John Stecz..... The V16 was Never available for use in Hwy trucks. This V16 (Series 92) was installed by the owner. MacMillan/Bloedell up in BC, Canada had Six Custom built, tandem steer Freightliner COE's built at the factory with V16's (Detroits) and HD Allison Transmissions for hauling "sticks" (logs) on "trains" (3 & 4 trailers), from the mountains to their pulp and paper mills, back in the mid/late 1970's. Gross weights were in the 450K+ range.
I love the lope of a Detroit at idle whose rack needs just a little tweak -- and in a double bunk 352. (Love the V903 or KT series too) ** On a side note, my father was a ham radio operator in the Army Security Agency during the Korean Conflict. At home he had a base radio and antenna set up and could talk to folks in other countries. He never understood antenna at an angle.
Man, I'd hate to see the fuel bill for that thang! She sounds good tho😁 What she get 2-4 mpg? And I'm not hating......it was a Silver 8V92 in a KW K100E that made me fall hard for the two strokers.
If it's naturally aspirated with N60 injectors and governed at 2100 rpm, then it will be 560hp and ~1700ftlb. An 8V71 to the same spec is 280hp and 850ftlb. A lot of people call every 8V71 a 318hp but most weren't because they weren't set for 2300rpm and they didn't all have N75 injectors
@@frontagulus Sorry Sir but an 8V71 with n60 injectors is 290hp and and a 318 is N65 injectors which was their most common rating. 75 mm injectors are for the 8V71Ts
If they are so terrible why did the have 50+ years of success with the 2 stroke 🤣 just because you don't like them don't mean they were bad for the time.
I love diesels and I'm going to take heat for this,I can't stand the 2 stroke sound...it sounds unnatural,I can listen to a Cummins, powerstroke, Duramax, cat 366,any euro diesel hammer away all day.i drove a Cummins swapped 72 f250 for a whole year with no radio and loved it.but that 2 stroke sound is awful....
1136 cubic inches of barking 2 stroke.
Turning fuel into music as us old timers say
Without a bunch of smoke ---
I'd bobtail around the country in that.
Ikr
Holy crap! Hands down best of the best sounding of all time!
If the driving public actually knew what they were seeing. Beautiful work guys.
I had an 1980 352H with a 3408, miss that ol'girl 😢
Is that a v8 cat? I heard they ran those in some monfort trucks
Never be late V-8.
What satisfaction it must be for the mechanic and the old girl to come to life again
Peterbilt 352 " the pacemaker". Sounding like a beast.
Miss seeing those old Cab Overs on the road. Good times!🤘🏻🤘🏻
V16 Detroit love it
Love those old Detroit's
Operated White Frietliners cab overs in the 1970's in Canada but never new there were 16-s built wow! can just imagine the power. Thanks for posting.
Very cool! Would love to see er pulling a grade w that extra V8! Thx fer showing us
That's one of the coolest trucks I've ever seen.
Sounds amazing! Almost muscle car note! Thanks for sharing

Very cool sound, love it! Greetings from Germany👍
I always dream to drive such a truck for days...❤ greetings for old guy from sri lanka 🇱🇰
My friend had one with a V 12. But did not know you could get 16 cylinder. Nice
Two 8V’s combined

There is nothing that sounds better than a screaming two stroke Detroit
Awesome seen this video years ago somewhere
Hope I can get some more once he gets it unburied out of the shop next summer

