- All the clips I included are from their winning performances. It was an interesting journey creating this, it was like a history class in figure skating, and I'm hoping to make others for the other disciplines 😊
This list counts the number of medals attained at the Olympics and World Championships, the two most important competitions in figure skating.
This list only included awarded medals under the International Judging System adapted in the 2004-05 season and after. This list does not include medals attained from the Team Events (Olympics).
Note: The wreath means Olympic medal, and the normal medal is Worlds.

Sorry. When I saw that Brian Joubert was ahead of Evgeni Plushenko, I snorted and stopped watching. I liked Joubert but Plushenko was ahead of him in just about every element, not to mention being a two-time Olympic gold medalist. I love Javi Fernández too but he himself would tell you that he's not better than Plush either.
Do better next time.

@@benbailey159bb Ben, I take your point about Evgeni's overall competition career, although he actually adapted pretty well to the new scoring system when it was implemented. But it's really that the list doesn't include Olympic team events. Actually Plushenko won three of his four Olympic medals in the IJS era - his first gold in 2006, his second silver in 2010, and his second team gold in 2014.
The only point that I was trying to make is that we technically have five men in the two-Olympic medal club, irrespective of whether they won them in individual or team events. That falls outside of the parameters set for this video category but that's all I'm saying. It really would have been interesting to see what happened in 2014 if Plush hadn't had to drop out due to his spinal injury. I still think Yuzu would have won the gold but Plush would still have been competitive for at least a bronze medal, based on the skating he was doing and on the field. Maybe even a silver, because so many men starting falling on elements after Plushenko withdrew. But we'll never know.
There’s no doubt Yuzu will go down in history. Best figure skater yet.

No one can compare to Hanyu. No one is as smooth as him in the way he does it. In most performances by other skaters it's always so obvious how hard they focus on the jumps, but with Hanyu the whole performance just flows so naturally. He's not even dancing out there, he's fucking flying.

Shouldn't the GPS count more than Worlds? There are 2 other major competitions that skaters must score in in order to qualify for the final.
Worlds is considered to be most important competiton in a year. GPF is the second-most important though.
Mery some say 4CC and EC are above GPF too though. So I guess only counting Worlds and Oly is the best since it’s hands down the two biggest comps where everybody meets

TUNE no one purposely injured him, he and another skater pumped into each other on accident.
@@tune7260 he was skating backwards and so was the other skater, Yuzu ended up with a split chin, a concussion, and some bruising, but he went on and won silver. The other skater who was less injured (at least that's what it looked like to me) did very poorly and didn't place. That crash was very accidental especially because it was a Chinese skater who crashed into Yuzu and it was at the Cup of China, so he really just let his whole country down, but it wasn't his fault.

His interview with Plushenko on Continues With Wings was amazing and the last part broke my heart when they were talking about what it feels like to not always be the winner, getting older and to have the media and commentators all of a sudden critical and not supportive the way they used to be. The look on Yuzu's face when Plushenko was talking about how he felt about it was so sad. I think that was the most honest emotion I've seen between two people, probably the only two in the skating community who know exactly what that feels like.

Good video, but for future videos i would recommend giving olympic medals more weight. An olympic medal should be worth minimum 2 corresponding WC medals. It would also be nice to include GPF medals.

Since 2014 Yuzu is the best. 2015 2016 he's still the best but unfortunately because of mistakes so he won silver. Yuzuru said that if he was 17 look at him now he would think he should've won more gold medals. (Sr my bad english)

In response to harunotodoroki's comment I want to say I completely disagree! Evan Lysacek may not have had the quads but he had precision and elegance. His routine wasn't nearly as difficult as Plushenko but when you make no mistakes and you skate so effortlessly you should be rewarded for it. Yuzuru is similar in this instance because he's so graceful and effortless when he skates, but Yuzuru has the quads and performance that makes him leaps and bounds above any other competitor.

Thank you for this great video, it inspired me to watch some skaters from years ago. Like many who commented here l only started watching men skating because of Yuzuru Hanyu and for the beauty of the performance and the composition of all different elements in the programmes he skates/dance/performs he remains my absolute favourite.

Jessie Aapd Evan was just lucky cuz he skated clean but he never had the quads!!
Actually that’s not true. It’s only undeserving if Evan won without following the rules. He play the rule well and won deservingly. Had Plushy actually took the time to study the rules and game it, he would have won even with all those wonky quads at this particular Olympics. He was overly confident as he knew Evan didn’t have the quads so he just assumed if he execute his quads he would def win. Unfortunately for him, had he put just slightly more effort into other elements than just jumps, he would have won.

I used to have a massive crush on Stephane. Even wanted to try figure skating. The comments are all about Yuzuru, but most of the people didn't watch back in the day, where Plush, Steph, Joubert and Co were Kings.

I’m with you 😅 I miss my era skaters Yagudin, plushi, Joubert, Takahashi, weir, and my absolute favorite Lambiel. I don’t find any new skater with the originally and artistry of these group of great skaters. The Japanese team (yuzu, shoma and Yuma ) are great but I don’t have a mayor favorite.

I'm American and I agree with you. Nothing against Evan, whom I liked personally. But an Olympic Champion should not be able to win without a quad jump. That's the most difficult jump in the sport and you should be able to do it if you want to be called the best.
I agree with you. Johnny Weir was robbed. The most versatile, artistic skater ever. It's not about how many quads one lands, it's the quality, precision, and fluidity of the jumps and spins, combined with quick footwork and passion...
