Seventeen minutes and seventeen seconds of pure inspiration! Absolutely superb images Simon and thank you for taking the time to keep producing these wonderful films.
This is exactly the video I needed to see today. This may sound stupid, but your videos have a spiritual quality to them in the way you demonstrate how to slow down, appreciate the world around us and most importantly, perhaps, look for easily overlooked beauty. Work's been stressful and I've been a bit frustrated in how infrequently I get myself out to new places to shoot, but your videos remind me that a vast, mostly unexplored world sits right outside my door. Thank you.
Simon I enjoyed all the images , especially the obvious enjoyment of your set challenge. Today went out with friends and had a great time photographing water droplets following yesterday’s rain. We had some great light and sunbeams.and enjoyed the company of a pair of robins who obliged by having their photos taken. I find your “movies very motivating “ and I am learning a lot. Thank you
Sounds like a great outing Laura. I found myself kicking the leaf litter today to help out a hungry robin. It saved it having to dig for its own lunch.
Exceptional as always. If we remain open minded without carrying the burden of previsualized compositions and more importantly keep an uncomplicated mindset, images will happen and that is the best way to enjoy the process. And who better than Simon Booth. Thanks for sharing. Love the reflection shot so much.
Inspirational and, actually, genius. A simple way to help us stretch our vision and realize we can find images if we really search. I had a teacher once tell me that many look but few see. This video sure reminded me of her and an important lesson. Love your images!
I loved the images of the mushrooms. I am fortunate to get some in the early fall and enjoy taking macro photos with them. I came here from a recent trip you made to the beach
Love the idea of 'working the scene' - three beautiful images that would not have been taken if the early start road trip had been chosen! Thank you for your words of wisdom.
Member: Fabulous video Simon and some wonderful images! We really like the idea of a 24 metre challenge and will be trying it out very soon. Love what you said about not being being so hard on yourself. Sometimes having that extra lie in and having an easier day close to home - I know there have been a couple of occasions when we have planned to go out, but then changed plans when the alarm has gone off 😆 Take care, Mary & Derek
Hi from a snowy, cold Italy, just to wish you the best light possible for 2022 :-). I'll be following you and the arrival of spring in our respective lands. As always, thanks for your inspiration and sharing.
Thanks so much for this, Simon. My partner and I recently have been out and about, but we find ourselves quite often reluctant to pull out all the gear, and end up taking phone shots - which is ok , and walking on some more, and so on .... but it would be so much better to use the more versatile functions of the camera and lens. So in short, we are going to take up your challenge of taking off the backpack and scouring a small area to hopefully come up with some enjoyable shots ! Thanks again !!
You have a rare genius for finding images in unpromising conditions , quite inspirational. Add to this your excellent explanation of how you overcame the difficulties to get the fungus image makes this a master class of a video. I don’t think you make it look easy, you show it how it is, using hard work and patience to craft silk purse images from pigs ear conditions - congratulations.
Brilliant images as always Simon. You really are a genius at finding something to photograph when most of us would just pass it by! It takes a lot of skill to get the quality of your images too!
I love the three images and also enjoy hearing snippets of your immense knowledge of nature and what goes on in woodlands. It adds immensely to my enjoyment of your videos. I will definitely try the 24m challenge and see what I get.
Beautiful finds in the small area - well done Simon! A great way to have a "plan" when you don't have one and are struggling with getting out there. I particularly liked the second image with the leaves. Loved it!
Since Tom Heaton recommended having a look at your channel I haven't missed a new episode. You have an amazing ability to see images. As Ansel Adams once said "there's a picture in everything". And you explain the process very well. Congratulations you're a great inspiration.
Once again I celebrate your brilliance. You never disappoint but don't let that bother you. Keep going out when you can and I'll continue to enjoy your love of the woodland. Cheers from Texas!
This Is Fernando from Minnesota. Every time I watched one of your videos, the desire to go out and take photos kicks in on me. For sure I'll try this perimeter technique. Thanks Simon for the inspiration you provided to all of us
Simon, I loved this challenge. By challenging yourself with a small area, it really forces you to focus and really "see" the beauty, both big and small, that always surrounds you.
Great start to 2022! The fungi really does it for me- nice shot. I guess I've never really done the 24 meter thing (or equivalent). It's on my list- Cheers!
love the concept and the mushrooms - my old stand by is to go out in the yard or local field -- sit down on the ground - and shoot with only the 50 mm lens for half an hour - min 50 shots and max 100 -- just to ge the creative juices flowing with no two the same -- I am always amazed that I have to stop my self way sooner than I expected
Brilliant set of photos from a very difficult environment. You do make this look easy but for anyone who has tried, we can appreciate your vision and skill.
I tend to go out only when I feel I have the most positive mindset Daniel. This way I know I am clear of clutter and able to see more than i would if I were troubled.
Awesome images, Simon. I love them all! Plus this wonderful music! Thank you very much for producing this video! I will try harder to train myself to see things differently and hopefully it will lead me a bit further with photography. :)
Some lovely images created it seemed from very limited opportunities. That really is a lesson for many of us, and certainly myself, who tend to give up too easily when faced with that kind of location. I particularly liked the first image of that beautiful fungus. Thankyou Simon.
I love this idea of a 24 meter challenge, especially for woodland photography. It's easy to wander through the forest looking for a big landscape shot to present itself. Meanwhile, you've passed but literally dozens of more intimate shots that are every bit as pleasing to the eye. I will definitely be trying this strategy the next time I'm in the woodlands and will link this video to my images on IG. Thanks again Simon!
Thanks Brett and i will look out for your shout out. It's funny how we fixate on a certain type of scene when like you imply, small scenes can be equally as beautiful.
