.
At 1,977 feet 4 inches (602.69 m) Gloucester has the second longest railway platform in Great Britain, just behind Colchester (2034 ft, 620 m) according to wiki and network rail data.
When are you visiting Worcestershire Parkway station that opened last year (just before lockdown 1)?
There's another operational transporter bridge in Middlesbrough, Tees
you also should try and get some to interview from the new astholm rail innovation center in widens on mersyside.
What a really really really long platform!
YAY this was the video I was waiting for :) my local finally
Castles were to protect & govern our shores - All the Castles !!
Canals were the Industrial Arteries of progress - All the Canals !!
Cathedrals were the Spiritual Sanctuaries of the country - All the Cathedrals !!
Vicki is very expressive.
Did you do Bradford on Avon Trowbridge avoncliff and freshford in all the stations on the Wessex main line
"Stop talking, give me the camera!"
Castles....love em❤️👍
Are the platforms at Birmingham New Street close to the length of this. I know they're split into A and B ends.
I didnt even know ARRIVA Trains are supported by the German Railway Company (DB)
Another great video. Shame your day didn't work out too well
Ah Vicky!! You missed Ludlow Castle!! One of the best. It has a round Norman chapel, rare!! ;)
I just learned there's Herefordshire and there's Hertfordshire and they are different places!
I hope you are not English
Vicki has more guts than me - like many people, I only made it half way up the Newport Transporter bridge!
It's Shrewsbury.
Could we please have a MAXIMUM TRAINAGE t-shirt? I'd buy it 😊
There's got to be a better way to measure platform lengths than to get Vix to play "don't step on the cracks" (walking one foot in front of the other)
Platform lengths are in the Sectional Appendix covering the area. However, Vicki Feet is a much more entertaining measurement.
if you are from the posh side of the town it is SHROwsbury in SHROpshire
otherwise it is SHREsbury as it is spelt...
Pronouncing Welsh names is really good, it looks like your a natural, diolch am y fideo yma oedd yn arbennig o dda
How can no one notice Swedish are spoken clearley between 0.36 and 1.57 in the background? I noticed that xD ^^
