11:45 Bridlington beach (either one; personally I'm more familiar with the south beach) is worth a visit, as is the harbour. I have many happy memories there. If you didn't go whilst you were there, I recommend it if you ever make a return visit to the East Yorkshire coast.
My mother met my Dad at a dance in the Grand Hotel during WW2, she was a projectionist in the local cinema and he was at a nearby training camp... I had no idea about its architecture!
I can't believe that Vicki didn't mention the most pertinent fact about the Grand Hotel - that when viewed from above it's shaped like a "V" for Victoria! :)
Another great video, Geoff and Vicki! York is my favorite city! Always spend at least a few days every time I visit the UK (with obligatory trip to NRM). Agree with Geoff re Costa. No cafes near me in New York (lots of Pret’s, ‘tho), but I can get the beans!
i love scarborough. I remember the tram in scarborough was 20p when I went in the 90s with my parents, for kids and 50p for adults. I was in Scarborough in 2021 and we could see the castle from the hotel bedroom we were staying in
Ahhh The team got in there first. I just prepared the link but don't need it again... You have to live in the UK to listen to it, I think. If you don't there may be another way of getting it because its the world service.
Knaresborough, where I spent the first 5 years of my life. Beautiful town. Bonus fact: The picture framing shop on the platform is owned by my uncle's best friend from school! You also missed an opportunity for (the ruins of) a castle in Knaresborough, with a fantastic view of the viaduct!
In Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, we have two funiculars, only we call them inclines: the Duquesne Incline and the Monongahela Incline. Years ago, there were many more.
Poppleton was the site of a 'railway nursery', which provided all the flowers for railway station gardens and restaurant car table ornaments. Part of the nursery still exists, with a short narrow gauge railway (made 'infamous' by the Narrow Gauge Railway Modelling Forum's photo quiz where anyone who doesn't know the answer just says "Poppleton Nurseries"!)
Guy Fawkes shacked up at Scotton just outside Knaresborough before his demise. Glad you have a shot of Knaresborough black and white buildings at the start. No one knows why some are painted that way!
thats incredible...I never knew that about the Grand Hotel....its just like an the old 78rpm record I've got in my collection..." Deck of Cards " recorded back in 1959..narrating.how a pack of cards works out the same way....amazing man..!!!.
Ahh no Knottingley to Wakefield or leeds line... boo. I know they aint exciting in the slightest, was just looking forward to spotting my stations. Looks like you have been having a great time. The Festiniog narrow gauge steam line was epic.
It's been claimed that Camberwick Green, Trumpton and Chigley were inspired by the villages of Wivlesfield Green, Plumpton and Chailey in West Sussex. (Railway stations at Plumpton and Wivlesfield of course)
I remember drinking coffee on the balcony of the Grand Hotel a few years back. It was drier and brighter than in this video, but it was extremely windy.
The blue Costa Coffee reminds me of the brown McDonalds sign in Freiburg City Centre, Germany. It's brown to fit in with the historic half timbered buildings.
some years back they put a 'Mc Donald's' snack bar inside Goodison Park home of Everton Football club but due to local rivalry with neighbours Liverpool F.C. who play in red they had to signage it in blue not traditional MAC red. true!
Time flies by when you're the driver of a train, speeding out of Trumpton with a cargo of cocaine. I get high when I'm the pilot of a plane, touching down at camberwick, I'm stoned out of my brain.
Seamer Station is not at Seamer, it is at Crossgates, but there is already a crossgates station near Leeds so it was called the next village along Seamer
wow saw on your website your in Scotland already! tips 1.recommended getting out at Stirling and Wemyss bay because they have stunning ticket offices 2. at stranraer there is a wonderful cafe called the fig & olive a short walk up the road from the station 3. springfield has a low platform were the building is and then raises to a high platform 4. dundee has a fantastic waterfront for Vicki to explore 5. perth and dunkeld have stunning cathedrals and st.johns kirk in perth to explore would have loved to have meet you in perth son is a huge fan -a.douglas