Well its sort of a "Cool" look but also when you lean them forward a lot of them bend upright almost perfect at highway speeds
2stroke?
Music to my ears
Powerful Sound 🦾
She’s a beaut Clark 🤟🤟
Chevy chase?
Shi**ters full !
That is one Awesome truck
Getting the same fuel economy as a yacht haha, but to hell with it that sounds good.
This truck is used to pull continents back together after an earthquake!
One sweet sounding money into noise converters I have ever heard.
Love the sound of a Detroit
Please give us a pov video inside going for a ride with the Pete 16v!!
16 ,, idles so smooth
I would love to bobtail around the Country in this.
The engine idling sounds like a jake break itself
Love to burn diesel sounds good looks great awesome badass♥️👍🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲💯👌♥️👍👌✌🇺🇲
Now there's something I could sleep to!
Hell yeah
The tiltin hilton....
Nothing sounds like a Detroit.
Mean looking cabover 👍🏼
Sounds good, never seen a V 16 in one
GREAT 16V 71 DETROIT 1136 CID.
What a Monster ! So Cool 😎
Like to hear more of that big yamahammer
When i got a new frtlnr with a baby detroit.DD1… thought how nice it was to not hear a Silver 92 ever again.. nice fer a few seconds now tho.🙂
Thanks for the memories.
D60 and I thought I was pimpin' in town!
Impressive indeed.
Heh heh, love the 16V's. They sound like a straight 8 Buick on steroids!🤣🤣👍👍👍👍
AMERICA!!
Beautiful Mech man
A beast!!💪💪💪💪
Music to my ears😊
That dd will spin fast enough to run that truck 120. lol
They still redline at 2100 RPM, they just sound way faster.
@@oldrustycars those engines will turn closer to 2500, maybe more
@@oldrustycarsRedline at 2700 most were set at 2400.
A real truck hauling real trucks. 😃
The Dodge 426 HEMI cuda of trucks
Plymouth made the Cuda.
That’s impressive
Very kool 😊
Sweet
👍🤤
Thing sounds sweet. Complete with shutterstat radiator opening. Probably pull stumps with that puppy. Beautiful!!
- So how many miles per gallon we talkin?
- None
Detroit music
Glorious 😎
Wow! Rare beast
Beautiful!
Hey was that “Pete” parked in tha’ weeds on tha’ curve jus’southa’ Everson, WA. Years ago?
Yes
Man, I'd hate to see the fuel bill for that thang! She sounds good tho😁

Not sure what he gets
Awesome fuel consumption.
Awesome sound
Dang son
Imagine the torque, could probably idle up a 20% slope with a full load
No. Not really. A c15 475 makes more torque. Old v engines great HP but shity torque

Did these trucks come with a v16 as an option?
No
This is a 2 stroke right? All 71 series are 2 strokes.
The words Detroit Diesel and CARB are by nature a contradictions of terms.
Must get awfully toasty in the cab... sounds great though
No reason it would over any other motor.
Do you have a video that actually shows the engine?
Was that a factory engine option for this rig?
Cool
Got Jakes?
Yes it does
Original transmission or an upgrade on it ?
Super 10
Sounds like a cummins, powerstroke, and duramax mixed together
What kind of fuel mileage does this beast get.?
Not much 🤣
Not so sure 700hp I run an ex military volvo fl12 8x8 with a mtu v10 twin turbo with zf 16 speed she gets down with 1495hp.
With all do respect. Are sure you put the number right? Looks long enough for 12v71 but does not look long enough for a 16v 71. I mean no disrespect
Last time I checked a v16 was alot shorter then a 110" peterbilt cabover......
What diameter stacks are those?
I think 10. Not sure. Big 🤣
Ridiculous
Those stacks look absolutely stupid
Them ain't straight pipes, look at the curvatures. It does, however, sound real nice,as does the conventional
16v71 suggests it doesn’t have a turbo
They came both ways
How many miles to the gallon that mf gettin?
Sounds like a Ford Coyote engine
I know where that was filmed I live in ferndale wa. Those are all awesome rigs
Sure 700horse but only 1600tq
"Only" 1600? For those of us that have driven with 800ftlb, 1700 would be awesome.
Sounds terrible…should of had a V8 cat!
Who let you on mommy's computer without supervision
@@jdm65kw89 those detroits are terrible, ten minutes in that truck with that engine screaming and you’ll be looking for a cliff to drive off!
6 months with a v-8 cat and you’ll be looking for a bank to rob 😂🤣
@@heavyhaul8621 that’s great! right on point!
