No this transition was the beginning of the plans they made since ending of WII! The change of the seventies was the change to all these insane programme.
Absolutely- at the risk of sounding old, kids today have no concept of what actually constitutes great music. These guys had none of the technology available today and produced fantastic music. The absolute ground breakers for what came after them.
Mmm those chords...the feeling...I was 16 years old then and more into rock. But felt already that this song was going to be timeless. Who else in 2021?
I can't believe this wasn't a hit in America. It's the exact type of ballad they woulda gone for back then. It sounds like it could've been a Bread song.
This song came on the radio at the same time my Dad was told he had 6 mths to live. My mother had died 4 yrs prior. So this song represents a major turn in my life.
"The harbour's misty in the morning love Oh, how I miss December, The frangipani opens up to kiss the salty air...." This guy really misses Australia in Summer when the frangipani flowers are most prevalent. If you've ever smelled frangipani flowers blooming in Summer, you'll know it is one of the most exquisite scents you'll ever smell and a scent you'll never forget.
This was being played on AM radio in Australia at Xmas of 1976 and early 1977, it was a minor hit and I am one of few who still own the 45, I had no idea until now that Doug was born in Australia
. This track is such a moving track. Knowing when I’ve been since. The late 70’s, working at the rail workshops at Chullora, Sydney Australia. This track on a Friday afternoon, would echo through the workshop. After I’d picked up my weekend of smoke. They are my memories but it’s affective because it’s personal
Years ago before the internet I never heard this song much played on the radio. Never enough ever. Now thanks to youtube and the internet which we all take for granted I can hear it all the time if I want to. One of the best songs ever.
Doug Ashdown with Winter in America is one of the best songs ever composed and should be a lesson for all who loves some one and think that green is greener on the other side. The video is made by me as there is no good video of this great song available on the internet
I love this song the man looks bizarre but that is just the spirit of the times. I do not understand people who give a thumbs down. they have a heart of stone .
@Mark Davidson, I worked in the electrical division, of the work shops. The name you mentioned doesn’t remind me of a name. The music was giving but the job itself was not so...
@Mark Davidson. Across from the work shops. Dept of Main Roads. Where I’d go across the road to pay colleagues car registration. Damn I was only 16 or so at the time lol. You have induced many memories though🙏
Ik irriteer me klem aan Rene Froger z'n versie hij heeft de rust er uit gehaald toen deze uitvoering van hem uit kwam hoorde ik het al bij de eerste noten & maten
1975 is my memory of this. It was released, apparently in late '74 with the title "Leave Love Enough Alone", no radio jock could comprehend what it meant, so it wasn't played. It was re released months later with a new moniker, I do remember John Laws playing it and trying to get some interest. It was from Mr Laws that I learned this stuff.
I'm glad others are mentioning this had been released before 1978. I'm sure I heard it before then, but I'm not sure when. Maybe it had an Adelaide-only release years before it got picked up nationally.
Agree, the song that reminds me of love that alluded my concious ..best to focus on the 'now' .with its beautiful possibilities .and yes, Karma is a relentless reminder..but maybe that's how we grow spiritually?..d. brisbane
Just read in comments this amazing song which should have been worldwide hit was Aussie. Always heard Canadian. Explains why uts so down to earth. Real

Happy birthday, Doug old mate! You and Jimmy Stewart wrote a magnificent song.
1978 was a strange beautiful time. The transition from the 70’s to the 80’s.
No this transition was the beginning of the plans they made since ending of WII! The change of the seventies was the change to all these insane programme.

Yes sounds like a bread song spot on
Somewhere someone in production perhaps?
I think Ashdown was trying to create a "MacArthur Park" effect with this.
That's true
@@Baskerville22 can't see that. Yes with the winsome chords I think I do
This song came on the radio at the same time my Dad was told he had 6 mths to live. My mother had died 4 yrs prior. So this song represents a major turn in my life.

This dusty drums and bass thriving this chorus forward is so good. ❤️
There have been many great Aussie songs - this is one of the greatest! Wow! Still stands the test of time.
This brings back memories of a breakup in late 1977 and it still has the power it did then.
‘I waken to the sadness of the rain’ particularly so...