There's actually two cliff railways in Scarborough, the other one being at the Pavilion at South Bay. But there were once four! There was one the other side of the Grand that was mostly in position but unoperational in 2012 (the last time I went to Scarborough), whilst the other was at North Bay.
There was a fifth one - it ran from Queen's Parade down to the pier in the North Bay. Absolutely no evidence of it now - it closed in 1887 after a landslip :)
90p! I remember when it was 10p! #old I also used to work at the Grand Hotel but got fired for some long forgotten reason. Sadly the inside has not been cared for in the way you'd hope by a succession of terrible owners. The bottom 4 floors are basically flooded and water damaged. Glad Geoff got to visit the castle. I grew up 10 mins away and it was all my childhood playground.
Certainly a case of riches to rags, inside is actually ordinary in no way special except in parts eg the Dining Room view. Now an 'economy' type hotel.
As a picture framer I wish our framing shop was on a station platform 🙁 that would be much more fun. And I'm old enough to have enjoyed Camberwick Green and Trumpton. We used to listen to them on LP's!
Argh I've been waiting for you to get to Knaresborough for so long! So nice to see my hometown with you guys whilst watching from Denver! I was shocked that you didn't film the castle though-I felt sure you would be all about the history there! Also can't believe you didn't get an ice cream in The Harbour Bar in Scarborough...
@AllTheStaitions I go to Scarborough quite a lot to see my granny and we go to the Royal Hotel and the castle and they are both amazing the painting of constructing the hotel in the rooms and the castle has quite a few big walls as the castle has been falling down.
We've stayed in the grand hotel about 7000000 times growing up and we were surprised to find a photo of a relative who played cricket for England in one of the stairwells
What is the piece of equipment on the vertical face of the platform behind the seagull at 15:14 in this video? I have often stood looking at the opposite platform thinking, "What ARE they for?"
They are called "datum plates" and they indicate the position of the track, at the time the plate was installed. The movement of track over time, can then be determined.
I believe the former was at one time (like many of the local organisations) called Malton and Norton. As for the latter, they called it Seamer because there was already a Cross Gates at the Leeds end of the line.
Whacking Badge I totally noticed the greeniee Starbucks logo too.. This is yet another little twiggler in this video...but it does seem "All the stations" is powered by Costa ..chuckle.
I wish they put as much work into the Southern livery as they do into Virgin Train's. It really tells you something about the franchise when the word 'First Class' is larger than the word 'Southern'
Down the hill from the Castle is a Church. Across a walk path is the new graveyard . . . where there is a famous Writer buried. Agreed, they recently replaced the headstone. And the edges are already wearing away! (Hint: she died in 1849).
Bridlington station really grinds my gears. The platforms are 4, 5 & 6, and there is no platform 3, 2 or 1. Bridlington, please renumber your platforms.
Probably know this all ready, but there used to be platform 1,2, 3, 7 and 8. Some of the platforms are longer than usual to accommodate the long special holiday trains that used to come to Bridlington, 7 and 8 were especially long. The concourse is so wide so it could accomodate the huge number of people getting off the holiday trains.
"Britain runs on tea" ... "I thought it was gin...!" Brilliant Vicki!!!! 😃
I run on gin
Sometimes we all a little bit Vicki 🤣
365 rooms to represent the days of the year.
I'm watching this on 29 February!
It's not long till we get another of those
It is really impressive seeing both of them still this excited so late in the journey!
I died at "I love Costa, Costa's my favourite" *drinks from Starbucks cup.
Constantin S. Purcea where in the video
@@SteveFTW5 @3:30 in the video

