I went to work for a Werner in the early 90s I think I work for them for like eight years. I remember stopping in Omaha and seen them build the first one that he was talking about and I remember going into the shop and looking at that V16 Detroit sitting on the floor and thinking wow!
My 1st driving job was Werner. February of 1999… Trained in a Classic for 8 weeks then got assigned a Classic.. after one of those trucks, I could back anything 😂😂😂….
@@chrisbelsito4231 they still had cabovers when I went to work for them and my first assigned truck was an old beat-up used FLD Freightliner they had a bunch of old flat-top Volvo's also
I worked in Prep Bay at Omaha while this one was being built, and was there the day they first started it. I also remember CL2 parked in that shop several times. Loved watching this one being built.
Saw this truck at the TA in Perrysburg OH back when they first built it.They were driving around recruiting drivers. It sounded crazy, revved super fast.
Beautiful truck! I went to school on the old 2 stroke Detroit's and loved hearing them back in the day. You could hear one coming down the road and new exactly what it was just by that blower whine! Fuel pigs by todays standards, but their sure were torquey!
My first truck back in 1982 was a 1956 LJ hard nosed Mack repowered with an ENDT675 237 HP diesel with a 5X3 (tri-plex) tranny. It was our wrecker and was on the road daily. You could not kill those things they just kept going.
Does anybody remember the W model Kenworth that Werner Enterprises owned and operated on every day OTR in 1982. This truck was powered by a 12V92 Detroit Diesel with an Allison Automatic Transmission ???.
I would really like to see a classic with a hood with a beautiful Detroit 12v92, I saw that there are some equipped with the 12v92, but there isn't much information about them.🤔 Have you seen this KW up close, if so, tell me more about them please .
@carlosbelizario5360 ~ Hi there Carlos, I have photos of the W model Kenworth with 12V92 Detroit Diesel, we had come out of Los Angeles (1982) the night before having unloaded a load of timber ex Portland Oregon and reloaded building supplies in the same area of LA and stopped for breakfast at a small truck stop in Oregon the next morning, this Werner Kenworth W model was parked up at this truck stop and the driver came out to ask me why I was taking photos of it, he intually thought that I had run into his truck until I explained that I was in a similar W model Kenworth with 12V71 Detroit and asked me if wanted to see the engine so he lifted the hood and I have numerous photos of the truck including the engine. Turns out Werner Enterprises were testing the engine for Detroit Diesel definitely had Allison Automatic Transmission and I also explained to him that I was on an extended visit to the United States Of America from my home country of New Zealand. This Kenworth had a Large flat roof sleeper around 86 inch to 90 inch and pulling a general freight trailer with a tarped load on it, I think he was heading north bound toward Los Angeles as we never saw him again !!! This was a very long time ago and was only 25 years old, I'm going on 68 years old now and spent some of my working life driving Reefer on OTR in Australia mostly driving W model and K100 Kenworth trucks also some conventional Macks and Cabover Australian built Cruiseliner Mack trucks Caterpillar 3406 engine powered with Brakesaver and no engine brake !!! Perhaps the driver of this Freightliner show truck which is "a feat of American Engineering" knows something about CL Werner's W model Kenworth that I talk about, probably one of many special trucks Werner Enterprises owned and operated over the years gone by !!! Hope this explains a bit more of how I got to see Werner's Kenworth that morning. Kind Regards, AJ BENTLEY. Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand 🇳🇿
@@aj-kwt909truckin31 What an incredible story, I would also like to have an opportunity like that, seeing a KW w900 with a 12v92 must be fantastic, I am an admirer of 12v92 for their beauty and unmistakable sound, did this KW have a very elongated nose? I admire Australia and New Zealand for sharing European and American trucks on the same terrain, but American trucks have always been my favorite without a doubt. Thank you for sharing this story with us 👍
Hi Carlos, Thankyou for replying to my comment and in answer to your question about whether this Kenworth had an elongated nose, yes the hood on those W models powered with 12V Detroit were much longer than a standard W model Kenworth hood similar in length to the Freightliner Hood in this Video, this Kenworth with the 12V92 Detroit in it was a very special built truck for Werner Enterprises especially on and around the Engine, alot of the Engine components were either chromed or polished alloy with some components being polished brass as well as polished copper. The driver claimed it was originally around 1200 horsepower but Werner Enterprises were not happy with it's fuel consumption and had it cut back to around 750 horsepower I guess by refitting smaller injectors, I guess he was telling me the truth and not telling me a load of bull.!!! Regardless of what he told me it certainly wss an impressive piece of equipment noting that Werner Enterprises have.operated some very highend equipment over the years !!! Hope this message finds you well Carlos ~ Kind Regards and Happy New Year. AJ. Bentley Rotorua North Island, New Zealand. PS : Keep the flag flying 🇺🇸
@@aj-kwt909truckin31 Goodnight. How are you doing? I always wanted to know if a 12v92 would easily fit in a truck like the Kenworth model W, as it is an engine intended for marine and industrial use, its length is certainly greater than that intended exclusively for trucks like the 12v71, however the 92 Series is It's a very elegant and powerful engine, and it catches my attention, even though I know there were some installed in trucks, I've never seen anything talking about it. I would be happy if you could share these photos of KW with us.👏 Thank you for answering my question 😁, have a good night. May God always keep you safe. A happy and prosperous 2024 👍🚛
Classics are beautiful with a factory look, nowadays they are outfitted with a 20” drop visor and a 24” blind mount bumper with 12” stacks, Underglow, 350” wheelbase and a mini fridge where the passenger seat should be 😂 also a shifter that brushes the top bunk in the sleeper lmfao 🤪
Great looking truck and great looking engine, take care of yourself and your truck and your Detroit engine. I hope you can find lower fuel prices for this beautiful truck.
Freightliner just didn't have the Market pull on Extended Hoods like Peterbilt and Kenworth did. And for about 10 years, Peterbilt was the only one building Extended Hoods.
Back when Werner was way smaller, I drove for Smith Transport out of PA….and back then they used to “Lead the way”…..Now they’re both just pretty much “In the way”.
The V8 of Detroit were known for its reliability and long livability and low end torque but lack of a punch that was needed for high power and low speed applications like logging and forestry and mining , so yes, they did put 2 X 8V together, same as they did put 2 X V6 to become the V12 to be used in high weight freight, but mile per gallon over the road applications the fuel eat all the profits, so no go, and the survivors are taking part in truck shows only...most of the time. TH
I wish someone in America would do a truck with at least quad fuel tanks and fill somevof that chassis up, even if empty would balance out the look, JMO
Since when is a V-16 is plain? And as you can see on my channel, truck shows don’t exist just for flashy ‘show trucks,’ whatever your definition of them is.
Now that is a real Freightliner Classic. Outstanding Video. 🇺🇸 😊
Started in Oct 1964 in an IH R190 twinstick! Retired 18 years ago!! Loved my JOB!!
All i can say is WOW!
Thanks for the tour! I've seen pictures of this truck so many places, it's great to see someone (especially you) get a tour of it on video.