Your images as always are outstanding. When you stepped out the distance near the end of the video and I couldn't help thinking of John Cleese and the Ministry of silly walks!
I just set up a new photo association and you bring me to a fun association activity. I go into the woods with the members and instruct them to take 5 photos in the 50 meter circle. Thanks for the idea and as always for the inspiration and the photos.
3 fantastic images Simon, really enjoyed the video. I like to do something similar as you’ve described here, I usually put the bag down in an area as it feels like you’re committing. Images can certainly be found all around, but it does take some effort & determination to persist at the hunt. Thank you again for your wisdom, very much appreciated 👍🏻
Some of my best images of all time were spontaneous or something other than why I was in an area. I love walking around looking at things small and seemingly insignificant, it's not only fun but very relaxing and enjoyable. Keep up the great work.
I agree that you can find something to photograph anywhere, any time-- there is no such things as good or bad light, just light. I like the mushroom pic.
Thank you for sharing your video Simon for a small space the images where brilliant as always. Alot of photographs including myself would probably walk straight through looking for the bigger scene. I will definitely try out the 24 meter challenge. the next time I'm out photographing
New sub here. I really like this take on woodland photography, it seems less dependent on weather, light, and the other factors that often dominate landscape/nature photography. It's inspired me to get out and look closer at things. And the images from that trip are superb.
Beautiful piece of art as always Simon. You framed/cropped the first photo in a very interesting way. I really enjoyed it. And happy new year to you as well! Cheers, Chris
Hi Simon. Happy New year my friend! I have a small area of woodland just like this, less than half a mile from where I live, and I often feel like I've photographed it to death! But I think I'm going to try doing what you've done in your video. There's bound to be something I've missed surely! Thanks again for the inspiration.
That reflection photo was inspirational; actually they all were. One of the many lessons I have learned from viewing this channel is that not only should we look behind us but also up and down as well; don't always look straight ahead.
Wonderful vlog matey, my recent vlog was very similar I was definitely within 24m. I really like your 3. I wasn’t sure about the reflection shot initially but it’s really stunning. So creative in such everyday conditions
It is a great challenge... I have tried the even tighter 5 step challenge... where a friend had determined my base point for me... there is always something to find... beautiful mushroom image... on your single leaf image... even the imperfections on the leaf provide interest and balance... thank you for sharing your day
Great video Simon! Do love them, keep up the good work! Have and do the 24 metre challenge. Done it out wandering about as well as in my backyard and shot a few great exposures. When I go out I tend to just wander about and see what I can find, never been the type to just head out with just one type of shot in mind. That is the main reason all my lenses are with me, especially the 90mm Macro lens
Hi Simon another great film. I can't choose a favourite image from the 3 that you posted at the end. All very different but stunning in their own right. I like the idea of just working a small area and definitely something that I'm going to try next time
I love your videos Simon. I always get such amazing inspiration and you show that no matter the conditions, there's always a quality photo to be captured if you use some creativity!
I really enjoyed this Simon, and all three images were absolutely beautiful. This was such good advice for trying to make sense of woodland photography, I’ll certainly be giving it a go myself! A very happy new year to you by thee way! Sam
Hi Sam and Happy New year to you too. Thanks for watching. I did wonder whether other creators would take it as a source of material for themselves. Either way, enjoy giving a go and thanks for watching.
I recognize the feeling you talk about. Like you when I get out I feel a lot better. Nice tip to use a perimeter to find a subject. Thanks for another great video.
Simon, Happy New Year! Enjoyed your content as always. Great thoughts about the idea that there is an image anywhere is so true. We just have to be creative and slow enough to find it. Thanks for sharing!
I might as well just toss the gear I have in the bin. Or get new eyes. I can't wander around and find the scenes you did, no way. Well done Sir and congratulations.
I don't believe that for a second Craig. Go easy and take your time. Sometimes you have to go closer than you think. I often find new images within the images I have taken.
I haven't thought about a smaller working area i have dun things like limiting my frame count to 24 to try and simulate the good old film days when I was in my teens walking around the woods with a macro lens and my ae1 and trying to get a set number of keeper images .iam going to have to give this a try next time I get the freedom to get out seems like a fun exercise .thanks for another wonderful video.
@@SimonBoothPhotography agreed but when I get the opportunity to get out it's a mixed bag I'll try ta do macro or b&w during the day catch a landscape at sun set and move on to practicing astro or long exposure city stuff depending on where I end up I just love snapping what catches my eye. Iam kinda all over the place and always playing more than pushing one particular subject matter but that might be why iam not a working pro or well known but I absolutely love photography and love getting out with the camera
@@SimonBoothPhotography oh no friction man sorry if It came off that way I totally get whair you are coming from I love what ya do and how ya get thair .
Stunning images Simon, and a very enjoyable film, I do focus on detail shots a lot but never restricted myself to a set space, I may give it a try one of these days and maybe even make a video of it, thanks for sharing and the inspiration. Happy New Year!
Hi Simon, I loved the final image. I tried a technique where I focused on the trees then during the exposure, I used the zoom function. It also produces an interesting effect.
I do know that effect Nick. I've used it in the past along with ICM but I rather prefer the movement of nature, but that's a personal preference in my own work more recently.
Great video Simon and a Happy New year. Three fabulous images, the one of the leaf was my favourite of the three. Interesting idea the restricted space challenge. I think I might give that a try for a giggle and see how I get on.
Seventeen minutes and seventeen seconds of pure inspiration! Absolutely superb images Simon and thank you for taking the time to keep producing these wonderful films.
Many thanks for your support equally Simon.