I really wonder why many people rated it so low

When you were travelling on the Scarborough to Hull Line, I was on holiday in bridlington, and alas, it was rainy.
Woke up at 4am... Turned on Radio, and there was Geoff and Vicki being interviewed on the World Service.... World Fame awaits
Do you know where I could find this interview?
www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p059s1pg#play at 28:59

You don't have to be in the UK! I'm in California at the moment and getting it! THANKS for link!
I'm from the Netherlands, and I can listen to It too (2020)
A fact about Seamer station. It's not actually in Seamer village which is about 2 miles away.
I remember Chigley! Thank you UA-cam for letting me watch that brilliant old show. Talking of things that are off the quaint scale.
Knaresborough, where I spent the first 5 years of my life. Beautiful town. Bonus fact: The picture framing shop on the platform is owned by my uncle's best friend from school!

I'm 20 and I LOVE Trumpton ☺️
I can't believe that they got a shot of a shorter bench at Scarborough!!
Also, at 14:19, it looks like Vicki fell into the gap...
lmao I was thinking that as I just watched it 😂
12:55 "Bruff." My Uncle lives there.
Another great report. Worth every cent, OOPS, penny of my donation.

Aww made me miss York, where I lived before I moved to Ireland.
I love how Sam is so passionate about what matters nought to the engineers who actually designed the train platform he's talking about.
Yawn... Can't believe I wasted 3 minutes of my life listening to Sam.
The Fonuncular! 8:48
I'm going to call them Fonuncular Railways from now on.
Anthony Houghton - it's definitely a fonuncular from now on!
Is the Forn-icular the rail equivalent of the Mile High Club?
*Funicular
Zaman Siddiqui That's not what she said.

Careful with that spliff Eugene, it causes condensation.
Every Saturday I get the Chigley skins
And they always smash my windows ‘cos the home side always wins
If you're gonna quote the ever-excellent Half Man Half Biscuit at least give 'em reference
The grand hotel in Scarborough is an example of a 'calendar house' - as Vicky explained
Wow, England is so close to completion (I know you already did it on social media) I'm excited for the end but then I don't want it to end.
Go back to Scarborough in the summer and visit the park. Viki would love it, its very quaint. You can feed the pigions and squirrels from your hand.
Poppleton even has a village green and a maypole !!!
Seamer Station is not at Seamer, it is at Crossgates, but there is already a crossgates station near Leeds so it was called the next village along Seamer
Hinckley has a picture framing shop in the station!!
Whitby did too, but it got turned into a MicroPub recently :)
A pub is better than a picture shop.
A pub makes a better facility for passengers, but if there is enough room, maybe they could have both.
Trumpton, Chigley and Camberwick Green was great to watch.
I love all the station and tea watched this whilst building my giant lego routemaster
scarborough is great when its not raining! a fine town. Better than the Lancashire resorts like Blackpool.
Hey, and there's those 'teeth' stickers on the door as talked about on a much earlier episode!
Nice. Being I am from Scarborough (Ontario Canada). :)
Oh man, can't get enough of that Malton food. Can't wait to get back and purchase some food.
I live near malton station It’s very windy and rainy but when it’s warm and the suns out it is a very good area also the food festival is amazing

Just don't tell Geoff you went on the tram ride in Scarborough Vicki.
Wasn’t Knaresborough a key landmark during the war of the roses?
There's actually two cliff railways in Scarborough, the other one being at the Pavilion at South Bay. But there were once four! There was one the other side of the Grand that was mostly in position but unoperational in 2012 (the last time I went to Scarborough), whilst the other was at North Bay.

Tony Skinner Owned by the vile Britannia group. Their hotels around Manchester are appalling.
The rooms in the turrets of the hotel are nice at least.
Mark - I remember it being 14p for adults and 9p for kids - 1988. I've still got the tickets in a tupperware box at mum's house!
As a picture framer I wish our framing shop was on a station platform 🙁 that would be much more fun. And I'm old enough to have enjoyed Camberwick Green and Trumpton. We used to listen to them on LP's!
knaresborough is one of my favourite stations. Very quaint
Saltburn has a picture framing shop on its platform.