Holy Crap! *breaks out calculator* a 1472 cu in 2 stroke? How many gallons per mile does it get?? 😅
Yes.

Wow what a great big beautiful beast love those DD 2 strokes
The first clip of the Detroit running I wondered what was cycling. It was the hood being raised.
I always favored the Freightliner Classic long hoods over the KWs & PeterBilts why they discontinued them is beyond Me !!!

We need to see a video of that 85 Pete with the v12 cat. Can't find any information on it online.

Is it DDEC? It sounds really smooth.
Back when Werner had nice trucks
They’re going to have hook to a fuel trailer and attach the fuel lines directly to it to get anywhere.
The best thing about Detroit Diesels is their exhaust note. Whether it's a 238 all the way up to the V16s. The draw back is the oil slinging
Wrong. It uses 320 gallon in 10 hours. More efficient than clatterpillar or cummings.
Seria este um sonho de consumo? Não em 3D, mas em 16D. Lindo caminhão, enfeitado ate demais, mas lindo caminhão.
Double sided pyrometer on the dash. Checking exhaust Temps on both sides.
Sadly most drivers now days have no clue what a pyrometer even is.
Clean the side of the dash drivers side …coffee drips 😂
They would run out of Paramus New Jersey with a team driver from Paramus to Los Angeles 48 hours
I wish someone in America would do a truck with at least quad fuel tanks and fill somevof that chassis up, even if empty would balance out the look, JMO
Is that a 71 or 92 series?
Damn...
Drool ............... wipe. Drool some more ....................... Wipe....................... WOW
Could’ve just put a built 14L in it…Would definitely make more torque & power built the right way…But 2 8V 92 are nice as well
Detroit has the fastest throttle response of any diesel. Balls to the wall all day long is how they are supposed to be ran.
Is that truck functional, road ready?
It actually >s, but it is reserved as a Show Truck.
J'adorerais me faire promener dans un beau camion comme celui ci il est magnifique
I like to drive it just once
2-3 mpg???🤔
👍😎👍
Horsepower?
Back when they had real equipment lol
I guess you use this truck to pull continents back together after an earthquake !
Pretty engine but what a pig it is! Wouldn't want the fuel bill. The 8V71 was a hog, so two of them bolted together is x 2!
It's kinda plain to be a show truck
