Kazrog has up-ped their game with their analog modeling plugins. Softube and Slate still my fave tho.

Shane from Kazrog is a friend of mine (and has been since long before I knew who PLAP even were). I was not paid.
Even if he was paid. Who cares?! He isn't allowed to pay his bills? He doesn't need money like the rest of us? It was a great demo of a great product.
How does this compare to the real thing ?
To the best of my recollection it’s extremely close, it was approved by the Avalon team after all so I’d say if they’re happy to put their name on it, it’s got to be good.
I haven’t used a real 747 in years though so I guess it’s up to someone else to do an A/B
We did extensive A/B & I personally own two hardware Units. Shane Mcfee our fearless Leader has one I sent him and I have the other one here in my room. The new VT747-SP sounds Identical. We made a few adjustments approved by Wyn Morrow owner of Avalon. We made faster Attack Release Times for the limiter, the TSP was nearly doubled as it has always been very subtle, and the EQ gain per slider is slightly higher in the Plug In, so there is tad more throw.. Beyond these approved adjustments, Hardware and Software are the same. I have been an Avalon user for 25 years and really understand the sheen and clarity of the units. It sounds fine as a plug-in but another UA-cam user made a demo comparing it to the hardware and it's not even close. Plugins are great but we need to stop pretending that they ever match the hardware because I've not heard one that does. The looptrotter sa2rate plug in is another prime example of this.
I've seen that test, and provided these insights about it:
1) One key difference between the hardware and the plugin is that the plugin uses the documented range for the graphical EQ sliders, rather than the actual range we measured on several units. In general, the center 4 bands have about 3/4 less boost/cut range on the hardware than the documentation says they do, so if you're matching settings, that's something to keep in mind. Why did we go with the documented range instead, you might ask? Because it's important to us to have tools that provide intuitive user feedback and results that are predictable. That said, we may offer a "tolerance drift" feature in a future update to optionally emulate the drift and variation of various analog modeled components.
2) Tube selection can make a significant difference in the gain staging of the VT-747SP hardware. We modeled a modern, relatively clean set of tubes, but we plan to offer a "tube rolling" feature down the road to allow users to change the harmonic voicing of the plugin.
3) The gold standard of blind audio tests is ABX testing (which is impossible to do on UA-cam itself, but possible if one has lossless files to download.) There's a free software tool here to conduct your own blind ABX tests lacinato.com/cm/software/othersoft/abx