Really enjoy the videos, was at York station the same time as the video
Knaresborough very quaint. Must visit one day.
Poppleton should certainly be on Trumptonshire
That guard at the end though 😍😍😍😍

Thank you for explaining one of life's little mysteries.
I had the very same reaction to that shot. Seen those things for years and thought here's my chance, someone in the comments on this video will know.
Classic Scarborough in the summer
Hugh, Pugh, Barney, McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble, Grub. or something like that. I remember.
i was hoping to see my station :(
I'm so sad I missed you at york !!
Interesting point of trivia - for a while, Malton was the only station that was in a different county to the town it served.
stevieinselby Yes, Malton is actually in Norton, and to correct Vicky - Seamer is acutually in Crossgates.
I believe the former was at one time (like many of the local organisations) called Malton and Norton. As for the latter, they called it Seamer because there was already a Cross Gates at the Leeds end of the line.
Viki should have done a Viki Explores In Beverley
If Geoff is sad about missing the funicular, he should come back to Bournemouth - we've got the shortest one in the world!
Are you going to Scarborough fair ?
No. Just no.
Sorry if already mentioned....The Costa coffee shop on York station is in the former York station signal box!
Geoff mentions this IN the video, yes.
Odd fact from 2020, the bus at 9:20 belongs to the company I now work for in Clacton running summer open top services
I stayed in the Grand hotel once, lovely on the outside but lots of things went wrong. Bit of a shame.
The tramway (funicular) used to cost one old penny!
I dunno! You go to York, you show the excellent York Tap, with it's real ale and excellent pork pies and you go and have a tea?
Was I the only one who noticed this? 'I love Costa Coffee!' *drinks Starbucks coffee*
The irony's in the Gag
Peter Bartlett Yeah, I know. :D.
Whacking Badge I totally noticed the greeniee Starbucks logo too..
This is yet another little twiggler in this video...but it does seem "All the stations" is powered by Costa ..chuckle.
Beaker998 Gaming People may have. However, at the time I posted this comment nobody had said anything about it.
Sigh ...
you missed hunmanby and filey (between seamer and bridlington) :(
Britain Runs on Rails, Fuelled by Tea
Or gin, depending on the time of day/personal preference. :)
Did you not go to Harrogate?
I wish they put as much work into the Southern livery as they do into Virgin Train's. It really tells you something about the franchise when the word 'First Class' is larger than the word 'Southern'
When I last went to Scarborough, it still had a blue Police Box. :)
Mortimer50145 Oh. Okay. :S
York station is built on a radius are there any other stations similar?
What Vicky failed to mention about the Grand in Scarborough is that it was the largest hotel in Europe.
Down the hill from the Castle is a Church. Across a walk path is the new graveyard . . . where there is a famous Writer buried. Agreed, they recently replaced the headstone. And the edges are already wearing away! (Hint: she died in 1849).
I saw you on itv meridian yesterday!
Another difference about your two times at hensall, you were on a Pacer in the least Used Station vid.
Quaintness overload!
Vicki is right Britain should run on Gin 😁😁😁😁
There also a miniture railway at scarborough and land trains at brid
Next time you visit Scarborough you must have fish and chips in Whackers! There the best in Yorkshire! 😋😋😋😋😋
Having moved away from the UK a long time ago. Where should you go to get good coffee?
Can't see any Beverley any timestamp?
Bridlington station really grinds my gears. The platforms are 4, 5 & 6, and there is no platform 3, 2 or 1. Bridlington, please renumber your platforms.
Its a thing that's always been going on - I think the locals are used to the confusion but I get 4 and 6 confused.
Shrewsbury has 5 platforms numbered 3-7. Platforms 1 and 2 are no longer in use.
Stockport has a platform 0 (zero)...
The class 91 will be missed :c The azuma train looks much narrower and yeah
At 14:20 I was afraid that Vicki might have fallen into the gap between train and platform.
Of course Malton is known for good food my aunte from there taught me how to make Yorkshires.