That's so kind and considerate of you to say Micheal. Thank you indeed. Slowing down always helps to appreciate the beauty around us.

I really liked the image of the reflected branches, my favourite of the three super images. Thanks for the idea of checking out a small area.
Exceptional as always. If we remain open minded without carrying the burden of previsualized compositions and more importantly keep an uncomplicated mindset, images will happen and that is the best way to enjoy the process. And who better than Simon Booth. Thanks for sharing. Love the reflection shot so much.
Very well put indeed. I'm sure we all have this ability.
I loved the images of the mushrooms. I am fortunate to get some in my yard in the fall. It's a treat getting macro images.
Inspirational and, actually, genius. A simple way to help us stretch our vision and realize we can find images if we really search. I had a teacher once tell me that many look but few see. This video sure reminded me of her and an important lesson. Love your images!

Wonderfull idea. I often restrict my photography to get more creative, but never thought of such a radius restriction.
There must be many permutations of this. It's all about slowing down really.

I do the same for the most part Andy. We've all been in the walking trap though at some point, passing by all sorts of images as we go, head down!
Simple solutions to counter our negative thinking. And lovely images to prove the point. Cheers Simon.
Cheers Ted. Lack of motivation and negativity is just a feeling and like all feelings, they change over time, so it's best to roll with it.

I'm not sure I take 24 images on most days! Slowing down is extremely beneficial with this type of photography.
@@pictie I’m fully on board with you, I am really referring to the type of photography that I engage in.
@@SimonBoothPhotography oh no friction man sorry if It came off that way I totally get whair you are coming from I love what ya do and how ya get thair .
@@pictie none taken 😊
Stunning images Simon, and a very enjoyable film, I do focus on detail shots a lot but never restricted myself to a set space, I may give it a try one of these days and maybe even make a video of it, thanks for sharing and the inspiration. Happy New Year!
I will look forward to seeing your results John
@@SimonBoothPhotography I think it's a great way to force yourself to look for compositions and improve your photography mindset.
Hi Simon ! This situation is familiar to me. Beautiful pictures ! Video cheers up and stimulates going out to the Nature in any situation !
Glad it helps to provide inspiration.
Thanks for the inspiration on things to photograph in a chaos filled woodland scene.
Sometimes it's best to not try too hard and just let the images come to you.
Very nice images Simon 🙂Good point about the 24m challenge, I would try it myself.
Good luck Niels.
Really enjoyed watching this. 3 fantastic photos you have a brilliant eye. You have have inspired me to go out with my camera today
Really pleased to hear this. It's such a rewarding thing to do.
@@SimonBoothPhotography thanks. I went out and managed to get a couple of shots I was happy with.
Great video Simon and a Happy New year. Three fabulous images, the one of the leaf was my favourite of the three. Interesting idea the restricted space challenge. I think I might give that a try for a giggle and see how I get on.
Happy New Year to you too. Good luck in your quest.
